Thank you for getting back to me so quickly! I'll tell you exactly what I'm trying to do, and what I've done.

My goal is to simply modify the attributes System Name, Manufacturer, and Model in the SMBIOS in order to manage the machines via Microsoft's SCCM environment.

All I did was pull the BIOS currently on the machine via AFUWINx64, then I modified the above attributes via AMIBCP, and have attempted to flash it back via AFUWINx64, at which point I get the “18 - error: secure flash rom verify fail” error.

    Thank you for you help

You can´t do that, the BIOS got this thing called security headers, or something like that, the moment you change anything the flasher will fail because the security header wont match.
To modify a BIOS you would need to be a CLEVO re-seller and have the proper tools to sign your BIOS.
If you tell me what you want i can do it for you and sign it with our tools. PM me if you want me to do it. Please, don´t PM me asking for the signing tools as we agree not to share those when we deal with a manufacturer.

Well, to play it safe, you probably should ask them first, otherwise you could be killing your warranty. If they are ok with it ill mod it for you with whatever you want.
Makes no difference where the BIOS comes from.

Has anyone sucessfully installed Windows 7 on this Clevo? I've tried several times with the installation guide for nvme SSD but I keep getting a boot error saying that the BIOS isn't fully ACPI compliant. Don't want to try to flash the BIOS..

So i bought one of these Clevo N859HJ laptop's from Pro-Star last week.....
I'm a full time college student and am almost done with my bachelor's degree in software engineering.
With what time i have spent on the laptop so far, it's turning out to be a not too shabby laptop. I have spent more hours reading on this forum in the past week than i probably should have but i was pretty determined to install Windows 7 on it. Ended up giving up after working on it for 5 full days (my vacation time no less lol) with no progress and installed Windows 10 Pro using Phoenix's guide. Still would prefer having Windows 7 but cant get past the "bios is not fully ACPI compliant" issue.

Has anybody else faced a heat issue with the N850HJ? I've ran it to 94C during a 100% test. Didn't check to see if there was any throttling.
Has anybody got Windows 7 to install? I'm still leaning towards the BIOS stopping me from installing W7 (tried legacy, UEFI, CSM on/off).

I sent john at OBSIDIAN-PC an email about the bios since i saw him help another member out with it but havent heard anything from him.

You would have a driver's issues on Windows 7. Moreover, Intel does not guarantee normal working Kaby Lake CPU with Windows 7.
Just use liquid metal on CPU and GPU. In my N870HK1 i'm getting around 10 degrees improve in high loads.

Please note that´s a stock CLEVO bios, not a OBSIDIAN-PC custom BIOS.
If indeed you want a stock bios please PM me, latest stock is 1.05.15, i just released the obsidian version to all my clients who should be able to update using the obsidian tools app.

Hello everyone I have recently bought N870HK1 from pcspecialist in UK and it is already freezing a lot and some times needs to force shutdown. I have updated all the drivers via Obsidian tools so can anyone have any idea what can be the reasons?

Is there anything suspicious in the Windosw event log? Does the system work normally without installed drivers? Did you try different images of the operating system?

When it freezes is it just a window, most of the windows or even the curse that stops?

How long does it take to return to normal?

There was nothing special in event log. Mostly it freeze for a second whenever need to open a program with admin rights and sometimes total freeze out and need to force shutdown. It is curser which stops.
Just did a windows clean install and it is working fine now before installing any driver and software so will do step wise installation to find the problem.

Try setting the Nvidia driver to always use the IGP and reboot, this should mean the GPU should never wake and the drivers should not do anything much. Does it still happen?

I may be of help. I have had a horrendous time with stuttering with this laptop from PC Specialist too. Apparently its due to Nvidia Optimus and Intel Graphics not playing very nicely in W10 with 10 series GPUs. Whilst Intel are now investigating this, neither company really give a crap about the niche segment of people buying 10 series gaming laptops.

Anyway, check this thread on reddit first if you want a more in depth explanation, with solutions: https://www.reddit.com/r/Windows10/comments/78c88d/a_windows_10_issue_is_causing_bad_stuttering_on/

As for the solution itself, you can find that here: https://github.com/jobeid/TrayPwrD3/tree/master/executable

If you dont have it already, you'll need to install VC Redist to be able to run the app: https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=746572

It basically pings the dGPU every 5 seconds, stopping it from turning off, but keeping it in a very low power state, meaning its also battery friendly if you need it. It stops Optimus from turning the dGPU on and off during basic desktop tasks.

    Hope this helps.

After trying hundreds of different tips and tricks in the depths of the nvidia forum and the like, this is the solution that has worked. The app was custom made to fix this very issue, so I shouldnt be so surprised!

Note that this fix is specifically for right click stutters/mini freezes. For more information see the explanation at the TrayPwrD3 site: https://github.com/jobeid/TrayPwrD3

    Hello everyone,

I'm sure as everyone knows, when trying to install Windows 7 with stock BIOS we will receive a BSOD error along the lines of ACPI is not compatible.

Does anyone have a solution for this? I'm pulling my hair out, I can't find a answer anywhere.

    Hola,

I was unable to message you thus resorted to placing this message here. As many of the N870HK1 owners will know, installing Windows 7 isn't possible with Clevo's stock BIOS. We receive an ACPI error. Over the past few months I have been modifying Windows 10 OS to look and feel like Windows 7, but it's just not possible - there's an abundance of issues with Win 10.

I can not find any BIOS related software on Clevo's download site:
    http://www.clevo.com/en/e-services/download/ftpOut.asp?Lmodel=N870HJ1/HK1&ltype=9&submit=+GO+

Furthermore, a Clevo re-seller called XMG have posted some BIOS updates, but it does not solve the problem.
    https://www.mysn.de/driver/1_XMG/XMG_A507_und_A707/BIOS/

As a owner of the N870HK1, and I speak for the community who were scammed by the manufacturers (did not tell us Win 7 is incompatible). Would you please allow us to download a modified version of the latest BIOS which fixes the ACPI error. We would all appreciate it very much.

On another note, the N870HK1's fan speed is very slow and never turns on automatically - this can lead to overheating problems if unresolved. Does anyone know how to configure it so it's compatible with NoteBook FanControl?
    https://github.com/hirschmann/nbfc

I would really appreciate the entire communities help with above issues.

    Thanks.

    Thanks for the reply.

I am aware of this, I'm looking for a workaround. First is to resolve the ACPI incompatibility, then we'll see what other issues arise. Do you know how to resolve the ACPI BSOD issue?

    All help is greatly appreciated.

For the fan issue. Open the Clevo Control Center, select your plan (ie. Performance or Entertainment) then hit the system program on the bottom left, now change the fan profile from Automatic to Overclock. This way, the fans would spin up much faster to keep the CPU cool instead of waiting for it to reach really high temperatures before they start spinning up.

    Ahoy Pheonix,

Thanks for the reply. I'll take a look at this later tonight. In the past I was experimenting with Control Center files and configs. I was attempting to separate functionality of the Control Center and make the program portable (no need to install). I was working on making a portable KbColorPicker (changing keyboard colour) but ran into some issues.

Download link below is to my progress, don't know how to continue (file is auto deleted in 30 days from host).
    https://ufile.io/4mvj7

Any ideas on how to separate KbColorPicker and fan control into portable folders or lighter programs? From my current version of Control Center, I don't have much fan options to play around with. Do you know how to add more options, for example....

    - 0 - 15°C @ 0% Fan Speed
    - 15 - 30°C @ 15% Fan Speed
    - 30 - 40°C @ 30% Fan Speed
    - 40 - 50°C @ 60% Fan Speed
    - 50 - 60°C @ 80% Fan Speed

I'm wondering that if we can find out how NoteBook FanControl works, we'll be able to access more options.

The latest is - Control Center Driver 5.0001.1.17 (07_Hotkey_170301.zip).
Most of the updates are to stay in line with Windows version updates. You should use the latest.

    Hummm

Have you tried setting OS Select to "Others" in BIOS, and disabling UEFI Boot?
I´m really not sure, i would need to test it myself, give an hour or so, i should be able to answer that.

Ok tried it, even with advanced boot and acpi settings no combination of settings will change anything, same ACPI error.
I´m sorry but i dont know any way to make it boot windows 7, would probably need to read on the subject to check if there is any workaround.

To my understanding, changing the default settings with the default Clevo BIOS doesn't fix the situation.

I would be eternally grateful if you were able to find a fix, most likely with flashing the BIOS. If I can be any assistance please let me know.

Thank you for your time <3

This may be some help. On the XMG driver downloads page, follow directory(s).
    XMG > XMG_A505_und_A705 > Drivers > Win7
    XMG > XMG_A505_und_A705 > Bios > XMG_A705 or XMG_A505

As you can see, a previous model prior to the N870HK1 was able to support Windows 7 as drivers are available. I wonder what we need to extract from that BIOS and add to the N870HK1's?

Does anyone know what would happen if you switched out the i7-7700HQ for a 6th gen or lower processor? Would it be able to suddenly support other operating systems? Cause other issues?

Was not aware the chips were soldered in place on the N870Hk1, are you sure of this? If yes, does this mean new thermal paste can not be applied?

They are soldered to the motherboard but the heatsink is not soldered to the chips.
