Btw way. Good Luck carrying that tv to every room. Lol oh wait. You were about to say that you dont move the tv? Thats my point tv=desktop![]()

The display device is fixed to the room, as are the audio components, cables and network, but you move the laptop with the source around into and out of those spaces.
No desktop's needed

That's great I'm glad you like it, I'm not saying it's not awesome, it's just too noisy for me, that's all. There have been others reporting returning theirs due to fan noise, or putting in new fans to cure the noise problem, and requests from those that live with it day to day for fan noise reduction improvements from Clevo.
It's not a secret or a bad thing that it's really noisy, it's just a fact.
And, for the way I can drive my laptop, I'd push it into the "danger" zone for noise, as heard here:
And, I don't have an "axe to grind" for LGA machines, in fact it's only the noise factor that bothers me, I'm always pulled in by the performance, but then the reality of the noise I'd have to put up with when using it tempers my impulse to buy - and then I continue to wait until the noise problem gets solved.Last edited: Jan 20, 2017 -
So you say it is fixed to the room. So might as well just fix a pc to it and call it a complete set. I think you are confusing the purpose of this laptop. You provably need to by a mac.

So far my only complain about this laptop is that it runs on 8x pci-e 3
. I dont think you will see a difference on game. But my 3DMark only give me around 23000 and I read that you can get 29000 on desktop. It also restrict future updates where the card can use the whole 16x pci-e 3. I dont do video rendering or anything like that so I dont know if you get lower performances too. (GPU runinh at 2025)

Comparing a machine that doesn't pull as hard to a more extreme machine, to then say it's quieter isn't an accurate comparison.
A major part of the 'fan is loud' issue is Clevo heatsinks are hit or miss and / or people installing XTU and it goofing up the EC and fan behavior. Clevo goofed good here, that's factual and indefensible. They should make it their priority to fix that, I'm very vocal about that.
But machines that have a a good heatsink and haven't been affected by the XTU bug aren't any louder by any metric than any other machine pulling similar numbers.
It's inaccurate to conflate the two.hmscott likes this. -
I have the single gpu version. Anyone else has the sigle 1080? And if you do, what are you firestrike scores? Whole system and GPU. I dont remember the whole system I think was close to 1700 but the gpu was giving mids 23000.

Actually, now that you mention it, in your video it looked to me like your GPU's weren't running at full performance - but were still running hot, and it occurred to me you have G-sync running at 120hz.
That's part of the detuning I was talking about, running open with no limits those fans would have been singing, but with the limit of G-sync keeping the FPS down from maximum, you don't need the desktop CPU nor the Dual 1080's to feed that game - it's not a good load for a noise demo - too tame.
My point is that the GT73VR 1080 that @Phoenix bought, or a GT83VR 1080 SLI running the same game would be a quieter experience, less VVVVOOOOOOOMMMMM WHOOOOSH with deep bass undertones of maddening power yet to be unleased, and more subdued.
And, the further point is I won't get a laptop that makes those noises, why would I want to do that? I'd get a laptop that doesn't make those noises and instead gives me the performance I need in peace and quiet.
Now, I am not such a fan of the GT83VR Skylake 1080 SLI - also too noisy, I'm hoping MSI did some tuning to the cooling and tamed it a bit in the Kabylake + Roller Disco Keyboard model as well, but if not - then the GT73VR 1080 is still the sweet spot to get with great performance, a great screen, with so much less cooling noise.

Max of 63 degree's on the GPU and you call that running hot? Dude - just stop.
Why would buy a Gsync machine to only switch it off in gaming? It's not a benchmark run.Spartan@HIDevolution and hmscott like this. -

I love the P870DM3, nothing hardware wise comes close, but I type a LOT on my PC creating user guides, handling the software updates both here and for majorgeeks.com and I cannot for thel ife of me type one sentence without making 10s of mistakes dispite me being someone who types 85+ WPM blind folded. The keys on the clevo P870DM/2/3 and P775DM/2/3 are very cramped making me miss a key or mistype it every single time
See:
Clevo makes the worst laptop keyboard EVER!
So I went for the MSI GT73VR because it has an awesome keyboard and decent specs even if it's BGAi_pk_pjers_i and Void364 like this. -
Graphics score 23200

If the keyboard is such a dealbreaker why not go for the GT83? The mechanical keyboard is great.

IDK, 88c CPU and 64c GPU while only gaming a couple of minutes is hot to me.
Trying to claim the laptops high performance cooling noise is represented by a G-sync limited 2 minute gaming run is the problem
And, I thought global V-sync on would limit FPS to 120, and not allow it to creep up to 124 or higher... maybe check the NVCP setting to make sure it is on - when off it plays havoc with G-sync performance.Last edited: Jan 20, 2017 -

How I said I dont heard then with the headphones. Im enthusiast. I need power. Even under wprime it does not break the 60s and the overclock is not that high 4.4, waiting to delied to go higher since game performances was less than 1% in games. And temps went up by 15-20

I will do one on auto next and see the differences.

Soooo, that's a yes on the Fn+1 Full Fan mode for benchmarking?
Again, I'm happy your happy, but that kind of high noise generated with Fn+1 wouldn't be fun for me.
That's the point I was making when I said jokingly that @Phoenix has come over to the "Quiet Side" of the "Force".
It's quieter - the GT73VR, quieter than the P870DM2/3 which is on the "Noisy Side" of the "Force"

Sorry to hear that you're giving up on the machine, @Phoenix

Ok I have results. Of automatic fan average cpu temps 72 (4.4 overclock) max 85.k
On overclock fan profile avg. 58 max 65 didnt take pics since u want the quietest one. On auto max gpu temps were 74 and noise almost 0. Cpu is overclocked so U sould not be surprise with the 80

BTW, my P771ZM's name is approved by @Mr. Fox so dik what you guys think

No, it's the fact that you said you were buying ASUS (BGA trash) but your laptop is named the BGA Turd Dozer and you are appalled at Phoenix getting a MSI xDPapusan and Spartan@HIDevolution like this.

Lol So why wait until now to say that's your problem?
I thought GSync and 'low GPU usage' was the problem. Move the goal post a little to left please...
The burden of proof is on you to back up your hyperbole claims. No me. Have fun with that.

I ****llllooooove**** headphones, walk around with BT's on all the time, wired at home and when out and about, work, public places, car - hands-free, night-time, quiet time, but....
When I am listening to Speakers, Watching Movies, and when I need to "air out" my ears (anti-mushroom time), I need "quiet" laptop time.
You can't expect headphones to be worn when using a laptop, it's just not what most people do. It may end up being what people are gradually coerced into doing, not by choice, but by *noise*.Papusan likes this. -
So those aren't bad temps, and less noisy, same scores / FPS?
Usually when I go to 100% fans for 5-10 minutes before running a benchmark, that gets the temperature floor really low and so heat doesn't build up as fast, plus on 100% fans it slows down the build up of heat during the benchmark run.
100% fans are the way to go to get the best benchmark numbers
But, the rest of the time, shhhh, quiet!

No laptops with proper internals are silent
If You need "quiet" laptop time... Forget laptops with the best and most powerful hardware for relaxation. Welcome to BGA world with CHEAP BGA TRASH hardware and passive cooling. Or Maybe a tablet?
The kids today have already damaged hearing before they are 16-18. I am +50 and have never exposed my ears for noise in headphones. Noise in the headphones is just as devastating as a laptop with a little noise
hmscott likes this. -
See you are catching on
If hearing loss is bad, and LGA laptops are really noisy, then...
If you are numbing your hearing by having loud environmental sound, then you are more apt to "turn it up" while wearing headphones, so not really protecting your ears - more like focusing the damage.
Have you ever noticed how darned loud the speaker sound is turned up on LGA laptop gaming videos? Damn....
As you reduce the noise floor overall, your ears will recover, and you will find that you don't need to turn up the volume quite so high while wearing headphones.
And, if one needs further incentive, turning down the volume on your headphones will save battery power for the headphones and source device, win win win
-
If you are sensitive to noise isn't a laptop with the most powerful hardware (BGA TRASH, or the much more desirable socket hardware) an option!! Choose either to go for a walk with your beloved wife, your dog (or both if you want
), a low powered cheap jokebook, read or sleep
-
Reading's nice, I do that on my laptop, phone, tablet, books, nice and quiet.
I haven't found any high CPU / GPU demanding "reading" benchmarks to run...
Dogs are kinda noisy too, they don't really have volume controls either, well, food maybe, pet's, brushy brushy.
BTW, do you turn off your computer / laptop when sleeping to quiet down the room so you can rest better?Papusan likes this. -
I don't use any computer in the bedroom. Have wife

LOL. The wife and I have used a noise machine for 15+ yrs ( https://www.amazon.com/Marpac-Dohm-DS-All-Natural-White-Machine/dp/B000KUHFGM). So, if we get the house to mid 60s F, it feels like I get to spend my nights in a data center too.
Wonder if I could convince her we need a new one since the one we use is rather old... a new one might be a bit bulkier, rectangular in shape... I think it has a model #P870KM1.

or leave it on max if something is running and put it on top part of the bed next to my head put a headphone until I fall to sleep and then (while sleeping) take then off. Yes. Like a dog I trained my self
thats what the army does to u lol. If you see where I have to sleep sometimes you will understand
