Xotic and PowerNotebooks seem to be the favorites right now.
And my main reason for posting is that I'm quite certain I've found out what this LCD we're seeing is... I tracked down that APP9C72 number we get by splitting it into 9C72.. and guess what... circa 2008 17 inch MacBook Pro's are using them as well.
Model number appears to be LP171WE2-TLA3
made by LG Phillips.

Might explain why it looks as good as it does.

I have a video problem. All of a sudden my screen went black. Even my post screen is black. All I see is a faint light in the screen (maybe the light bulb). I can hear the sounds as if laptop works so all works but the screen. Prior to the screen going, my GPU was reving up the fan full blast (this one time only).
All connections seemed fine.
Did my video card blow or did my screen die?
Just plugged in to a monitor via the digital DVI and I can see my desktop and all. But my laptop screen is still black.
Any suggetions? -
If you have the proper image on the external screen then your video card shouldn't be broken. It's probably something to do with the screen. Just call your reseller and see what can be done.

I noticed new video drivers posted on Pro-star's site. For the 9800m (Ver. 7.15.11.7675) is posted as of 4/15/09 but Nvidia has 179.48 on the site since Feb 11. Any reason for the downgrade? V.179.48 seemed to work fine for months.
I also noticed xoticpc listed a newer wifi update (WIFI_LINK_12200) for the 5300, yet Pro-star did not. What's the benefit to this newer driver? -
The 176.75 are antique drivers . Sorry. They were lunched with the 9800M GTX in august/september last year.
-
Seems so.
How about the WiFi update? Anyone use that one? Any benefits? -
What's the latest BIOS and EC? 1.0.12 and 1.0.9 ?
-
i think so blacky.. 1.0.12 for bios ec i dont know
im sticking with 1.0.10 for the moment no issues evrything working fine
greetings flode
ps. i contacted my local vendor who told me that they are doing some testing with the 1.0.12 firmware which should be finished in about 2 weeks after that they will release it. so im in no hurry updating. the local vendor is schneker notebooks is someone is intrested in that. -
Alright so I'm considering buying a 5796 used from mKang25 here -> http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=373379
I just had a couple questions. Is 1400$ good for what he has? I'm guessing yes considering brand new it would cost upwards of 2000.
As well if I do get it, what would you suggest me doing when it first arrives. I'm already thinking of putting Windows 7 on so I'd need to find a beta key right? As well should I swap w/e thermal paste it has on the cpu/gpu for some OCZ or something?
I have no problem taking the laptop apart, I just need some guidance as I don't want to kill anything .
Thanks guys! -
-
Very easy to take the GPU heat sink off.
Mine had gunk all over. I cleaned up the paste and put Arctic silver.
No wonder the fan would kick on so often.
Oh, ground yourself... always. -
I've got a question in due time I'd like to replace the stock dvd burner for a bluray burner/player and preferably one without the tray that comes out of the drive.
But the front panel of the drive is not standard as it isnt square it gets smaller at the right end.
Anyone replaced their drive for another or is the only option to buy from clevo/sager/xxodd? -
Well on the xoticpc site they list the replacement as being the panasonic uj-120/220...
So I'm guessind that they fit perfectly? -
Well I dont know if they have the same frontpanel (wonder if you can order sidepanels for the m570tu discdrives), also I dont really want a bluray drive with a tray I want one where you slide the disc in by hand (which would mean you need a different panel, as in one with a slit) .
I wonder if this is a no go (as in putting in a square shaped drive and having a hole in the side bc it doesnt fit 100%) -
Well I know I've seen on ebay those slot-load drives (f'ing expensive!!! xD) but I understand where you're coming from.
Maybe email xoticpc and ask them if the drives just plug and play or they have to be modified? -
yeah I sent in a mail, waiting on a reply just wondering if someone replaced their cd/dvd/bluray drive on a m570tu and could give me an answer.
Thnx for replying tho and yeah I like slot-load drives a lot more lol the drives with a tray are so flimsy also I had one open on me when i was walking past a wall and it wasnt pretty my notebook became an amputee that day... -
Haha yea, they intrigue me as well Will probably look into getting one when/if I buy the 5796 off mKang here.
-
blu ray drives that fits in M570ETU are Sony BC-5500S, HL CT10N, Panasonic UJ-130A.
To all of them you can remove the faceplate and replace with yours. -
Just to insert some ideas here... I've seen the slot loaders on Dell laptops recently. But has anyone thought about what you're going to do if it jams or eats a disc?
Might look nice for the .3 seconds it's being shown off, but may end up being more of a headache in the long run. Even the Dell one I saw, guy kept having to reinsert the disc like he was at a vending machine with a warped dollar bill. -
-
Yes, they are the same
-
-
But still.... where do I get the faceplate from?
The only faceplate I have atm is for a tray drive not a slot drive. -
you can contact a Clevo vendor if you want a specific optical drive bezel.
-
Switching the focus here... did the "rubber band keyboard mod" on my 5797 and the flex is pretty much eradicated. I went a bit further and put rubber bands in cut strips all over the affected area and it seems to have knocked out the rattle as well.
Not sure how it's going to affect heat, but I don't really see it as much of an issue since the board is now raised a little. If anything, airflow from the fan that's under Backspace, should be improved. Think I'll wait a while and see how it works. Might glue them to the chassis later but it may not be needed since there's a lot of pressure holding the keyboard in place.
Also, when I pulled the keyboard out, it did indeed have a noticeable amount of warp in the flex zone.
I'll be sure to include this in my review. -
Is there a thread for all these *mods* or we just look through this big thread?
-
-
DZ - you just have to use the search feature for this forum.
There's at least one other person that used rubber bands, but he just dropped them on the plate under the keyboard.
I cut them to length and laid them flat, as well as added many more pieces.
Actually it's working really well, but the undone side of the keyboard now is just ever so slightly lower than the rest. But it's still "solid" feeling. So I'm debating on just doing the whole thing in rubber bands so it's perfectly level all over. -
i do have q question about the digital output of the m570tu.
i wanna connect a 5.1 system per optical output. the 5.1 device hasn 2 digital inputs. one coaxial digital input and one optical digital input. but my laptop doesnt have an optical digital ouput only an SPDIF output. which kind of cable do i need. im not that epert in soud issues...

another question
i connect my laptop to my hdtv via hdmi and then i connect my hdtv via optical digital output to my 5.1 system which is capable decoding dts & dolby.
but i only get an stereo signal @ the 5.1 system
how can i get the dts&dolbysignals via hdmi to the hdtv which leads them out of the optical output to the 5.1 system??
pls help
thanks

realtek audio manager...switch to digital
-
ähm yes of course i switch to digital. it is alreadys switched or else i wouldnt get a stereo sound out of it... i think you didnt understand the fully problem
-
It looks like your tv can only output stereo sound (exactly as it would play it through its own speakers). The only way to get 5.1 would be to run a digital coaxial (NOT optical) cable from the laptop directly to the 5.1 system (if it supports digital coaxial)
-
Even if his TV only supports stereo sound, when the HDMI goes from laptop to tv...then optical from tv to surround...there should be no conflict.
The problem has to be with the HDMI output from the laptop. -
well i do think the laptop doesnt give out the dolby & dts signals to the hdmi port.. so no chance getting them anywhere out at the optical output from the tv.
i just wanted to tell you i just got latest 1.0.12 and 1.0.10 EC Bios from my local vendor per email. i flashed them everything works fine but id like to know what has actually changed any has the changelog?
greetings flode -
It's incredible how CPU dependent 3dmark06 is.
I was getting 10200 at best on the old P8600. I got myself now a T9600 and the score jumped to 11300 from the first run. Darn.

Here is the link to the 2in1 package
1. System BIOS 1.00.16, EC firmware 1.00.11.
2. Support nVIDIA GeForce GTS 160M VGA card.
3. Solve sometimes system can’t boot up issue.
4. Run step1.bat to update EC firmware, run step2.bat to update system BIOS.
Edit: Flode, are you sure they are not for the M570RU (5793)? As those are the latest versions for that platform, and those version numbers were skipped for the M570TU. -
They are also on Clevo's website although the link isn't working for everyone:
http://www.clevo.com.tw/en/e-services/esupport/MarketDLOut.asp?model=M57xTU&go=GO&type=BIOS -
no im sure they are 4 the m570tu i got them from my local vendor which tested them before releasing thats the reason for the time gap. im only gonna use bioses which are tested and founded good from my vendor. and yeah great to have a new bios. looks like they realy working on our model
greetings flode -
A few of y'all kind of knowingly burned out the GPU with messed up flashes and what not, and then sent the lappie in for a new mobo and gpu, isn't that somehow against the warranty?
Forgive me for my ignorance. -
-
BIOS
1. System BIOS 1.00.16, EC firmware 1.00.11.
2. Support nVIDIA GeForce GTS 160M VGA card.
3. Solve sometimes system cant boot up issue.
4. Run step1.bat to update EC firmware, run step2.bat to update system BIOS. -
I don't want to deliberately sabotage my motherboard, but I wouldn't mind accidentally needing a new replacement... ya dig? -
I sent mine out to get repaired since my screen went blank. Works if I plug to external monitor though. I thought it was just my screen, but they said it's my graphics card that went. I didn't OC it or anything.
I should have back by Monday.
I'm gonna take it apart and make sure they didn't gunk up the thermal paste. Anyone want any info while I'm poking around? -
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
I just reflashed my M570TU from 1.00.12/1.00.09 to 1.00.16/1.00.11. It appears that Clevo has made a change to silent mode. The silent mode from the previous BIOS kept the CPU and GPU fan constanly running at its lowest speed. The new 1.00.16 BIOS keeps only the GPU fan at its lowest speed and turns off the CPU fan completely. However, my QX9300 is still capped to 2.13GHz when silent mode is on just like the previous BIOS.
For me, the new BIOS definately helps in class as the CPU fan is louder than the GPU fan. Now I can sit through finals reviews and play without having the sound of a jet engine in the classroom.
And happy belated birthday post! -
Did you used to have the 0TU and upgraded your mobo? -
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
I have the ETU. I just have the habit of typing TU.

"I see.", said the blind man.
