Can someone update the info for the NP5793?

I just ordered one and it has a lot of different options from the OP.

    Mine has a 17' "matte finish" WUXGA, a ~Intel® T9300 45nm "Penryn" Core™2 Duo 2.5GHz w/6MB L2 On-die cache - 800MHz FSB, and a 9800 GTS GPU

I've seen a lot about the 8800 GTX version, I'm expecting my gaming to not be as good as the 8800 GTX but by how much?

The 9800M GTS is only very slightly behind the 8800M GTX, so you won't miss much

    Hi People,

I've just bought a Novatech X80r second hand and i'm to think the chassis is the M57ru.

I'm looking to upgrade some parts in the near future, it currently has 2gb of mem, which i want up to 4gb asap, but i've read here it can only register it at 677mhz rather than 800mhz? Which is slightly dissapointing, is there no way round this, what is limiting the memory to 667?

1 other thing would be the CPU. It currently has a T8100 2.1ghz, which is ok, but i'd want a T9600 in it before long, can it take it? and if not what can it take?

Apart from that its got Nvidia Geforce 8800mGTX 512mb, 160GB 7200rpm 2.5" Hitachi Laptop drive, 2GB DDR2 667mhz memory for £660, my 1st laptop, should be here any day now :)

    Thanks for any info supplied.

    correct.

you do not really need anymore than 4GB anyways... I doubt you are working with super hi-resolution (20+ megapixels) pics and textures.

Hi guys thanks, will get it ordered asap.

Is it much of a faff on upgrading mem?

I know my way round a desktop quite well but this is my 1st laptop and i'd like as much info as possible before committing money and risk to doing something i've never done.

    Any guides about?

    Cheers.

No, you can't use the T9600, or any of the newer 'Montevina' processors, so I believe the fastest processors you can upgrade to are the 2.6Ghz T7800 and T9500.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong about either of those two CPUs.

    Hi,

Its been a bit since i asked that and i've had a mail back from Novatech and they reckon it takes the T9600, though the other wouldn't be too bad either :)

Well Im trying to get a list of the most recent drivers and software that is good for our system ( ie setFSB,ntune, etc.) and then update this thread. If anyone else wants to start that would be good.

Nah, the T9600 is 100% incompatible with your notebook, as it's a newer chipset than your machine can fit. I was mistaken on one thing though, as the best CPU you can get is actually the X9000, which is also overclockable.

If you could use the T9600, your machine would already have the P8400 or P7350 at the minimum.

The Novatech X80r = the Sager 5793 = no PM45 chipset = no Montevina processor. Whoever responded to you must've been thinking about the X90r.

    Hi,

Thanks for the reply, this is the lappys spec (i bought it 2nd hand so knowledge is a bit slim)

Clevo M57RU chassis (same as used in the Rock extreme laptops)

17" WUXGA 1920 x 1200 TFT Screen (superb for gaming)

    Intel Core2 Duo T8100 (2.1ghz, 3mb cache, penryn core)

    Intel 965pm Santa Rosa platform

    Nvidia Geforce 8800mGTX 512mb

    160GB 7200rpm 2.5" Hitachi Laptop drive (SATA)

    2GB DDR2 667mhz memory (so-dimm)

    DVD/RW Multi Burner

Azalia High Definition Audio With SRS WOW Surround Sound with 2 x 1.5 Watt & 1 x 2 Watt Sub Woofer

    Vista 32Bit

I'm guessing that bit highlighted is the important part? Not a Montevina platform?

    Shame i guess.

So the X9000is the best i can get? Where would i get such a chip from and do people really OC CPUs in laptops!!?

Yes, having the Santa Rosa platform is the deal breaker.

You're in the UK right? I'm not sure where you can get one there, and the only sellers I've found are here, and on eBay.

Upgrading the memory is very easy, you just remove the back panel, and look where the memory is. It goes only one way , so you just have to take the older memory out and replace it with the new one, run a few cycles of memtest86+ and if that checks out, you`re good to go :)

If you plan on getting the RU/Tu...be advised, the cooling system is noisy, unlike other laptops. It will bother people in a quiet environment..

    Hi,

Again thanks for all the info, i'm enjoying my new purchase, even more so since i've bought a mouse for it (nano VX) since i cannot get used to the Tpad.

One quick question: I'm getting really high FPS in games such as mass effect, 30's average at 1200 with everything turned right up, but it jerks from time to time, any idea why?

    Vista?

I've got two desktop vista machines which don't do it, is this something to do with laptops or is it due to a lower spec laptop compared to my desktops?

Would a memory upgrade help? (i only have 2gb)

Does anyone know how to disable the built in mic?

I have an external mic that I plug in and use, but the built in mic does NOT deactivate. It also does not show up as a device I can disable in the sound options (Vista SP1).

This is very annoying. Is anyone else experiencing this or have a solution?

Yet again got a hold of an M570RU-U with T9300 processor and 9800M GTS. All I can say is that it runs incredibly cool compared to the T7250 and Go7950GTX-equipped M570RU model...

    CPU
    idle: 23-25C
    wPrime load: max 50C
    GPU
    idle: 35C
    RTHDRIBL load: 63C

...but the CPU fan turns on and off constantly. Even when the processor is idle at 24C and I, lets say, open an a mere .mp3 and the processor fan revs up, cools the CPU until its 23C again and turns off. I would imagine the long-term owner of such a DTR would be in deep mental anguish if not for the salvation of Sager`s KBC/EC BIOS :D Too bad I can't install it on the particular specimen :(

Anyway its happily RTHDRIBL-ing away right now, with both CPU cores at a comfortable 37C and cool :)O) air coming out of the CPU exhaust vents.

Also I would like to comment on the glossy WSXGA+ screen. Its contrast is better than the matte screen of the previous tryout but I think its rather dim, even compared to my Dell D630`s 220nit screen. Its an LG Philips screen, Hardware Id "LPL1289". Can anyone tell me its response time?

The two memory slots in the Clevo M57ru ( aka like the Sager 5793 which I have) will support a total of two 4096x2 So-Dimm chips.

I recently upgraded from 4GB to 8GB for $299 as the programs I use are memory intensive and most likely I will upgrade to the X9000 CPU in the next few months as while the T9300 is good, it is getting pushed since I run several programs at once.

The 5793 is such a good notebook for my needs that I expect it will be at least 2-3 years before I need to upgrade to a new model.

Hmm, do you know what the response time of the matte 1680x1050 screen is?

My current screen is a 1680x1050 matte, and it lags like hell. I get a headache from playing CSS due to the ghosting problems. The response-time seems like its 50ms lol...

Holy heck your laptop is cool. Do you keep it in the fridge or what? :D

    One question:

If I wan't to get a new processor for my np5793, like t9300, t9500 or x9000, does Sager sell them? (or at least one of their resellers?).

It would be great if they sold them because I need international shipping and in my country there aren't any places to buy processors for notebooks (I live in Mexico).

Thanks! and sorry for my bad english :p

If you get ghosting , it might be 25ms, but for over a while now, most LCDs have been at 16ms response time, at most.

Honestly, I think the screen is the most important part in the laptop, since its the one with the most interraction.

You can get a better LCD in case you`re not satisfied, PM Zfactor , he's the resident LCD expert around here :)

Cookie, I ran the beast at normal room temperature, ~20c or so. Don't know exactly. Do keep in mind that its the M570RU-U model, which has the larger CPU heatsink/heatpipe and bigger exhaust port. It spewed out a mildly warm breeze at best.
Heck, I would have wanted the T9300 in my Dell D630 but the economic situation no longer permits it :(

As for the matte 1680x1050, when I used it at a LAN, it was certainly more laggy than the glossy one. With the latter, there was only a hint of ghosting was when I played Quake3.

yeah i have to get a new screen soon as well, as my lid came bent when i ordered it, but because it was my only computer available to me, and I take 18hours a semester, i couldnt afford to lose it to get it fixed. My reseller wouldnt send me a new lid, so now the top half of my screen is incrediably dark, while the bottom half is washed out too bright. ANyone know where i can get a GOOD screen and possible a lid?

Thanks for the advice people, I'm astonished tbh, 1st laptop though, so not sure what temps things go at.

Wow...unbelievable the GPU can run that hot and still work.

The cpu is the same, they are rated up to 105C (that's internal junction temp tho, so worry if it goes over 95)
