Does anyone know if the optical bay hard drive caddy needs to be 9.5mm or 12.7mm?

Does anyone know if getting the 3610QM be good enough to handle the 7970m card, along with maybe Firefox and Photoshop? (Im a multitasker, and i tend to leave games open for extended periods of time) Otherwise should i get the 3720QM, so there is enough processing power?

As another question, is there a large difference between the
    8GB - DDR3 1333MHz Dual Channel Memory (2 SODIMMS) (minus 50$) and the
8GB - DDR3 1600MHz Dual Channel Memory (2 SODIMMS)? Thanks for all the help!

The 3610 is almost 10% more powerful than the 2670 from the last generation. It is more than powerful enough for gaming and photoshop. It's 3.3Ghz quad core; more than powerful enough for gaming even for BF3 and D3 etc.

Also the 8GB DDR3 1333mhz is also more than powerful enough for photoshop and gaming; switching to 1600mhz would give you about 1-3 FPS more maximum; so for $50 I really don't think it's worth it. You're better off spending an extra $50 on the hard drive or upgrading your CD Drive or something.

Do the 3610QM should work fine with the 7970m card, and i can save 50$ with getting the 1333mhz instead of 1600mhz?
    SWEET. YOU JUST SAVED ME AROUND TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Yeah it won't bottleneck you at all. and the RAM at 1333mhz will be perfectly fine for gaming; benchmarks with that same system have been done and can even play 1080p ULTRA settings Battlefield 3 with 35+ FPS, if you turned off Anti Aliasing at least 40-50FPS most likely. So yeah; you will be fine with 3610, 8GB 1333mhz, and 7970m, thats what I've ordered already if you look in my sig. With a 256GB SSD and 95% matte screen :p Hah.

i'm a little confused. looking at malibal site , their Lotus P150EM SE pictures are not from the Clevo P150EM, but from Clevo P150HM (previous model).

is the Lotus P150EM SE from malibal, in fact Clevo P150EM (w:/ Backlit Keyboard)?

There is no static present when using headphones. I have tried many so far and have no issues! Oh yeah not sure if anyone knows this but it does have a mini toslink fiberoptic port! I have the razer chimaera 5.1 wireless headset and use fiber optic. Cant wait too hook it up. The adapter is coming in the mail so I will have that in a week or so. The fiber optic port looks like a regular headphone jack except it has a red light in it. Hard to miss. So anyone who utilizes fiber optic and is getting this laptop enjoy!

UPDATE!! Working on the review as we speak! I am at work so have limited time to work on it but it should be up by midnight tonight! I kbow its been a long wait (over 100 pages in the forum!) but it will be up no later than tonight!

    The Sager NP9150/P150em Mini-Review

Hello Everyone I know you have patiently waited for a review on this laptop so here it is. This will unfortunately be a mini review. Internet issues. I have the sager version.(NP9150) Only difference from clevo is the logo. I must say this lapptop is by far the best computer I have used yet! I have a crappy desktop with a gt240 and previously owned an alienware m14x. This laptop stomps both of them. I know alot of the comments have said ytou need to turn some settings down to play certain games. I have only experienced this on Metro 2033. I do have the gtx675m graphics card overclocked to 740(core) and 1650.(memory) I have played crysis 1, 2 and warhead, metro 2033, stalker (both of them, F.E.A.R 2 and 3, (fear one wont run. It crashes before it opens. Any help with that would be appreciated) Alan Wake, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3, Doom 3, Painkiller, (All of them) Resident Evil 5, Sniper Elite, Unreal Tournament, Battlefield 3 and lastly battlefield 2 bad company. All of these games run amazing! Now Let's talk specs!
    Sager NP9150
    I7-2670qm
(Speed is nice! Mutitasks Easily between Games and work)
    gtx675m
(Truly a champ! I know its rebranded but I love it!)
led 95% color gamut screen (Matte finish)
(Colors are amazing! Fast five looked Incredible on it!)
    16 gb of kingston hyper x pc12800
(PC Always boots quick and runs quick)
    bigfoot network killer 1102
(Improved reliability and wireless coverage by 30% or more over regular wifi card! No Bluetooth though. I dont use that so no problem)
    750gb 7200 rpm 16 mb cache HD
(Load times arent the greatest but I will be getting an msata to make up for that)
    6x Bluray reader/dvd burner
(Load time for bluray not so great. Software related Issue. I need free bluray software that is good. Any suggestions are welcome!)
    Backlit Keyboard
( Havent used it much because I use the razer Blackwidow Ultimate keyboard externally.)
Touchpad ( I use razer mamba wire/wireless mouse all the time)

    **OVERCLOCKING**
    **Attention**
Overclock at your own risk. I am not endorsing overclocking nor responsible if you fry your card. I am using IC Daimond thermal paste on cpu and gpu along with the cooler master u2 cooling pad to make it safer for overclocking. If you have questions on how to overclock or install something or simply apply thermal paste pm me or post a comment on the forum. I also recommend small increment overclocking to find your sweetspot for overclocking the gpu. This betters your chance of increasing stabilty and decreasing the chance of you frying your card. All scores below will include a screenshot of not only the the benchmark score but the stats in msi afterburner for clock and temp purposes.

NOTE: I used MSI Afterburner for overclocking. This seemed to work the best. Nvidia Ntune had issued due to lack of certified driver support so it would BSOD. This is a known issue abd will be resoved when the drivers are finally released for the card. It comes with 296.96 nvidia drivers. I have a successful overclock of the GPU at 740 mhz and the memory at 1600mhz. The highest I have ever seen the card get to was 91 degrees celsius. Yes i know this is high. That was due to the fact that the back vent was covered by a banana on my kitchen table. lol Regularly at full load it doesn't break 82 degrees.

**Having some throttling issues on 3dmark06. Not sure on how to resolve. Any help would be appreciated.

Features: This laptop has many features and I will try to cover as many as I can.
    1. Video Option
Multiple Display: This can be achieved very simply by right clicking on the background and selecting the profile you want. ( clone, monitor 1, monitor 2, duplicate, etc. ) My alienware m14x took a little longer to do having to open the nvidia control panel so Ilove the ease of use for hooking up my sony 40ex500 or my samung 55 lcd.
    2. 95% color led gamut screen: Absolutley Amazing! The color quality beats out both my tv's hands down. There is no motion issues for fast scenes in bluray movies and once again the colors you will see are astonishing. I chose the matte screen finish to avoid glare which it does perfectly. Literally no glare what so ever. If you have the extra $95.00 it is totally worth it.
    3. MSATA PORT: I haven't used it yet but will in a few months maybe sooner. Whenever memorite ms-701 240gb comes out. The ability too boot off of this makes it completely worth while. I have to have an optical port and lots of space. This will accommodate me on both without the need to use an external ODD.
    4. Sound Options
SPDIF-OUT (mini optical) Port: Once again I havent used it but having the ability to have optical on the laptop opens a whole no window of options for audio solutions. When I receive the toslink adapter I will update this review on the quality of the port.
5.Backlit Keyboard: This works ver well. the keys are easy to see at night and it is comfortable to type on. I havent used a ton though due to the use of an external keyboard. (blackwidow ultimate) When I rarely use it it works fine. I havent switched colors either as I like the stock color (blue) it came with.
    6. peripheral ports
USB 3.0: Works amazing! I have an external wd 500gb usb 3.0 hd and the speeds are so much better than usb 2.0. It takes roughly 1min and 30 seconds to transfer over a 4gb file.
ESATA: I do not own anything that works with esata so Sadly I can not comment on it. But on the flip side the more options the better.

This concludes the review. I am sorry it had to be a mini review but I will add more as I get more free time! To all who are getting this laptop Enjoy! It's alot of fun and the areas where I have requested assistance please feel free to help me out I would really appreciate it!

Edit: Sorry guys the pics of msi afterburner didnt save.

There are also reviews of the AUO V4, it's a common screen and is the same as the matte 95% screen in last years P150HM and P151HM / P170HM.

All the reviews say that its amazing fyi. Even better than Macbook screens. Brightness wise and color range wise.

Well, if anyone cares at all I would like to see a review of P150EM with 3610, 7970m, SSD (pref. 256GB Crucial M4), and 8GB ram. I.e. the exact same setup micahmatthew is getting. *wink* *wink* We have reviews of all these things separately but not in one package..

I'm sure many other people would be interested, as this seems to be the most balanced configuration, in terms of performance :price ratio. I'm pretty confident it will rip apart any game you throw at it, so what would be really interesting is temps, noise, screen (matte vs 95% gamut matte would be great), battery life, esp. w/ Enduro enabled (once we have good drivers for it, of course), and all kinds of build quality, audio quality, etc. details.

    So.. Anyone? :D

The B156HW01 V4 (95% Color Gamut Matte) display is one of the best 15,6" LCD panel - I do have it and that makes a big difference especially when you go from a Full hd Glossy standard panel to this Matte AUO.

Thank you for the kind words :p
I ordered it because I did a lot of research and realized this is probably my best price/performance ratio. You can get this build for about $1600-1700 if you shop around and Get a Crucial M4 256GB For around $200 these days.

    AMD Radeon HD 7970M - Notebookcheck.net Tech

These benchmarks are with this set up :

    M17x R4
    Intel Core i7 3610QM 2.3GHz
    Radeon HD 7970M (850MHz), 2048MB (1200MHz) GDDR5, 8.934.2.0
    8192MB RAM

Which is identical to my set up except mine is with a P150EM, which won't change the numbers at all except maybe for heat/noise output which really don't effect your FPS but your OC capabilities.

So these results will be almost exactly what we'll get with my setup; we'll get faster load times though because of the SSD, but that doesn't help FPS form what I've seen.

Hopefully with real driver support for the 7970m we can get another 10-15% out of this card; this is very viable according to most people the driver support could even help a little more than that.

I am supposed to be getting my set up this Friday, at the latest next wednesday. So once I do I plan on setting up Win7 64Bit Ultimate and taking pictures and reviewing the whole system if I can!

    :D

I also plan on getting a 240GB msata drive down the road when I need more space, this thing will rule. If not I may put a 500gb hybid drive in my optical bay , I'd rather not though considering one of my reasons for choosing an SSD is that they consume less power, msata takes very little power though so I'll Get one in a few months along with a Blu Ray player /burner.

In your face, frys. I hate it when they sell me a product advertised to have a $50 mail-in rebate, but it actually has 2 $25 ones that must be in separate envelopes and must each have an original UPC, so I can only send one, then the product fails right after I send one of the rebates in and I drive all the way to frys only to be told I can't return it because "the packaging is incomplete" referring to the missing UPC. Blah.

    Really? I can't get above 60kilobits/sec... :(
 stupid monopolies, go take your consolidation somewhere else!

Maybe a better way to phrase this question would be, "Is the 7970m good enough for the 2630QM?"
    In short, yes.

    Mythlogic.

Looking at getting the same build as you though I plan on getting a 3720 as I run VMs. However, does using a SSD alone save that much power? Was thinking about getting a hard drive caddy and sticking the 500gb in there.

From what I've read it can save 20-30 minutes of battery life; nothing phenomenal but I like to have as much life as possible in case I'm at school etc. But if you run VM's you're going to need the extra space so you might as well.

    Hi all,

Looking to pick up a 9150/P150 and am looking for the best deal from the various resellers. I live in Canada which makes it much more difficult. Prostar seems to be the best deal so far and offers $55 UPS Priority Delivery (bypasses horrible mystery UPS brokerage fee) as well as a $60 discount code. Malibal and XoticPC have pretty limited (and expensive) shipping rates to Canada from what I can see. Reflex Notebook can't quite meet Prostar's price either. Any input would be great, especially if you are from Canada.

    cheers,
    Kyle

If you live in Canada and want the cheapest price I'd go with Eurocom; if you are a student you can get 10% off. I got a killer deal on mine from them.

Just an FYI: The manual available online for the P150EM has been updated with information on the 7970M and switchable graphics. I don't see any option in the bios to manually configure the graphics like what's available on the M17x. Hopefully the software won't result in poor performance like what was reported on notebookcheck's M17x review.

Go to this address and choose P150EM under user manuals.

What weak review of the m17x do you mean? The review they have of it shows awesome performance. And reseller reps have confirmed that Enduro works.

They mentioned a decrease in power when Enduro was enabled versus when the bios disabled the iGPU.

Observe the large difference in numbers between enduro enabled and not enabled. This worries me...look at battlefield 3 on medium and high. Huge difference.

Wait and see the driver matures. If that won't improve, a petition asking Clevo to improve user experience via bios change should do it

I didn't know of that. But you call that a big difference? BF3 dropped .5 FPS? LOL. Dirt Showdown is the only one with a noticeable difference and who the heck plays that game? Lol. I only play BF3, D3, Skyrim. And none of them seem to be affected much. We get the high end GPU to play on Ultra, not medium haha.

And this is with nearly 0 driver support. I'm sure with driver support these numbers will change drastically within the next month.

Also I'm seeing in the manual that the P150EM supports WiDi ? With an adapter of course; that would be awesome if it supported this. WiDi would be sweet so I could play Diablo 3 and BF3 on my 32" screen from bed haha.

The performance loss on the 7970m with enduro on, is that because of drivers/bios or is that something to do with the card itself? Basically what I am asking is, will it be fixed, or at least lessened in the coming months, because if i get the 7970m it will be on enduro 99% of the time.

Not all of us play at low res. The 7970m won't drive my 2560 x 1600 Dell display well enough to play BF3 at ultra regardless of enduro--I prefer to play at medium/high at native res. This IS a big deal if that decrease from 52FPS to 91FPS on medium settings is a result of factors related to turning settings down from ultra to med rather than playing at 1366 x 768.

It's not about specific games, particular settings that matter or what games you play. It's about inconsistency with the technology. It's supposed give consistent results regardless of the condition (Enduro on or completely off). And yes, mind the premature drivers.

Unfortunately I'm not a student. Did you have a coupon or did you have to talk to them directly as their price can't beat Prostar either using the online configurator. I've also seen a few question marks about them on these forums about using engineering samples and slipping on delivery dates.

has anyone had any issues with their keyboards missing strokes? I've had problems with missing strokes with my keyboard when I'm typing at a regular rate and I'm trying to see if it's just me or if it's more widespread

So as you can all see from my post count, I am pretty new to enthusiast notebook use. From everything I have researched I have come to a few assumptions about Sager/Clevo:

    - It is the go-to brand for customizing and getting high end hardware that most manufacturers can't match at the same price point
    - It sacrifices some style points for durability and lower weight
    - Is the only brand able to use the 7970m card except some Alienware models

Please let me know if these points make sense and please add to them if you can.

    Thanks!

Sorry for all the rapid fire posts!

So no one on here has received their 9150 with the 7970m yet?

I think one or two guys have, I've got a 9150 with a 675m that I'm typing on and it feels relatively durable... then again, my last laptop was an xps m1530 so my definition of durable is skewed.

Edit: they're pretty much the go-to brand for users that want the ability to upgrade on a semi-regular basis without destroying the bank. why spend over $3k when a $1500 laptop will do you for over two years?

Honestly about 5 percent of gamers use that res. It is a big problem but it will get sorted out its a brand new card

Can't we get the card turned off in bios or is that also not working ? I'm only going to need enduro occasionaly. Like less than a quarter of the time.

I do hope to run that res within the next two years though, but I'll probably be on the 8970 by then haha.

Does anyone know if there is a large difference between normal matte and 95% gamut matte (whatever that means)? I plan on doing some heavy gaming, so I don’t know if dropping the extra $95 (buying from Xoticpc BTW) is worth it.
Also does anyone know the best reseller for the NP9150 that has low shipping to Canadians? I heard Eurocom and Myothologic are good ones, but for some reason I can’t find an online configurator for Eurocom.

I notice a lot of configurations with a crucial m4 256gb ssd. Is this the best price per gb ssd available at the moment?

Its one of the best price to performance and price to GB . They are very reliable drives and for 200 bucks for 256GB is legit.

I haven't seen any for that price yet. Do they go on sale often? I can be patient and wait for a good sale on one of these.
