thank you for your comparsion. i also have a 8600m gs and went to ati because of that(3870x2 whitebook) but going to my np9262 is wonderful. i love the fn+1 feature. i can't get over that.

but the weight of the lcd is heavy so i have to bu hinges for it. i have 3 dead pixels. :( but there not that noticeable. only in black light. the 9800m gtx is an overclocking beast. but i have one card for now. i'm waiting for the second one to do sli.

i was looking at the w90 because it seemed like a price/performance warrior. and i was on newegg on the add to cart for about 5 days but i said no because i didn't want to send my manchine in and by the way the mobo's and the gpu's was going, i can't buy it. but it still loooks like a great machine.

yes the intel 775 cpu was a big plus for me getting this system. and i'm glad i did.

as for the touch pad, i can say it does get hot but the bottom of the system also.

one con that i have to say is the speakers could be better.

My touchpad doesn't get hot. It heats up and gets warm but I wouldn't call it hot and never uncomfortable.

What happened to your LCD? I haven't had any issues with mine. Hinges are still very tight and screen stays where ever I move it to.

i'm not to sure about the lcd. when I lad protoype it turns white sometimes.. but when I at tab it windows is fine and then i'm good. I dn't know if it is he game or what I wll wait to see what happens.

I am going to by new hinges for my notebook. (thank god the np9280 uses the same chassis so it's easy to get parts.)

that's a big 10/4 negative on that one.
and i even tried to over clock a qx6800/1066/2.93 up to 3.5ghz/1333....and it got to the boot screen but then would fade out. i was just talking to dadah about that and i think what i forgot to do at the time was pin mod the voltage up. if i would have done that...i now suspect that it would have ran....dammmn!! what was i thinking!!!!!!!!!!!!!! grrrrrrrrrrrrr

lol... we all make mastakes! :p
I know you tried... just wanted to see if anyone was remotely close to successful in their attempts.

By the way John, I am getting the W90 back tomorrow, supposedly with the new revision of the 4870s. Just going to do a direct comparison see what this 9262 can do against the competition. (also to see if the W90 actually works.)

well it hasn't happened it a while so it's cool now.

but i'm trying to see if the qx6800 is going to be worth it. i would like to try it but i don't want to be stuck with it and it doesn't work.

plus there was a test on the qx6800 vs the qx9650 and the qx9650 won but thats at stock
    [email protected] ghz 1333fsb 12mb cache 45mm
    [email protected] 1066fsb 2x4mb cache 65mm

but if it were stock, then overclocking it would lead to better performance.

i wonder if it will work. and how it stacks up to the x3380. time to look for benchmarks. if anyone finds any let me know

hummm, i still have access to that chip, bu i would need to know the voltage requirement and pin mod info. i seriously think that would have worked out, but older chips require more voltage and at 3.5 ghz up'd to a 1333 mhz bus..was past it's voltage table. hummmmm...wow! im just sitting here thinking....dammn. orion might not have gotten that had i seriously tried that and it worked....lol

i did find the pll. me and the guy at setfsb worked for 2 days str8 trying to get it to work, but in the end...gave up. i think i still have the version he sent me, but would have to look around.

It was noted in the W90 thread that Aero is causing the graphics issues with the W90... which kind of sux... $2500 for a system that cant handle aero...

Anyway, when I get home from work, I will flash the GPUs so i can drop 9.4 on there, and then give you the results... or maybe I should just drop the 9.6 drivers on there since it only works with one card anyway.

I would advise against any higher laptop/computer purchase for a few more months, or maybe 1 year.
At the begining of 2010 there are supposed to come up computers with USB 3.0 (10xUSB 2.0), PCI Express 3.0 (2x PCI Express 2.0) and SATA 6Gb/s (2x SATA 3Gb/s). There is also the prospect of Nvidia 300 series (mobile version maybe in Fall 2010) with DirectX 11.
Therefore, almost everything will double in terms of bandwidth and performance in a computer.

I just bought my D901C, against the above mentioned reasons, just because my old laptop was still a PIII Inspiron 5000e :(

To use USB 3.0 you will need USB 3.0 compatible devices and that's another at least half a year?

How many laptop devices max out PCIe 2.0 bandwidth?? None? What's the point of PCIe 3.0 in laptop than?

SATA 6Gb/s HDDs. How viable real world speed improvement over SATA 3Gb/s considering the price factor is gonna be for them? How long will you have to wait 'till the price drops?

Nvidia 200 series performance pretty much covers each and every game out there right now. Do you know any particular "coming soon" title that will require 300 series cards?

But granted you get all of that technology out there. When do you think the first laptop utilizing all of it comes out? 2 years from now?

Congrats on getting an awesome laptop and I'm sure you'll not regret getting it now. ;)

This is about the "future proofness" of your purchase that everybody says is a myth. When did anybody saw 5 standards/architectural changes coming in the same year, e.g. 2010 in this case? They usually come one at time and they usually do not change that often. For example, USB 2.0 was introduced in 2001/2002, which is more than 7 years ago.

It doesn't matter that the bandwidth is not maxed out when you buy it. It doesn't matter that there is no selection of SATA 6Gb/s drives or USB 3.0 devices, yet. If you have that capability, you can always make those EASY upgrades that do not require you to buy another computer.

Just in case you are sceptical:
    http://news.softpedia.com/news/ASUS...-USB-3-0-SATA-6Gb-s-Connectivity-117175.shtml

Also, Intel have already confirmed that it was pressured by the computer manufacturers to delay its mobile Nehalem chips because they need to clear their inventories with the current generation of CPUs.
Therefore, all the current laptop purchases are really just clearances without the corresponding price deduction:
    http://arstechnica.com/hardware/2009/02/intel-to-appease-those-s-with-calpella-delay.ars

Just to clarify, USB 3.0, such as SATA 6Gb/s and PCI Express 3.0 controllers will be backward compatible, e.g. they will work with your existing devices until you will decide to upgrade.

Also, there is no real high-end 200 mobile card. I think that only 250M GTS and 260M GTS are based on the Nvidia 200 architecture, but they are midsize cards.
And yes, there are a lot of game companies that are already developing DirectX 11 games:

Anyone knows how to read your CPU thermals?
I just want to make sure if I really have a Q9550S or just a Q9550 in my laptop,
but CPU-Z does not make a difference between them, e.g. same name, specification, technology, model, stepping and revision.

Some benchmarks with Q9550S/Q9550 and Quadro FX 3700M (all stock):

    - 3DMark05 w/o Physx: 16979
    - 3DMark05 with Physx: 17129
    - 3DMark06 w/o Physx: 12611
    - 3DMark06 with Physx: 12564

How are these compared to one 9800M GTX system?

    Hi!!!
I am new in the FORUM.
I have Clevo D901C and yesterday I update the BIOS and install FX 3700M video card. After the reboot I have a black screen but the system is running because after some seconds I heared the Skype sound.
Restart it a few times but it's the same.
Then I plug -ed in the external Monitor and everything was OK. But on the LCD nothing. Next I changed the video card with the old one and the Laptop LCD was OK. Now I am with the FX3700M and use the external monitor.
I would like to know If anyone know how to fix the problem?
I'll be very grateful if someone help. Thank You in advance.

Which BIOS revision do you have? It should be at least newer than August 14-th when FX 3700M was launched. Mine is 24 Sept 2008 I think and it works ok with the 3700M.

The above results are from XP Pro 32-bit using a single FX 3700M card. 3700M´s do not come with SLI capability (they do not have a SLI connector).
In the Windows 7 RC 64-bit the results are lower (maximum 12k) and I don't know if they are compatible with the Vista 64-bit results.

I will post them but I do not know very well how to benchmark: what should be the monitor resolution (native 1920x1200 or the benchmark resolution of 1280x1024), monitor scaling (Nvidia/application/ratio), coloring scheme (16-bit or 32-bit). These settings seem to have some marginal effects but still.

Did you try GPU-Z to get the information about the card? Just to make sure it is a Clevo card and therefore compatible with D901C.

We could try comparing the card bioses to see if there are any differences. I know it is not that hard to save the video BIOS with a Nvidia tool (I forgot which one).

Because of this, it seems that you do not have a FX 3700M BIOS because the date 07/17/2008, and consequently yours, precedes the date of the availability of 3700M which is Aug 12-14 2008. It's more like a 9800(M) GTX BIOS.

Yes, you can update your vBios, with Nvidia Flash tool.
However, you will need to boot in DOS mode using a diskette or USB stick in order to be able to flash the new video card bios.
You will have to ask your reseller about the updated vBios I think.

An example of usage with nvidia flash is how to save your vBios before flashing:
    nvflash.exe --index=ask --log=nvflash_save.log --save save_current_bios.nvr

The nvidia flash zip file will include a small user guide.

A guide of how to flash your system or video BIOS can be found here:

Something tells me Clevo could have skipped the D900F and M980nu, and properly developed the D901c into the P55 chipset with LGA1156 socket and Sli still support intact... perhaps next year!

    You mean "almost" here :)

But the LGA1156 is here...and that can go in the D901 shell. We'll have to wait to see what develops.
