Thanks that would be great!
-
A video of it would definitely make it sweet, especially one with playing crysis, and temps, noise etc...
-
How good is the screen/monitor of it? Viewing angles before it turns all funky? It's a TN panel, right?
-
Just placed an order with Xotic PC. I'll be eating nothing but Mr. Noodles & SpaghettiOs for six months, but it's worth it.
Even if I die of scurvy, I'll die happy. -
-
I treated myself: 4GB of RAM, the 25 watt P9500, glossy WSXGA+ screen, 320GB 7200RPM hard drive, 64-bit Home Premium.
I'm going to be real happy with this purchase.
Do you think it'll run Elder Scrolls: Arena? -

I am getting 2Gb of RAM, the 25 watt P8400, and 200GB 7200RPM hard drive, and no OS just to save money ...

I am already in phase 2 don't want to change it now... Maybe I will buy SSD in two years when they are around 100 bucks.

Anyone know when Sager emails the tracking info? Been told I will ship today, not a word out of Sager so far.
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
Tracking information from Sager and PowerNotebooks.com goes out very late at night (even the wee hours of the next morning).
-
Is the Intel Turbo Memory upgradable? Can I put it in myself later if I buy a 2GB or 4GB module later?
-

Yes, you can.

HI guys,
I might soon be the proud owner of an M860TU, but I'm not sure what OS to put on it. I've been reading a lot of threads about how Vista 64 is really crap and unstable with games.
Also the issue with Vista 32 not being able to recognize the full 4 Gig of ram.
Any recommendations?
Thanks in advance. -
steveninspokane John 14:6 - Only ONE Way!
No 32 bit OS will recognize 4 gigs of ram, and remember when XP came out? the same people that were dedicated to 98 said it was crap. It's the circle of OS. Vista is great for the people that understand how the whole windows operating system works. I've used both 32 bit and 64 bit, with a wide range of software, and hardware. I have yet to find a problem.
-
I keep reading horror stories though about how lots of games lag and there are installation problems and campatibilty problems with 64 (game wise). I basically will just be using it for games. Should I just run Vista 32 for now and upgrade to 64 once it becomes more updated and everything has been ironed out?
whats your suggestion?
thanks in advance -
Form what I hear it's pretty much been ironed out. With a 32-bit OS you're probably not going to notice a huge difference with ~>750MB of RAM missing, but if you really want to have access to your full 4GB of RAM, then go for 64(-bit).
If you don't know of any specific incompatible software that you need, you're probably fine.
Can someone who knows better correct me if I'm horribly misinformed? -
youdontneedtoknow Notebook Evangelist
If I remembered correctly, two years ago people were saying 64 bits are faster than 32 bits is that still true?
-
steveninspokane John 14:6 - Only ONE Way!
go with 64 bit, 32 bit is a waste of money. and Games I have played on 32 and 64 bit include, but not limited to, DF2, COD2, COD4, Crysis, COH, MOH, and Supreme Commander. All games ran perfect, no problems.
-
youdontneedtoknow Notebook Evangelist
Ok I guess I will go with 64 bits Vista then, since I can get it for 10 dollars from my University bookstore.
-
-
If you get vista business or ultimate edition, you can downgrade to XP Pro with it, and upgrade back when you feel comfortable if you are that concerned about it. I however havent had a single problem with vista.
-
Thanks guys you've been all really helpful. I'll probably go straight to Vista 64. And I'll be asking for help if my games don't run!!
-
i forgot to ask... does anyone know if adobe design suite works ok in vista 64?
-
The eagle has landed!
Unboxing now....... -
I'm sure it works, its been too long since vista and cs3 is out for it not too.
Edit: Did some research, people are happily running CS2 and CS3 in vista.
Yay for us. -
wow, have fun.

Initial thoughts:
- The guys at Prostar were kind enough to install everything for me, and they created an administrator account in my name.
- My network manager forgot to leave me the network key, so I'm stuck using my Vostro for internet tasks, until later today. I'm so eager to download some testing software... this wait just might kill me. So, no benchies from me for now. I will do an extensive rundown later today.
- My wsxga+ screen will take some getting used to. First off, my Vostro has a craptastic Samsung WXGA screen that's way too bright and the contrast is screwed to death, so my mind is convinced that the M860 is way too dark. But, I put the same desktop background on both, and the Prostar has a much superior, crisper display. I love the extra screen real estate. Vostro is only 15.4 1280x800, so it's quite the difference. Overall, I'd like the brightness to have a couple more notches, and it might be a little bit grainy, but don't quote me on that, because I need time to adjust my eyes.
- At idle, it's pretty quiet. I can hear the fan, but it's just a light hum. Maybe a little CPU whine, but I'm not sure, because I always hear a ringing in my ears.
- The webcam seems to suck. I haven't looked for options to improve the picture quality yet.
\- The only disc based game I own is Mass Effect, but again, no internet to register it.
- Came with driver version 176.02
Well built. About the same size as my 1500. No flex anywhere. Screen hinges are solid, firm and quiet. No m15x issues here.
Two minor, non-performance cons:
1. The power cord come out too easily; the Vostro 1500 has the same issue, so I'm used to it.
2. Bah, I forgot what the other con was, but it's a really minor picky thing.
EDIT: Just remembered con #2; the rubber feet are too slippery for my tastes. They need more grip.
EDIT #2: No dead pixels. -

Nice Kevin! Post some pictures, I want to see whether if your laptop is gray or black!
-
I think they're all black but the protective plastic screen on top makes them look gray/silver?
-
youdontneedtoknow Notebook Evangelist
Oh, thanks! I was getting worried because gray doesn't look as nice as black
-
kevin can you post some screen captures of the webcam quality? It's actually a huge concern of mine.
-
Nice first thoughts Kevin. Can we get some temperatures reading?
-
-
Kevin, any notes on the touchpad and the buttons?
Obviously for gaming I would prefer using a mouse but I am used to the touchpad for most other activities..
Does the buttons have enough travel or is it too tight? Seems like the buttons are extensions of the pad itself.
