I currently have a M57RU (at least that is the model name and it also looks like it) in front of me and I want to remove the keyboard. The service manual said that I simply have to push those 5 latches. Well, I can push 2 at the time but the keyboard just doesn't move at all. I can't even leve it since there's just not enough space to get a screwdriver or anything between the keyboard and whatever's below that.
I had an EeePC and after pushing the latches the keyboard basically jumped out by itself. But in this case it feels like the keyboard it screwed on tightly.
*edit*
Umm yeah. Nevermind. I knew that I'd figure it out after posting the problem. It's always like this.
You have to push the latch with a screwdriver and then directly lever it with this driver. Or something like that.

Hey guys, having a problem with my M57RU (about 4 years old).
Worked properly for pretty much the whole time (I did break the warranty within a week because an inverter wire was pinched behind the lcd) but recently getting a weird problem.
Basically the whole thing freezes after about 45 minutes of active browsing/video/gaming and when shut down refuses to POST (hd light goes on, off, wireless goes on and that's it) for an hour or two. Also seems like it can idle for at least 4 hours (left it on while writing an exam).
This leads me to believe that it is an overheating issue so I ran speedfan but the only thing with a T above normal was the HD (at about 51C which shouldn't really cause a problem).
Current plan is to open her up again and check all the connections/cables, reseat the GPU and try again. Any explanation/help appreciated. -
Try re-seating the RAM - ie take it out and put it back in and make sure it clicks in properly. Try booting with one RAM module installed at a time.
Download and run memtest from a boot CD.
Check your CMOS battery isn't flat - my computer same age just needed replacement. Was really unreliable - unexpected shut downs, fans running too fast etc, until I changed the battery.
Hope it's an easy fix!! -
Thanks to LAZAS for the hinge replacement photos. (page 106)
I left my M570u open on my desk in the morning, apparently all OK. Returned home and it's sitting there with the left hinge snapped off. I think my cat may have been involved, but she admitted nothing...
I found a new hinge cheeeep on eeekBay and hopefully it arrives soon. -
How would I go about getting to the CMOS battery? From what I've heard here it's under the palmrests so seems to be a bit of a to get to. The SM doesn't seem to say how to do it directly.
Also, reseated the RAM and GPU today and ran a 1080 video, it froze before any temperatures went up so it's either the GPU messing everything up or the mobo. -
In the m57 0u the cmos battery is in the underside of the computer next to the hard disk.
As it's harder to find in your laptop, it's best to check first if replacement is necessary.
Try shutting down the computer, unplug the power and take out the main battery pack. If the time is still correct when you plug everything back in, then it won't need replacement. -
I'm just grasping at straws here...I have a linux netbook that runs great and will be getting a new desktop early next year but still would like to fix the old laptop =)
So far the only thing suggested was changing the battery (mind you, being a software guy myself, I don't know much about the mobo...) -
Did it pass memtest?
Only other idea I have is to blow all the dust out with compressed air. That's a common problem for overheating. -
Is there anything other than the CMOS battery that can prevent the laptop from POSTing?
Edit: Well, tons of things...but something that would prevent it from even getting to the first screen but booting up properly at other times...
Edit2: Got my hands an a UBCD and tried out a few things, froze on both the cpu stress test and memtest (funny thing is the "esc" reboot still worked but of course it didn't POST). Now I just have no idea why it's dying. Not overheating, not an actual hardware problem, likely not the CMOS battery...
Edit3: I am convinced that it is a serious hardware problem so I'm probably going to part this thing out, anyone interested? Not sure about the mobo/gpu but the screen, ram etc. should be good in case someone needs a replacement =) -
anybody know where to order replacement fans for the m570ru.thank you

So is it official that the 3700m card from hp works in our spec laptops? This is good news,as i though 8800m gtx was the top card we could use.Dont get me wrong the 8800 still does the job mind, but that 3700 card is the equivilant of a 280m gtx?

Hi Guys,
Here's hoping someone can point me in the right direction to resurrecting my dead M571RU-U.
Upon boot, the LCD panel illuminated but displayed static banding in "pastel shades" but with no evidence of information from underlying screens; either text from BIOS or anything Windows might be displaying. The chassis LEDs flickered as and when you'd expect them to and it was evident that Windows was loading by virtue the Windows startup tune was audible. Connecting an external monitor produced no output at anytime no matter how many times Fn+F7 was keyed. That convinced me the GPU was at fault and not the LCD. I took the card from it's copper casing and baked it for 9 mins at 385F etc. When re-installed, I was dismayed to see a totally black screen, although the chassis LEDs still flickered and it was evidently still booting, albeit unseen. I baked the GPU a second time, which resulted in black screen, but now wouldn't boot and no HD activity evident etc. Powering up laptop with the GPU removed appeared to restore the boot sequence and HD activity ensues, until the POST produces beeps, presumably complaining about the absence of video circuitry?
Being unable to source a replacement 8800GTX card in the market place, encouraged by information within the threads on this forum, I aquired a 9800GT card for $475 from US based seller. It was described as "new, direct from manufacturer" and so seller woudn't accept returns.
I was hopeful that given both it's physical and architectural similarities to the 8800GTX, it would at least, allow me to boot into BIOS, whereupon I could flash it with a 8800GTX video BIOS.
With the 9800GT installed, there is now some video output... of sorts. Upon boot, the M571RU starts the renowned 30 second beep and the accompanying error message is displayed, but there are also many mosaic like artefacts on screen which obscure the message in places. When the beep countdown reaches zero, the laptop immediately shuts down, giving you no opportunity to do anything more!
This, and the presence of the artefacts, leaves me to believe that I have been sold a dud GPU card, but clutching at straws, maybe it's because the current video BIOS is wrong? I'm now in the annoying situation that I can't attempt to apply a new Video BIOS when the laptop won't stay on long enough for me to do so with the video card that needs flashing installed!?
Without perhaps, installing this card in someone else's laptop that is designed to take a 9800GT natively, I can't see that there is any way forward?

Sorry to hear of your miss fortune,it points to a doggy card, but the bios is also a factor can you get into the bios with the f2 key?
An alternitive is the 3700 hp gpu guys on here reacon works.I have found these for 129 pounds or 179 dollars,a fraction of the cost of 8800 cards. You could try to bake the 9800 or return it if possible.Did the 9800 come from an alienware? If so the bios could be the issue. -
I saw the card on Ebay and seller (aliennation2010) had 900+ 100% +ve feedback buying and selling high end computer components, laptops etc. When I asked about possible movement on price, he offered to sell outside Ebay and so could discount a little due to saving on Ebay selling fees. Given his feedback record, I agreed, but unless the alienware BIOS is exclusively to blame, he clearly seized the opportunity to offload this duff card on me in the knowledge I couldn't leave him negative feedback. Not impressed! I'm loathe to resorting to baking this card just yet.. particularly given my current track record!
As I currently have no means of confirming for sure, the operational status of this card, unless I can somehow get into BIOS, I am inclined to sell it on for whatever I can get and let someone else take it on.
Meanwhile, I'll look at the 3700 HP or maybe a 8600M GT to at least restore my Clevo "paperweight" into something of use again. -

niffcreature ex computer dyke
Lenovo branded 3700m cards also work and can be overvolted for more overclocking.
-
The 3700 is a complete drop-in, then?
Don't have to mod my heat sink or anything? -
RanCorX2,does this new card perform better than the 8800m gtx?Is it worth the upgrade in terms of gaming grunt.Max 3d mark score of mine is 11600 what score do u get?
If my 8800 bites the dust then its an obvious choice for that price,as the other guy asked can we just drop it in no heatsink tweaks?
thanx -

Hey, has anyone gotten their webcam to work on Windows 7 (64-bit)?? Ever since I upgraded to this version of Windows, the webcam on my M570 doesnt work. I keep getting a prompt when I try to launch it but I press FN-F10 and its already turned ON. Its as though the "bison" drivers dont work..

Hi
I have a problem with my display. When I turn my computer on, the display will mostly not come on. Same goes for external display when I have that hooked up. I have to restart my computer maybe 10 times before the display comes on.
My take on this is that its a GPU problem. I have the 8800gtx card. I have noticed that moving the computer around a bit and then starting it sometimes will help. Makes me think there is a faulty connection somewhere.
Am I right this is a GPU problem? Could it be something else?
Should I be looking for a replacement card?
Thanks! -
If you move it around then it works then try to remove it ,it is quite simple to do.Try to reseat it and reaply the thermal paste. Then if that fails then u can bake it in the oven(google).
Or our modles can take the hp 3700m gpus at 120 pounds or 175 dollars its a hell of a replacement.Good uck -
Thanks. The fan under the delete key is making a lot of noise. I guess it's the GPU. Do you know anything about the noise levels on the hp 3700m gpu?
Is there a quieter card out there? I don't seem to have times for games anymore and just want something less noisy. (if I can't fix my card that is) -
hey does anybody have an old sager np5791 fans.or know where i can buy some.thank you
-
can somebody send me a mp3 ofr recording of their noise on a sager np5791 with the fans on low and hi so i can figure out if i should buy some replacements
-
rat if you look on youtube the is a guy on these forums who has a video of just that;the noise of the fans
-
Still need a motherboard here....
-
h guys ! what are the graphics card that fit in the m570ru? I'd like to know the cheaper , because I know the 8800m , the 9800m but I don't find it at good prices
thanks -
emish89: there are lots of pages discussing comparable cards...one of which so far that I've seen is the fx3700m card. I just ordered mine for 187 usd. with free shipping. My 7950gtx is causing lots of lockups and I'm tired of weekly baking sessions
I'll let you know if it works...and then i wanna see the performance upgrade to the x9000 proc from a t7500(es) at stock speed.
Anyone that has an executioner RU know the performance increase from the t7xxx series to the x9000 (please don't quote sites for stats...I've read those..just wanted to know personal opinion)
Thanks guys,
**UPDATE:3/5/2011 :: I just got my fx3700 and dropped it in. One little issue is the video card casing bottom portion didn't fit right..it was made for the 7950gtx hole outs. No worries, I did a bit of modifying and left one portion out and turned on my lappy...and BAMN! works like a charm. no lockups anymore and system runs a tad cooler now. One oddity I'm finding is cpu-z and the nvidia system app are reporting the wrong clock speeds...i mean way wrong. maybe it seems to be from the card not originally not supported?? but running 3dmark03 i get 33K score and mark06 about 5K ..which is what other sites say I'm supposed to get....any ideas? (oh..my windows score for gpu went from 5.9 on a 7950gtx to a 6.8 on the fx3700)

Monkeyboywa,
How is the noise level compared to the 8800m? Does it run any quieter? -
Hi,
After installing Win 7 64-bit on my laptop, everything is working fine with one exception.
The built-in microphone doesn't work. On the Recording Devices tab the first one is selected. If I tap the front right of the laptop I can see that the microphone detects some input.
On the Sound recorder application it just comes back and says: "An audio recording device cannot be found".
I downloaded the Sager Audio drivers and tried them to no avail. The Device Manager, Sound, Audio & Game controllers -> High Def Audio Device is a Microsoft Device.
Is there a specific Reaktek driver I need for this or is the mobo/mic just knackered ?
Thanks

Anyway, thanks for the link to clevo, same problem, same hinge, paid £21 inc del which was next day. So thanks again if you ever stumble across this post -
Well, I give up. I have tried everything I can think of and am still clueless so...time to ask for some help!
Anyhow, I have an m57ru laptop. It works great, always has. It is in flawless condition and has almost never even left my desk. Recently I did decide it was time to wipe it though. So, I formatted and reinstalled Vista (64bit). Now, all drivers are reinstalled. I used new drivers when possible (like new Nvidia drivers and such). Now, the system works great BUT the sound does not work correctly.
The problem is, only the sub seems to work. Really no audio at all from the speakers...just a very low level muffled sounding audio can be heard. When headphones are plugged in they (the headphones) sound fine and (and this seems odd)...if you plug in a headphone connector about halfway...then the laptop speakers sound fine but the sub goes away. Really I dont think its the headphone jack cause it looks just fine and works just fine too.
I have tried all manner of Realtek drivers, newest from their site, the oldest off the driver disc and several in between. Anyone ever EVER had this problem before? -
Sadly the sound system is the weak point on M570RUs. The issue that you described can be found on my machine too. In my case before the current malfunction I had an opposite problem (Speakers worked- Headphones didn't) sent it to a German Clevo retailer for repairs and after that it worked great until a few months later speakers stopped working. Tried all the drivers , but nothing worked, so it seems to be a hardware issue. Popped the hood to do some visual inspections and only noticed a wire soldered in-between SMD's from the first repair.
-
Ugh. Im tempted to wedge a paperclip in the headphone port to be able to hear the darn speakers. Oh well. Speaker Bar time perhaps.
-
Sorry if I am posting this in the wrong Thread/Forum. I got a 9800m gts card cheap and to my fault I did not check to see if it was compatible with my 7950 heatsink/heatpipe and it is not. From pictures it looks like a 8800m heat sink would work, but I am having trouble finding a vendor. Anyone have one for sale or know of a good vendor?
Thanks,
Clevonewb -
A few items, i notice the power scheme seems to stay more in the "idle" side then the performance..but that's ok. ALso, the reason i replaced my 7950gtx was due to screen artifacts and system lockups....to which the artifcacting is gone but i'm still having an issue of occasional lockup (lasting up to a full minute) which HDTune seems to point to something going on in the HD area..(i'm getting Ultra DMA CRC Error Count issues) so i'm trying to figure out that issue.
Summary: Although my 7950gtx pretty much has died...i'm really happy with this fx3700M. It performs better then my old card ever did.
***NOTE: one thing i'm looking at is possibly a DIY viDock...what it's capable of ..by adding new card technology (imagine a 580gtx ultra on this laptop...) look up viDock and you'll see we're a perfect candidate.
Sorry for rambling..just wanted to give an update. -
Does anyone here know where I can find 9800ms gs vbios ? or a vbios from another card that be the same as 9800 gs, and be compatible with M570RU.
I got one that was pulled from an Asus W90vn, but one I installed in my lappy and it shows boot video, but sound 30 senconds beep as some guys said and when the beep stops the lappy turns off.
I think I only need to flash a vbios from a clevo VGA card. -
I have an issue with my GPU (I think), an m8800gtx. Full write up here. I will be getting a desktop gaming machine, but I would like to not turn my beautiful Sager into a paper weight.
Is there a list of compatible video cards? I would like performance to be the same or even better. I have stock everything, including heatsink, and I can do the replacement myself. Is the m9800gtx compatible with the MB and heatsink?
Thanks! -
9800m GT or 9800m GTS would be fine.
Or you can use a FX 3700m with Geforce drivers and you´ll get a better performance than with the 9800m GTX, which is NOT supported.
You can even use GTX 280m if you flash the vBios to FX3700m (GTX 280m is NOT supported, but FX3700m is, but the vBios of the 3700m works perfect on the GTX 280m)... -
Monkeyboywa Did you have to flash the bios etc to get the 3700 to run?
Am i right in saying you have the m750ru / 5790 ( not 1,2,3 )
Also i remember that someone ( Cant remember who ) had upgraded their machine to have 8GB of ram, does anyone know if this would be possible on the original 5790 ? -
Hi,
New to the lounge. Just got a broken M57ru for $100 and fixed it! Woot! One problem. Has a dead battery. I tried replacing the cells in it before discovering that it's not that simple.
Anyway, I know what I'm doing now and am looking for an old, dead battery that I can put my new cells in. I'd be happy to pay shipping plus $10 for your troubles. Anyone have a dead battery they were going to trash? Send it to a new home instead!
Thanks,

Update: got a Quadro FX 3700m (HP version), installed with a small heat sink modification, and it's running fine. I modded the driver inf to make it think it's a 9800m gtx (not sure if that was the best option, couldn't find a modified inf with 280m gtx). 3dMark06 9438 (do not remember what I had before), temps seem to be stable.

Does anyone know a source for the audio connector parts? I am looking to replace my broken ones.
I tried many typical internet sources for Surface mount parts, but all failed.
Please help. -
I would like to upgrade my np5792 but am unsure of what products to purchase. Any advice on specific models of upgrades would greatly appreciated. I definitely want to upgrade my wireless card but again, not sure what to buy. Below or my current specs. Thanks.

Has anyone used an Internal Digital Tuner Card on the M57ru? I ordered one on Ebay for like $15. It's the Avermedia A301, I believe it's compatible but does it use an internal antenna, or do I have to connect an external one?
-
If you get it working please report. I would be very interested in getting one i knew worked.
Also i am still looking for the audio port replacement parts. -
My hinge on the left side broke too. Found a replacement on ebay for $20, I got lucky. Must be a common thing on these laptops.

Do you have a link to the one you bought?
