Not much experience, but from inside my house, i dunt have problem seeing the screen from any angle. Sunlight is streaming in through the windows of my house, and at times i do see reflections, but they are slight. at the current condition of course. I have not had a problem with the screen aside from the stuck pixel i mentioned a while ago.

    Thanks a lot man :)

You should try using software to unstick that pixel if you can.

Were you planning to upload a video of the rig?

ok so it looks like i might be wrong about the fan noise, i played crysis for about an hour, on Fullscreen, without my notebook cooler, or the AC adaptor. while one might not notice the heat directly from the top as an issue, u will notice the heat emanating from the bottom. The fan noise does increase, but i noticed the noise after stopping playing crysis. i had been playing with the laptop speakers, during which i did not notice the fan noise.

i dunno if this is normal, but i ended up using the lower right hand side of the laptop as a mouse pad, bc my mouse is small ><

So u played crysis on battery then? And it performed well? :)

If you did not notice the fan noise it must mean its negligable.

We'll see what Justin's review has to say come Monday. I need to keep myself occupied now. Have a good night. :D

Just to clarify: the top of the notebook remains cool during gaming (includes palm rests, touchpad, keyboard etc.) while the bottom gets noticeably warm (due to the fact that the air vents are at the bottom).
    Justin, where's your review?

You will receive the drivers CD whether you ordered the OS or not.

Once the NP8660 has been shipping for a couple of weeks, or when any updated drivers from what is on the CD are released, they will be posted on their website.

    Hi folks,

For Temp reading and sort ... use HWMonitor 1.10, a lot easier and portabelish program and real-time reading of all the major components (CPU, GPU, HDD) ... you can easily use to make a Table of Temps.

    http://www.cpuid.com/hwmonitor.php

PC Wizard is really good for Detailed Data about your entire laptop. But you can not run it Portabelish ... have to install it.

    G! :)

Well, I've decided to take the plunge ASAP, so I'm hoping to finalize my 860TU order by Wednesday. I'm going on vacation next wee, and I'd lie it to be waiting for me when I get back home.

First, I need some CPU advice from you guys. Which processor is the best balance of price and performance, for someone who's buying this laptop solely for gaming?

If you're buying the laptop solely for gaming, I would recommend the 2.53 GHz 35 watt processor. Definitely the best bang for your buck, the CPU would be the bottleneck, and you wouldn't care much about the 25 watt version since, if you're gaming, you will probably be plugged in anyway.

True. Some people aren't willing to drop 35 dollars though, and I was just going on the least expensive thing for what I thought were his only intentions with the laptop.

If you think you might want to use it for something other than gaming or game on the road/without power in some cases, go with the 25 W as NCG1589 suggested :)

Thanks. I guess my problem is that I'm trying to decide if the 2.53GHz processors are worth the price over the 2.4GHz P8600.

So you lads have helped me narrow my choice to P8600 vs P9500. That 2.53 just feels like such a nice sweet number. Eh, now that you've planted the seed in my mind, the 9500 is my only choice. Once I'm spending $1900, what's another hundred, right?

Yes; draws less power, generates less heat.

Im considering the 2.8 (I dont pay for anything after it reaches $2000). Will the 2.8 GHz CPU have the same problems that it does on the m15x (overheat+down-clock)? I want to future-proof mine given the chance.

In my case, I budgeted about $2500 for a new laptop ($800 of which I'll most likely get back if I manage to sell my current one), so I wouldn't mind too much paying another $35-$40 on a processor that eats less energy and runs cooler.

That 2.53Ghz figure is the same one my old Northwood P4 had. Of course, the Montevina will definitely send that little relic running home to mommy. :D

Ozymandias no one will know officially until someone gets one and tests it.

I wouldn't think given Sager's reputation that it will have the m15x problems but its all mystery's that will be solved soon

    @ ozymandias

The 2.8 GHz processor offered with Montevina laptops is rated at 35 W, whereas the 2.8 GHz extreme edition processor offered with the m15x is rated at more than that (44 W?) and is overclockable via unlocked multipliers in the bios.

At 2.8 GHz, the Montevina offering (T9600) will generate less heat because it consumes less power.

Does the 25W version of the 2.53 GHz processor have the same overclocking potential of the 35W? If it's just an undervolted T9400, then I don't think it's really worth the money. Also, is the new TurboMemory of any use?

Since the np8660 has only one fan for CPU & GPU I think it is better to go for a slighty lower power consuming - low heat 25W processor. for just 35$ extra.

However, for a better cooling laptop like the np5796 ( which has 2 cooling fans) this wouldnt me much of a concern.

The BIG differences between the original Intel®
Turbo Memory w/1GB and the New Turbo Memory 2.0 w/2GB or 4GB

Intel® Turbo Memory (code named Robson) uses NAND Flash Memory to work with the Microsoft Windows Vista ReadyBoost and ReadyDrive technologies. It is a new low-latency, non-volatile memory cache between your system memory and your hard drive. It was designed to enable fast access to critical data and applications.

Well, that was the idea anyway.

Turbo Memory w/1GB (Ver. 1.0) on the original Centrino® systems was divided into 2 512MB slices with 512MB dedicated to Vista ReadyDrive, and 512MB dedicated to Vista ReadyBoost. It had its minor performance boosts under Vista if it was used to specifications, but for anyone with 2GB system memory or more its benefit was negligible…and disappointing.

With the launch of Intel® Centrino® 2, Turbo Memory got upgraded from Ver. 1.0 to Ver. 2.0 in 2GB or 4GB modules.

With the new driver version 1.7 you will see a great improvement in user control and performance. This new version now has the Intel Turbo Memory Dashboard. While 512MB will still be dedicated to Vista ReadyDrive the new Dashboard will give the user the option to select how the remaining 1.5 to 3.5GB of space should be allocated between Vista ReadyBoost and Intel® Pinning.

Intel® Pinning will allow you to drag and drop your most used applications or files into the Turbo Memory (e.g. the whole Office 2007 suite will only take up about 600MB) which will allow your pinned files or applications snap open much faster. It will remain in the module until removed from the Dashboard by the user.

This will make the remaining 1.5 to 3.5GB of space an internal Mini SSD for Vista ReadyDrive and the applications that you have chosen to “Pin” to Turbo Memory. Internal testing has shown this will provide a great performance boost in the application load time for the applications that have been pinned.

It’s quite a great alternate internal Mini SSD drive for a very affordable price of around $45 for 2GB or $90 for 4GB, without the hassle of using an external USB flash memory drive.

I love it when a plan comes together! :)

Paladin will the amount of turbo memory you have be similar to ram in that 32 bit cannot use the whole 4 gb of ram, so if i have 4 gb of ram there is no point getting turbo mem because vista won't be able to recognize any of it anyway?

And if it will recognize it would buying some myself after purchase and fitting it myself be a) worth it with 4gb of ram and b) would it void the warranty?

Great question, the answer to which is no. Turbo memory is storage just like your hard drive and is therefore not affected by or contribute to limitations on your system memory.

The answer to your a) is yes as I explained in my earlier post, and the answer to b) is no, it would not void your warranty. You are entitled to upgrade or exchange your memory, hard drive, wireless card(s), turbo memory, ODD, CPU or any other slotted or plugged component. After all, it is your computer :) However should you break anything while inside your computer that would not be covered by warranty.

turbo memmory 1 is the same as putting in a 2gig USB thum drive and using readyboost in vista..

its close to completely worth less in a sistem like the np8660 lol seriously unless your PC is like super weak and underpowered. Most respectable resellers ive looked at only seem to be offering it via request and not even listing it any more. And regardless what people say about the new one i would wait n c.

Dont even consider it imo.. money would be better spent on a media memory card for your reader.

Would it be better to have 2gb turbo mem or a 2gb sd card set up with the ready boost or whatever in vista? Or is it possible to have both?

the 2.26 is the best simply because games are far more dependent on gpu

you also get the added bonus of less heat than a higher 45w cpu
