Vista never crashed on me. But I hated how it worked so I dual booted and eventually sticked with Xp.
I`ll be passing to Vista once again in a few months when SP1 will have proven it`s worth it..
-
I've never had vista crash on me, but the driving signing is -really- annoying sometimes. I use vmware but they don't use signed drivers so every time I want to boot it up I have to f8 on startup and hit 'don't check signed drivers'. It got to be to the point where I use another boot manager someone came up with called readydrive to automatically select it for me heh.
There used to be a way to change it to never check, but Microsoft patched that out. Seems they are intent on this to keep vista more 'secure'. I can lock my notebook in a padded room with no network and it would be 'secure', but how useful is that?
Otherwise, except for the longer boot and shutdown times (even with tweaks it takes longer than xp, especially to get the prefetch all filled up at boot), I do like vista. Perhaps in June when XP is no longer supported more companies will start to make decent drivers for stuff hehe. -

sterben, XP Pro sill be supported until at least 2014 as recently announced by Microsoft. It is just coming off of the shelves as of June 30th, although we plan to carry it for several more months after that.
-
Either way, I see it as a push by Microsoft to get more people/companies to use and support vista, and as such I hope that this will lead to better driver support across the board, which surely can't be a bad thing. Well, ok, maybe it is for the companies that have to produce them but not us users -
Actually, it's a little worse than that, given the announced target date of 2010 for the release of Windows 7 (whether what's released is just another "version" of _Vista, as some contend, or the long-promised El Dorado of a brand-new OS), and the fact that Microsoft's standard lifecycle policy applies to _Vista (but not to WinXP Home as a result of the delayed release of _Vista).
Under Microsoft's lifecycle support policy, the _Vista home editions will no longer receive security support from Microsoft as of 04/10/2012 whereas both WinXP Pro and WinXP Home will continue to receive extended support (which is basically security support) until 04/08/2014. It should be noted, in the interests of full disclosure, that the business version of _Vista will receive extended support until 04/11/2017.
Putting that all together suggests that there will really not be a lot of incentive to provide really robust driver support for _Vista, other than drivers required for business applications. Basically, for non-business purposes, given that there is a strong sentiment that WinXP is still preferable to _Vista, especially for gaming , and the fact that WinXP will still be getting security updates for two years after _Vista Home becomes worm food (or is that virus food?), by which time, factoring in what will be the inevitable delays in the release of Windows 7 (probably 2012; the same year in which _Vista Home goes defunct - that will probably not cause MS to extend _Vista Home's support since everyone who doesn't want to go to Win7 can instead continue to rely on WinXP for two more years), there appears to be much more incentive to focus on business support and WinXP support, and to keep non-business support for _Vista Home as the ugly step-child to WinXP. Of course, since, according to Gophn, SP3 for WinXP basically gives WinXP the same kernel as _Vista, support for _Vista Home until 2012 should be easy to piggy-back off of the direct support provided for WinXP.
I'm sure that driver developers will be feeling a lot of heat from MS (and from the national brand OEMs who've committed to _Vista-only platforms) to put more emphasis on supporting drivers in _Vista Home; however, I also envision those same driver developers engaging in a lot of foot dragging. -

Who was the user who modded their 5793 with Sbay?
-
It was kaltmond I believe...
-
OK Thanks, now he had an HDD in the Sbay right? A battery wont work right?
-
Im considering getting the m57, but one thing I would like to know is if this thing can support any of the mobile quad cores?
-
The m57tu, which will come out in June/July, will support mobile quad core. You could always get an m57ru now and upgrade later, but that will be very costly because it will require a mobo upgrade. I suggest waiting for the m57tu to come out, it will support the montevina mobile QC, and also has esata and HDMI
-
thanks for the quick reply. When is it out?
-
Well, Montevina is scheduled to release in June, So you should see the m570tu over the summer
-
shoot i would need it by the first week of june, so this probably isnt gonna happen
-
That probably wont, But I would consider contacting them to make sure.
-
Ok thanks, I'll see what xotic and powernotebook have to say
-
It might happen with the first batch, but hardly a reality call.
Mid-June sounds optimistic also... -
Actually one option would be to buy this notebook in sweden since that is where I will be headed for work this june. Do you know if this notebook is sold by any european vendors and if it will be available at the same time over there?

Also try PC Microworks. I ordered my Laptop in Late December, when their were rumors about the m15x. After a week or so, it came out, and I was thinking about getting returning it for the m15x, for I thought maybe it is too large to be taken around the CAmpus when I go to college. However, I choose to keep it. When the m860tu rumors came out a couple of months ago, I phoned them up and asked them If they were going to have it. I then told them my position, and they said that when they have the m860tu up for sale, they will offer me 70-85% credit on my nb towards the m860tu if I return it, although this is wayy past the returning window. I would call them and explaing to them your situation and see if you can cut a deal through them.
-
Maybe Novatech and rockdirect will be offering them. I`m not totally sure though. Check them out.
-
My M57ru is on its way back for the 3rd time due to fan failier. It sounds very much like a bearing.
Anyone else needed their fan replaced? According to Novatech they have never had a preblem with them let alone 3 in a row. -
No. It`s the first time I ever heard about it. I`m sorry to hear that. The fans could use a replacement , I always said, but I never meant it in the stricto-sense way
-
My fan is doing the same thing...constant ticking noise...pretty sure it's the bearing. I did a full clean (took the fan unit out of the notebook) and it didnt help, so my supplier is sending me a new fan (damned if I'm sending the nb back to the us for a replacement fan when I can do it myself...)
-
yea,but not everyone is confident they can open up the laptop and replace it.
I know somebody with a gaming computer who NEVER opens it,he pays me to clean it for him -
-
Yeah, I saw the news. Bummer.

What is a good audio output thingamajig for the m57ru?
-
What do you mean? audio setting, speaker or what?
-
My Jacks died (even my mike one). Well, now in my mike one, only one earphone of the earphones could be heard. Weird.
Those things for extra audio jacks, what are they called? -
you just need a sound card to add into the express slot???
i believe i have a source for replacement jacks of better quality they are sending me a few samples to see if they will work. not sure if you can solder or not.. ill keep everyone posted -
-
-Get a cheap USB sound card from creative, Live! 24bit , better sound than onboard ... or
-Get an express card sound card ,that`s about 100$ or more...but the best sound yet -
- or bluetooth earphone
-
I really doubt they could even match a USB or express card sound.
I`ve had the onboard sound for little over a month and when I switched to the Creative card, I was blown away -
i have Xmod tho.
-
Which is what exactly?
-
some said it is a USB soundcard, others said it is an amp. I don't know nor care as long as it works. -
Still much too expensive, the Express Card offers a 7.1 possibility for about the same price.
-
I got it off amazon for $40. but yea definitely go for express card.
-
Ill look into the Express Card....... -
I swear, since so many of us have this problem , Sager REALLY NEED to look into it,it`s getting ridiculous already
-
I hope its fixed with the m57tu......
-
Did anyone get an invisible shield for their m57ru?
-
I rather get a skin for my 5793
-
All the m57ru owneres are going to be getting userbars soon!!!!
-
Ok
AOE2 shuts down in my computer. Dont know why....
Furthermore, I opened Task mamanger, and of my 4093MB of mem, 3141 is cached, 1.18GB is being used(dont know why, the only thing i have runnig now is ff, and that is just 2 tabs), and 11 mb free. WTH?? -
My NP5793 will be here tomorrow..I'm excited. UPS called and said to expect the delivery sometime between 8AM and 7PM.
...gee thanks. -.- -
