Some larger companies don't supply OEM Windows disks, they just supply a recovery disk. I would assume Mesh do the same thing but if they didn't give you a recovery disk at the minimum I'm sure they will send you one out if you ask them.

It's good enough to make most people happy though. It's the same as the overclocking options on the M570TU: 0.5x and 1.5x step up in multiplier, except they added 1x in the M980NU.

I doubt it. Native FSB overclocking would be a first for Clevo if they did that.

please iemie, before posting such things, could you please ask the original poster of these pictures if he allows you to use them ? at least, you should have tell everyone where you get this information from (P4G, a french forum). as I am the one who received this bios, I wanted things to be said...

please moderators, could you please tell me how to post a link or something to the source without seeing it deleted directly ? thanks in advance :)

and for things to be complete (I guess some of you don't understand french), Clevo is not really in a mood to release this bios. it's from a french reseller who works with Clevo. he asked for that kind of bios, and Clevo released one for him. it may become available to other resellers, but not directly from Clevo and for end-users.

by the way, direct access to Clevo bios page now required a login/password. too bad : system bios 1.00.05 has just been released for M980NU...

pman - is this the bios you were talking about or is that a different one? any updates?

no chance as this is a beta release I obtain from a french partner, and I'm not supposed to post it anywhere (here or in my forum). this is just a "proof of concept" to give some hope to M980NU owners. ask your reseller if you want such a bios. as I said, Clevo is not in a mood to publish it right now. it seems that it will be available only from your reseller if he asked for it.

Good to see the bios is on its way, although i have a horrible feeling if it is left to the resellers we wont see it soon

Going to be whom ever releases it will be a hero for the people

I can see too many resellers being too scared to release it if we have to get it through them

Pman, the resellers have no control over the BIOS...since the BIOS is copyrighted, and only Clevo has the license to modify the BIOS any modifications will come from Clevo.

Then, Sager will need to test and approve any BIOS modifications before they will use it in any of their laptops.

im not talking about them modding it, just releasing one that clevo has made (the one from earlier) to the public

as that gent has said that it will be up to resellers to release to public seeing as Clevo's bios section of thier site is now down

Clevo has not released any BIOS beyond 1.00.05, therefore no OEM or reseller has any ability to use anything other than what Clevo has released, unless by copyright violation...notwithstanding what the other gent may have said, and notwithstanding how you may want to interpret what someone else may have said.

    Talking about bios...
Paladin, how can one get access to Clevo's Bios, now that they locked out their direct links? Do you have any idea/sugestion?
    Cheers

You should write your vendor with your BIOS request, telling them your serial number and current BIOS. If there has been a newer BIOS released your vendor should email it to you.

Why not Clevo make a update list like before but without direct download, so we know when we should ask for a BIOS from vendor.......

Pman, milcs, this changes nothing. As Paladin said just ask your vendor (us in this case) and we'll always send out the latest to you.

New BIOS releases are the same as desktop motherboard releases, though usually less important, normally only worth updating if you have a specific problem. In the case of a potential new BIOS with overclocking features, CLEVO will release them to resellers who will then release them to their customers. We usually test them first and I'm sure most other resellers do as well.

So ultimately the resellers will always support their customers with new drivers and BIOS :)

Ok, sounds good. Takes away a bit of our liberty to just update whenever, but I guess it reduces the number of ruined BIOS and bricked laptops.

Wasnt specifically referring to you Neil i know the guys at Kobalt will always look after us.

Im just thinking for people who brought Novatech machines or from other retailers.

Rest assured Kobalt are by far the most relieable when it comes to tech support so i have no doubt that as soon as you have it that you will supply it :) but not everyone is fortunate enough to have full support

so any word on what changes the new 1.05 bios has ?

i would expect novatech to also offer any new oc bios, should i request it as they have won awards for custom pc's etc from major publications like pc pro.

If not they would not get any more business from me - and i imagine anyone who reads this forum, as i nor anyone else who has spend £3k on a laptop would not accept that quietly.

Also should kobalt then give it to their customers - i would be doing all future business with them.

in saying that, in my opinion a real quality retailer/reseller would contact me to inform me of a new bios being available, rather than me having to ask. :) yes i'm a dreamer.

I know what you meant Pman, though it shouldn't technically make any difference to any resellers.

As I mentioned before there's no point in updating every new BIOS, 1.04 is the most up to date atm so until 1.05 is released (officially) then we'll just have to wait. If/when a future official BIOS supports an unlocked multi then Clevo will send it out to every reseller and they should make it available to their customers. If it's an official BIOS then I suppose you might have to ask rather than expect to have it sent to you from some companies but there's no reason why any resellers will flat out refuse to send it out.

On the i7 motherboard, I'm not sure if you mean mobile i7 or not but if/when CLEVO manufacture a board I'm sure all the major resellers will offer it :)

Yes this is what they said:

"This is kind of interesting when I mentioned about upgrading in he future to the QX9300.

Intel doesn't plan to dropprices of QX9300 so don't count on this. You may be better off long term to upgrade VGA to next generation Nvidia N11E-GTX with DDR5 coming early next year - N11E-GTX is namecode for next gen VGA silicoon, GTX 280M is N10E

Our next upgrade of M98NU XCaliber is to Intel "Clarksfield platform" based on PM55 chipset and Intel i7 Mobile CPUs 720QM, 820QM and 920QM. Next model will be called X8100 - and will use same mechanical design as the current model.

We will offer upgrade package so you can upgrade your current model to X8100 XCaliber2 by replacing motherboard and CPU (new CPUs are socket 939 different from the current ones).

We will lauch updated model in about 6 months. Same spec and mechanical design- just different motherboard."

Yes, Windows 7 will be released and begin shipping on October 22nd.

You have waited this long...another few weeks won't hurt, but I would recommend getting your order in fairly quickly because the back orders waiting for Windows 7 are already starting.

So if I order now, you will hold it til Windows 7 comes out. Is it going to be the same price as Vista Ultimate?

And does the warranty date start from the day I order it, or the day it ships out?

Correct...and the price will not be higher, but could be lower.

Warranties always start on the ship date, not the order date or the date you receive it.
