Okay so here's another question. A close friend just received his Clevo M980NU (he bought it barebone from RJTech) and we are wondering if there is any bag/backpack that can fit this 18.4" monster?

Np Moo, if we can help we will :)

I know we are now shipping all 980NUs/Comanche SLIs with black shoulderbags so I would assume all resellers are also doing so or will follow suit. I assume as it was bought barebones they didn't include the bag (?) but you should be able to get the standard Clevo bag for the chassis from them or another reseller.

He did receive a briefcase-type bag that does fit that came with it but it is very thin walls with virtually no padding. And a person would have to be insane to trust the transport safety of the largest and 1 of the most powerful notebooks in the world right now to that! :D

I should've made my question clear which is: are there any quality bags with plenty of padding that can fit this 18.4" laptop? (aka good brands like swiss gear, and the such?)

Probably not since the M980NU probably represents less than 0.01% of the laptop market and so I won't be surprised if no big name bag makers make any of these unless Dell/HP/Alienware/etc. decides to adopt this as the flagship platform to replace the 17" in the near future.

I'll let you know when the NP9850 arrives as I have a Targus TXL617 backpack waiting. I also have a 18" Rosewill notebook sleeve for it so hopefully it will fit in the backpack w/sleeve. Both from Newegg.
Based on the actual inside measurements the laptop should fit but it's tight. I'll do pics too one way or the other. :D
Also some customer reviews say they've fit laptops the size of the M980NU into this backpack. If not I'll be returning it.

    :D

i have been speaking with them over the past few days. At first they said they couldn't find anything wrong with it  .

But after some discussion they found one of the hdd's failed, and have replaced it. As it did with my tests, the raid 0 seemed to mask the HD error, and it was only when raid was removed and each hdd was scanned individually that it was found. :)

However the gpu temperature issues are another matter. The tech i spoke to does not believe the cards can be/are running at 100c because the unit's surface is not hot to touch, and the air being expelled is not hot enough. She thinks it is a software issue tha is giving off false readings, as there was also some problem with a corrupt vista install - which has now been reinstalled. She had not retested the cards after the reinstall, when we spoke so i do not know if it fixed the results. This does not make sense to me however as the temps for the processor were showing normal range temps in the programs i used i.e. hwmonitor, speedfan, gpu-z and occt.

The software they use to stress test is prime95 and burnintest, which although it was not made clear at the time, i'm pretty sure from what was said they seem to show no issues and are running with no errors on the system.

I have asked her to use occt gpu test also as that was what i used to obtain the high temps. I also asked if they would run the tests on a comparable system to compare temps. I was assured that they would and they also reassured me they would not send the system back to me unless they were sure it was fine.

Although the tech was very helpful and listened to my worries, i am still slightly worried that they have not replicate the temps i was getting, and therefore will ship it back claiming the cards are ok, only to have them melt on me a month or 2 down the line, not to mention damage the surrounding components and motherboard in the process :(

I will hopefully get some good news tomorrow :)

Panda - Sounds like some good news that they replicated the bad hdd and that is fixed along with the OS issue. All you can do now is hope they will follow through on the GPU issue.

Everyone elsse with a m980 not had a problem with incompatible software...

i was very happy when she said they found the problem hdd - no more annoying clicking/knocking/system beeps

i didn't even know there was a os issue, i did not notice any problems at all  but glad they fixed it though :)

Just the gpu thing left ........ :)

The tech said the burnintest stresses the gpu's to the max ( i have no experience with the program, but after reading about it it appears to be a well regarded and intense tester), but i did request she try OCCT gpu, on both my system and another system with 2 280m's to compare the results.

I have not read about anyone else having software issues with occt/hwmonitor/gpu-z/or speed fan, but it is possible i suppose. Especially as the odds of 2 dodgy gpu's at the one time must be very high. It would seem more likely that it was a software issue. But i can only wait and see with high hopes and baited breath. :)

here's hoping i get good news.

Been playing Batman: Arkham Asylum at full rez, physix on, graphics at the highest levels, and 4xAA. Averages 35 FPS. If I had newer drivers I'd likely do even better. Looks amazing.

Yes I have and here are the picks. It fits snug but that's with the sleeve on it too. Now there's like two or three other compartments for other stuff. Plenty of room. Of course gonna be heavy lugging it around.
8595aa pic shows it in the rosewill sleeve snug as a bug in the backpack and tucked in.
8596aa pic (sorry little blurry) show laptop in sleeve and in bag opened a bit. No issues at all with sleeve fits fine without stretching.
8597aa pic shows laptop in backpack about zipped up.

I like the backpack and I'm sure my nephew will enjoy lugging it around when I turn the thing over to him.

Just wanted to say it has arrived!!! :D
Received the Sager NP9850 on Thursday afternoon and been loading and messing with it when I've had time in the last 30 hrs. ;)
First thing I did other than drool :p was to swap out CPU for QX9300 and HDD for SSD. Then started loading.
Just got done with Vantage and scores are fine but seem a little low to other M980NU owners but that could be due to Win7 or the drivers I'm using, not sure. Everything has been run at stock no OC yet. Also ran OCCT CPU / GPU for heat and some benchies and will post as soon as I can but busy weekend so I'll get to posting and running more benchies sometime soon.

Have not used on Cryo laptop cooler yet.
Ambient room temp was 25c/77F so fairly warm IMO.

OCCT CPU test - Avg Cores after 3 hrs was 70c. Highest was 73c. Starting CPU temps were 35c. GPU temps never went higher than 45c.
Ran GPU test soon after so didn't let laptop cool down much at all.
OCCT GPU test - Avg 84c after 20 mins. CPU ended at avg 39c between the 4 cores. Highest GPU temp was 88c. Starting GPU temps were 45c and CPU temp was 52c.

Last but not least want to say thanks to Donald and PowerNotebooks for putting up with my emails, phone calls, etc. while we waited for Sager to release it. :)

    :)

    got the beast back

novatech replaced 2 harddrives, and both gtx 280m's.

i ran occt straight away and there is a vast improvement with the new cards.

the old ones reached 102c after 15mins on lower resoultion. These ones reached 93c and 91c after 1 hour @ 1920x1080, with 0 errors

not 72c like pman, but they took 30mins to get to that temp then very slowly rised over time to the 93c and 91c

the hd clicking is still there though, not as often but definately there. :(

maybe its a powersaving thing or something.

to anyone with 3x500gb 7200rpm hdd's and no clicking - what is your setup like ? raid ? partitions etc

i'm delighted though, as the gpu's were worring me no end.

also novatech replaced the gpu's to be on the safe side, although they didn't find any errors with the first 2 cards. Talk about good customer service :)

I got a question for you guys with the M980NU, does anyone have 8GB RAM with it? And if so does the chipset really limit your RAM amount to 6.8GB? Because if it does limit it then I'd be forced to get the alienware should I ever need to buy a gaming beastie, and I rather like Sagers now XD

Its the same exact screen the Asus W90 used and is Single lamp . Unless Samsung produced a Dual lamp version of the same panel which is possible i suppose but unlikely . From the pics though it still looks pretty nice :).
