The core 870 looks pretty sick. The lower TDP allowed for a good increase in turbo clocks, plus the feature was improved on. You can now have a quad core with the clocks of a dual core, and that's a big step forward. The TDP is the same as the Q9650, it sounds feasible to fit it in the D901c
Base clocks may be low, but the mobile i7's have a very low TDP, so Turbo is key. Utilizing only 1-3 cores, they'll be overclocked from 2ghz, up to 3.2ghz. They're looking like a step forward from Montevina, even the QX9300. If they were going to make the M980 no matter what, they should have waited for the mobile i7... and the D900f should have been a D901c with P55 and MXM 3.0.

dell is offering the new mobiles...not sure on all their details, but that's who i was going off of.

hey guys, just checkin in here with 9262. had it for over a year now. love it, however recently I m getting a bit higher temps then usual. I m getting 75C on GPU while playing resident Evil 5. 73C when playing NFS Shift. my 9262 never got such high temps before. Only Crysis could reach such temps but not any other game. With FN+1 and full speed fans all stays in teh 60-ish are. DO you think re-applying AS5 would help?

There's alot of dust that goes in the system. You have to pull it apart and give it a good cleaning.... I did this with my np9262. it was very dusty.

And you left it the dust and went Benedict Arnold.

I have some pictures when I was cleaning it out. It was really dirty.

dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
yeah there was alot of dust. i wasn't even expecting it. i just pulled it apart cause i wanted to see the design and if there was any way to improve cooling. but there wasn't
there was one part that could of been improved but it wasn't worth the trouble. -

One of my old dorm buddies modded his D901C after he saw what I did to my M570TU. It's a tight squeeze, but there are some potential places to put low clearance heatsinks in there. But since you're no longer KGB, that info is classified.

dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
what's KGB????
i wasn't in on this when i had one. -

It seems that you have forgotten. http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=5184203&postcount=2784
That was the public disclosure of the KGB. -

Your fine.

thank you Dondadah
mind if i ask couple questions, im pretty new to laptops. just jumped from my old desktop (which was like my favorite lego)
where would i find the port for the miniPCI tv tuner? i'm pretty sure this one doesnt have it and would like to add one if thats the case.
Couple days ago i opened the big bay (cpu, gpus, memory, etc etc) for some dust cleaning and i dont seem to see any minipci open.
any leads? -
yes it has one..it's underneath the keyboard.
-
u sure?
so i gotta open from the other side?
also, the user manual only mentions like 3 different models of tv tuners that i guess u could order with the laptop back when they were selling it.
however i been looking everywhere for them and nada, not even ebay.
should any minipci tv tuner be compatible? ive seen a couple from avermedia (which they mention in the user manual) however these are newer models.
thx for the info Johnkss -
yes, they should. back when i tried to get one for mine....they only had overseas types, so i never added one.

ok guys after some research in my quest for good upgrades i found 2 options i like both quad.
1. is to OC my current Q6600 with the tape mod (as shown in here http://forums.nvidia.com/lofiversion/index.php?t58361.html)
as proven by many including the guy in this post ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=237829&highlight=tape+mod) it works fine.
2. upgrade to Q9650, will get same as overclock but will be able to sleep at night. as shown by this guy in this post ( http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=379910) my system should be compatible.
Apparently to handle any of this i need the system to be able to handle 1333mhz FSB. in one post a guy called Sager and they asked him if his revision was 5.2+, that he should find that info in his ram memory slots in a sticker. i did. here it is:
also said Sager then "sent him" a .20 BIOS. that i am PRETTY SURE i don't have. my Motherboard has some stickers that says "NOV 07" and most likely this BIOS has never been flashed. dont know exactly which version it is but here is the boot screen:
now after some HEAVY research within the forums, google, beating some people in the streets, torturing some... i find nothing about current location for latest BIOS. Nada at all!
not @ clevo site, not @ sager site, not in any site.
sooo to make this short... anyone have any leads on latest BIOS? -
Also Johnkss i tried opening the upper part of the laptop and it seemed a tough duty. took of the 12 screws holding the faceplate yet it would only come out at the corners and some parts it seemed like if i tried any harder i would force it, no way im doing that.
if anyone knows of any tricks and secret screws i need to know so i can see under the keyboard plz let me know. thx in advance again
EDIT!
NVM, after more research i found some guy with a signature that had all of clevo's service manual... thats just... GOLD! -
Glad I could help
-
aaaawwwesome, yeah sorry i couldnt mention u Theriko.
that signature its gold. i should download all of those manuals, one never knows when rapidshare will do something stupid. -
So I never found the answer and maybe someone now knows.
I have a older D900C with the 7950gtx's and 1066fsb socket, is the wolfdale CPU supported? The ones with 1066fsb? I think its a 45nm core and the supported Conroe ones are 64nm so I'm not sure.. Bios update maybe? It would be a cheap upgrade to get a 3.06ghz cpu for only $130.
Also I am adding a second 7950gtx to my D9C, does anyone have any extra GPU and heatsink screws I can buy and the SLi cable? If not I'm just going to get it from rjtech.com
Thanks. -
any d901c owners know the type of ram in our machines? speed/pin size/etc...
it costs 350 to go through xotic for a 8gb upgrade, are there any cheaper sources? i've tried everything to find the exact type, cpu-z, numerous online ram type finders... minus opening up the computer and checking there
desperately need the upgrade... rendering's suffering and maxing out at 4gb ram, would be great to have more -

If you are using a Windows 64bit OS you will only be able to address about 6.8GB regardless of how much you put in it.
It takes DDR2/800MHz 200-pin SODIMM (not DIMM) memory.
As for pricing... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...381 1052910525 1309221140 1309139889&name=4GB -
i use 64bit Win.
think there would be any issue if i keep one of my 2gb current ram and get one of those hot looking 4gb ones u just posted for a 6gb total? -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
That will work just fine, and you will be able to not only "see" but also address and use virtually all of the 6GB.
-
kk, that i'll do then.
also for the future, if 32bit only gives me 3.8 and 64bit 6.8. is there any win OS that will give me the full 8gb? -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
No Windows OS will give you 8GB on your NP9261. I just noticed from your signature that you have the NP9261 so your answer is different from satch420's who has an NP9262. Yours uses DDR2/667MHz 200-pin SODIMM memory.
If you were to use VMWare, and have for example 4 virtual machines using 2GB each, you could use all 8GB...but not all 8 GB on any of the individual virtual machines. -
i swear to god its running with 800mhz, at least the current ones.
i have opened my lego machine and seen em myself, 800mhz it is.
or you mean if i get a 4gb ram it has to be 667? -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
No problem, if you are running 800MHz then stay with it.
-
ehhh.. no answers for me? lol oh well.
But I still need the GPU mounting screws, rjtech doesn't sell them and I don't know who does. -
checked internet a while and couldn't find 'em Anassa.
hmmm... i say remove one from the gpu that is already installed and take it as a sample to your local electronic shop.
has worked for me a good amount of times. -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
check eurucom. that's where i was going to order my parts from.
-
Then anyone know the motherboard versions and what it supports. There is a D901C motherboard on ebay and it says its version 6.2
http://cgi.ebay.com/SAGER-NP9262-PR...ov05?hash=item2a010a427f&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14
Anyone know what CPU/GPU that is compatible with? -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate
call them. that's what i had to do. they don't just put stuff up on there if it doesn't sell like normal items like laptops, batteries, etc.
-
well i am @ 5.2 revision so i'm 9261.
that one @ Ebay is for sure 9262
so for GPU it has full compatibility with 8800m in SLI which is pretty good. Should also be compatible with 9800 gtx also dual.
Not completely sure about the GTX 280 ones. i think u could only place 1 card of those in it. but that aint a fact at least said by me.
can anyone confirm? -
My problem could be resolved.. i think i got myself a D901C (9262) with a e8600 (3.3ghz 1333fsb 6mb cache etc) for a cheaper price then me upgrading to it. LOL!!! That means I will be selling my D900C soon. It has 1920x1200 res, dual 7950gtx in sli, e6600 (2.4ghz 1066fsb 4mb cache etc) 200gb 7200rpm 4gb RAM.. in case anyone wants to call dibs.
That's all from me for now.
Peace! -

now that we talking bout upgrades and stuff.
anyone has some knowledge about minipci tvtuner?
i've seen a couple @ ebay. already know i need mini-pci instead of mini-pciE.
what i'm most curious about right now is about remote control. these models of laptop are supposed to have a internatl reciever for them.
what i wanna know is, can i get any RC? or it has to have some sort of compatibility with the tvtuner card? -
It would be interesting to know that upgrading to a 280m in a D901C as a eventual option. -
Hey guys! It's been a while since I posted on here. Been busy enjoying my notebook ;-)
Honestly I'm a bit skeptical about the jump from D901C to D900F. Chances are Clevo did a motherboard revision somewhere, like the jump from 9261 -> 9262. I'm sure the card will slot in just fine, if it's the correct MXM standard, but the locked BIOS issue remains, which if i remember correctly was the reason why the 9261 wasn't upgreadable.
Sanitphilippe, if i were you, I'd look into some usb tv tuners and keep the minipci slot for eSATA. As for the RC, most "aftermarket" ones nowadays work with almost any set. The thing is, I know this is true for TV recievers, not for tv cards. suggestion is: buy one, try it, if it doesn't work return it. -
I just bought a Quadro FX 3700M for my 9262 and that card doesn't have an SLi connector. I bought it for use with 3ds max, et al. So your post definately has me intrigued.
Thanks in advance! -
anddddd now my laptop lcd screen doesnt work! it works through the bios and raid settings, then i hear a BEEP then vista starts loading... and the screen goes out, and my second monitor goes on...
so it seems it doesn't see my laptop display!(?) its using my 2nd monitor as a primary display and no option for my laptop display...
anyone have any suggestions??? i have GPU-Z and it seems the 2700m, the driver, all the settings... but i cant use my main display...
perhaps i jogged something?
thanks in advance... any advice would be appreciated, studio's moving at full speed and into overdrive already so don't have much time to lose...
on a side note--- is there any advantage installing my old quadro fx 1600m into the other VGA slot?? i know they are not SLI compatible but would there be any advantage? -
-
And if you want something to be jealous of, check out my next project:
2 dedicated render nodes consisting of:
2x Supermicro CSE-512L-260 1U cases
2x Supermicro X8DTL-iF Dual LGA1366 Motherboards
4x Intel Core i7 920 2.66GHz LGA 1366 Quad-Core Processors
16 GB DDR2 Ram
Will eat through my renders like a hot knife through butter. If it works well, I will make 4 more of them, giving me 48 cores (96 processing threads) of i7 nehalem power! Yeah baby. -
Hello,
I've got a Sager 9262 (V6.2 December 2008) that has a Q9550. Yesterday evening I upgraded the BIOS from v1.00.20 to v1.00.22, and KBC BIOS from v1.00.12 to v1.00.13. The upgrade was successful and I was able to install Windows 7 and use it for 1 day.
Tonight I decided to clean up the filters and attempt to replace the Q9550 by a Q9650. But so far no luck. Now the system won't power up. I hear the tick of the DVD writer, I see the blue power light, the Green Power led that the system is up, but the system won't post, and the three ventilators on the CPU, CPU Cooler and Graphic card (FX3700M) won't spin-up. I'm sure that I took precautions handling the laptop, that I re-plugged nor bent the cables to the ventilators.
I'm a bit at a loss here... Any pointers are welcome... such as is there a BIOS reset switch ? -
does it work with your og cpu?
-
I moved back to the Q9550, but that one doesn't post either :-(
