Justin, how do you compare the speakers against the Asus M50/G50?

What is the quality of the screen? Maybe a few pictures would help. ;)

I have not personally tested the audio (other then windows boot up). Was mostly after 3D Mark 06, Riva Tuner and some pics first. We are doing a formal review on it and will provide detailed info on all of these areas. :) Sorry....

My first priority to ensure as many 8660's ship today as possible ;) Sorry for the brief information, hope what I have provided thus far helps. Feel free to post requests and I will do my best to answer them ASAP. :)

Xirurg - Sorry did I miss a post of yours? I saw your post about a new thread and answered that above along with running Crysis this weekend. :)

Overall I think the colors on the screen are vivid and bright. I dont know if I could work with with a WUXGA on this model. I think the WUXGA would make everything very small and hard to read.

    @ Justin

Thanks a lot for the display information :) I've been waiting to hear about it for what seems like a long time and it sounds like a good verdict.

    I appreciate it

Considering the fact that you had a Seagate 320GB 7200RPM on your testing unit, and the bottom right hand side of the notebook got considerably warm, which hard drive would you recommend Justin?

Glad to help metromike ;) As for heat on the hard drives I havent been able to test a 320GB 5400 to see if there is a noticeable difference. I will see if we can get to that over the weekend or first of next week. :)

I have high hopes for this laptop so far, and the info that's coming is helping me =D. Temps seem a little high, but as Justin said, the fans only kicked in at the end of the first test, which is also when the temps were taken, so hopefully they won't get TOO much hotter than that.

All i care about is minimal fan noise. So I am very happy to hear that it is low. Im not sure how loud they go above that though (i.e. when Jason said they started spinning faster near the end), but hopefully its not too bad.

Secondly I expected the right side of the touchpad to get hot, mainly due to the fact the HDD is right under it. Thankfully SSDs will be cheaper soon and generate less heat so I can switch if needed likely within the next 6 months.

Third, Im a little disappointed at the temperatures this thing is reaching. 71 degrees celsius in 3dmark is a bit more than I expected (I was hoping ~75 would be max under Crysis). Then again I don't mind as long as it doesn't go too high and the fans still remain quiet.

Still if these are all the issues that popup with this machine then I am more than extatic.

In silent mode, the fans work on a low frequency to reduce noise. Based on what previous posts, it seems that noise will not be a problem.

    1. Either the power brick is enormous or the laptop is not as thick as I worried it would be

    2. Doesn't the Seagate 7k320 suck?

It's the same thickness as the laptop!!! That's almost 2" thick.

It reminds me of my friend's oldschool HP/Compaq 17" brick which had its own built-in fan.

Donald was mistaken about Pro-Star's ship date.

Pro-Star let that one slip out before they were supposed to.

Sager is shipping a TON of them today. Watch your emails tonight for tracking numbers :D

Ok, so maybe it is only a half a ton.

You were the first one to place your order...It was actually placed at 9:06PM...6 minutes after they launched :)

If you figure a complete package weighs about 10 lbs, a ton would only be about 200 of them. I hope they can do better than that! :p

The laptop weighs 7.1 pounds, and with the AC Adapter (there is no external battery charger) the total comes in at just under 8 pounds.

But then for shipping weight you have to add the accessories box, shipping cradle and the shipping boxes. Total shipping weight is about 16 pounds depending on your configuration and any accessories you order.

Donald -- I ordered mine within 2 h of its launch with the WUXGA display, but received an update email a few days back saying my unit was going into production.

Does this mean that the chassis and other components are installed and then the unit is burnt in with a WSXGA+ screen, and when the WUXGA displays arrive one will just be popped on and the unit sent my way? I'm not sure how it works :)

Can we still expect those WUXGA displays next week some time, btw?

    Thanks!

But he knows me, now I'm feeling famous :p

The weather is horrible, Today we were somewhere in the hundreds, by 2:00 PM the temp read out for my far said it was 99 degrees F, unfortunately the reader only goes up to 99 degrees. Tomorrow were @ 101F and Sunday is 104F, however, Monday we'll be back down to 94F( with , so cant complain, and my front yard still looks green, though after I get my utility my wallet wont.
Right now it's 80 degrees with the wind moving MPH from the Northeast and... haha, ok maybe I should be going to school to be a meteorologist.
