I don`t wanna buy another laptop. I love my screen and would not risk waiting a month for a screen that MIGHT have dead pixels or such.
I only want to replace the GPU,but for now it`s still kicking ass. Even in Crysis, albeit at WUXGA/2 .

My headphone jack is dead too!

Well, not 100% dead; sound comes out of the right speaker/earphone when I have something plugged in, but not the left. I plan on taking a peek at the connectors next time I have my back open to blow out my fans/sinks, but in the meantime I'm just using the line-in remapped.

Well, the RealTek HD Audio manager lets you define what your three front jacks (line-in, headphones, mic) do. So, you can just remap one of them to 'front speakers' and you are good to go. I was actually using all three (with line-lin and mic remapped) with some older logitech x-540 speakers for analog 5.1 surround sound before.

Anyway, that's what I've been doing, in any case. Not sure if there is any loss of sound quality or anything doing this, but Bioshock and Crysis still sound great to me so *shrugs*.

    How 2 do this sterben?

The audio jack in the 5793 needs to be improved, all the other ones are good, but not the audio one. It isnt sturdy enough.

Well, I have the 5790, but they should be comparable.

If you have the RealTek HD Audio Manager installed (it comes pre-installed iirc, if not you can download it from Sager), it should automatically detect when you plug something into the line-in or microphone jacks on the front. By default, it should pop up a window asking 'The current connected device is:' and have a number of options you can choose from. If it doesn't do this (ie you turned off the auto-popup), you can go into the audio manager and click on the folder icon to the upper right of where it says 'Analog' and renable this option. Then, next time you plug something into, say, the 'line-in' jack, it will show the popup, and you can just select 'front speakers' or whatever you want.

I bought a USB sound card seing as none of the other 3 jacks could provide sufficient volume as the original headphone one.
That audio jack needs improving, that`s for sure.

I thought about getting a usb card, but given that I just shelled out all that money for the 8800M, when I mentioned the idea to my wife, I got a cold, hard stare. If she had been looking at my laptop I think it might have fried my new card

Wow, that's actually really cool and makes watching movies in a quiet room w/ others much easier. Thanks for this!

I'm also noticing a volume difference, but that could just be because of the 2 types of headphones (one of them is in-ear monitor, Shure). Is it possible to adjust the volume individually?

    that's good.
I've narrowed my choices down to these:
    Sennheiser HD 280 Pro
    Sennheiser HD 555
    Speed-Link Medusa 5.1 Home Edition

Well let`s put it this way. I use it as a home theater system, but at a party I took my laptop and the speakers and man, they were too loud :D
So they`re professional. The AL speakers costed some 90-100$ and they were well worth it.

I think you should separate them into vista and xp. Still get better scores in xp.

Good that you didn`t . There are always good offers on RAM, but I take it you`re not in the US.
Just look for A Data,Patriot,Micron,Corsair,Kingston,Kingmax etc with 200 pin.

Are you saying the 8800M GTX works perfectly on older 5790/1 systems?
That is odd, there was a forum user, forgot the name, he installed the 88M GTX and has the sleep issue. 5790.
I don`t care about it but I want to switch to the extreme mainboard along with the upgrade to the 88M GTX.

but is it worth 155$ extra plus 37$ for return shipping plus 25-30$ for shipping there and them taking apart the whole system?? so about 222$ for the better heatsink?? btw i have a t7500 as well.. have we really seen better numbers cooling wise from the new heatsink?? more than just a few degrees?? i really wish they would sell the parts to us separate....

I`d like the Montevina platform better. I also plan to upgrade the CPU,maybe a Penryn...

yeah for the penryn i guess you have to do the mobo upgrade correct?? that is the only reason i am torn about the whole deal or just the gpu.. i cant do the mobo correction i guess because i have rev 4.1 and i guess you need 4.2 or higher..
