It is very likely the case.

Hm...that kinda sucks. But still, I want to try to update the BIOS of the card. Do you know where I can find the newest 8800M GTX Bios?
-
Try and ask for it on laptopvideo2go forums, they usually have it .
-
-
Everytime my laptop wakes up or I turn it back on I have to turn the Bluetooth back on with Fn+F12. The Bios doesn't seem very robust in the fact I couldn't find anywhere to enable it permanantly and I also can't find it in in the driver or anywhere else. Is it possible to make it turn on automatically?
-
Make sure the system is off. Not plugged into AC. Remove battery for precautions.
Its simple for Clevo keyboards. All you need is a basic (small) flat-head screwdriver.
There are 4-5 retractable plastic tabs holding down the keyboard.
Look at the picture that I have attached.
Just push the plastic pieces gently upward (toward the lcd screen) which would retract them to release that part of the keyboard. This should only take less than 30 seconds.
After the keyboard is released, you will find a cable under it (connects to motherboard), you can remove it if you want, just remember its position.
Thats it.

Anybody experiencing a problem that the 5797 cannot wake up from the standby? Randomly, when I try to wake it up from standby, the hard drive turns on, wifi, as numberpad lock light, as always, turn on. In a word, all lights turn on as it's normally on in the system. Screen is black tho, no response at all no matter I press what key, except for pressing and holding the power button to shut it off. Not everytime, but it happens randomly.
Anyone has this problem too? -
Yes, I have had that same problem a few times. Shutting down via the power button and rebooting always brings it back up.

Hey guys...new to this forum and a first time gaming computer user with some questions. I just ordered my Sager 5797 from Xoticpc...
1) I have heard alot of heating/fan noise problems. Any of you users have any solid tips for keeping all of this to a minimum and preventing it for the most part?
2) How easily upgradable is the hardware in this machine?
3) Overclocking...i play alot of MMO's with very little need of the best graphics utility...would it even be necessary to try to overclock the Nvidia 280 or a P9700 Duo Core at this point?
--Sorry if all of this has probably been posted a MILLION times already but there are about 51 pages of reading here lol...i'm pretty lazy. And there have been alot of upgrades to this model since the start of the thread. Any info/help is MUCH appreciated. Thanks. -

Okay, time for an update on my M570TU. Last night, I took a good look at my system to see how can I possibly mod this even further. And I did just that. I installed new copper blocks on my wireless card, RAM, and GPU heatsink.
This is the final revision to my heatsink overhaul. In total, all of the additional heatsinks adds 435g (0.959lbs) more mass to my machine.
My machine is seriously packing some weight now. It almost feels like my friend's D901C. But I didn't stop there. I have polished the entire inner casing to a mirror shine.
I also took the time to replace the thermal paste on my GPU. Here is a short visual guide for those who think they are putting too much paste.
This is what the GPU die and heatsink should look like after removal with the proper amount of paste previously applied. See how there is enough to cover the entire surface and that there is very little excess that squeezed out of the sides.
The GPU die and heatsink should be cleaned and sterilized.
This is the proper amount of thermal paste needed.

happy for you, i can boil water with mine soviet xD. i'm just waiting my new gpu, if that is fine i'll do all those coppermods on my laptop
by the way soviet, can you post the gpu temps during furmark xtreme burning mode? gaming and idle? thank you
what cooler are u using? -
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
I have already posted my temps here. http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=4868651&postcount=370
However, I have already changed my primary clocks to 620/1550/930 @ 1.05v and have been using them the week after I conducted the test. I need to find the time to sit down and do another Furmark test on these clocks, so don't expect any results anytime soon.
I am using the second edition of the Edova Xpad that I just picked up a few weeks ago. As for my NC2000, because I never used it to it's full capabilities, as in I never turned on the fans in the entire time it has been under my ownership, I gave it to my cousin in Los Angeles as he needs it more than I do. -

No. I only polished the inside casing. The black bottom would look ugly if I polished it. The aluminium lid top looks good already so I didn't touch it.

Unplug the power cord from your laptop for five seconds, then plug it back in. How long does the orange light stay lit after it turns on?
-

It sounds like your battery needs to be conditioned again.
-
I never heard this word "conditioned", what do I have to do again ? -
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
Discharge your battery to zero, then let it charge back to 100.
-
1: Clean your laptop for dust regularly, see 1 and 2.
2: Get a notebook cooler, I have Zalman NC2000 and I'm very pleased with it.
3: Undervolt your CPU
-
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
Shooting air into the heatsink fins isn't enough. Scrub out the heatsink fins with a toothbrush first.
Be careful with your terms. There is a big difference between undervolt and underclock. -
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
Finally, I have found the time to do another GPU stress test. This time, my GTX 280M is clocked at 620/1550/930 @ 1.05v. This test is identical to my last test but with a few exceptions. In my last test, I was running Vista Ultimate SP1 x64. This time I am running Seven x64 build 7232. My GPU has a more complete heatsink mod compared to last test. Also, I am using the Edova Xpad as opposed to the Zalman NC2000 (fans off).
Here is the link to my last test for reference. http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=4868651&postcount=370
Again, my GPU is clocked at 620/1550/930 @ 1.05v. The GPU is running on Dox 185.85 drivers. The laptop was sitting on top of an Edova Xpad. Ambient temperature was ~72*F. Furmark was configured for stability test in xtreme burning mode at full screen 1920x1200 with 4x MSAA and post-processing.
I began the test when the GPU core temperature rose to 37*C minutes after the GPU fan turned off at 34*C. For the duration of Furmark, the fans were in normal mode, not at maximum or silent mode. During the test, the temperature rose to 66*C fairly quickly and began to flatten out at 73-74*C at the 15 minute mark and flatlined at those temperatures at the 20 minute mark.
15 minutes.
20 minutes.
Compared to my last test, the graph shows that the temperatures would rise quite a bit when overvolted and mildly overclocked from 600/1500/900 @ 1v. However, a peak of 74*C after 20 minutes is still very cool and leaves plenty of room for more aggressive overclocking.
As a bonus, I have also conducted a CPU test of my QX9300 overclocked at 2.93GHz. The CPU test was done on two instances of Orthos for 20 minutes. The thermal paste was not changed when I took apart my laptop two days ago.

Thanks for the quick reply! I am incredibly excited for the computer now. I just ordered from XoticPC about a week ago (warranty sold me over) and now I'm just anxious to get any necessary items for it. I'll be sure to take great care of it...already saved the links you posted =)
As for coolers, I saw earlier that Soviet claimed they were using the Edova Xpad...I was looking into that. I'm a huge fan of clutter-free and organized work areas...this seems to be right up my alley. Does it really do the job though? Or is there something thin and light like the XPad, yet more effective? Any help is appreciated, thanks. -
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
The Xpad just raises the the laptop ~6.5mm allowing more airflow underneath. I bought it because it is extremely light and portable. It serves as a supplement to the machine rather than as a dependent. So essentially, my laptop's cooling is 100% self reliant.
If you want superior cooling, by all means go for the Zalman NC2000 or the NZXT Cryo LX. But if you only need something that would serve as a simple platform that would also supplement the laptop's cooling system, then go for a passive cooler such as the one I have.
If you want, later on today I can take a picture of the Xpad on the bottom of my laptop so that you get an idea of it's size. -
Does anyone know or use a tray that they can put under their laptop that is thin, light, and wide enough to fit a mouse pad on the right of the laptop? I like to take the laptop from room to room rather than keep on a table or desk. I'm thinking metal would be ideal since it can be thin and strong, yet light and I can put on my lap.
I currently use a shelf that I took off my shelving but it's almost 1 inch thick, wood, and heavy. -

Small update for anybody who wants a headstart on undervolting and overclocking their 9800M GTX or GTX 280M. All of the clocks below have been fully tested and are rock stable.
Extra: 620/1550/930 @ 1.05v
3D: 400/800/300 @ 0.75v
Throttle: 300/600/300 @ 0.7v
2D: 160/320/80 @ 0.7v -
For a lapboard i use a piece of 5/8" thick edge glued pine i picked up a 16" wide x 36" long for like 6 bucks at the local lumber yard. Its pretty light, and unlike metal wont radiate the heat of the laptop through to your legs.

Hi all, does anyone know of any software that can control the CPU fan speed of a Sager NP5797?
-
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
There are none.
-
Hey I'm going to buy this laptop pretty soon. How is the battery life with everything on low? You know one of those days where you want to take it to class to take notes or whatever. I'm going to be a science major so I won't need it too much in class, but may need it sometimes.
Also, is there detailed pictures of the silver trim and orange trim?
Thanks for the help guys.. -
On a P series CPU you should get around 2 hours.
-
I'd get 2 hours with the P9600 on silent mode and 100% brightness. QX9300 lasts about 100 minutes.
-
I have a weird issue when watching blu-ray movies where certain sounds seem "faint", as though they are in the background. Is there a BIOS update or sound driver update I don't know about?
-
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
Power management is set to high performance with the display brightness at 42%. My GTX 280M lower levels are undervolted, however my QX9300 is not.
I started off by grabbing a cup of coffee and sat at a table in the shade. Then I fired up my notebook at 14:40. I browsed around for about 15 minutes before opening up my word processor and began typing. Amazingly, I was able to hit 50% battery life at 16:00, meaning that it took 80 minutes to reach 50%. After I hit 50%, I saved my work and went home. If I kept on typing there for the duration of my battery, I believe that I would have seen close to 150 minutes of battery time on light work. And that battery time can be even longer if I undervolt the CPU. -
Thats amazing, thanks guys!
Know any links for the comparison of orange/silver trim? -

Which one should I pick between these 3 CPU's?
~Intel® T9600 45nm "Montevina" Core™2 Duo 2.8GHz w/6MB L2 On-die cache - 1066MHz FSB 35 watt ( + 130 )
~Intel® Q9000 45nm "Montevina" Core™2 Quad 2.0GHz w/6MB L2 On-die cache - 1066MHz FSB ( + 165 )
~Intel® P9700 45nm "Montevina" Core™2 Duo 2.8GHz w/6MB L2 On-die cache - 1066MHz FSB 25 watt
I know the Q9 is a quad, but seems like quad's aren't really that useful right now. I have a Q6600 in my desktop pc...
Is the P9700 better than the T9600? -
Soviet Sunrise Notebook Prophet
If you are deciding between the P9700 and the T9600, I would suggest ponying up $30 more for the P9700. The lower voltages of the P9700 keeps the temperatures lower than the T9600 during load, ultimately keeping the loud CPU fan from spinning even louder.
