Oh wow GTX280M is quite expensive....for almost 200 bucks cheaper u can get a desktop GTX 285 from newegg! But I guess that's what u pay for high mobility.

Is RJtech the only website that sells the GTX 280M? (I'm in in the continental USA) or are there anywhere else that sells these high end laptop parts?

I am getting a Clevo M570TU soon (a friend bought it from Pro-star) and it has the 9800M GTX but if its almost $500 for an upgrade I'm not sure if its worth the money (gonna by buying his laptop it for 950)

If you can secure a buyer for the 9800M GTX, which shouldn't be a problem because there are surprisingly a healthy number of users needing G92's in the Marketplace, you can upgrade to the GTX 280M without losing too much.

    No.

Finally I'll be getting my NP5797 tomorrow :D

I'll be installing Windows 7 RTM when I get it and is there anything special i have to do before i boot it? I have never installed an OS on a system before.

I assume you ordered the laptop without an OS pre-installed?

In that case, you simply have to put the windows 7 DVD into the optical drive and let it boot up. Of course, I always like to boot into BIOS and check to make sure everything is right before loading into the OS.

I just got back from my friend's place after cutting a few copper sheets I picked up at The Home Depot with his metal saws. This is not the last revision to my heatsink overhaul; the last revision will come Friday. I have replaced the thermal pad on the northbridge with a copper square, and I have added a huge copper plate to the back of the HDD mounting plate.

Here is the northbridge with the copper shim and a fresh application of MX-2 on both sides of the shim. The copper shim has been lapped flat as a pancake and shiny as a mirror.

    [IMG] [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

Here is the hard drive with the copper plate. The copper plate has also been lapped flat as a pancake and shiny as a mirror. The plate has been attached with thermal tape. The HDD mounting plate has also been lapped to a nie mirror shine.

    [IMG] [IMG]

And here is the final result before the next mod coming Friday.

So far, I have tested the hard drive temps by running two back to back passes on HDTune, seeding multiple torrents with no upload speed restrictions and with the upload buffer disabled for half an hour, and playing GTA IV for half an hour. Ambient temperature remained at a constant 22*C. My notebook was sitting ontop of my Edova Xpad as always. My hard drive temps would always peak around 48-50*C at the same ambient temperature before the installation of the copper plate. Now, after the mod and after thrashing my hard drive for a long session, the highest recorded temp reported by HWMonitor is 44*C. It appears that the huge slab of copper has reduced my HDD load temps by a good 4-5*C bringing my HDD temps even further away from 60*C. M860TU users, I highly suggest you jump on this if you don't mind adding a little bit more weight to your machine.

Usually it's either DEL or F2 or F12 or something similar. On the initial POST screen it should say on either the top or bottom what key to press to get into the BIOS. Also it should come with a manual that tells u how to do so.

    Hi guys,I've just received my NP5797,it's working great,but I have a question.
Why does my motherboard show as M570TU?
    It should be M570ETU right?
I saw it in a program called everest, also CPU-Z confirms it.
    I don't understand what's going on

M570ETU is the unofficial name given by the community and resellers to distinguish the different motherboard revisions. Clevo never added the "E" to any of their notebooks.

Yeah my notebook was advertised as a 570tu-2 but it's in fact a clevo m570tu.
On a side note I recently got a ocd vertex 120 gb ssd installed windows 7 on it and put my 320gb 7200 rpm hitachi in an optical drive bay caddy (got this one: http://newmodeus.com/shop/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2_27&products_id=179 ) and it works like a train (no heat problems either).
Installing it is really easy, adjusting the bezel wasnt hard to do; you can easily cut off a bit of plastic to make it fit perfectly.
So I have now 2 hdd's in my notebook and when I want to use my dvd drive I can either hotswap or use my usb powered one ;)
    I'd recommend it to everyone.

    Hi there all

A friend of mine has a NP5796 with a T9400, now he wants to ugrade to a QX9300.
because his pinaccle studio renders to slow.

He asked me some questions regarding Overclocking that i could not answer (in never looked in the bios from the machine)
but can you overclock the machine in the bios ? or do need other tools..
i it a good idea to buy a QX9300 from E-bay or.. no...

    Thanks for the help,

It's a good idea to buy from ebay imo, the qx9300 does make quite a difference in rendering movies and the cpu by normal means is really expensive (there was a hp deal sometime ago but not sure if it's still there).
You can easily overclock the cpu in the notebooks bios (start up press f2) you can set the cpu to 2.93 ghz theres an overclock option.
It runs cool around 35 degrees idle (you can undervolt it easily even when overclocked to 2.93 ghz I use cpugenie) it runs about as cool as my "old"
    t9600.
Make sure you get a good qx9300 ES from ebay tho try to get a quality sample (QGNG).
I see you're from the netherlands? so am I I ordered mine from ebay from hi-emmanuel (as he is known on these forums)/elitetechpc from the US and it took quite some time(around 3.5/4 weeks) it was 2.5 weeks in customs had to pay 19% taxes and about 15 euros administration still it was like less than 1/3 the price as than it is oem (payed including delivery and taxes about 350 euros).
You can be lucky tho and slip by customs, I ordered an optical bay drive from the US and it arrived a week later, so it's possible.
    Gl ;)

I'd absolutely recommend getting a QX9300 ES on ebay. Just get a QGNG version and you will be fine, it's exactly like the retail version.

I got mine for only $380. And I managed to clock it to 3,4 GHZ stable ;)

First time I clocked it to 3,6GHZ and my power supply broke, lol

    Thanks..

Yes i am from the Netherlands, but i work in Mexico. 1 month there, 1 month here so i have always the option to send it down to my US family and pick it up there (because mostly i travel trough the US)

I like the part not having to pay taxes at all, slipping through customs not needed, because you can import up to 400 Euro (570 Dollar) without having to pay taxes.
if you send it through post you pay sometimes.... :p

but i could not find the guy you mentioned on E-bay..

    @ Cookie

I got mine for only $380. And I managed to clock it to 3,4 GHZ stable
that a awesome speed there
Which guy you get it from..?

I believe people got their qx9300 es from someone named shirley? lol not sure you should just search for qx9300 es on ebay and you'll get some hits.
Yeah you could oc your qx9300 to 3.4 but 2.93 is oc-ing only by use of bios (believe 3.4 is only possible by using setfsb in windows if I'm correct?).
Yeah that's nice 400$ w/o custom fees etc. over here we can only freely import from the US up till like 50$ lol.

Only if you buy from a company. If you get it from a person you won't pay fees.
At least that's how it's supposed to be. I always had to pay VAT when I got something from US companies, but when I got it from a non-company ebay seller, there was no problem with the customs.

I don't make the rules, I live in the Netherlands if I buy something from the US (ebay) and it's more than 50$ (give or take) I have to pay 19% taxes (depending on what kind of item it is electronics is 19%) and about 15 euros customs fee.
Thats how it works over here.

That's just very wiered and it shouldn't matter when it comes to customs fees, we are all EU members, we have the same rules (at least we should have) when it comes to imports and exports. Given that I have done transactions like this in 3 different EU countries, until now I had no problems of this kind.

Here's a sneak peak of what will be coming later this week. So far, all I can say is that the GPU portion of the mod has decreased my temps enough for me warrant switching my primary clocks from 630/1550/930 to 640/1600/950. I won't spoil your appetite until later this week. Stay tuned.

The quest for a decent gaming notebook continues and I still can't decide on which one to buy. Now I'm considering an M570tu, but I got some questions:
    1. I keep reading about probs with cooling and fan noise. What's the deal ?
    2. Would you say that 1920x1080 resolution is to much for a 17" rig ?
    3. Is the P9700 CPU decent enough to play all recent games on it's native resolution ? (with a GTX280M)
    4. My reseller gives 2 options for the color of the chassis: Silverline and Blackline. Which is what ?

Your first three questions have been vigorously answered in this thread alone.

If you look at a picture of the M570TU, there is a single orange or silver stripe that runs along the border of the chassis. Your reseller is probably referring to the color of the display lid. The orange trim comes with a black lid while the silver trim comes with a silver lid. However, I would email them to clarify whether they are talking about the lid or the stripe around the chassis as the word "line" is making me go out on a limb here.

Altho I agree with soviet... lol.. I'll answer ;)
1)There's no problem with cooling /fan noise especially not with a p9700 and after some undervolting (even w/o there's not that much fan noise), this laptop has very nice cooling which can be a bit noisy when you're running games at full force but be happy that this notebook will keep it's innards cool.
There are no problems with cooling/fan noise imo (it's not completely silent but you're getting a gaming/desktop replacement notebook they tend to be abit more noisy).
2)My native res is 1920x1200 and it's not too much as in I can see/read everything on my screen you can set pictogram size/web page size etc. if you want to.
I like to be able to fit a lot of stuff on my screen ;)
You could however go for 1680x1050 too if you like (some prefer that).
3)Yes it will be powerful enough, my t9600 was, some games you will have to tweak a bit and keep your drivers updated or get dox (some people claim they work well).
Don't expect to set aa to the highest vsync on etc. with the some of the newest (or badly coded) games but when playing at native res you won't need those really imo.
And playing games not at native res isn't bad at all, I haven't experienced any problems or ugliness due to not playing at native ;)
4)This one is confusing as soviet said I guess they mean orange trim and silver trim, that's personal preference I read a lot of people prefer the silver one, I like the orange better here tho; don't really like fake metal the silver has lol.
The notebooks look rather sleek in person imo saw only some pics when I ordered but I wasnt disappointed.

Hello friends, I have bought the easily Notebook M570TU with the following configuration:
    Notebook Sense CM570TU Series
    Intel Core 2 Duo T9600 ( 2.80Ghz/6MB/FSB1066/45nm/35w )
    4096MB ( 4GB ) DDR3 1066Mhz ( 2x2GB )
    500GB ( 7200rpm ) Hard Disk SATA
NVidia Geforce GTX 280M 1024MB DDR3 Video PCI Express
    17,1 " WUXGA ( 1920x1200 ) Widescreen Extrabrite
DVD R/RW Dual Layer SATA ref9994556
    Intel 5300AGN Wireless
    Webcam 2.0Mpixels integrated
    Integrated Fingerprint

The problem that I have the fact is that I have installed Windows 7 ultimate, but the coming drivers with the easily Notebook are not useful for me,
You know where I can get windows's drivers 7 for the following components:

    - Intel 5300AGN Wireless
    - Fingerprint
    - Intel PM45 Chipset ICH9M
    -......................................
I need windows's drivers 7 for whole the M570TU's components.

Ahh! As the better Drivers are for the nVidia Geforce GTX 280M.

I seat it but my English is not very good, I am Spanish.

    Greetings and thanks for everything.

So later today, I will be the proud owner of a pre-owned Clevo M570TU (the older version, 5796 equivalent).

    The meaty stuff:
    T9400 (all stock, no OC)
    17" WUXGA
    User-upgraded Corsair brand 4GB RAM
1GB 9800M GTX (all stock, no OC)
250?GB HDD (whatever the cheapest, default option was)
    Fingerprint security (very cool option)

Now I have some concerns: On the Clevo website and on the M570TU service manual, they both list the GPU as being "MXM III" but from anothergeek's earlier post, he mentioned that the GTX 280M used in the M570TU/ETU is MXM 2.1 whereas the ones used in the D900F and the M980NU is MXM3.0 So what is the deal here? Is the GPU interface on the M570TU mobo (I have the older version, mind you) capable of MXM 3.0 support and they are (for whatever reason) just using the MXM 2.1 GTX 280M?

RJTech, the only place AFAIK that sells the GTX 280M by itself, specifically states that it is for the M570TU, leading me to conclude that they must be selling the MXM 2.1 cards. So is it possible to obtain a MXM 3.0 card? And how does performance differ between the two?

The other thing is I am tempted to upgrade the CPU from T9400 to the X9100 as well. Anyone in the market for an all-stock, no OC, T9400? :D :D

MXM 2.1 is not compatible with MXM 3.0, and vice versa. So the GTX 280M is probably the highest performance MXM 2.1 card to be released.

X9100 is a good CPU, you easily can overclock it in the BIOS to 3.5 ghz. It will probably set you back $300-400. Not sure if you'll be able to sell the T9400 easily, it's a mid range CPU by now, but at $100 would go quick I think.

    Welcome to the club ;)

MXM 2.1 is not the same as MXM II, and MXM 3.0 is not the same as MXM III

MXM 2.1 is the old standard with 4 different versions (I, II, III, IV) which are backwards compatible.

MXM 3.0 is the new standard (in D900F/M980NU) with 2 versions (A, B).

The 2 standards are not interchangeable

Bah! It looks like I was quite confused before. But thanks alot for clearing this up.

edit: also another thing is what tool-kit do any of you recommend for working on the laptop? The service manual lists M2, 2.5, 3 Philips, a small flat head, and a needle nose plier, but would something like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16899261003 work?
