even though I only have an np8662 / m860etu, I really wish clevo kept the m570 line going. I know we have to evolve (like getting dragged into vista, only to see win7 isn't horrible after all), but why not then just keep the shape and put the new bits in? If the np579x series was robust enough to handle ridiculous overclocking, quadcores, etc., shouldn't it have been able to handle getting core i7-m in it? (And the 16:9 premise is absurd... i like my 16:10 screens a lot)

Unfortunately there isn't much that can be done now. We just have to be proud we had one of the best notebooks ever made :D.

RJTech is still selling M570TU spare parts and the GTX 280M kit if you want to upgrade in the future.

Just wanted to let you know that my GTX 280M is dead. Not overclocked, used a cooling pad some times, never overheated.

RIP Adorex's GTX 280M. First of all, don't lie to me. I'm looking at all of your older posts and you indeed overclocked your card. For god sake it's even in your sig. If you want to be Jesus for a day, you can bake your card and bring it back to life.

Are you sure your card is dead? Can you give us a few details on how you deduced the card to be dead? Have you tried cleaning out the GPU socket and reseating the card?

For one week, I gave it the old juice. But gave it up early. Since then, ref sig comment, the only overclock is the CPU, so don't stick that in my face, since it's not in my sig, and not true anymore.

EDIT: You must be talking about my 3D mark score, and like I mentioned above that was a one time deal, but you would not know that.

As for why I think (know) its fried are the pretty colors I got instead of the game I was playing, the message about how the video drivers failed, and the inability to boot up into windows after it happened.

As for calling me a liar, don't be a jerk.

The fact still stands that you overclocked your card, no matter how subtle the gain is, or how short the duration was. I don't know how far you went when you did overclock your card, but it may contribute to your card's failure as we do not know the details. You are in no position to call me a jerk, but I have every right to call you a liar. Nevertheless, the colors on your screen are symptoms of either bad GPU memory, or corrupt drivers.

Download OCCT and run the GPU memory test. Two passes should be more than enough.

What drivers were you using when you saw those colors on your screen? What temperatures did you observe when these colors appeared during your game?

Lying implies I said something with the intent to not tell the truth, which was not my intent. In fact, the over clocking I did was so long ago, that I simply forgot, until you brought it up.

I see. If it wasn't your intention, then I understand. I approached you aggressively because from my experience with diagnosing dead card's from my clients, there is a very high correlation between dead cards and overclocking the card behind my back. I am glad that you aren't one of them.

Back to my original questions, were you able to pinpoint what caused the Nvidia driver error to appear?

damn. I just got mine a few months ago, and love it. I wouldn't even upgrade to the i7 processor until I see benchmarks, power consumption, and thermal values. My t9900 is ice cold now that I've undervolted, never going over 45c even when playing Warhead. Hell, I idle under 30c I know quads run hotter than dual cores, but what will an i7 due? Does anybody know what its wattage is?

This is easily the best notebook I have ever owned. The screen is fantastic for productivity (running two documents side by side easily), but I never struggle to carry the 8 pounds of laptop anywhere. The GTX 280 quashes any normal game I send at it, and I don't really see the need to gain 11-18 fps by switching to two in SLI.

I wonder if the nehalem will be able to run in this machine or not? If not, there is always the qx9300 beast out there, waiting to be overclocked to silly levels.

And hellz-yeah, this baby is getting an SSD later

The notebook is awesome. BTW my QX9300 idles at 35, load while gaming is 55/60, benchmark is 70/75. The i7-920XM (2Ghz quad) is supposed to be a little hotter on load as its a 55watt TDP, while the QX9300 is 45watt. But the i7-930XM will be a little faster and use less power idling. Truth is tho, its not as screaming fast as people will have you believe, and its going to be very hot. Hopefully the notebooks that support it will be as cheap as the ones that support the QX9300 now. I feel the QX9300 will still be a great processor for a long time still.

Again, does anyone know the product code for the Kingstone hyperx memories ?

The ones I found on newegg supposedly need a bios that supports changing memory timings. I want the ones that work automatically at CL5, but I can't find them anywhere.

I found the kit of 100 USD here in UK. :)

Once SSDs are just 20% more expensive than a normal HDD, I will consider them. :D

If you have motherboard revision V3.1B, then your notebook can accept quads. You can find out what motherboard revision you have by removing the top RAM module.

Further delving into upgrade plans, I've got my eye on some things... (when I'm not broke, and I still have more important things to pay for heh)

    Intel 160GB SSD G2
    SSDSA2MH160G2R5

Best SSD on the market, nuff said. Newegg is charging an arm and a leg however, demand is way too high. This will have to wait till spring time or so.

    Kingston 2x 2GB DDR3 1066MHz, CL5
    KHX1066C5S3K2/4G

8GB is useless to me, but I suppose it wouldn't hurt to have the lowest latency RAM. Correct me if I'm wrong, but higher than 1066mhz speed would be useless in the M570ETU, right?

    Panasonic 4x BD-ROM Drive
    UJ-135

It's $200 and has 4x read speed, which is the highest possbile in a slim drive I think. I don't need a Blu Ray writer. The price isn't that bad. I love movies and I have a great TV to pair it with, but still don't have a Blu Ray player. Christmas gift for myself, lol. Would the veneer pop off my current disk drive, or am I SOL?

    17" LG WUXGA LCD
    LP171WU1-TLA2

From what Soviet has said, this is the best screen upgrade out there. It's about $200, and I'm a little concerned about actually performing the replacement, but I've done the job before, albeit that was a complete assembly transfer on 2 identical HPs. I want WUXGA because I can have it, not really because I need it.

I have V3.0B-1 and Clevo said, it is the mod. of the 3.0B and has Quad support!
Unfortunately is it too expensiv for me to buy the cheapest sokel p Quad to Test.

thats why i ask for someone with an quadcore clevo of 2008.

I'll stick to hard drives, haha. Seagate should have their 1TB 7200.5 out by next year. I'll be hopping on the single platter 500GB version of it.

Unless you plan to FSB overclock, memory higher than 1066MHz would be useless. However, it is better to flash the memory down to 800MHz or lower to help stabilize the whole FSB rather than buy higher rated memory. Memory cooling and northbridge cooling also plays a huge factor in this.

The bezel on the ODD is removeable. Panasonic makes the best ODD's so if you can get a good deal on it, you will be getting the Rolls-Royce of ODD's.

No other 17 inch WUXGA CCFL panel comes near the TLA2, period. This is LG's pride and joy.

    Hello guys,
im in trouble again. baught a new external harddrive with firewire. so good.
the problem is i connected the firewire 400 harddrive with an 6 to 4 pin firewire converter (an old apple one i already had) an tested the speeds.
strangly under windows 7 at beginning i realy get some nice speeds also with files around 700 mb. but when i copy 7 gb files it slows down very very much and stocks aroung 15 mb/s thats realy wiered i rember having speed abou 33-40 mb per second with my ipod with firewire?

do you think the pin converter is the problem maybe buy a new one?

or is the jmicron firewire chipset on the m570tu just a piece of crap?

    greetings flode

Do you have a link to the drive you are referring to?

Replacing the ODD is very easy. Push the tab near the bottom of your notebook downward, and while holding that down, push the tab on the backpanel to the right. This will push the ODD out of it's bay.

    Thanks RealMJtm. :)

In trying to hunt down an nVidia GTX 280M 1GB for a decent price, I called Sager sales. The rep told me that card isn't compatible with the 5796, but that is incorrect, isn't it?

Can anyone recommend a retailer to buy the GTX 280M video card from besides RJTech? XoticPC won't sell the card by itself, unfortunately.

You're not just paying for a performance increase, rather an improved heatsink as well. Yes, selling your 9800M GTX will cover some of the cost. Usually you can sell it for around $400 shipped at minimum here on NBR.

If you bust your card, RJTech will replace it. It's as simple as that. Their warranty is very progressive towards the end-user handling the parts on their own.

Just sell the 9800M GTX for ~$450 here and use that money towards a new GTX 280M.
