Anyone who owns this computer tried a dual boot yet? I'm having problems with a "Stop: 0x0000007B" error every time I use the option to "Boot from CD" from the BIOS.

Did you change the boot order so CD-drive has highest priority?

No, it boots into the CD just fine, the whole plain screen where drivers are loaded comes up, and then at the very end, when the "Starting Windows..." text comes up on the little gray bar at the bottom, the blue screen hits me.

Well, that would just be cruel. If anything those of us farther away should have our notebooks shipped sooner. If that were the case maybe mine would almost be here by now. I just got the shipping e-mail, finally. And I pre-ordered on the 25th.

Here's to hoping I get it in a week or so rather than 3+ which is sometimes the case over here.

Edit - Ah, OK, now I understand. PNB had Sager ship the laptop to them first so that they could better prepare it for the long ride over here, and also so that they could add a "token of appreciation" for my military servitude. No idea what that will be, but I appreciate it all the same especially considering they already gave me a military discount.

Grumble. I would have my NP8660 in my hands right now, if it weren't for the fact that the bleddy UPS chap decided to stick a note in my front door instead of ringing the doorbell.

Well, I'll be busy today anyway, so I wouldn't be able to give my precious the time and attention she (or would that be he? Hmmmm.) deserves. It's gonna take some time to oil my baby up before I plunge right into some games with her :)

P.S. - Kevin: If I'm not mistaken, the 9800M GT is an 8800M GTX. The 8800M GTX is a G92 chip.

Yes, the antennas are installed by Clevo, and the WiFi card will be installed by the OEM.

So, if you can order it without the WiFi card you can install your own later and the antennas will be there.

this may be a ridiculous question, but do larger hard drives run hotter? For instance, would the 200gb 7200 run cooler than the 320gb 7200?

that's my guess, but from all the posts it looks like the 200gb 7200 runs a little hotter than the 350gb 5400

You encode it in lower resolution, birate and all. You can also choose a better format (eg divx over mpeg). But I never understand why people needs to say video gameplay, considering that there is no difference in the gameplay over 20-30fps (exept if you have the FPS written in one corner :p)

so about as much of a noob question as you can get but ive never had a laptop before... can someone break down sleep vs hibernate? the different features, costs/benefits, and reasons for using one over the other

In sleep more the system will put everything in RAM and "got to sleep". In hibernation the system will put everything in the HDD in a "virtual memory". Both ways saves power and are valid ways if you want to not use your notebook, but you want to continue from whatever you are doing at the moment without having to start every program, etc at the exact time and position etc.

Good thing about sleep is that it should be faster and if the system senses the battery is reduced a lot, it will copy everything to the HDD before shut down.
The bad thing is of course that something might interrupt the system anyway while in sleep mode and you risk losing everything that you haven't saved previously.

Good thing about hibernation is that you don't risk damage if power/battery is cut. Bad thing is that it probably takes more time to resume from it.

I don't know which uses more power, probably Sleep.

I have never used either one, with a notebook or desktop PC because I find them useless for me, but others of course would disagree, eh, for themselves.

The first time I ran '06, I scored 9029. That might have been before I upgraded my NVIDIA drivers.

    I have Vista too.

    Mrrrrrh.

My NP8660 arrived today. No problems with it so far; the area around the bottom right, were you to view the laptop from above, gets a -little- warm, but nothing spectacular. In point of fact, it's almost welcome; the left side is a little shockingly cold when touched to bare skin. Heh.

The only problem: I originally ordered Vista Home Premium, but later upgraded my order to Business. The notebook came with Home Premium. Sigh. Any ideas about what can be done without having to wait a few days for whatever (CD, notebook, etc.) to be shipped back and forth? This is especially worry for me because I live halfway round the world, and need Vista Business to connect to my university domain.
