can you help me meto find out if this notebook is a m570ru or m570tu?
    http://www.playdeep.it/PC/venus
it seems a m570tu to me, what are the differences?
asked them how much ram can it support max? they said 4gb but i thought the m570tu could suport 8gb max.
    thank you

Actually its 16GB.... but DDR3 is still new, limited and expensive so the limit for consumers is 8GB.

    Thanks. :)

I wish we would see more 2x3gb chips like the new I7 platform is seeing, just not triple channel lol. 6gbs would be perfect i think.
Same here on the 17" go with the better display, I did and i am very happy...If for some reason your reading something that is hard to read, just hold your control key and use your mouse scroll wheel and the text size will increase.

I like how WUXGA looks, however it makes it hard to game at native resolutions and keep a decent framerate. 1650x1080 looks just as good, and depending on the game, lends you another 5-10fps. The 9800M GTX just doesn't have enough power to keep up with that resolution in modern gaming. The GTX 280M, however, is a different story.

Thats good to know cause I was going to buy 2 x4gigs but no one would give me a straight answer on whether it would work. From other experiences I have had laptops that had 2 gig limits and most, but not all took 4 gigs no problem. Well It's off to buy more memory... Woot!

Ok well maybe not right now. I was willing to pay a pretty penny but not $600.00 + dollars! I should have bought it on ebay when I saw a set go for $250.00. :(

BTW emike09 I saw that nvidia released windows 7 drivers but no "m" models were listed. Have you tried them yet to see if they work? I'm going to download them and try them hopefully tomorrow unless you give me the thumbs down.

I did try them using them and they ran quite well, however I lost audio through HDMI, so I reverted back to official M drivers.

Wait a sec, you were able to get audio on your 5797 via HDMI? According to the forums over at xoticpc, where I got my 5797, HDMI was not available with the 9800 GTX.

Please advise how you go this to work.

    Thanks, in advance.

When I last used HDMI it would have been driver 181.20 from www.laptopvideo2go.com

I used it to play a N64 emulator on the TV >_>

I mistyped. I use the HDMI for video, but no sound seems to be available. nIMrOD888, can you please explain how you got the sound to work? I went searching around in the bios, sound settings, etc, and don't see anywhere that HDMI sound is listed. Which driver are you using?
    Thanks, in advance.

I have to thank everyone at this forum. I upgraded my bios and EC firmware successfully using usb boot and the updates as instructed.
So I'd like to say, it works on the M570TU from Pro-Star.
I got my WEI to go from 5.0 to 5.9. This irked me, and now that's done.

My specs, since the signature doesn't seem to work yet.
    M570TU, Vista Ultimate 64, 2GB DDR3 CL7 (transcend), Nvidia 9800M GT, 17" ?x1050.
    bios from v.6 to v.10
    EC from v.04a to v.09
    P9500 (2.53Ghz)

    2GB to 4GB ram Problem

Did anyone experience a problem going from 2GB to 4GB? I get BSoD crashes when I bench the memory or play LoTRO.
I was hoping the bios & EC updates would help (they kinda helped a tiny bit), but I still crash.
I fear I might have to reinstall Vista 64.

Back on the display choice issue.

Has anyone here compared either the 1680x1050 or the 1920x1200 display to something like the Sony VAIO AW290 (18.4" widescreen RGB LED) or the Dell Studio 17 with RGB LED? Or even to an older Clevo like the M570U?

I had a 1680x1050 M570U and the display was very dim and washed out IMHO.

the LCD's have improved over the years.

the LG.Philips WUXGA panel that I have has been updated (still the same model numer) to increase the contrast and the response time.... I know what LCD panel I want if mine were to go out. :)

I've just noticed that the stock notebook drivers on Nvidia's website, the 179.48 don't install on my 0608, probably because of the subsystem id.
    mine is:
    PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0608&SUBSYS_04811558

I've also realised that you need to install these drivers if you want to have HDMI sound.
Has anyone else came across this problem ? Any way to fix it ?

    Guys,
I need your help. In fact, I'd like to get NP8662. That's fine for me, except 1 thing: screen brightness is not really great. From one hand, I can live with this, but fom other hand, the price difference is USD400...

So, how's screen brightness on WUVGA?

Just install the official Nvidia drivers from Nvidia's website and you should get the HDMI sound going.

I'm just wondering... is there such a thing around here is a "quick start" guide to setting up/checking/updating on the Sager when you receive it.

I mean updating the GPU drivers is a given, but sometimes it's not so obvious what all should be updated and where. Sager's site too is sort of hit or miss on updates. Thinking maybe there should be another guide or FAQ addon maybe? Wouldn't do any good though to mention specific driver versions, since they change so often.

I ordered a 5797 with the newest nVidia card from Pctorque, payment just cleared. I'll write a review once it gets in... although I configured it low to try and work closer to my budget. Whatever tests you want done I can take submissions for now.

    Hey JGZinv,

I recommend you take a look at this thread. It has a lot of good info about getting started with a bunch of other links to useful threads on overclocking, undervolting, vista tweaks, ect. This thread here also has some pretty good information. Congratulations on your purchase. I myself just bought a 5797 from xoticpc.

Indeed, although the M570RU-U`s delivered to my company in the fall of last year had WSXGA+ glossy panels made in 2005 (reported by Everest Ultimate). Of course they were of lacking 200nit brightness and 25ms response time. LG Philips LP171WE2-TL03 was the model.

They increase the contrast but _decrease_ the response time :D

On a side note, does the M570TU still have 45-50C HDD temperatures with 5400rpm Samsung drives and 50C+ with 7200rpm drives?

Okay, in my experience all Samsungs and Seagate 7200.3`s in M570RU and RU-U`s ran really hot, close and over 50c when idle.
The heat took its toll on the hapless Samsungs, only rated at 50c max operating temperature - it was really tragicomic when I had to swap out a HM250JI, which was, in turn, swapped out less than half a year ago.
The point is, when dealing with M570TU`s, there shouldn't be so much trouble with HDD temperatures and subsequent failures as in M570RU(-U)?

Not quite the same machine but my HTS723225L9A362 runs 39C in my D630.

I just preordered a Sager 5797 with the GTX 280M off of XoticPC. I am so excited! And kind of broke!

I really hope it gets released ASAP. I'll probably be checking the order status ten times a day for the next couple of weeks.

Has anyone installed an SSD drive in their M570TU?
I'm very tempted to get the OCZ Vertex SSD.

I'm not sure, but can we fit two drives in this model? I would love to keep original HDD and install an SSD as a second.

Wow. I never had anything higher than 42 degrees on my 7200.4. When idling it stays around 32-35. I'm going to mod the hard drive cooling in the next week or two to finish off all the crazy sh*t that I've been doing to my laptop.

Wow, 1.5 months!! This is a bit insane... I mean I would also like my esata to start working right (same problem with any esata disks I tried), but the wait! This is simply not acceptable. Did you order yours through xoticpc? I am going to talk to them and Sager about this: if they know that many of their customers have problems with esata, the least they can do is to fix the problem promptly... 1.5 months is about 5-10% of the total product lifetime!!
