double framrates in crysis. you decide if it's "noticeable".
-
I have 10500 points in 3dmark06, and I get double the fps from people who get 11k with their OCed TU/RUs.
On a general note, yes, if you have 14000 standard, you can rest assured you`ll have about double the fps from a 9.5k score. -
@Milcs, i got compensation because i ordered my laptop on aug 1st and still don't have it, u ordered it a month after me so i don't think u can rly complain . As i said though its been compensated so its ok now

If mine has one single pixel I will completely freak out... and just return it.
What's the catch with Clevo and all these dead pixels? I've never seen so many dead pixels in my life as with Clevo! -
Ye the only worry i have now is dead pixels! Milcs would you class a dead pixel as "not fit for purpose" under the trade of goods act? I would.
DK -
No doubt. And I can't really get the "no dead pixel policy". It just sounds absurd to me. I am buying a perfect laptop and demand a perfect laptop. I think it's just common sense, really...
Otherwise, one day, resellers and manufacturers will simply start recycling the LCDs returned from people with the "no dead pixel policy" to people that didn't get this... and this is frankly, unnaceptable. I do take this policy as an offense. Now we have to pay for the right to have a screen without defects? The more I think about it, the more angry this idea makes me...
So, if I get one single dead or stuck pixel, I will have a chat with my reseller and see what they say. But I would certainly not keep the laptop like that... that's for sure. -
Ye i think the Trade of Goods act would definately cover that eventuality especially when we are paying £1500 for a laptop! The No Dead Pixel policy is just a way of making more money as most people wouldn't look at the ToGA therefore i believe with the act we should be entitled to a new screen.
-
how long has this so called 30 day dead pixel policy been out.
it wasnt on the m15x when i bought it.
as milcs says, why the hell should we have to pay extra when we have already spent almost £2000/$4000 i would of thought it should all be included in the price.
i suppose some bright spark thought,"hang on, we are getting so many screens returned because of dead pixels why dont we charge the customer more to protect ourselves" -
Well, I'm guessing most resellers consider the screen perfectly usable if you have 1-2 dead pixels. I would probably mind it though but depending where they are they are usually not noticeable unless you look for them.
About the m15, indeed there was no dead pixel policy to go for. However if you read the alienware policy you would see that you could not have the screen replaced for dead pixels. There was a clear rule for that and you needed to prove you have x (I dont remember the number but maybe 3?) dead pixels around the center or y (again don't remember but maybe 5? anyway more than x ) dead pixels on the border to get it replaced.
It is indeed worrying that if I get the dead pixel thing and I return my screen with 1 dead pixel you might get my screen because you did not take the option but i doubt serious resellers do that sort of thing.
I still don't understand who's the screen manufacturer for clevo and why the screens are so bad... -
-
...which was related to a P9500 installed in an M860TU.. I'll agree the final manufacturer is irrelevant here, in this there was never any argument the M860TU is clearly (for now) the fastest 15inch notebook... In any case show me where I've made any comparison of one manufacturer against another! You must be mistaking me for someone else..
Remarks like "my Edge > your NP8660" is also not appropriate and out of context, it's a shame that someone had to bring it into the discussion.. This is an Clevo M860TU Owners Lounge, where we should try to be impartial to final branding right? Where we should enjoy the reviews and benchmarks depicted here..
But some guys just can't leave it at that -
-
My mistake, with reference to a P9500 which I originally quoted I thought that would have been clear.. But you will agree then how easy it is in a forum to be miss read, and miss quoted by subtle implications, which was my whole point in the first place.. then someone had to assume that it was in reference to a brand, now that is a shame. You can not expect folks to say now that's an honest article or review when the first line is misleading!
Also my fault I should have gone directly to the author!
-
Edge, we all know what you really meant... It's OK!
I'm sure no brand is going to put as an advertesiment "The fastest 15'' laptop in the world, if you buy it with 4GB of DDR3 1333MHz memory, 320 GB 7200 rpm, Extra super speed CPU of 3GHz and a bit and some more". The problem is... you missread Chaz's review. But that's OK! It happens.
Now... let's move on to something important... Precious is coming home! Tomorrow I should be receiving the NEXUS, which is much better than the Sager and PCMW and all those other models of laptops.
I'm HAPPPPPYYYYYYYY... -
so am i
the beast has turned into precious
good luck milcs and good luck me -
Don't forget me!

Neil@Kobalt Company Representative
The vast majority of PC/laptop/TFT etc manufacturers have an "unacceptable" number of dead pixels built into their warranty (ours, like other companies is 5).
The 30 day dead pixel guarantee is something that has been around for ages and offered by lots of companies, well before the 860TU came out. It is intended to cover specifically the first 30 days and will result in replacing the whole screen for 1 or more dead pixles in that time. Bear in mind that 17" 1920 x 1200 laptop screens cost up to £250 and this has to be soaked up by the reseller. I think £30 is a fair price to cover the first 30 days on a no questions asked basis, it certainally doesn't just go into the resellers pocket! As ioaniro said other companies like Alienware don't even offer it.
In the UK the Distance Selling Act covers (amongst other things) the consumers right to return a product within a set period of time - this is supposed to cover people who buy online without seeing the product first and it does not live up to expectations etc. It would cover the return and full refund of a product but if we were to replace a screen which had 1 dead pixel in the corner of a screen which didn't have a 30 day guarantee then it'd be unfair on those who choose the guarantee Of course it's perfectly fair to expect a laptop to arrive in pristine condition and we do check for dead pixles fully using several processes before we ship, as I'm sure other companies do. However dead pixles do happen, in the same way that other components can fail - in a 15.4" 1680 x 1050 screen there are 1,764,000 pixels -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
^--^
Great analysis!
In addition, since it seems to be the stuck, or permanently lit, sub-pixels (red, green or blue tiny light) that seem to annoy people more than a dead pixel (small black dot...less noticeable), please realize that there are 5,292,000 sub-pixels on your 1680x1050 screen.
You will also find that most of the major multi-national brands do not offer any guarantee that there will be no defective pixels on their screens, and their warranty only provides for replacement of the screen if there are over 7 (some are as high as 13) defective pixels/sub-pixels, the Sager/Kobalt/Clevo guarantee of 5 is as good as it gets! -
It's great, I agree... And I realize the restrictions applied by manufacturers on defective pixels and that all makes lots of sense.
What is odd is that there seems to be an unusual number of people reporting defective pixels which, I have to confess, leaves me a bit worried. I have never in my life had to deal with a dead pixel on any other "multi-national" brand and I can only say, I hope it won't start now.
And in the end, has Neil said (and very well), the costumer has the right to receive a laptop in pristine conditions. And I believe that's what should really matter. Every single costumer pays for perfection (be it to Sager, Kobalt, PNB, PCMW, Dell, AW, etc...) and that is what every single costumer should be presented with. It's the costumer's right.
Anyway... I can't wait to get my hands on my laptop... and I'm sure I won't have any problem with it. -
yea well i just hate the fact that the dead policy warranty cost 200$.... for the sager np8660 **** thats a lot... may i ask why?
-
oh and killernotebook is going to sell this clevo with ( i hope ) better cooling system
-
I've noticed with my m860tu that there is a sort of "high pitched whine" that you can hear. It's definitely not a fan noise, it's too high pitched, and it sort of "stutters" when processing occurs. You seems to be coming from under about the Enter or right hand Shift key.
It's quite noticeable if you don't have other background noise (e.g. tv, gaming, etc).
Is this normal?
Petrov. -
I have that very same sound actually. I've contacted Sager about it and got very little (and on the whole, useless) information back.
-
yeah ive also noticed that sound every once and a while as well. its especially annoying to me because of how high pitched it is.
first make sure its not your speakers by muting them to see if it goes away. -
Petrov, that might be CPU whine that has been so much talked about. Try enabling bluetooth all the time. If that doesn't work, look around for "CPU whining" and ways to disable it. If you actually get RMclock and play around with the setting to try and disable the "C4 state". Give it a try...
Good luck -
it could only happen to me.
was meant to receive my Nexus today but due to a ****up at dhl where some bright spark scanned my box in twice it gave an error and has not left the depot ARGHHHHHH!! -
That sounds like HD whine to me, actually. What brands are they?
-
PS milcs what about yours, did it arrive yet? -
i cant drive there as ive broken my foot and been off work 5 weeks with it
will just have to wait until tomorrow now.
oh well, at least one got to its destination (hint hint) -
Ok guys...
I've finally received it. 21 days worth of waiting... and I have to say, that was a well worth wait.
I don't have much time for through reviews on the laptop, so I will just say some things:
- Laptop is really amazing, solid, beautiful and runs really cool. GPU never goes above 80ºC (the same in the AW m15x in crysis, I was hitting 100ºC), CPU runs cools, HDD 58ºC max, so that's all OK. People that were complaining about "heat", clearly never had any high performance laptop. This laptop is just amazing in that sense.
- Screen has no dead pixels, but it's not the best screen I've ever seen. Very reflective, not excellent viewing angles and the blacks look like gray. No grayness though... Bottom line, the LCD is good enough. LCD lid is solid and ashames AW m15x, making it look like a plastic toy for 10 years old people.
- Noise: AMAZING! And I am going to say it again: AMAZING. And silent mode... well... it's really "Silent mode"! Silent mode is identical to AW's "Stealth mode" and downclocks both GPU and CPU clocks. So, I don't want to repeat myself too much but... AMAZING!
Full blast is audible, but hell... that is really not loud. I was amazingly surprised with this...
- Bad things:
-The whining noise is there and is horrible. You don't really listen to it, unless you are trying to listen to it... but it does get in your head after a while, like drilling your brain! No biggie... I'm sure we will find a solution for this soon enough.
- Leds for HDD, Battery, CAPS, Num Lock, etc... are not on the best of locations and should have been repositioned. More, Caps, Num and Scr lock Leds should have a different colour from all other Leds
- Right button of the touchpad doesn't click!
And that's all for now...
I'll give it a deeper review at some point.
For now, I can only say... UAUUUUUU! This is, no doubt, a laptop that meets all my expectations and largely surpasses it. I'm completely surrendered, amazed, delighted, etc...
Of course, this might be the "wow" effect speaking...
EDIT: Oh, almost forgot... I would personally like to thank the Kobalt brothers, Andrew and Neil, for the Nexus. It's an amazing piece of workmanship. Thanks for your effort guys. Your nexus is from another world... -
Nice one milcs, i look forward to hearing how u solve any of those probs, nice also to hear gd things from u about a laptop
I'll have mine on thursday - or i should do. Will explain more about the delay when i get a chance to write about it and will also do a mini review i think.
DK -
you know what's funny milcs, I saw the m15x again today in school cafe, so then I asked few of my girl friends what they think about it, they answered "that laptop is weird and the guy looks creepy too". and then i told them how powerful m15x is and said how's mine compare to his? "oh it's like a ferrari (5793) to mercedes (m15x), oh maybe not even a mercedes, probably a toyota" LMAO!!!!!!!!!
So I am pretty sure the majority of hotties in my school don't like m15x. -
Nirvana dude... It's a laptop, not a hottie magnet!!!
The m15x is impressive for its lights... It is nice looking, but most of the people are going to look at it and say "Men... that's a spaceship! That's so cheesy! That's like a flashy toy!". Well, at least that is what most of my friends and colleagues (and mind you, I'm not 18 anymore... almost 30) said.
The M860TU is really solid, fast, cool, sober (without being ugly)... It's just style without the neon lights. I really love it...
And De@thKnight... I've only had it for 5 hours now. I have a tendency to see all minor defects... But right now, only the CPU whining is a con.
EDIT: another why "I love the Nexus (M860TU)" reason... The security lock... guess what??? WORKS!!! (looks at m15x's "security" lock...) -
AMAZING! milcs.
congratulations bro on finally getting a laptop that you think is AMAZING! and not pants.
you certainly got your wish of receiving it before me (bloody DHL)
have now got to wait until tomorrow afternoon. no apology from them except someone scanned my box twice so it gave an error message and then just left in a corner.
oh well, enjoy your AMAZING! Nexus my friend. -
Well... you waited 20 days... you can wait 21!
I know how DHL can be a pain. I was really afraid they were going to screw it up and not deliver it (similarly to what happened with the m15x). Gladly, they did...
Oh well, I need to work and take my mind off the Nexus!!!
I don't know if I mentioned, but this is really an impressive laptop. -
SHUT UP! I have to wait till thursday stop making me jelous!!!
-
-
Has anyone else had issues with the battery in the M860TU? With it in, I get stuttering in newer games like Crysis and World in Conflict, but with it out they run silky smooth. I remember a thread in the past on this problem, but I can't locate it. Is there a fix?
Major inconvenience. -
Indicators for Num, Cap and Scroll lock should have been on top of the keyboard but its right on top of the CPU or GPU so I guess that's better since the LED won't melt
Does the left-click makes the same sound as the right-click? It doesn't make the same sound as a normal mouse but there's a small *click*. I guess that if the 2 buttons doesn't make the same sound, its not normal. -
Any dead pixels? My one dead pixel only turned up after about a day of use in my hands...
Petrov. -
I wonder why? -
I don't notice the little sound. Maybe the bluetooth intefere with something else. I can see CRT monitors flickering when I receive a call from my cellphone or observe interference when I use a cordless phone + cellphone.
-
my setup is running really slow can anyone help?
Sager NP8660 P8600 4 gigs ram 500 gig Hdd -
Anyone have issues with your m860tu dropping and re-establishing wireless connection?
Petrov. -
i am actually having horrible luck at one of my home connections to the point where i have to plug in via cable. it will only connect locally. i use other networks at other places and it works no problem. i was pretty sure it was just a really crummy internet service at the place im staying... what issues are you having? -
It's an Intel wireless 5300 card I think, in my m860tu.
Petrov. -
-Regarding the bluetooth solution for the whining noise... It solves it partially, but not completely. The high pitched noise is still there... This has to do with particular states of the CPU when it goes into lower performance states (or something like this). It really doesn't bothers me much...
- Regarding the right key of the touchpad... it's wearing in. And I couldn't really care much. I hardly ever use the touchpad. I am a mouse guy... It works, but it doesn't make the same hard clik as the left key. Nothing serious...
- Screen has no dead pixels at all but is really not an amazing screen. But it does its job and is good enough.
- Wireless- Mine doesn't disconnect, but then again I haven't used it much. Maybe it's a Vista issue, maybe it's a router issue. I doubt it is a problem with the wireless.
