Yep, broke the right hinge of my M570RU a few months ago and finally found the funds, the time and the dealer. So let the disassembly begin !!
Every DIY repair has a happy ending, as long as one can locate a dealer, who can supply them with reasonably priced parts. In this case I got my item from Clevo UK, because neither KOBALT neither NOVATECH respond to my requests, so screw them. The hinge costed 7 £ + 10 £ second day delivery.

Glad your Clevo back to work again.

For everyone interested in the 260m on the M57ru, I have ordered the card from RJTech.com. I've bitten off the bullet and I am counting on help here at NR to get me through any battles that might arise. I should have the card by Apr 1.
If it can't be made to work then I guess I will have to sell it to someone that can definitely use it. We'll all see what happens.

Should work.

Hey all
Quick version:
I would like to install Windows 7 on my Sager NP5793 (Clevo M570RU). Is it possible and if so what is a general flow?
Long Version:
I have a 1 year old Sager NP5793 (M570RU). Having read through the Clevo FAQ I have alot better understanding of how some of this stuff works, so thanks for all that info.
Anyway after 1 year I am reinstalling OS for various reasons. I have been using XP 32bit but was interested in moving to windows 7 either 32 or 64 bit. I called Sager and the tech guy answering the phone said that Windows 7 is NOT supported with drivers by the motherboard and I should stay with XP or move to Vista.
Can I get a stable functional Windows 7 build with my setup or should I stay with XP? If I can move to Win 7, should I go with 32 or 64 bit? I will be installing Pro and plan to use the virtualization to get XP support for older apps.
Also I am a little confused as to the process if I am able to do this from a driver installation perspective. I have it easy using XP and the driver disc from Sager so I would need a little help on the flow to get the right drivers on.
Thanks for the help, here is my exact laptop.

Thanks for the help -
Hey all, i got a quick question that i seem i can not find anything on.. how do you remove your keyboard on your sager M57RU? i choked on some coffee and it went flying all over my keyboard lol now my keys do not work and i am trying to figure out how to clean them? any information would be appreciated thank you

I've seen a couple of 8800m gtx replacements on Ebay but being physically identical, the 260M would be the obvious way to go if it can be made to work and I'm about to spend several hundred on a new card anyway.
Perhaps it isn't electronically compatible on purpose as being more powerful, it's power and cooling requirements exceed the design parameters of the RU motherboard? -
-
Need some expert advice on this one, because some time ago my LCD started showing a pink vertical line on the right side of the screen. It is not related with software, because updating drivers did not solve the problem and you can not take a screen-shot of it... While changing the broken hinge I checked the LCD connections and they looked good: no oxidation, snug fit. I doubt if it is related with the LCD panel. My guess is that the GPU is going bananas or the connection on the motherboard has some issues.
The screen it self looks like this:
-
In my job I design column drivers for Liquid Crystal Displays so..........I am not talking out my butt. You can try pressing on the LCD with your finger in the general region of that column but that is a long shot.

Clint is spot on. Sadly, it is the LCD that has failed.

See my experience here: Black screen...
I wasn't able to get my system to work, however it doesn't mean that it will not work for you. I may have a damaged motherbaord video slot, or I may have damaged the 260m (see the thread for details).
Are you in the US? If so I might consider letting you try this 260m in your machine if you like. It would confirm what my problem reallyl is.
Joe -
The screen was dim, so was thinking to swap it at some point anyway. Anyone has any recommendations for a bright screen that would fit this beast ? From other forum post I know that the best panels are LG-Phillips, I would prefer an LED backlight one, but the inverter and all other hardware permits that ...
-
Sorry to hear of the difficulties you've had. You were brave to take this on without any guarantees. Your offer to loan me your 260M card for confidence testing is a very generous gesture, but unfortunately, I'm in the UK and in any event, having read through the "black screen" thread, my M571RU-U appears to be in a similar state to yours so I doubt I'd fare any differently?
My initial indication of a problem was that upon boot, the LCD panel illuminated but displayed static banding in "pastel shades" but with no evidence of information from underlying screens; either text from BIOS or anything Windows might be displaying. The LEDs flickered as and when you'd expect them to and it was evident that Windows was loading by virtue the Windows startup tune was audible. Connecting an external monitor produced no output at anytime no matter how many times Fn+F7 was keyed. That convinced me the GPU was at fault and not the LCD. I took the card from it's copper casing and baked it for 9 mins at 385F etc. When re-installed, I was dismayed to see a totally black screen, although the LEDs still flickered and it was evidently still booting, albeit unseen. I baked the GPU a second time, but now, it has same prob as yours... black screen, won't boot and no HD activity evident etc. Powering up laptop with the GPU removed restores the boot sequence and HD activity ensues, until the POST produces beeps, presumably complaining about the absence of video circuitry?
My concern now, is that; in baking the card to the point that the situation worsened, i.e. laptop no longer boots with the GPU installed, the GPU may be damaged to the extent that it has subsequently damaged circuitry on the mainboard? If so, it's possible that this mainboard damage in turn, may result in damage occurring to any good GPU attached to it!?
I guess the only sure way to establish that your 260M is still good is to try it in a laptop designed to take this card by default?
With my M571RU-U currently no more than an expensive "paperweight" the best chance I have of restoring it to "something" of use, (and afterall, the 8800M GTX isn't exactly a bad performer), is to attempt to obtain a replacement 8800M GTX, and keep my fingers crossed that it was "only" the GPU at fault in the first place, and hope that I have not unwittingly, damaged something else trying to make it work!
If I get away with that, I'll invest in a "cool pad" to sit the laptop on thereafter, in the hope that it extends the GPU's life expectancy.
As an act of goodwill by NV, in view of the high susceptibility to failure of these cards, the least they could do is make replacements much more affordable.
I wish you luck resurrecting your laptop, and hope that your $400 purchase will not prove to be in vain? -
Has the front page been updated recently? just im very close to beating the number one on vista.
T9500
4GB
8800m

will post screenies in a bit, unless the front page is out of date and the actual number 1 is like 15k lol
Can you run quad core processors in these at all? and I dont know how upto date the front page is so is there a bios flash to run 800mhz ram? -
Front page is out of date, my 3DM06 score is in my sig.
No quad support in these unfortunately, we max out at the X9000.
No 800MHz RAM support either, it downclocks to 667MHz -
I hope this is an acceptable place to ask this...
I'm looking at a friend's very gently used (read - never gamed on) 5793 with the following specs and wondering what would be a fair price?
SPECS
17" Screen Glossy WUXGA (1920x1200)
Intel Core2Duo T9300 2.5ghz (45nm "penryn")
4gigs DDR2 RAM
500gig 7200rpm HD
nVidia 8800M GTX 512MB
Panasonic UJ-220 Bluray Writer
Intel Wireless 4965N
Built in Webcam and Fingerprint Reader
7-in-1 Card Reader
Bluetooth
Original Purchase Price = $3100
Bear in mind that I don't need bleeding edge capabilities for anything that I want to use it for (the most intense gaming that I do is on the order of COD4 which runs fine on my 2092) so all I'm looking for is something that can push 3D models around for running AutoCAD and Solidworks.
Thanks in advance.

I would say a bout 900-1000 dollars these have devalued alot since they came is still out.It is still a good machine plenty for your needs.

What's the best program for overclocking a T700 or T7800 cpu on this machine? Just so that the overclock kicks in when an application is launched (like a game)...
Same with the 8800M GTX. -
For the cpu u can try setfbs tool its a bit tricky but i got my 3d mark 06 to 11600 + with no oc on the gpu.
As for the 8800m gtx i use nvidia system tools i can push it to 575-900-1500 with out any issues. Then there is the bios flash but i cant get that to work -

My video card is rapidly dying on my 25 month old Sager branded M570RU-U laptop with the 8800GTX card and Vista 64-bit.
What is the current recommended video card replacement (I'm looking to match at least the performance I've had while maximizing stability and minimizing noise)?
Is there a suggested source (I'm in the US)?
I saw posts mentioning video card upgrades to 260 or 280 - but didn't see positive results and things might have changed. The pics at Clevo 571tu Upgrade Guide and theriko's user manuals give me confidence this is straight forward but would appreciate any advice about which card to get and any experience others have had.
Thanks in advance
PS - If the new card could support dual monitors without sounding like a jet engine then that would make me very happy. I tried dual monitors before with this laptop but it would quickly overheat and crash. -
"videocard that will work for the Clevo M570RU (aka. Sager NP5793):
- pretty much any MXM II, III, IV (2.x) modules
- Nvidia Go 7950 GTX
- Nvidia 8700M GT
- Nvidia Quadro 1600M
- Nvidia 8800M GTX ~ Nvidia 9800M GT
- Nvidia 9800M GTS
possibles, since they are of the same MXM (2.x) modules, but not officially supported by the Clevo BIOS so they might not get fully recognized:
- Nvidia Quadro 2700M
- Nvidia 9800M GTX
- Nvidia GTS 160M (2.1)
- Nvidia GTX 260M (2.1)
- Nvidia GTX 280M (2.1)"
9800M GT is just a re-branded 8800 but is probably the most stable on your system. You could ask to see if the manufacturer still has any in stock or you could get one from ebay for $600.00. Link below:

Hello all, I'm new to the forum with a question. I have a np5793 with the uj220s blue-ray drive and I've hit a wall trying to get blu-rays to play. I'm running powerdvd10 trial version and windows xp pro.
I can watch some older blu-rays like rambo and planet earth series, but I just bought Avatar and it will not play, neither will watchmen. I rarely use the player so this is the first issue I've had. I had powerdvd8 (which came with the machine), but downloaded powerdvd 10 just to check if it was the drive or the player software.
I'm stuck, and would really appreciate any help. I've read on some SONY forums that the firmware needed to upgraded but I called Sager tech support today and they said they unfortunately could not do anything for me. They did direct me to this site though.
I also read that heat may be an issue, but since day 1 I have always used the notebook with a Zalman cooler running full blast. -
I think you may get more answers at Blu-ray.com in the Blu-ray PCs, Laptops, Drives, Media and Software forum here:
Blu-ray PCs, Laptops, Drives, Media and Software - Blu-ray Forum
Sorry I couldn't be of more help. -
Where do u think our current model is now,do you think in terms of performance it is "shudder a mid range laptop, with no gpu upgrade.I am almost at my 2.5 year mark now and expecting a gpu fail as with so many on these forums.
-
I think it's still high end. Ok, maybe not the current lineup 285M, 5870 but still pretty solid. A bit below the 260m maybe. I got mine around february 08, so about the same time as yours, and haven't had any problems at all. I think why mine is still going strong is I've only changed the drivers once after updating the bios last year, and I don't game on it as frequently as I used to. Maybe once a week for about 3 hours or so . I also use a zalman cooler which keep the temps pretty low. I think if you look after them, blow some air through the fans occasionally without opening up the back it should last a good while.
-
Same here. Have it from March 2008 and no problem at all. Great Laptop!
-
Wow... have the machine from 2008 and still good to go!
Anyone knows where to download drivers for Win7 or supposedly the old drivers work well with win7? Goin to install and try Win7 (it's late, I know...) -
hi guys i am thinking of getting a ssd drive can we just pop these in or do we need a special bracket...?
-
If you're replacing you're main system drive, it just slots right in. make sure to update your bios and put it into AHCI (vista/7) mode.

Motherboard failure
I bought a Metabox M57RU just under 2 years ago, spec: Intel® Core 2 Duo Penryn T9300 (2.5 GHz, 6MB L2 Cache, 800Mhz FSB),
Nvidia® 8800M GTX 512MB.
Motherboard has failed, out of warranty of course.
I live in Brisbane. Does anyone know the Clevo/Sager part number for the motherboard & where I can get one? I believe the US would be a lt cheaper than AUS.
Thanks in Advance -
sorry to hear of your loss there seems to be an increasing number of these machines failing at the 2 year point.I think you should sell the cpu and gpu ram etc.. and get another machine,or buy a bare bones and transpant the parts.
Do u guys know where i can get windows xp 64 drivers for this laptop? -
Hi Guys,
I've just started using a M57RU in a new job and the motherboard battery has gone. Any pointers as to how I go about replacing it?
Cheers,

Hi,
Issues with installed memory (4GB) vs accessible memory (2.5GB) !!!!
In summary, 4GB installed and accessible from the BIOS. Win XP can only see 2.5GB. I know all about 32-bit vs 64-bit and memory access so let's not go there.
System properties shows:
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU
T7700 @ 2.4GHz
1.17GHz, 2.5 GB of RAM
PAE
There should be ~3.5GB to Windows. I'm sure before BIOS updates (and possibly system updates) I used to have ~3.5GB.
Anyone with any thoughts on the matter ??
I have a clevo M570RU basic specs:
CPU T7700
Memory 2 x 2GB
Graphics nVIDIA 8800M GTX
Disk 250GB (WDC 5400 RPM)
OS Windows XP Pro,32-bit, SP3
3dmark06 9249 (default settings and stock drivers)
I have recently the updated various BIOS to:
KBD/EC 1.00.11sa
BIOS 1.00.12
Nvidia 62.92.23.14 LATEST I COULD FIND :-(((
Now the issue I seem to have is available / accessible RAM, CPU-Z at end of post.
o On booting the BIOS reports 4096 MB and will perform a memory test on it all.
o CPU-Z reports it as 4GB installed.
o 3dmark06 seems to report 4GB installed but only 2.48GB accessible
o MemTest86 reports 4096MB (if I read the screen properly)
CPU-Z reports:

I just bought a barebones M570RU-U with the 8800 GTX, 1920x1200. It appears to be loaded. Just opened the box a few hours ago.
I plan on the T9500 CPU,
2x2Gb G Skill,
WD Black 320 Gb,
and Win 7 Pro.
How much is it worth?
I don't really need it, I just built a tower a few months ago with i7-860, ATI 4890, etc. and I got an old but suitable Dell lappy with 1600x1200, but Radeon 9000 (64 Mb) GPU.
Can't decide to keep or sell.
Suggestions and/or opinions very welcome.
I d/l the service manual, but may ask for some help on installation.
Thanks in advance. -
X7900 vs. T9500?
They seem to be about the same price right now; the x7900 slightly more expensive. depending if I go to eBay (new only).
Mobile Intel® PM965 Express Chipset

The T9500 is 2.6 GHz and 6M cache
The x7900 is 2.8 GHz and 4M cache -
Hi guys got a strange issue on my laptop the screen changes it hue from blueish to yellowish when veiwing web pages or playing games. There is no performance loss nore overheating.I have tried other drivers.......could it be the screen or is it the 8800m gtx "shudder"Plz help!!

Guys - quick question if I may.
I have an M570RU and the DVD writer has gone caput!
The model of the writer is SN-S082H/BEBN
Provided I can ascertain whether I have IDE or SATA (I think it's IDE) can I buy any slimline DVD writer to replace it? Sony / Samsung etc or do I need to replace it one for one?
Many thanks in advance.
Best wishes
Harry -
The M570RU is IDE as you thought (last model to be IDE), any standard slimline 12.7mm IDE drive will fit fine.
-
Thank you very much.
May I ask if you can suggest one, as a CLEVO expert?!
I am looking at the SONY AD-7590A...
Best wishes
Harry -
Looks good. The bezel on any 3rd party drive will not fit your laptop chassis, but that is easily removable and replaceable with the bezel from your original drive

theriko:
Hey fellow KNN owner :S
So, after the second time my 7950gtx died...i'm now left with baking...which actually worked for now..we'll see how well for how long..i'm installing far cry2 and borderlands to see if i can make it puke again...
Questions i have for you is this:
1) I want to upgrade my t7200..("He" installed an ES apparently for it's OC'ng...) is it worth it to get the x9000 or the t9500? It seems i cant get a new laptop yet (wifes requirement)...a Harley is on the horizon instead
2) The video card: I've been reading all over the net about the 260/280 gtx's working but having the 30 sec beeping errors...do you know if the m57ru will support the 200 lines or the 3700m card or would u just suggest getting the 8800gtx or 9800gtx instead?
I'm bummed that the person we bought these from has "disappeared" but thankful we have thousands of people interested in bettering the clevo m57XX models
I feel stupid as I was gonna PM you but cant figure it out lol. -
<--noob. sorry guys for posting this. found out how to pm someone...and i'm a computer owner...i think i'll go buy some sidewalk chalk instead...
