    hmm very good review though!

That keeps me wondering why the ddr3 ram is the bottle neck for the system performance. That was the least expected for me!

Can some one here take the trouble of reasoning out to me. I would be really glad to hear something on that.

Why do you guys get so obcessed with numbers?
I'm sure most of the people don't even know what they mean, but as they are (supposedely) small, they have this kind of complex that makes them unhappy. Oh well... Human kind is so funny!

In any case, that windows scoring means absolutely nothing, nada, zero, rien, niente! And the DDR3 is no bottleneck and if you ever come up with something that will limit your computers' performance because of your DDR3 memory, please let us know.

    Peace! :D

Ohh! Surely i wouldnt have bothered but in case u havnt noticed every **** review shows a screen shot of vista score! So surely it does speak out some thing.

If u r not sure of what it means y do u bother to answer. BTW i only asked for the reason. Isnt it why the forum is hosted on the first place. To explain things to normal people.

Why do u take such a high tone u *******.(sorry i had to do that)

If u dont know just dont answer but dont mock people doing so

Obviously you took things very personally... I didn't mean to offend you, and the only thing I wanted to convey was: Enjoy your machine as you have one of the most powerful 15'' laptops outs there and stop worrying with having a 5.0

More, the highest value for each item is 5.9. So I guess that having a 5.0 can't really be interpreted as a "bottleneck".

In any case, for your clarification, most of the people that do know a bit about technology (where I'm not included), know that Windows Vista Index Scoring is just, and I quote "this "score" is just hype and noise -- or the more accurate term, FUD: Fear Uncertainty & Doubt that you haven't upgraded to new enough hardware for the future."

In case you want higher values, to put your mind at peace, just read this post and you can set 5.9 with all the values!
    http://blogs.tech-recipes.com/shama...ase-your-windows-experience-index-base-score/

Again, sorry for offending your susceptibility.

    The *******

    I am sorry too.

    But thnaks for the info!
Coz every review i have seen quotes the vista score. Even though they say what the score means(i mean a brief explanation below each sub score) i dont really know how its calculated or what it represents.

Again thanks for the link. I am just new to this stuff and really wanna know everything i can. so ....

BTW my hdd doesnt go over 51 even after intensive gaming nor after a transfer of 123gb of videos and music. It idles around 41-42 C. outside tem is abt 35C. Just thought people would be interested!

    Just received my Np8660. :D

The HD is idling at 49-50 C, and has not climbed above that, so I have no problems there. 3dMark06 is 9177 out of the box, with some anti-virus and anti-spyware installed. The silver trim is awesome and the amount of screen real estate is ridiculous compared to the 1280x800 monitor on my desktop. Haven't noticed any dead pixels.

I'm just happy my laptop has nothing wrong with it.

Unfortunately, I have no PC games as my 8 year old desktop can't play anything even semi-recent, so that's the next stop on my quest to break my bank account

    Glad your system is well.

you can try some benchmarks and game demo's if you want to try out the power on that beast.

    P8600 2.4 ghz
    9800m GT
Hitachi 320gb 5400rpm HDD (not sure if it's rated for 55 or 60C)
    2 gb RAM
    Windows XP 32-bit
    WSXGA+ LCD

One thing I really like about the laptop is the lack of a ridiculous glossy finish. I looked at the Gateway P-6860 FX in Best Buy and thought it just looked cheap and gaudy.

The right palm rest gets warm, but never to the point of discomfort. I barely notice it.

Today I have to buy a wireless mouse, as I can't stand the trackpad. I knew I was getting a mouse anyway, so it doesn't bother me.

I also just got my NP8660, using HDTune 2.55 and doing a full benchmark on it. Initial idle temps were 51c with a now maximum 55c while running the bench. Seems like they either figured it out or just some bad initial drives perpahs?

    My specs are as follows:

    P9500 2.53
    ST 320gb 7200 HD
    Bluetooth
    Geoforce go 9800M
    4096MB DDR3

I had never thought of this before, but how much are the taxes on the np8660?
For example, if I configured a notebook on powernotebooks.com for $2000, does that include tax or should I expect to pay another $150 or so to UPS?

    Hi Splinter,

"Power Notebooks" is located in Nevada ... so if you are NOT in Nevada ... then there will be no SALES TAX.

Let's say if you are in Seattle .. then you are A-OK. So, no Out-of-State TAX.

BTW, why not take UPS Grounds ... much cheaper ... why pay more for the shipping ... waste of money.

    G! :)

hey guys, i have a "small" problem with my np8660....i was playing Warcraft 3 online and my notebook shut off and smoke was coming out of the arrow keys. Anyone have any clue as to what is under the arrow keys? im thinking of sending it back for repairs, but im gunna take to bottom pannel off to see what might have fried. any suggestions?

EDIT: i took off the keyboard, and a wire under the arrow keys is causing the smoke.

You will be able to melt everything that's within a range of 10cm of the rear vent since some 57 degres air is coming from there. :D

RMA, RMA, RMA. I believe the RAM is right under the arrow keys

Hi octagoncows and welcome to the forum.
YIKES! smoking. looking at the above picture it looks like it could be the turbo card that is below the arrow keys.
where did you buy your computer from. if i was you i would be on the phone first thing tomorrow morning asking for a RMA for a return or even a replacement.
good luck and keep us updated on what they find to be the problem.

thanks for the welcome. i bought my notebook from xocticpc and i already emailed them and they are setting up an rma for repair. i think as livesoft said, RAM is the problem, as i dont have turbo memory and when i started up halo earlier today it said that i had no ram at all. i just hope i can get my notebook repaired fast so i can get it back.

    Thanks for the review.

While this model is undeniably fast it is clearly NOT the worlds fastest 15.4-inch notebook!! To say
with a P9500 on the first line of the review is misleading and places an unfair bias on an otherwise good review..

I'n no expert but I feel most folks enjoy reading an impartial review where the results speak for themselves, then let the readers decide.. Of course we also value your opinion..

I agree with you milcs, i think what he's getting at is its not a m860tu with a t9600 in it, its only got the t9500 therefore the m15x is faster if it has the 2.8ghz one (think this is what he means but its a pointless point tbh and the m860tu is the fastest). Then again because the m15x constantly downclocks the 2.5ghz m860tu is prob faster anyway :p

No, in fact what he means is the following:
He has the EDGE complex... And that's all there is to say really. A bit pointless as the laptops are exactly the same but, somehow, EDGE owners have this complex... Oh well, that's life I guess! In the end... another very constructive comment! :p

What compensation did you get!?!?! I want some as well! :) Well, I can't really complain as Kobalt people did treat me quite well... The only thing I would want and wish now... is a perfect laptop, with no dead pixels, no overheating and AMAZING! :)

I have the same specs as you but the P9500, 2GB and no Turbo memory. I will upgrade memory later and also buy 3 years warranty...

ROFL I'll agree with the complex thing... and your saying other manufacturer owners don't? My issue is with the misguidance of the first line that's all..

Honestly the first line sounds like an advert and instantly implies this notebook configured with a P9500 is the fastest! It's an awesome notebook however it is configured and there are a few choices.. I have to say this review is otherwise awesome and complements ALL M860TU's out there...

    PS. I love the benches!!

Well, I know how you guys "suffered" with everyone saying that PCMW was non reputable, trustworthy, blah blah...

But your comment is really pointless, in the simple sense that... Your Edge, my (to be) NEXUS, the NP8660, the whatever... are all THE SAME laptops.

You read things whatever way you want... There's a review for Sager, a review for AVAdirect, but what they all really talk about is CLEVO M860TU. And the CLEVO M860TU IS (or so its claimmed) the FASTEST 15'' laptop out there.
