Hello,
I've had my m860tu for about 2-3 weeks now. And I love this thing. But there's one thing that's been bothering me for some time now.
It's the idle hissing noise coming from right side of the notebook. I think this is like the hissing sound you hear in macbooks, or dells. The hissing goes away when I'm gaming or running something in the background.
Just wondering if there's anything I could do to get rid of this sound. Thanks.
Also I ordered from xoticpc, and my specs are:
p8400
4gb ram
7200rpm, 200gb hdd (toshiba)
9800gt

So that's what the high pitch noise was, Good observation vesti

I orderd my 860TU on sept the 2e and got it on sept the 5th
Since then I had a lot of time to play around with it so far its AWESOME!
It really does look better in real life, on the pictures I saw on the internet I concluded that it was a "simplistic" "dull" performance notebook, but when I took it out the case my mouth dropped
Things I was concerd the most about were heat and noise, it comes down to this ; its silent as hell compared to my old compaq and the cooling system is magnificant as a matter of fact I can hardly notice the full spinning fan so its basically " I can game in the librairy safe "
Only slight things I dislike but aren't going to make me sleep less is:
-Gloss screen, wished they offerd matte here
-Slight flex in the center of the keyboard
-DVD tray possitioning
-Seems I got 1 stuck ( red ) pixel, I'll go to my local dealer for a screen/unit replacement so I'm not that "upset" about it.
-Slight grainyness on white backgrounds...only in opera/webpages, non visible while gaming or any other color backgronds
- power cord plug detaches far to easy
Thing's I like;
-It's cool
-It's silent
-Screen is sharp
-It's faster then my friends car
Pic of ~9 hours idle temp after I closed out opera and a game that was running while I was sleeping
My spec's are below
So far for my mini review, back to gaming ! -
Um...a CPU running at 30 degres...I think your computer was in standy or something...and the hard drive at 44, that's just amazing.
Thanks for sharing -
Nah the hissing noise is coming from his 7200rpm and he probably does not hear it while gaming because the sound of the game cover it.
But it is a small sacrifice compared on the few second you save in all of the everyday task -
I've noticed a noise coming from the upper right side, like a mosquito buzzing it only happens when idling doing nothing, goes away when gaming doing something CPU intensive.. it's annoying
Granted I always listen to music and all, but knowing its making the noise is just as annoying as hearing it
Also CPU-Z has as processor name a T9400 while in Spesification its a p9500... o0
here's a screen of it
-
CPU buzzing/whining noise can be remedied easily:
... first make sure its not the mic receiving noise, so disable the mic (volume control)
download RMClock:
http://cpu.rightmark.org/products/rmclock.shtml
Vista users: make sure to run as Administrator and maybe disable UAC.
Make sure to check "Run HLT Command when OS is idle (restart required)" under the "Management" file.
also try to disable "C4 power state mode" -
Wow, that worked for me. Thank you.
-
pass it around if someone else has the same issue.
-
Where is C4 power state mode? -
-
-
I believe this is the original download page on the intel website. 64-bit Vista is listed as compatible, so I'm not sure what your issue is. I guess you could try downloading it again.

I've got a fujitsu 320gb 5400rpm drive and it idles around 53c, tops 63c after gaming... Not very good results are they? (i've disabled some vista harddrive "breaking" services and installed the driver that supposedly fixes temps too). Also, my GPU idles at around 58c, which is pretty high too...
-
I would not say those are bad temps.
idle temps are varied by systems' fan firmware... but the main thing is the full load temps... which should not exceed 90C for GPU and 65 for HDD. -
-
Just got word that my M860TU will be shipping thursday So excited, can't wait.
-
I connect my lappy to a samsung screen (5 series) and It looks great but the sound still coming from the laptop instead of the speakers of the screen. Any ideas?.. thnx
-
Maybe check the sound control panel and make sure your sound output port is correct? (This is just a guess)
-
hope my nexus stays about the same -
-
*update
Im using the laptop on my lap and its idling at 58c...really high for a 5400rpm hdd... -
-
Yep, installed the drivers and disabled some vista services.
-
-
DO NOT use gaming notebooks on laps and other soft surfaces (beds, couch, etc...).
ONLY use on clean, flat, hard surfaces... preferably a good notebook cooler.
if you want to use it on your lap, go get a cheap LapDesk for $10 that can even be found at a Barnes and Noble. -
Absolutely, I updated my temps during that time because of the lack of tables while writing it in a classroom after it was over. Kicker is that there's more air venting through since its resting on the edges on my lap rather than on a table. But my old temps of 53c max 61c was standard usage on a desk.

A quick question to the lucky M860TU owners...
Do you guys all have the same problem with the Caps Lock Led? From what I gathered, the led does not work and you have no way to know if you are in Caps Lock mode or not.
Can everyone confirm that their Caps leds are not working? -
I thought there was no indicator for the Caps Lock.
-
There is...
Helios just didn't see it.
There's a battery of leds close to your right wrist. That's where all the leds are. Leds for Power, HDD, CAPS, NUM, SCROLL, etc etc...
The position makes it easy for you to miss it. BUT... They are there!
I'm more relieved now! -
Imo, 58C is pretty low for the hard drive, considering it's on a lap.
-
yeah, sorry about that guys^_^ article corrected. -
my m15x was returned to the mother ship and then blown up. im now waiting on my new Nexus from Kobalt. -
-
-
Yeah, 55c max...which worries me because its gone to mid 60c on load while starting up hdd intensive software like games and etc. Also don't have any alternative to using the laptop other than on the lap while in that certain class, so its unfortunate that I had no other choice but be foolish
-
Eh, just put a hardcover book under it. You'll be fine.
-
Memtest 86+ revealed no trouble with the ram and HD Tune didn't show any errors in the hard drive.. now i'm looking to the CD/DVD-Rom drive after having reformated the entire computer earlier today. Does the drive not read DVD+R discs? Because it had not locked up until I popped one of those into the drive.

-
I also have the Run HLT Command when OS is idle option greyed out.
In addition, the entire page where I would be disabling the C4 power state mode is greyed out as it seems RMclock is unable to identify the chipset.
Any suggestions?
My Config is as follows:
T9600
4Gb RAM
Vista64 Ultimate -
if this laptop had a dual lamp or LED it would be perfect.
-
But it has worked for others using XP or Vista 32-bit.
Maybe try to run RMclock with XP compatible mode -
My HDD reached 71C after one hour of playing so I decided to replace my HDD through eurocom but I have some question
Eurocom now offer a 250go@7200 with g-force protection 5$ cheaper than the 200go@7200rpm that I have, how do you explain that
What is the performance difference between the 250go@7200 and the 320go@5400
And finally do somebody have the 250go@7200 so he could confirm me that it does no pass 60C in full load because deactivating indexing and restore point etc lowered my iddle temp under 60 but my load is still way to high(71C)
Sorry if the question keep beeing asked but I dont want another lemon HDD -
I got my NP8660 yesterday and its great, i was worrying about overheating. I asked them about it and they said my laptop is okay, so i believed them and i did right. After looking some web-site my HDD200gb7200 got 37-39c , after playing 2 hours games it has max 54c, i have Toshiba from Sagernotebooks, plus to it there is no dead pixels at my screen))).
P9500 2,53
4 GB DDR3
WSXGA+ -
I installed the driver fix and my hard drive is around 56-63. Didn't try gaming yet but now Im defragging and its at 57. Some undevolting and modding should help. I will be looking forward to replace the drive when I have the time. My hard drive is a Seagate Momentus 320GB 7200rpm.

Ok I'm in a tough decision and I've been lurking throughout NBR to find the answer, and now I'm ready to ask questions. I know owners may not be able to answer all questions, but please help as much as you can, this is a big decision for me...
My first and probably most important questions are for WUXGA+ owners:
How bright is this matte screen compared to the 15in MacBookPro Matte screen?
Are the Whites "white", or are they grey?
Is it bright enough or do you wish it was brighter? (I do a good bit of Photoshop, so I can't have the screen darker in some spots and brighter in others. This is why I want a matte screen instead of glossy)
How is the overall Picture Quality compared to the MBP?
Also is the WXUGA+ too small or is it usable? (Again for PS I need it to be right)
I can't stand glossy, so it's either this Sager or the MBP (only mattes I've found that are powerful)
My other questions are important, but pertain to all owners:
Does c4Mode Disable stop hi hissing sound permanently?
Also I've heard there are beeps every once in a while if you disable is this true? How Often? Fix?
And is there any BSoD when you disable c4?
Has anyone had any problems after disabling c4? (in Home Premium 64-bit?)
I've also heard just unchecking the popup option will fix the wine, is this true? Is there any dangers going this way?
Well I hope to hear some replies, It will be very helpful. I won't get the sager if it has a lousy screen like most laptops, or if it has that hi pitched noise I heard from my friend's 5796... I really want to get the Sager, so I hope these problems are not there (or at least can be fixed)
Thanks again guys... ^^ -
C4 is the lowest power state... it does not affect the performance or stability by disabling it.
