I'm wondering if anybody here plays WoW on their shiny new Clevo... I wanted to query some menu options... namely an option under the Sound & Voice menu. I've selected the Realtek High Def Audio as my default speaker sound output (as I am using the laptop speakers, not an external sound source)... I've set the sound channels to "high", as I would expect this laptop to handle it at "high" setting... but do I check the "Use Hardware" box for the sound option? Or is this just if you were playing WoW on a desktop with a dedicated sound card?

My other question is... "multisampling" which is found in the Video menu. By default, it is set to "24-bit color 24-bit depth 1 x multisample" on my laptop. The options go up to "24-bit color 24-bit depth 8 x multisample". What should I choose? I have the 9800GT card so was wondering if it would handle the 8 x multisampe option. Does it it affect framerate much?

Please PM me your replies so the thread doesn't end up taking about WoW for a multitude of posts! I'm also interested to know what options you have maxed out in WoW if you are running the 9800 GT card... and what framerates you are getting. My framerates vary, and can start off at 60.. fall to 29... pick up again... fall again. I guess it depends on the latency, my server, and how busy an area is?

i knew the shortcut keys, but, when i press them durring any game, it minimizes the screen and brings me back to the desktop.

im also worried bout my processor, i have the 45nm Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor P9500 / 6MB L2 Cache, 2.53GHz processor, and when no programs are running, each core will run at about 50% each. this problem didn't occur until after i sent my notebook into sager for repairs, so im wondering if they put somthing on my notebook that might be causing the processors to be running so high. My wireless card also refuses to connect to the internet. it will connect to my router, but it wont allow me to connect to the internet, i have my wireless card up to date by the way. anyone know what might be the problem?
-p.s. i am e-mailing sager today to see if they know a soluton, but i don't know if anyone else might have any idea.

another side note- my wireless card stopped connecting to the internet while typing this.

    Maybe some troubleshooting would help:

For the sound: Have you tried to disable the Hotkey application?

For the CPU: Maybe its the OS that have background tasks running?

For the wireless: Have you tried on another network?

I may buy this computer but I before I do, I have to know an honest opinion about the space bar. Is it really that bad? Does everyone get it? What is the keyboard like in general?

That's pretty much what will make or break this purchase.

Theoretically, can you tell definitively in Control Panel or somewhere else whether you have a 9800GT or 9800GTS (I know I have a GT, I'm just curious)?

I don't find any problem with the space bar. But it may be unresponsive if you don't depress the spacebar completly I think.

    hey thanks for the tips,
apparently Nero was running in the background.....i hate that stupid program, but luckily nothing is wrong with my m860tu anymore!
the wireless problem seems to just be a vista issue, which i will work out later.
now my cpu has bout 2-3% each instead of 50%-75%......i was afraid i was gunna burn out my fans if it kept up like this :p

I wouldn't be so quick to call it a Vista issue, as I've been running the Vista OS for years now, and I've never had an issue with wireless access. Maybe you should try getting shipped a replacement card?

If your trying to connect to a wireless network with WPA encryption switch it to WEP and it should work. There is a bug in vista involving WPA encryption, happened to me but switching to WEP solved it.

WEP is no longer secure and I wouldn't recommend anyone who wants to keep their data private to use it, infact I would only recommend WPA2 now even WPA has been hacked.

WPA2 works fine with vista, I have no issues at all.

I have 4 gigs of turbo memory but they don't seem to do anything. It's not causing any problems but I don't see any performance gain either.

I'm gunna look into it, but i dont think there is anything wrong with the wireless card, i can connect to any network just fine, im just unable to get the internet, it goes to "local only". i googled the problem and im gunna try to fix it tonight. but honestly, i would rather have it be a simple wireless problem, b/c i have loved vista so far.

So the turbo memory isn't worth it? There are 2 gigs available for 80 Aussie dollars (about $5 US). I'm not even sure what it does/how it works

I also have to toss up between the two harddrives. 320gig at 7200rpm vs 500 at 5400rpm. I really do need the extra space. Will there be much of a speed difference? the 500gig is 50 dollars more.

it really depends what you use your computer for.
    there are 3 cards out now, 1gb, 2gb & 4gb
if you havnt seen it yet check out the User Manual Here
    chapter 7 page 33

i went for the 320gb 7200 but to be honnest i dont think there would be a lot in it really. ok to a techy who lives on numbers and speeds then yes it would be noticeable but i guess it would be 10-30 seconds difference
    hope this helps

I used to have one of those Acers also AlyH! When I bought it it had just come out and seemed awesome at the time but the poor build quality became evident over time. Which is why I'm glad I have my np8660 now, as yesterday it had a freaking PARROT climbing all over it trying to figure out how to get inside the screen where all those other YouTube parrots were, and it came away without a scratch on it! :)

Though that little ******* did manage to pry up my delete key...

My laptop kept crashing when coming out of hibernation/sleep. I recreated the hibernation file and everything's fine now (at least, I think :p). Happened few times when the screen stayed black but its doesn't happen every time.

For the wireless connection, do you mean you can't connect to internet and you can only access the local network? If so, I believe its more router/network related then the card...maybe DHCP issues or modem problems. Maybe try to restart the router.

I'm not sure *** is going on..... I dont think that its my router b/c it does the same thing on my neighbors router. Furthermore I can only locally connect when I plug in an Ethernet cable into my router also so I can't use the Internet on it. So im now typing this on my iPod touch :( unless this thing picks up its act I'm gunna send this thing in for repairs (which I dont wanna do) but now I can't get on WoW.... Which ticks me off :(
p.s. Restarting the router does nothing but tick off the other ppl who are using the router :p

I believe a hardware-related problem would mean your computer won't detect the wireless card or find wireless networks. It would be weird if it wasn't more because of the software. Have you tried plugging the modem directly into the computer? Also, please try updating the drivers http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Product_Filter.aspx?ProductID=2964&lang=eng and maybe contact the manufacturer for support before saying you need RMA.

I dont know what happened....I think i scared my notebook, b/c it is now connected to the internet wirelessly..... :D I can't believe it, I restarted it b/c i figured that it would then atleast allow me to connect to the internet by plugging it in, and now it works! I dont know why it didnt work the other 5 times I restarted it, but now it does. i can't even believe it! im so happy. I love this thing (as long as it doesnt do a stunt like that again :p).
    i still cant believe it....

    www.p4laptops.com.au

One of only 2 places selling them in Australia

Got the gloss screen in 1600x1080 (or close to that)
500gb 5400rpm hard drive (needed the extra space compared to 320gb 7200rpm)
    2.8GHz T9600 CPU
    9800GTS
No operating system (I'm initially going to install Vista 32 which I already have)
Got the 2 gig extra turbo memory (but only because it was cheap)

Totals at about 3.6k Australian dollars which is a hefty price yeah but you have to pay for quality :)

    hey folks,
so I should be receiving my m860tu in the next two weeks. I ordered from Eurocom and opted out of purchasing a pre-installed Operating System because I can get any OS I am looking for + a fully legal key from my university for extremely cheap (something like 5$ I think).

My question to you all: which OS would you suggest I go for? I have never used Vista before (honestly, never even touched it) so I do not know if I would change to that from XP, unless there are substantial advantages to using Vista.

As well, I one day plan to upgrade to 4gigs of RAM. I recall hearing that i'd need a 64bit OS for the 4gigs to be recognized. Is this true?

If the specs of my unit are relevant to which OS to choose, here they are:
    - WSXGA+ 1680x1050
    - 9800 GTS
    - 2.26 GHz P8400
    - 1x2Gb DDR3-1066, PC-8500
    - 200GB SATA-300

    thanks a lot!

vista needs 1gb just to run it so 4gb ram is a must.update it yourself at a later stage.
xp or vista imo i dont think much to vista but quite a lot of people swear by it and wouldnt use anything else.
32bit vista will only see and use 3.065gb ram
to use the whole 4gb you need 64bit vista

Thanks for the info. I was planning on buying another RAM stick for cheaper elsewhere. So are you saying that if I go with Vista right now, I will only have 1 out of 2 gigs available to use bc the other gig is being used to run Vista? that sucks!

yes I did. I didnt need any of those anyways.
