I've got a QX9300 and I have no complaints about fan noise... that said, the P9700 is a nice CPU with good market value, and it will give maximum battery life. Only get the Q9000 if you plan on utilizing the four cores.
-
-
i have a q9000 and i love it. ok the q9000 is enemy of 3d 06 and vantage scores but in games the gtx 280m makes a great work, gameplay is smooth. my cpu load temps during stress test never go above 58°C and idle temps are in the 30 range. quads is futureproof, i don´t have any complaint so is your choice
-
Only complaint I got about the QX9300 is that it runs quite hot. Mine has reached 105 degrees several times, when all cores are loaded 100%.

How does build quality compare to the lenovo w700?
-

-
LCD screens were the close ... probably the same panel LG panels from what I saw.
comes down to some aesthetics... .W700 is streamline business, while the M570TU/ETU is a bit more sleek with different color trims.
speakers sucked on the .W700 .... even more so than the average notebook.
I did like the built in digitizer... if any one needed it.
M570ETU's fans are a bit louder... but their temps are good from it. -
it's too bad they don't specify what brand of memory/hd/etc they put in your notebook.
Im happy with what I got don't get me wrong, but it wouldve been nice to know.
That said I ordered my m570tu-2 based notebook (sager np5797) in the netherlands cause well I live there .
I got 320gb 7200 rpm hd -> Hitachi 7k320
The memory is from patriot (PSD32G10662S)
The screen is AU Optronics B170UW01 V0 (1900x1200) 17"
The optical drive is lite on (DS8A2S) based afaik
Does the US sager np5797 have the same internal organs, just something I wondered? -
but the other standard internal parts (RAM, HDD, Optical Drive, even LCD panel) is up to the OEM that is putting them together. -

However, I can only speak for North American vendors; some European vendors will try to lowball you. For example, Clevo.fr has sold M570TU's with C0 ES X9100's to some users on this forum. -
well I got the machine in my sig which is a xxodd (dutch clevo reseller), I see people posting their setup without the brand of hdd etc. was just wondering if all the clevo m570tu(-2) had the same brands inside of them, and if not how they compare to eachother.
The vendor I bought my notebook from didnt have much info on what brands they put in the machine, what dblock posted is about how my order sheet looked like; with no info on what brands were inside so I was curious how different vendors compare. -

I've looked around at various vendors, and just wanted to get a concrete answer.
Is this laptop available with a 1680x1050 panel and 280M?
If not, can any owner testify to the ability to game at 1920x1200?
Also, if you find gaming at this resolution isn't possible, how do games look when not run at the native resolution?
Thank you in advance! -
-
Ahh! Thank you =]
I don't suppose you'd be able to point me in the direction of a vendor that sells them with the 1680x1050 panel? I called Sager, and they said they didn't offer them anymore and that they were being phased out
Good to hear though that it'll run well if I can't find a lower res panel =] -
Why would you want to get a lower panel... just because you were afraid of playing games at a lower resolutions or because your eyesight cannot handle the WUXGA?
there is a huge misconception about gaming at non-native resolutions... the reason being that most people do not know jack about the aspect ratios when doing that... thats why they complain about the picture being stretched or what not.
as for eye-sight, you can always increase the font size in Windows to a larger DPI.
It seems that most of the Clevo importer OEMs only sell it with WUXGA panels... but if you really want the WSXGA+ you can check out:
- www.eurocom.com (overpriced... unless if you contact them to negotiate the price back down)
- or just buy a WSXGA+ panel (~$100) and do it yourself (pretty simple). -
Na, I'd actually rather have the 1920x1200 panel for normal work use, but I am concerned that it would be too high a resolution to run games as the frame rates I'm looking for.
As far as gaming at a non-native res, I know that using a lower res in the proper aspect ratio won't result in any stretching problems, but from what I understand it can introduce some input lag and look "fuzzy" (a general limitation with LCDs).
Thank you for the information though, I'll check out eurocom. =] -

1680 x 1050 is perfect for the NP5797 as it is. The screen is sharp and still a high res for images and work, but not too small for bad eyes. The additional sharpness 1920 x 1200 would provide for the games you can run at that res isn't really worth it, imo. Plus you have to consider the "fuzziness" when you have to lower the resolution to 1680 x 1050 to play the game (notably Crysis).

Hi everybody. I just thought I would introduce myself. I just bought a Sager 5797. Specs as follow:
Sager NP5797
- Operating System: Windows Vista Home Premium 64-Bit w/ Win7 Upgrade
- Primary Hard Drive: 320GB 7200RPM
- Optical Drive: 8X DVDąR / RW / 4X + Dual Layer Drive
- Ram: 4GB (4096MB) DDR3 1066MHz
- Video Card: nVidia GeForce GTX 280M 1,024MB
- Processor: Intel P8800 45nm "Montevina" Core 2 Duo 2.66 GHz
- Display: 17" WUXGA 1900x1200
Do you think I will be limited by my proc? (I had a budget to stick to so this was the first thing to be limited. I was hoping to upgrade to a quad in the future.)
What are good settings for the screen?
Would it a good idea to re-apply the thermal paste? It says that it comes with AS5 which is good stuff , but of course if they put ungodly amounts it becomes useless? Is OCZ freeze better?
Of those of you that got the blue ray player, how many times have you actually used it? I wanted it, but after I thought about it I realized that I would probably rarely use it. Only possibly if I got the burner for burning media. And even then so few people have blueray in their compys these days, no one besides myself would be able to do anything with the data. Personally i find media streaming and digital formats the way to go. Any opinions?
Thanks very much. And I hope to have a good time on the forum. -
A 1920 screen can display \ play games at lower resolution just fine.
I played warhammer and now LOTRO (dx10) at 1920 x 1200 at ultra high settings and everything about LOTRO is beautiful, to the point my non gamer wife commented that LOTRO is the best eye candy mmorpg she's seen me play. -
Hallo all, I'm new here as you can probably tell by the lack of sig etc but I've been reading these forums for I while.
After much lurking I plucked up the courage, not to mention the cash, to fork out for a Sager np5796 (second hand) and got it shipped from the states.
I'm using it now and it seems like a really nice machine, but I have a niggling problem. For some reason my up and down arrow keys don't seem to be working at all. I was wondering if anyone else had encountered this or knows of a fix as I'm a bit of a laptop newb. I have tried searching but didn't find a solution, apologies if it's already been discussed.
I'm guessing that I'm either going to have to check the keyboard connector or flash the BIOS. Am I right in thinking this?
Cheers folks. -

Well, it's time to upgrade. Tonight I just placed an order with Xotic PC for a 5797 with the Q9000, dumped the memory and HDD and getting some Kingston 4gb and a Seagate 500gb momentus with gshock. First time I worked with Justin, very responsive to my emails indeed.
It was tough choice between the ASUS W90 and the Sager but I ended up with the Sager. Man, I wish I could afford the Q9100 or higher quads but I'll just have to play the ebay game some years down the track when these cpus are more affordable.
Good stuff guys.

Just purchased VGA memory heatsinks for the GTX 280m. With additional passive cooling inside the system, I'm wanting to blow air through the case. I've found the perfect fan that fits, however there is nowhere to bring power to it. Any power source will do. any ideas?
-
^ Usb ?

Although that would require a fan which runs of 20V...Also there won't be any way of controlling the fan, unless you have a separate fan controller. But where on the laptop will you in that case place the fan controller... -
Thanks. -

Can anyone tell me how to turn off the Auto Brightness / Dimmer on the NP5797. I ride the train alot for 3+ hours at a time from NYC to Boston and back and keep running into the problem where my monitor either auto dims or brightens while on the train(depending on the time of day). I then have to manually brighten or dim the screen repeatedly. This is getting annoying and no one has been able to figure it out that has looked at my laptop including Justin at Xotic who I purchased both the NP5793(sold it to my nephew) and then the NP5797 from. I've gone into the power/Battery settings but don't see anything that addresses this specific issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I also had this same issue with the NP5793
-
I forgot to mention from post directly above that the brightening/dimming occurs while plugged in, not just on battery.
-
-
Yeah, I didn't even know this notebook had an autodimmer... sounds like you have a faulty screen or power connector?

There is no auto dimmer that I'm aware of. I know Win 7 has a dimming feature, but it dims on a time base.

Hey guys,
I've got a performance issue with my M570TU. Here are my system specs:
I've got a M570TU with:
T9400 2.53GHz processor
4GB of DDR3 ram
GeForce 9800M GT (latest drivers)
300GB 7200rpm drive
Windows Vista 64bit (fresh install)
I think those are the only important bits. It's also running a Samsung 2333 23" monitor, a set of Altec Lansing FX5051 USB speakers, and a USB mouse and keyboard. So quite a few peripherals I guess.
--------
I picked up Need for Speed - Hot Pursuit the other day and my system has been running it like a pig. It chugs constantly, even on the absolute lowest setting (we're talking 640x480 with no settings on). It has also been lagging during video playback as well - some online streams and some regular .avis and DVDs.
The fans are constantly spinning up on my laptop and running at full speed (even as I type this) so I'm wondering if maybe there is a heat issue and the laptop is not coping well? Maybe a dead fan?
Has anyone had any similar performance issues? I've formatted and reinstalled, updated all my drivers, unplugged all my peripherals, and still have the same sorry performance.
My power setting is on 'High Performance' as well.
Any thoughts? Thanks in advance... -
Ok so I tried reseating my keyboard by removing it completely and then reconnecting and it's had no effect on the up and down arrow keys not working. Any ideas what to try next? It was insured during shipping and apparently it wasn't an issue before so I'm tempted to take it to Kobalt computers, get it repaired and then just send UPS the repair bill...
*Edit: I've just discovered that after reseating the keyboard the up and down keys work in conjunction with another key (for example, with the function key as page up and page up) but they still don't do anything when pressed on their own. Seriousls confused :s -
Both my NP5793 and NP5797 would auto dim / brighten depending on the surrounding light. Both had XP Service Pack 3 installed. As they both have this issue I don't believe it is a monitor or any other hardware type issue. When it dims or brightens it shows up in the upper left corner just like hitting the function key with either F8 or F9(can't remember the specific keys as I am on a different pc right now. If you have a notebook try it under low light conditions and then to a bright condition and I bet the same thing will happen. The only thing I can think of is maybe the Camera above the monitor is somehow registering the light and then determining whether the monitor should get brighter or dimmer. Let me know what you guys think.
Thanks, -
halsed, when did you last clean the dust out of your laptop? If it full of dust and everything is overheating then its not gonna run well.
Download HWmonitor and have a look at the max temps after you game for a bit.
Also get a can of compressed air and at least blow it at the rear vents..with laptop off. -
Sigh, I have had the first problem with my m570tu. The dvdrom has stopped reading dvd's, a sure sign that the drive is dieing. BUT on a more positive note, R&J tech has already issued me a rma number for the bum drive and its on its way back to them. I just hope my replacement gets back before the lanparty I am going to next friday. Would look kinda silly to show off a rig with a missing optical drive. <crosses fingers>
-
you are supposed to do it monthly... or at least once every other month.
open up the bottom panel and have a look.
also, I really hope you are monitoring the temps.... that will definitely tell you.
just contact your vendor and ask them to cross ship you a new keyboard... so you won't need to send in your entire notebook. -
-
Thanks for the help - I removed the bottom panel and cleaned out the fans and vents with some compressed air and my system is running a lot smoother.
According to HWmonitor my temps aren't actually all that different, but the system seems to be running smoother and my game lags 95% less.
Thanks for the link to the heat tutorial - I'll have to give it a read and go from there.
Cheers. -
Did anyone get this for school and can you tell me a short review on it for school?
-
If you are just using it for school, I'd get something else. Either way, it would help if you could provide more information about what your needs are.
Personally, I would get something lighter for school.
