Pmanuk, can you post your nv_disp.inf file you are using with the 186.03 drivers? Thanks.

Edit: Also does the driver come with the system or did you download it from lv2go?

So this laptop supports drivers directly from the nvidia site? If so that's a big plus to me, as most of the OEMs seem to be horrid at getting video updates out there.

Not always, it depends on what NVidia puts in the INF file.

guys whats the sound on this beast like ? i'm talking about speakers, not the fans.

also have you tried the silent function? i.e integrated graphics for surfing etc? does it go silent ?

    thanks

Personally this is the only thing I don't like about this laptop. I find the volume very low when watching movies so I bought a pair of Logitech V20s, which sound pretty darn good.

Not sure about the integrated graphics. I don't think that is available.

    thanks for the reply daz.

i don't like the sound of that at all ( pardon the pun)

volume - i can live with as i can always use headphones if watching a movie, playing a game - or like you buy speakers.

but no integrated graphics  - why have a button for something that doesn't work? why use that chipset at all if not for the powersaving features of it.

perhaps its just in need of a bios update ?

anyone else got this to work ?

Our system doesnt have intergrated gfx so no option there

the speakers on mine are loud enough for anything i would use them for, if i was hooking my laptop up to a 40" TV then i would use a 7.1 set anyway :p

    thanks for the reply.

looking at your gpu idle temps, i suppose you really don't need the 9400m anyway :D

how loud is the fan at load ?

the notebookcheck review makes this machine as hot as lava, with fans as loud as plane engines, and the dimmest screen possible

notebookcheck dont know what they are talking about

I have my sound on 20% and i can hear it crystal over the fans, they really dont make that much noise at all, nothing compared to the M17, dont know about 17x

my temps under load gpu wise are no higher then 74 and idle about mid 40's

I have to agree here with Pman.......this laptop is as quiet as a mouse (its the NZXT cryo LX sat under it thats making all the noise on my system)

and I get the same temps as Pman to (infact COD4 gave me temps in the mid 70's and crysis only reached mid 50's)

one of the only things I would agree with in the review was that it attracts fingerprints....and thats because I love touching it (not in a naughty way!!) but you even get a nice cloth to clean it with!

I promise you, if you get one you will be very very happy!

For watching DVDs while I'm away the speakers are way too quiet. For games they're okay, but I say the quality is average.

    Disagree with those comments..

Brightness is fine and I actually have mine dialed down a bit.

This thing is very quiet give it is sporting two HDDs and SLI.

Have a look at the idle temps of my two laptops for a comparison. The Drives in the ASUS are only 5400 RPM.

why does hwmonitor show hd temps for some and not others ?

thanks for the replies guys, after some major weighing up of all options, I've finally decided on the m980.

i had ordered it a while ago, but after the horrendous early reviews with pre production models, the great reviews of the m17x, and getting messed around regarding the delivery date, i was getting worried and cancelled the order. However i've since came to my senses :)

i've been promised i'll get mine tomorrow or friday :)

i've never oc'd a laptop before, but i hope to wet my feet with this. Any early tips for a newbie ?

    the spec is: qx9300, 280m sli, and 4gb 1333mhz ram. 3x 500gb 7200rpm hdd.

    top tip becareful!

seriously tho, nvidia system tools is the way to go, fsb seems to be locked down to 1200 i have no temp problems or anything go to 1204 and crash so i am convinced there is some software killing me there

most 280s seem stable at 630/1000/1600 or the like then you can gradually get them higher, mine appears to top out around 685/1080/1710 but i think i got some good cards

but run hardware monitor and keep an eye on it, although having said that i dont have any issues with temps

    Good Luck

Let us know how you get on

HWMonitor (or any other software) cannot show data from hard drives that are in a RAID array, as they are accessed as an array, not as individual drives.

In that case, I have no idea. Is it possible that your raid controller is set as a single drive raid0 array? (I know that sounds weird, but I have seen it before...)

Otherwise, what hdd do you have?

If you install the NV storage driver then no temp shows. Use naive MS driver should be ok.
