If you have done it with a desktop you should have no difficulty with a current laptop.

See the 8800m GTX isntall guide linked to on the first post

My 8800M GTX arrived today so I installed it on my Sager NP5790 (specs in my signature.) Pretty nice improvement from the 7950GTX. Can actually turn up my settings in most games at 1440x900 and 1680x1050 with playable framerates. Check out my 3DMark06 score here!
-
nice dude congrats.
Did u OC the GC for that score? -
-
The frequency of M570ru RAM is bridled at 667Mhz, I have 800Mhz. Apparently it is impossible to force the board to accept the 800Mhz. So I want timmings increase in the BIOS, so I tried the latest BIOS (1.00.08) which would normally add tools OC. Unfortunately no additional option is available. ^^
-
(just yankin' ya chain ) -
So no S3 for you?
How much was it, TOTAL ?(the 88M GTX+shipping) -
-
ARE YOU SERIOUS? 223$ to ship a stinkin GPU that`s less than 1 pound? no offence, but that sounds unfreakinbelieveble.
Sure, 223$ for the 15pound laptop sound ...erm,sort of ok, but for the GPU? MAN, that SUCKS. -
-
Damn,in that case, IceMan`s offer sounds cheaper lol.
It`s a good thing I`ll upgrade when in the US
Hopefully the 9800M GTX will get released and I`ll skip the 8th series -
So, will the 9800M GTX be the same size MXM module as the 8800M?
-
-
That's good to know, thanks.
-
So, it it gauraneteed it will work w/o mobo replacement?
-
never that guarantee.
Like I said before:
Clevo tries their best to design their notebooks sufficiently for future technology.
The 8800M GTX requirement of a new motherboard was due to Nvidia changing up the specs of the module from the previous 7950GTX and 8700M GT. -
Well if it doesn't, at least the 8800 is high end, so there probably wouldn't be that much of a performance gain in the 9800 anyway.
-
you can look at the posts from 2 years ago. and i swear it's funny.
you can change the words 8800 for 7900 and you couldn't tell the diff.
it's their plan.
it's how they do business and how they have been doing it for years. -
Clevo tries to be the innovators, they will move to a next technology before most of the other notebook ODMs.
So they have to design for future upgrades as sufficiently as possible.
I was here when the previous generation of Clevo's (mine included) were hoping to upgrade past 7950GTX... I knew it was not going to happen because the 8800M was still a pipedream and there was nothing on the horizon.
Thats technology... but the sure thing is that Nvidia has not even officially announce their MXM-IV slots in the Clevo's yet... and they have been debuted for a whole year now.
Its freakin bleeding edge still. -
if they designed their ugprades at all. they wouldn't need a mobo upgrade.
ala dell. -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
dexgo, have you ever actually tried to get a real DELL upgrade, or known of anyone who actually did?
Was it any cheaper than getting a Sager upgrade even if it required a new motherboard? -
here are some newer benches with my T7250 @ 2.5ghz:
-
System - T7300 OC'd @ 2.2GHz, 8800mGTX, 3gb RAM, XP SP2, 167.43 drivers overclocked @ [Core: 550, Shader: 1400, Memory: 850].
3DMark06 @ 1280x1024 = 9516
For more details, click here.
I've tested a few times and [550, 1400, 850] is the highest stable clocks I can set before my system starts slowing down at random parts in games and 3DMark06. -
Good to know you installed the 8800MGTX successfully and get such a great 3DMark06 score with a bit of tweaking.
-
Geforce, is that score on Vista?
-
Soon to be a Clevo M57RU owner
Well, a 'Metabox' actually (I live in Australia) just ordered it the other day, should arrive in a week or so!
I have read every page of this thread (all 33+ pages lol) and you guys pretty much sold me the laptop, with so much information on hand, I think I know pretty much all I need to know about this laptop, which definitely relaxed my nerves.
Will let you know how I go -
-
Hello,
I'm planning on buying the M57RU DIVINE-X but I have a bunch of questions before that, that I hope someone here can answer.
Here are the specs that I have in mind from eurocom:
Built-in WebCam: None
17 Glossy WXGA 1440-by-900 pixels
8x Multi DVD +-RW/-RAM Burner
T7700: 2.40GHz; FSB800
Go 7950GTX 512MB
1x 2GB DDR2-800
120GB 7,200rpm
Operating System: None
Wireless LAN: None
Bluetooth: None
1 Extra Power Cord: USA/Canada
Total: 1864 CAD + shipping + tax
(As you can see it is stripped down to lower the customs duty and VAT. I will buy Wireless LAN and Zalman ZM-NC2000B and 1 extra GB RAM and probably windows XP OEM in Europe)
Does anyone here have any experience with Eurocoms service? (Ive e-mailed them twice now and still havent got any replies from them yet. And now its Easter so I guess Ill have to wait till Tuesday)
Why isnt there any difference in price for RAM between 667 and 800 MHz?
Have anyone with a somewhat similar system as above tested supreme commander and how smooth that runs?
Ive heard that you can use OS X and emulate XP, is that true and does it work well with games? (Ive never used OS X)
Eurocom gives three options for wireless LAN:
802.11a/b/g WLAN; 54Mbps; Intel® Wireless 3945ABG; NAPA; MiniPCIe
802.11n; up to 300Mbps; Intel® Wireless WiFi 4965AGN; Mini PCIe; 2.4 and 5GHz
802.11n; up to 300Mbps; Wireless Wi-Fi; Gigabyte GN-WI06N-RH; PCIe Mini Card; 2.4 and 5GHz
Whats the difference and does it matter which one I choose?
How long would a notebook like this last? 2 years?
As I wont get an answer from Eurocom soon Ill ask here: do they only ship with courier mail internationally? I dont mind waiting two weeks for the package (with regular air mail) and it wouldnt arrive in three days anyway because of the customs. (My previous experience with ordering from North America with UPS is not good: the package was delayed 3 weeks + absurdly high brokerage fees + nonexistent customer service.)
Eurocom only accepts wire transfer with international orders and as I have never done that to Canada or US before I dont know if the receiving banks (in this case Bank of Montreal) charge any fees in which case there would be another delay as Eurocom doesnt get the whole payment. Anyone here know if they do?
Im very grateful for answers to any of my questions or directions to where I can get them. -
Welcome to NBR treelife !!!
On the Specs:
Its OK, but I would strongly suggest upgrading to the 8800m GTX. Its 2x faster than the 7950 GTX. I f price is too high, ask about their student discount.
It will last at least 2yrs, with the 8800, being able to play games for the next couple of years.
For the wireless, it depends on the router you havem although I would go with the 2nd or 3rd one.
Look at the follwoing resellers in Europe:
Rock Direct
Kobalt Computers
Evesham
Also, try Xoticpc.
Good Luck!!! -
thanks!
I'm tempted about the 8800m gtx.
thanks for the tip.
I couldn't find any configuration to my liking from those resellers so I'm back to Eurocom - changing to 8800m gtx it would cost 2114 CAD + shipping + tax... it's definitely tempting. -
Never Mind.
-
Are you from canada tree life?
-
Apart from that:
1. consider to go for faster, newer and cooler T9300
2. if you have some money to spare go for the 8800, it "belongs" to this rig
3. the wlan 4965 runs much faster in my NP5973 than the 3945 in my NP9261
4. this notebook will "last" 3 years before it submerges in mainstream
5. check Xoticpc for good prices and let Eurocom give you a fair discount to level that -
-
how good is that NZXT CRY-001LX cooler you have Sandman101? compared to ZM-NC2000 which one is best suited for M57RU in terms of vent holes matching with the fans?
-
Can I use XP on T9300? if yes, then, 10 extra CAD is nothing.
I'll probably buy 4965 then.
thanks! -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
No, 1440x900 is a good resolution for a 17" screen...you just wouldn't want to go any lower
Yes, you can use the T9300 with XP.
Enjoy -
T9300 it is then. thanks.
by the way, what's the brightness, response time and contrast ratio on these displayers?
and where do I put the second RAM memory - a picture would be nice? -
I haven't had a lot of time for testing yet.
What program is good for simulating a load for testing?
Depending on the ambient temperature I seems to lower by a few Celsius. It is very quiet at low speeds. It is very solidly built. My one gripe at this point is that it did not come with any type of manual.
I am looking for power adapter, today, to test any difference in running it off of usb or AC.
Also, it's not as heavy as I though it would be. -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
In today's world manuals come on the driver CD.
Paper has become obsolete! -
-
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
Shyster1, I'm not sure you have enough to do
-
I've done some extensive searching and it's impossible to find the NZXT CRY-001LX in Europe, so I guess I'll have to go with Zalman ZM-NC2000.
-
-
is there any difference of installing Xp home or Pro on the Sager NP5793?? Difference as in performance in gaming or anything else??
-
Not really. They`ll be the same in terms of performance, but the Professional version will have some more features.
Good ol` www.google.com will help -
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=233146
I used ATI tool to test load, but this one looks intense gunna try it when i get my NP5793 -
Sorry, thought I replied to treelife. I meant the NZXT CRY-001LX has no paperwork and since it doesn't come with a disk. In fact there wasn't one piece of documentation in the box.
I am also having a few problems with it. When I plug it into the usb port I get a error from windows saying that "A power surge has been detected in the usb hub, to correct....blah, blah...."
Which is another reason why I'm looking for the AC adapter for the cooler pad.
I have already contacted NZXT and let them know although I am happy with the product. If it won't work with my laptop, I will be sending it back to newegg.
Thanks EDiT808 - I'll give it a go. Also looking for a CPU one.
