Hello
I am a new proud owner of D901C 2x9800mGTX 4GB and have some problems with the bios in raid mode. (on AHCI all is OK) My 2 OCZ 60GB vertex will only - after a long wait (about 4 minutes) - detected, then I can e.g. RAID0 configuration (i want to create a RAID0!).
But on every activity on the HDDs again (e.g. save RAID config), i must wait. Also at every boot.
Im very angry, give 4000 euros for a Laptop with an controller bios dated 2006! (ich8r wRAID5 6.0.0.1002)!
Other HDDs (e.g. my 3x Samsung HM500LI) will work - but i want SSDs!
When is a new bios update from CLEVO available, so that new HDDs and SSDs be recognized properly? Or is my D901C faulty? someone has a tip?
Excuse my bad english :-(
Thanks

New owner here too, reporting in hehe. Just bought it a few weeks ago from xoticpc.com(a recommended retailer for sager):
Spec:
D900C
CPU:[email protected]
GPU:9800m gtx sli
Mem:4gig ddr2
Os:Vista Ultimate 32bit
3dmark score with everything on stock at 14155, seems to be lower than expected though. -
-
can you post the break down of the 3dmark score.
2.0
3.0

Dude, i'm interested to buy D901C barebone from RJtech. Few questions though:
1. There's option for a USB TV Tuner. Do we get actual "USB Dongle" TV Tuner or internal one? And do we get the antenna as well?
2. Anyone here ever tried the Kingston HyperX DDR2-800 CL4-4-4-12 SODIMM?
(I know the last question kind of out of topic, but i couldn't resist
Any help will be appreciated. Thank you. -
usb is usb, you can however get the internal one since your not in the states. it seems that they have the out of country internal version...and since im in the states, i can't use that version so didn't bother getting it.
nope, haven't tried that memory yet. -
I've seen the upcoming Clevo M980NU and D900F.
IMHO the D901C hardware layout is better and easier to upgrade.
Anyway, is there gonna be ATI 4800 series or Nvidia 200 series card for D901C?
Just want to know how far this beast can be upgraded. -
and where did you see the hardware layout of the d900f to compare the d901c to?
-
i left that one alone. no one has seen the inside of the d900f, as of today.
-
That's what I thought
-
I saw the M980NU specs and hardware layout.
And I saw D900F specs too.
But i prefer D901C because:
-It got better H/W layout than M980NU (you have to open the M980NU keyboard to upgrade RAM).
-For me, M980NU and D900F is overkill (i don't need that much power).
-And the D901C price hopefully will drop after the new models released.
sorry for the confussion. -
well...right now..the m980nu is looking like the the better buy.
it's on a mobile platform
has 3 gpu's
3 hard drives
18.4 screen
hdmi
dvi
esata
4 usb ports
and if it has over clocking...im there!
and just how many times do you think your going to be switching memory?? -
besides, taking the keyboard out is even easier than taking the bottom plate off.
-
yep, bottom plate has about 10 screws in it
-
but still, D901C have 4 cooler = CPU, 2x GPU, and RAM
Btw, you said M980NU have 3xGPU? IIRC, it doesnt.
You mean 3x DDR3 Slots perhaps? -
-
where's the 3rd GPU?
The left corner is for CPU, the right corner is for GPU#1, next to it is for GPU#2 (which is empty), the rest of the space is not enough to put another GPU.
Beside, I read the article and notebookcheck.net clearly wrote it support 2x GPU and 3x HDD. not 3x GPU and 3x HDD. -
Here you go.
http://www.nvidia.com/object/product_geforce_9400m_g_us.html
Technically it's 2 discrete GPUs and 1 integrated GPU, thus a total of 3 GPUs. -
dont you see where it says slave right next to the master gpu that is sitting in there already. they we're only given one gpu for the test model. so that means they had one onboard gpu and one gtx280m addon card
looks like you missed this part in your readings...
from notebookcheck.com
The reviewed pre-sample only came with 2 gigabyte RAM. But, fast DDR2 memory modules (PC3-8500F) were used. Up to now, there is no information available about the maximum supported RAM capacity. Because the Geforce 9400m chip set is used you can assume that the limit is 8GB. -
-
ok, ill go for that.
but that was one of the first things that caught my attention..i was thinking tri-way sli..lmao! then they said...nope hybrid sli or regular sli, but not 3 way.. -
I'm pretty sure the X305 was the same. -
i think they we're a bit over zealous with the tri sll reporting...even nvidia said it can't be ran at the same time in tri mode. but yet all around the net. it has 3 way, till the real news set it in. no 3 way. and i think that laptop done fell off already..4k and it wasn't even beating one 9800m gtx (speculation of course) .lol
-
@dtwn & john
owh, you counted the integrated GPU too. i though you're just referring to the GPU Cards which ofcourse can only fit 2 cards.
so i guess majority of D901C users will upgrade to M980NU instead of D900F, eh? -
-
@ xor01, I won't be upgrading, will probably sell mine soon. Just not using it enough to warrant the need to keep it. A little hard to let it go even though I have only been using it for stability testing recently. -
It's just that earlier, i thought John was referring to GPU cards. And i was like "3 cards?! How can they fit another card in there? It's already crowded as it is."
well, things clears up now.
Thanks for the explanation -
yeah, i haven't decided myself...
whitebook, still waiting on if it's going to actually run 2 4870's
w90vp seems to be having lock up issues
d900f seems to be one gpu
the msi gt725 very good but only one gpu
and the m980nu... no confirmed over clocking of standard cpus or extreme cpus....
d901c probably wont see a gtx280m/gtx260m upgrade
so right about now...im sticking with this...really waiting on if the m98 has over clocking or the d900f in fact is only one gpu(still keeping the faith on that one) but they probably removed it to make room for the triple channel ddr 3 memory
xor01
sorry about that. i thought you seen it was an on board gpu under the heat sink next to the memory... -
John said "you can fit 3 cats in there."
I said "no way, 3 cats? where to put the last 1 cat?"
dtwn said "2 big cats and 1 little cat, dude."
I said "oh, ok, thanks for clearing up mate."
LOL
@dtwn
If you want to sell your D901C, PM me first plz.
If the price is ok, i might just buy it from you... if you don't mind
(I have a friend who works in Singapore. So she can help pickup the item if the deal made) -
And isn't it 3am? -
BTW, I don't need the rig in a hurry anyway, so take your time mate
And, yes, it's 2:37 AM here
PS: You have YM or MSN Messenger that I can contact to? -
Well, except for the Inspiron, that's in Canada. Long story there. -

guys guys, back on topic please
anyway, if i have to choose between M980NU and D900F, i will choose D900F.
need upgradeable desktop CPU rather than 1x laptop CPU with 3x GPU -
Well, as Gophn would tell you, the D900Fs are looking like a return to the original D900* configuration of desktop CPU + single GPU.
From a profit point of view, it would seem highly unlikely that Clevo would implement the GT280m in the D901C. -
if the GTX 280M is available in MXM Type III or IV, then its more than likely going to work in the current Clevo systems (M860TU, M570RU/TU, D901C).
As for SLI and VBIOS compatibilities... Clevo might have some control over that to fix or enable SLI functionality.
But in the end, the person/company making the profit for videocards would be Nvidia and ATI.
... There back on topic. -
I bought my 9261 as a mobile workstation that needs to be fast and has to contain a lot of data. The machine has to last 3-4 years and will than be replaced by a system that will then double its power. I may skip the i7 processor and go for what will be hot in 2011: 32nm 6-8 core technology with large+ultrafast ssd's all the way... -
well, actually, i was afraid I might have stray from the topic a bit.
meaning: talking about selling your rig to me rather that the rig itself
btw, i'm new in the world of custom/barebone laptop. Let say we found ATI 4870 MXM-card that fit in D901C but clevo won't update the BIOS to support it. What can we do? can we cook our own BIOS ROM like in the pda phone world a.k.a. xda-developers? -

In addition to being Copyright violation, it would be virtually impossible for a user to do.
A big 10-4 negative indeed! -
-
yeah, apparently clevo doesn't want 3 kings..it wants just one...and that's not a guarantee at that moment....
-
but i thought one of Clevo pros compared to other ODM is that their barebone laptop can be upgraded "forever".
you know, just like desktop, as long as your GPU still use AGP or PCI-E slot, you can upgrade your GPU forever (along with the PSU if needed).
If only Clevo add an upgradeable PSU in their laptops...
I mean the 3rd HDD bay in D901C could be used for Power Supply Upgrade Unit -

Hi Guys,
I am almost in the market to replace my M860TU with a 17 inch lappie and I like what I read here about the D901C (not too many negative comments). If you had your chance to go back and buy again would you still go for the D901C or another brand? Obviously I want power and performance and even though I carry the computer to work everyday it is a small price to pay for the enjoyment it gives me at night.
I am looking at getting Q9650, 2x 9800 GTX's, 6GB Ram with Vista 64. Thanks in advance for you feedback. -
Gophn posted a while back that 9800M GTX started to fade away from the market. And this add to the speculation that there will be 280M for D901C.
