Hi Paladin, is phase number (from XoticPC) a clear indication of the progress of my order? I am still stuck on phase 1 despite the fact that I preordered this laptop a month ago. The answer I got from Xoticpc is "no", but that doesn't make me feel better seeing that most people here are on the production phase. Also, my system only contains standard components.
-
Sorry if I'm missing something and it truly is reseller-specific.
Edit: I should have been clearer in my OP that I was trying to ask about the assembly of the notebook rather than a specific order status, which would clearly be reseller-specific. Sorry for the confusion -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
As for the assembly question, the shells come in with the screen attached as that is part of the barebones shell. Therefore an order for a WUXGA screen can't begin production until that barebones shell has arrived.
At this point we expect the WUXGA screens to begin shipping within a week or so. -
Wow, people. Asking questions like these is not going to speed up the process. If your status number is 1 or w/e it means that. If you think it is wrong, you take it up sager or the reseller you bought it from, not some other reseller. First he has no control over your system, and second there is no reason he should care.
As for mike's situation, going into production means they are starting to build it. If they are lacking parts, they obviously can't build it hence the delay. I highly doubt they would go into the trouble of installing the screen, then removing it just so you can get your laptop faster.
edit: it seems like the barebones comes with fixed screens, so its a no either way. -

Thanks for the info Donald and sujinge9

Metromike i was in the same boat as you. There is a delay. the phase is right though. Your laptop will be built, burned and tested, but they will hold it (delay) until they get the 1920x1200 screens in. If you want to downgrade im sure they will be willing too. I did.

^--^
As I stated before that is not true.
The barebones come in with the screens attached, so there is nothing to build until the WUXGA versions arrive. -
Donald,have you tested one?
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
No, that is not my job. I rely on the technicians to do that.
-
-
but have you seen one in person?does it fill thick?
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
It does not feel thick to me...I really don't understand all this conversation about a laptop that is so powerful and less than 2" thick.
-
/cry i want mine!! Rock ship mine asap!!!

This is torture
-
Justin, do you have any more pictures to tease us with?
-
-
Do we have an ETA on that review?
Also, why is Eurocom the only vendor offering the 9600M? -
Is it better to buy this notebook now or wait until the Nehlam platform comes out by the end of this year?
-
Hi Cossack,
Rule of Thumb on buying a Laptop ... if you DON'T need or MUST have it NOW ... then WAIT ...
You always will end up BETTER OFF ... Higher Quality for Less $$$.

Calling someone a liar in a public forum before even talking to them seems to be a bit rash to me. -
@coss and gonwk:
That reminds me of the other saying, if you wait because something much better is coming right over the horizon...you'll always be waiting -
If I used that logic, I'd never have a new laptop. -
-
Does anyone have an exact date on when the new Nehlam platrform will come out? If its going to take more than a month, I'm definitely buying a notebook.
I would love to wait for the new platform and quad core. But then again, technology is always changing. It used to be every two years or so. Now it changes every quarter of a year.
There will always be something new coming out and if I keep on waiting, I'll never be able to get a notebook. (By the way, this is going to be my first notebook... )
Its probably a good idea to get something cheaper, so when it does get old, I won't feel too bad about it.
Spending $2000 on anotebook and then having it get old by the following year is dissapointing you know. -
Hi guys,
Also remember the saying "Patience is a Virtue".
G! -
I've been waiting for nearly a year now, trying to find a notebook that suites my needs. And I haven't come across anything that good...YET... -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
It will not be out within a month...or even 3 months...it will be sometime in 2009 at the earliest.

Paladin, is there going to be any kind of sale? I would have purchased the NP8660 right away if it came with the Ati HD3870. When I configured my notebook with the Ati graphics card, it was about $200-$300 cheaper than with the 9800GT.
I really hope Sager/Clevo settle this issue and offer the Ati as an option for graphics cards. I realize the NP8660 is MXM capable, and I could change the GPU myself. However, not only would that void my warranty, I would also be spending extra money for a 9800GT for no reason. -
Nehalem will not be out in notebooks until approximately this time next year (Q3 2009). It will be a performance increase, for sure, but to me it's definitely not worth waiting an additional year. If you have a more modern, capable notebook that can tide you over until that time, I'd suggest waiting.
My computer overheats when I watch online videos (youtube, etc.) for more than 30 minutes at a time. It isn't capable of playing many modern games and, even if it had the hardware to do so, it is a PPC-based PowerBook from 4.5 years ago, so I can't run much on OS X and I can't use BootCamp.
If I want a major performance bump to feel good about my notebook (not that I will need to) when Nehalem finally debuts in notebooks, I will grab a stable, fast, high-capacity (384 GB I hope) SSD that will probably more than halve boot times and make Vista seem nearly instantaneously responsive at a decent price (by that time).
Unless you're going to be modeling nuclear explosions, solving complicated engineering/math/physics problems, or other CPU-intensive tasks where having a faster CPU means the problem can be solved in 4 hours instead of 6 (molecular dynamics simulations that I'm running on a school server literally take 18-20 hours when optimized for quad-core), I think that today's C2D processors will suffice just fine.
Edit: Paladin always beats people to the punch -
-
Okay. So they don't want to use Ati graphics cards. What about other nVidia GPUs? 9800GTS? 9700GT?
-
-
-
Because yes, quad core can come out, and octo core after that and then again Sixta core, but if you are going to be playing games, its not going to make that much of a difference, and dare I say it, EVEN when the games are using all the cores.
If you are into video production, things are moving towards using the GPU power over the CPU power so you could have the latest quad core processor and encoding your video in 2 hours and I'm doing it in 20 minutes because I'm using the GPU technology.
Then again, why get a laptop? because a desktop would be the perfect thing to get if you want to upgrade the purchase every 6 months, and it would upgrade for sure. -
In Norway we have the choice of 8800 GTX, or 9800 GT or GTS. The GTS is cheaper and according to notebookcheck, not that way behind. My question is this, does choosing the GTS affect temperature. Will it be cooler with this GPU than e.g. 9800GT?

I am pretty sure that they will not offer the 9700GT since that is a lower end gfx card. They might or might not put the GTS back in, not sure hwhy they took it out in the first time.

Anyone know why Sager hasn't hosted the M860TU drivers on their website yet?
Anyone know where else I can get them? -
i recall sum1 asking how crysis ran... and i tried it while at my friends house, so it appears to work very well on the M860TU no lagging smooth graphics, etc
-
What were the settings on Crysis Chung?
Also, did it seem like the fans were kicking in to the point of annoyance whilst playing? And was the laptop starting to get hot? -
1. default
2. Fans as i have said do not seem to be a problem, for me, no matter what i am doing
3. Laptop gets warm after a bit of use, no problem since winter is coming soon :]
btw if the edge is the same thing, i have same exact specs, so urs should be fine as well
mebe just mebe i am used to my old desktop and have learned to zone out fan noise >< -
Sounds to me like Clevo have gotten it right with their 15" laptop.
Glad I'm getting one. Now to wait.....*sigh* -
Will the NP5796 drivers work on the NP8660?
-
All the basics one should, like the wifi drivers etc/video
-
Chunghwa, have you had any experience with other glossy laptops? If you have, how is the glare on the Clevo display? Any graniness or sparkling or anything that isn't too nice?
