yup and he spends his time here helping the people he sells systems to .....

Look i know he wants the unit as well but to be safe and smart its better to wait for sager because they have a very very long history of great notebooks and if it doesn't meet their standard then even i stand behind them.

Being the biggest distro Clevo would MAKE SURE Sager got them first, and the idea the "assembly" of every system screwed up is crazy. To say every system they built broke would be a insane idea to even think

    From Sager:

"Sager NP9850 released shipping Starts today,

Stuttering issue has been pin pointed by Clevo that it is caused by system vibration from audio to disk drives.

Solution is apply sponge padding to related area as well as driver tuning."

By asking for some more proof other then shear hear say? By simply pointing out the fact that no one has suffered a single problem apart from sager?

Ok maybe I haven't noticed the problem which is apparent with all the m980nu machines I mean I only benches everygame in sight? But what about all the other people out there are they blind too?

If that is the case they haven't noticed it either must be a very very small problem!!

Due to the limited supply worldwide of the 3MP camera we do not have an ETA for when it will be offered in the NP9850. At this time, and for the foreseeable future it will ship with the 2MP camera.

that all they can think is a sponge padding?
Maybe I never notice the vibration thing because I use the spdif to connect my z-5500

Hi. I am happy. Finally got an email that status is changed so now my computer is being built. Supposedly it takes 3-7 days for testing and all that and then hopefully it'll be shipped. About time but hopefully it's worth the wait. Yay I finally get a cpu that's greater than 2 ghz. My first one at 2.53. I'll smoke everything away. That plus 2 gpu's all for less than my bro's macbook pro and more than twice the capability.

hopefully someone will post more exact details of this hardware and software mod by sager i.e. pics, hdd models involved etc.

i can't believe its speakers/or hdd that was causing my issue, i only ever have the speakers at the 2nd setting (on touch control). However if its any vibration my fans certainly could as they are like plane engines taking off :D

my unit is now back at novatech undergoing testing. I have high hopes the issues will be resolved.

however does anyone know where i can purchase a quieter fan for the gtx 280's ?

Please read my post more carefully. This issue was fixed by Clevo...it is not a Sager mod. It also doesn't say whether it was the HDD or ODD.

Since it is a Clevo fix it is available to all Clevo OEMs so you should look to yours for details, and to send yours back in to them for the appropriate repair.

thanks paladin, but don't you think its a little strange they havn't said if its the hdd or odd, also it where have they fitted the sponge ? to the hdd, the odd, the gfx ?

kobalt and novatech in the uk both claim they worked closely with clevo for the release of this system, don't you think they would have been told ?

i believe both companies pride themselves on great customer service etc i don't believe they would hold back this info on a fix if all that was required was some sponge padding.

    there is no conspiracy

every one who owns one can see clevo actually made them

and if sager actually had the laptops they would be selling them, not like they would hold them back

    @ fatpanda

    1. No, I don't think it is strange at all for Clevo to not make a detailed public announcement of exactly what and where. They will share this information with their importing OEMs, but should not be expected to share it with anyone else.

    2. As for Kobalt and Novatech, you will have to ask them your questions. I do not believe either of them are importing OEMs, rather they buy their shells from an importing OEM, so they will have to get their information through the appropriate channels.

    @ The Moo™...

    Correct...no conspiracy is involved here.

Sager has had them in stock for about 2 months...but Sager found the stuttering issue and reported it to Clevo. Clevo duplicated and acknowledged the issue and began working on the resolution.

It appears the issues has now been resolved.

Now, if other resellers are not aware of this then they are simply not communicating well with the vendor from whom they are buying their shells. I seriously doubt that any importing OEM claims they are not aware of this episode (excluding of course Eurocom that made a claim that they found a resistor on the motherboard that was causing it, which has now been proved to be totally false).

Therefore Sager has had to sit on inventory for about 2 months that they could not sell due to this issue. Any suggestion there was some business "motive" other than protecting their customers is simply fabricated.

That is because they do not have a direct relationship with Clevo or Sager.

They buy their shells from a secondary source.

Personally, I am glad Sager is looking out for their customers. Gives me a lot more confidence in my purchase. Thanks to Paladin44 for keeping those of us waiting informed as best he could with what info was given to him. As a former Dell and Gateway employee I know how big corporations like to keep things under wraps. So +1 for Paladin44, thanks again.

lol Yeah, I bought a FAILBox a month ago for $40, it was already RRoD. I rebuilt it, and have used it for the first two days after I rebuilt it, haven't turned it on since. lol I hate them, looking forward to selling it and buying a PS3, might have to get another RRoD FAILBox, and rebuild it, shouldn't be hard RRoD FAILBox are easy to find for cheap. Anyway an NP9850 + PS3 = Ultimate gaming combo. XD

Sager did not make this up or pull this problem out of a hat. As Donald has stated Sager has made it clear to all resellers this is a problem and it was duplicated by Clevo. These are the facts and what has prevented Sager and their resellers from shipping a flawless M980.

    Hey guys,

I have a serious dillema....I am looking between the beautiful M980 with it's dual 280's and 18.4" ,Quad core capability and comparing it to a 9280 with i7 cores and 6GB of RAM (where the M980 goes up to 4GB in an affordable price -else you gotta pay like 400$) and I am wondering which one to buy.
I am gonna be gaming....HARD and both these lappies are awesome. Which one would live longer in performance perspective? Should I go for the more sophisticated hardware-wise NP9280 with i7 950 and 6GB on 1333Mhz or should I get the dual gpu M980 with 4GB and a Quad core on 2.0 or 2.53Ghz?

I am struggling between those two about a month and I cannot make up my mind....Please give me some thoughts!

The extra memory won't help at all in gaming while the dual GPUs will. If your talking specifically gaming the M980 is the better choice, IMO.

Put vista cd inside, reboot, then it should ask you if you want to repair or install vista.. up to you what you want to do. Make sure in bios, in the boot sequence, the cd is first.

That's crazy...where did you buy it?

Either way, you should contact your vendor to see if they made a recovery partition.
