Though it might perform well I am extremely concerned that a heat pipe is so close to the battery location and the chipset it not have any heatsink

The chipset can often not have one as the airflow can be better than some heatsink jammed in a closed case.

I agree with that however though that could be the case i dont see any reason this is the case because of the lack of ventilation and only two fans, that said my real point of concern is that one heat pipe intersects right by the battery and that is just asking for trouble.

i'm considering to buy this Laptop in a few days, but i'm not quite sure about the system noises... Is it running completely silent when idiling ? Because i want to use it also for office work, it would bother me, when the fans are loud all the time. :)

Mine is completely silent under idle. Only when heavy processing occurs does the fan noise increase. And even then, the noise is not crazy, it's moderate noise imo.

I just bought this laptop and I'm pleased with it so far. Of course, it has only been a couple days, so it's only expected that a brand new laptop would perform well at this point.

I just purchased the N850HK1: 16GB RAM, 512SSD, 1050ti 4gb, IPS panel, white Keyboard (RGB wasn't available yet). I'll post some pictures when arrives home.

Currently awating the arrival of my N870HK1 after extensive research. (Thanks for being a great community and thus repository of experience and knowledge).

So far I have been unable to track down a service manual of the new series. Does anyone know a place to find them?

Thinking about getting the N870HK1. Does this have a dedicated button to enable/disable optimus mode, just like my W370ET?

    It´s automatic.
NVIDIA gets activated only when you open a 3D accelerated app, like a game.
NVIDIA control panel also gives you some power over this and you can even add a nifty icon in your windows taskbar that will show when NVIDIA Kicks IN YO!

You can set to only use igp or only dedicated in the nvidia control panel but it's not really changing the architecture and is for trouble shooting.

Hello, ordered an NP6872/N870HK1 yesterday from LPC-Digital. Looking forward to it in the coming weeks once it is built and shipped. These are its specs, the only change is the WD Black 512gb m.2 SSD and no HDD. Going to upgrade the RAM at some point once my wallet recovers. The main usage of this is for programming and minor graphic design work. I am a Meteorology Student, so python, java and C and creating weather maps and graphics. Occasional gaming too. Eventually going to add a second drive and dual boot it with LINUX.

One of the main reasons I picked it up. The upgrade ability is top notch for extended use past the components life spans so it's great.

When I ordered my laptop from @LPCDigital I spoke with Larry on the phone specifically about the availability of the Prema Bios specifically. He had said due to the laptop type and model number being so new it might or even will be a while before we have access to a version. Right now it's fingers crossed a version rolls out sooner rather than later. Bought it to do what I needed the more I can do that the better.

Eventually I am dual booting with Linux and running some advanced meteorological numerical models on the laptop. As well as straight coding and other related instances. There's certain things that I'll need to run certain ways to optimize the true value of the equipment.

Will do, still waiting for it to arrive. Wednesday, and then I have to mess around with it to fully understand what and how I'm going to make this work baby steps lol. And also continue hardware upgrades, more RAM and a secondary SSD eventually...

I don't think this model might even get Prema BIOS... It's too low range for it... However,. Prema in the past hase made BIOS's for such models so there is a chance... @Prema can confirm accordingly!

I can share my BIOS it is highly modified but will work on your unit.
The problem is... are you OK with voiding the warranty? Because the moment you flash my BIOS your shop can claim warranty void!

Highly modified? Sounds intriguing. What do you have in mind? Anyway, me and other users would be glad if you share links and how to flashing manual, as the warranty does not bother me very much.

But if i understand correctly then yeah, i dont want to be responsible for people complaints, specially if they think i have any obligation to "fix" something which i did not sold.
    Was that your point?

Wait you aren't open 25/8? Ugh pathetic. When I was a kid we has real customer service. /s

Hey so jokes aside, how is the cooling on the 1050 Ti models on this and the 15" version? I'm somewhat confused because I'd seen some pretty solid gpu temps, but then I think I saw a company rep saying somewhere that the N850HK1 can't handle a 1050 Ti well.

    Hi John,

I humbly ask for your help concerning updating the BIOS for Clevo N870HJ1

I just want to know which method you used to successfully update the BIOS. I keep getting the error “18 - error: secure flash rom verify fail” when I try to flash the BIOS using AMI’s BIOS tools.

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you!

Where did you get that BIOS ? That is a nonsigned BIOS.
New version just came out Bios 1.05.10 and EC 1.05.07
Let me get this ready and ill share it in a bit. It will be stock CLEVO version and NOT my modded OBSIDIAN-PC version.
