Get the NC2000 for your M860tu. Perfect size. I've used both a NC1000 and 2000 with it and the 2000 definitely fits it better. I love Zalman's. Wouldn't buy anything else. Metal on a Zalman is always cool to the touch even when not in use for a while.

Hi mate. Merry Christmas to you too... and to everyone else on the forum. :)

So you mentioned a defrag raising temps... I'm not impressed with Defragging in Vista. There's no way I can tell how far it is into the defrag, and how far left to go. Why did they opt not to put percentages on Vista's defrag?
My defrags seem to take hours and the box will say it is defragging still. I've always had to cancel the defrag after hours go by because it doesn't seem to be doing anything. But we don't even know the for sure because there's no percentage!! :(

When I try to analyse the drive again to once again try a defrag, it tells me that the drive is now fine. So either the defrag completed, or only a portion has been done and it's fooled itself into thinking it was completed.

Thanks for the recommendation. I love CCleaner so I will try that program.

And I paid about £35 for my NC2000 I think. The prices ranges between £35 - £45 I think. Depends where you are buying. The Black one goes beautifully with this laptop. Make sure you get a black one if you haven't had your chassis sprayed a different colour (the choices are just black and silver as far as I know). You will hardly notice it underneath this laptop and it doesn't draw your attention away or distract you. You will forget it's there.

you could also try smart defrag ive used it since beta and its been really good and quick and you can watch it on screen unlike vista crap defrag. i left vista defrag running the other day and it was still going 4 hours later.

Lol. I really haven't ever looked into Overclocking my stuff, so I wouldn't have a clue where to start! Doesn't it push your hardware to its limits and decrease its life? Surely the companies would give us that performance on their hardware if it were safe to do so? I don't know very much about the whole thing I'm afraid, so you'll have to excuse me if I am wrong. Enlighten me. :)

The express shipping seems better since its faster :p, but if Canada Post expedited is Xpresspost, then both have the same shipping speed.

Personally, I use JKDefrag. The GUI may not be as intuitive as Defraggler (which I have been using for few month). And the NC2000 definitly worth it :)

ummm, i've been 'defraggling' now for a few hours, is this normal? I started somewhere around 1:30pm ish, and it's now 7pm ish, and i'm at 56% 'defraggled'. My HD has a capacity of 250GB. I have only used about 80Gb of space on it. Once again, is this normal?

    thanks folks!

on a side note, seasons greetings everyone!

the computer is still pretty much brand new, and i've defragged about 3-4 times using the Vista Defragger, so I don't think it should be taking THIS long. Since my last post about 2 hours ago, it has only gone up 1% to 57%....

could it be that I have a few large games installed??

Well, overclocking doesn't decrease the life of your hardware, unless you go too far. Running moderately higher clocks won't stress your card at all; it's when you max out up to the very borderline of stability that you can cause the components to be stressed. For instance, I know that the absolute maximum that my card can handle is 610 core/1525 shader/950 memory, but right now I'm only set to 545/1325/870. Overclocking is about finding the max, but setting it to where you're comfortable. My usual clocks are 600/1500/900, but Dead Space hates my higher clocks.

Here's what I want you to look at, before you overclock:

Nvidia System Tools 6.03 is Nvidia's own tweaking tool. When you install them, they're added directly into the Nvidia Control Panel.

Click on System Information. Now check out Device Settings where you'll see all three GPU settings. If you're wary, just try out my 545/1325/870 clocks, which are way conservative for the 9800M GT.

I dont no 2 hours for just 1% thats pretty slow, i have read online that it takes some people even a day just to frag but those are usually large size hard drives or multiples, but u said urs only 250 maybe let it frag if you really need it

and guys i just did a windows experience rating and surprisingly the DDR3 memory got 5.9 score

maybe its finally recognizing the ddr3

Hmm guys im on a bit of a budget, and trying to squeeze every USEFUL item into my new NP8660 I can.
Is there any PERFORMANCE difference between the T9400 and the P9500?
I know it'll give a half hour or so more battery life while using the CPU intensively. But I don't plan to.
So the performance (FPS in games, etc) is all that matters. Any noticeable difference at all? Thanks.
Also what about 3GB vs 4GB with Vista?
    4GB worth the extra money?
I'm a 16Yr old thats been saving up for 4months and finally have enough. So you can see why I'm tryin to save as much as I can.

ill put effort on studying ;) then i would go for T9400 for cheaper price and since you are not going to be much on battery, it wont mather. I would go for 3GB cuz its cheaper too. you can still upgrade later on if you want.

I plan on changing my harddrive and processor in one or two year.

Thanks Rob, let me know what you find.
Everything I've found it only says that it'll get more battery life which I don't need so as long as thats the only benefit I'll spend the extra money on a mouse or something for gaming..
And 3GB is fine for Vista? Even gaming on games like Crysis, CoD5? Thanks.

Well i'm really impressed with deffragler, it only took a few hours to do my hard disk. And i'd done a vista defrag recently and that said my performance was good afterwards but looking at defragler it still had 70gb of fragmented files, which i found surprising, kinda shows the vista one isn't that good. Especially as defragler freed up 30gb of space on my HDD!!?!?!? I'm rly impressed.

Does anyone know why Clevo opted to use a textured keyboard for this laptop over the normal smooth ones? What are the benefits if any?

Because even though I can type on it normally, I have to admit, when I go on another system to type, you really feel the difference on the feel of the keyboards and sometimes I find myself missing the smooth feeling. lol.

Edit: Also, with defraggler, there is no status or way that I know to see what progress it has made when the defrag is on a schedule. The only way I know its running is by looking at my task scheduler. When I actually open up the program, its acting as though nothing is happening and I still have the ability to do a defrag.

What is a too high clock on the GPU? Is it when it causes the comp/card unstable in games or is it the too high temps?

If the card has a very high clock, but is stable and the temps are fine, will that decrease the cards lifetime compared to a more common OC, lets say 600/900/1600?

Got mine the other day. Love it but I have one problem. See my thread :p

How did you get it to 5.9? mine only says 5.0.

Just tried that CPU-Z program and its saying that the modules are DDR2. I starting to question if I got the ram I asked for. Is there any way to check conclusively without opening the thing up?

Fact: DDR2 modules cannot fit in the M860TU's DDR3 slots, as the pin configuration is different.

    Conclusion: Your modules are DDR3.

For me, CPU-Z shows DDR2 in the Memory tab, but DDR3 in the SPD tab.

wait a sec, I though I had the new Montevina processor.... what did I order wrong here or am I just completely confused? CPU-Z (good thing I decided to check that program out!) is saying I have the 'Penryn' processor; is that a bad thing?

man, you guys are awesome with the replies. Rob, nice photoshopping lol, looks like you took bits from each screenshot (yours and mines), and put them together to make a master screenshot or something haha!

    Multi-channel audio support?

    Got a couple of questions:

    (1) Can we get multi-channel audio via the HDMI connector? It seems to be using the Microsoft HDMI audio driver that only supports stereo (2-channel).

    (2) There is a S/PDIF output jack on the front of the laptop. What cable do you use to connect this output to a receiver? It does not appear to be an optical connector, and I have not come across a 3.5mm coaxial cable for digital audio connection. The receiver has regular RCA coax jacks.

    Thanks for your help.

    1) it should output 5.1 audio.

Thanks for the info. It's harder to find a 3.5mm to RCA mono cable, but I can probably get it from Radio Shack.

I still couldn't figure out how to get multi-channel sound out of HDMI. When I go to Control Panel (Vista 64 bit), under "Sound" there is the Microsoft HDMI audio driver. In the properties, it allows you to test for sound, but only stereo output is available for testing. I have another PC with HDMI, and on that one the Realtek HDMI audio driver is used, with multi-channel sound available. Does the Microsoft HDMI audio driver support 5.1 at all, or can we use the Realtek driver? TIA.

    Heyup people,

I've been running some basic system tests since the OS arrived - Ultimate 64-bit. Things have gone pretty swell so far, until I did the driveragent test to see which drivers I still needed. Now I know that this isnt nessacary and sometimes can even be a disadvatage. I have tried various sites so far with most of Clevo's seeming to be out-of-date. See if you can help by providing the a link to the most recent driver:

    1. The Host Controllers/ Root Port/ DRM RAM Controllers & ICH9 Universal Serial Bus Control drivers; I have tried Intels site but haven't had luck with finding the correct sets yet.

    2. High Definition Audio Device (Microsoft?); I already have the NVIDIA set up-to-date.

    3. Generic Bluetooth Radio.

I think that's it. None of them are major worries or problems. Still I'd like to top the test if it won't cause too much disruption.

    2. Audio Codecs are from Realtek: http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads...=24&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false.

As for the rest, I have no idea :/

And just a little update about the BIOS: I emailed Sager and ask them if it fixes the CPU whinning. They just sent me the BIOS update with the same copy/paste instructions without any further indications. After a second email, here's what I got:

I use Driver Detective to detect and update any out of date drivers I may have. It's pretty good at finding those you mentioned. It searches them for you within the program and you can chose whether to install the latest ones it has found or not.

But doesn't windows update come with updated drivers for things you normally won't search for updates frequently? (unlike GPU, which you'd be looking all the time)

I just use windows update in the control panel for most everything except my video drivers. Windows update automatically updated my ICH9 among others

@ livesoft: Yeah, I have already updated some of the audio drivers via Realtek. Thanks anyway livesoft. I'll try again and post the results.
**UPDATE** - Yeah, I found installing the Realtek drivers after the NVIDIA drivers seemed to work a treat! Thanks.

@ Gunsmith_Cat: Thanks for trying to help Cat. I've been looking for a free driver advisor for a while. They're always willing to tell you which one's are out of date but never tell where to get the actual drivers for the updates! Unfortunately driverdetective is just the same. In fact driveragent noticed a few the driverdetective didn't! :p

@ Deathwinger & scourge18a: The first thing I went to was Windows Update & Extras. Crammed in the whole lot and was pretty dissappointed to still be out-of-step with the updates on these fronts.
Sometimes it's just better to search them out yourself, huh?

@ anyone: Still are there any direct links to the drivers themselves. I have a feeling I am using the same chipsets as the rest of you. :D Which one's have you all been using yourselves?
