Hello Pman or any other owner of NP9850.

I have a question, take a look at here:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lGxMFVRa7Cg

Does your touch sensitive volume button react so slow?
I mean at the end of this video is journalist playing with volume, it is SO SLOW and there is some kind of delay. Is it only pre production bug ot FW/SW related bug?

What is your speed adjusting volume ??

    Thank you very much guys

yeah i would say thats about the same as mine

no bug, thats just the way it works

mine has maybe half a second delay, its just the way it works

but tbh its never bothered me in day 2 day use. its abit of a red herring its not as annoying as it appears

Huh, I hadn't even realized those were touch sensitive.

Just tried mine out; under Win7 x64, using the new Win7 hotkey driver, mine is pretty perky, no lag to it. Like Pman said, maybe half a second between contact and change.

It's not really a slider - you can just touch the point you want the volume to jump to, you don't need to slide back and forth to try to get it adjusted properly.

Yeah mines the same way, a little 1/2 sec delay. What I have trouble is going really low like the last 4 -6 bars of lights I can't get lower than that without using the FN keys or windows volume control. And I have average fingers so not a "fat" finger situation...lol Even used my pinky and it just won't go down to those last ones.

i have to admit i knew pretty quick it ws a touch panel :p

i agree getting below the last 5/6 bars is tricky, seems to depend on my laptops mood, i can sometimes get it on the last 3 but thats about it

tbh if i need it that quite i might as well have it on silent lol

unfortunatley since that french website leaked it then its all gone quiet. I have had it confirmed that it is there. Cleveo have clammed up on it though

Last i heard about 4-6 weeks ago it was being beta tested. (which is what the french site got hold of) Since then all gone quiet

As soon as i read/hear any more i will let you know

Have you used a Comanche with the i7 or seen one set up and running ?

Out of the Comanche and Comanche Sli which would you say is the better machine, Q9300 v i7 ?

I just need to know how quiet both machines run as i`m very close to parting with my money, are the fans quiet on the Comanche Sli and do they only come on when required via a temp sensor or are they running all the time ?

How quiet are both machines in general compared to each other ?

The I7 machine is undoubtedly louder. For gaming its got to be SLI that simple really. The benefit of having the second GPU far far out weighs the extra gaming performane the I7 gives.

There is no confirmed date for the Commanche SLI to get an I7 although the educated guess is late Q1/early Q2 announcement with availability around end Q2/Q3

They would probabley release it with the 300 series cards. Only when this comes along would it be worth it

If they released an I7 mod with the 280 series card then it would be abit of a false hope as it simply wouldnt be any better at gaming. The bottle of the system is still the cards. The Qx9300 is perfectly strong enough to out power any game out there.

For gaming there is no comparison. IF you intend on doing high level cpu intensive work the I7 will beat the Qx9300 hands down.

The fans have 3 ( i have noticed ) settings, low medium high. Mine sit on medium most of the time and having sound on 21% drowns it out. Which i think most know is quite quiet.

Bottom line is if you want a laptop before July time next year get the Commanche SLI for gaming.

If you are in no rush the I7 with 300 cards should be along mid next year from our educated guess work

I don't use it either but when I went to install it I actually went to the protector suites site and downloaded the package. I did setup a fingerprint and it wasn't an issue. I don't remember thou about a license key or not.
Also it was way faster for me to type my password than run my finger across the scanner several times so for me it's a waste and I quickly uninstalled it.

If you are using protector suite 2009, then you will have to buy it to continue using it (a measly $19.99). Otherwise, you can unistall 2009 and reinstall 5.8, which is available from clevos download site.

Does anyone find that the keyboard being offset to the right is slightly awkward or do you find it ok to use ?

Are their any known issues i should know about with the M980NU - Comanche Sli ?

I`m close to parting with my money for one, i just want to make sure ive got piece of mind before i do if you know what i mean, i actually rang Kobalt but it was on answerphone due to them being away for a conference i think it said.

No known issues that i am aware of, Sager had an "issue" which prevented them releasing a while back. But tbh they never provided any proof it was a fault and subsequently released the machine as the NP9850.

As for the keyboard tbh it doesnt affect me at all, Until you mentioned it i had actually forgotten it was ofset lol

For the cash in the Uk it cant be beaten and Kobalt are a great reseller

Hey folks, i love the performance of this beast. However i find it quite noisy when idle (even in silent mode). The fans slow down but i can still clearly hear the fans from 10 meters away. Am I being whiney or is this not how its supposed to be? My GPUs are around 43 degrees celcius on idle, which seems normal compared to your screenies. Is there any way to get the fans to be quieter (perhaps getting better thermal paste, software to control the fans, etc) while just doing normal tasks (browsing, office work, etc)?

    Thnx!

Welcome to the NBR forums. :)

The CPU temp might be fluctuating... which would cause the CPU fan to spin up.

If you have programs running in the background of your computer while leaving it alone, then that can cause the CPU load and temp to rise to a warm temp that would initiate the fan to spin up (even if its in Silent Mode).

If you used a notebook cooler to keep the temps down even more, then the fans might not need to kick in.

So how do you find the noise in general on a M980NU / Comanche Sli when doing basic web browsing and things like that, would you say that the fan noise is not noticeable ? How would you say it compares to an M1730, do the fans work on a type of sensor where they don`t run constantly and only come on when required ?

I`m ready to part with around £2700 for a new laptop, obviously its something i want to try and get right and to try and get a laptop where the noise isn`t over excessive as i will be using it in a quiet room.

One other quick thing, with the keyboard being offset to the right do you notice this and would you say it feels awkward or is it fine ?

My temps are similar maybe slightly lower and yes I can hear the fans. Is it annoying sometimes but it becomes background noise so the only time I really notice it is when I listen for it (I know that sounds stupid). I have never heard the fans stop as they are always spinning just low / silent speed.
The CPU fan jumps on and off like Gophn stated depending on what I'm doing. The GPU fans will go up in speed when I start playing a game but then normally the sound from the game drowns out the fans or I have a headset on.
There are sensors and I'm guessing those temps could be adjusted via modded BIOS update not that I'm gonna try doing that.
I did apply my own thermal paste (MX-2) to all three, CPU and the 2 GPUs).

Since the touchpad is centered directly under the alpha keyboard it is in its natural location.

You wouldn't want the touchpad to be in the middle of the palmrest when you have a numeric keypad on the right because that would really be awkward.

Whats the sound levels like, do you hear much fan noise ? How quiet are the fans at idle or for basic web browsing, are they on all the time or do they only come on now and then when required ?

You can hear them while you're browsing, but they're not loud by any means . Don't forget this is a desktop replacement so you need those fans for cooling.

    I love this laptop.

    Hi The Stig,
The fan noise is there at switch on.When browsing and idel fan noise is noticeable. Its so low and its tone is such that it DEFINITELY not annoying.
I hav emy laptop going in the lounge with no tv sound and no Laptop audio.
All i hear while browsing is low rushing noise.I had my doubts about noise to but they were unfounded.I run Flightsim and my old laptop fan would crankup and be more noticeable than this.So dont worry about the niose. It isnt like a Boeing engine.Full bore the noise is quite noticeable but as yet my normal running hasnt bought the fan up to full speed.Hope this helps.

people have to realise expecting a machine to have these specs and be quiet isnt feasible it just wont happen.

However the m980nu does a good job of minimising the noise and is on the quiet side of desktop replacements

If that's the case, then it shouldn't affect the M980nu at all, which has a MCP79 chipset. For that matter, if the problem is only with the P55 chipset and not the PM55, it'll only affect desktop rigs...

    Hi All,
Just getting to grips with my one, have a couple of questions.
When using 3dmark Vantage for benchmarking do people
listed values done with Physx on or off. This makes a big diff on my system.
So to know if my unit is performing correctly one needs to know this.
I think ive attached my marks with and without physx on.Im using a T9700 processor.
    I would apreciate your comments.
    Thanks
    Les
    P.S using 186.81 drivers
    Marks are P11945 P8432(phsx off)

That sounds about right mate. Your CPU score gets a massive boost with Physx on which affects everything. Your score looks about right to me, my system hits just over 12k with Physx on and we have similar processors.

Its GPU subscore we usually compare :)

Can you tell me if occt works correctly on GPU:Memtest when in SLI
mode.My one reports 100s of errors.

    Hello there.

    I finally purchased M98NU!!

    I am running W7 pro 64-bit.
I downloaded drivers for W7 from eurocom website. Finger print reader did not work (it says need different windows built or somethink like that). Can anyone advice me where to get them? I also cannot make my touch sensitive buttons working. Even when I try any FN + key I dont see picture in upper left corner (switching WIFI/BT on/off, adjusting volume etc.) I used to see that picture on M860TU when using FN + keys.

Please help me proud owners :-((

I would suggest going ahead and installing all Windows 7 drivers available on Sager's site - especially the chipset. The Fn hotkeys SHOULD be working whether there is any driver installed or not - most of their functions are hard-coded into the system, but if they are not and the hotkey driver did not help, there may be other dependencies that can only be met by installing the rest of the drivers.
