I just tried it, I turned off the wireless and bluetooth but it still starts lagging like crazy after a few minutes, is there a untility i could use to check the temp of the gpu? Cause I think that could be the problem.
-
Try some of the system-monitoring tools that are listed in the free software stickie at the top of the .Windows software forum.
-
k, i'll give it a shot.
-
My baby has been shipped now and will arrive tomorrow!
It had been delayed a bit because of their delivery company and problems with my processor (since my Xeon 3370 was overheating, they replaced it with a Core 2 Q9650 - they're practically the same anyway), but I hope it'll be worth the waiting! -
Ok so video works fine now, but NFS:MW still lags very bad after a few minutes. I am downloading PCMark06 to do some tests (right idea?) I had xp pro, but reinstalled Vista ulti, and used newer drivers 85xx i think.
When I was installing the new drivers, i installed the card reader driver and I got this error:
"This processor is not adequate for running TIPCI" ? ? ? I mean common it has a desktop e6600, i never though I would have that kind of error.
Oh and I got it for 500 bucks, the owner had dropped it, screen has a crack down the middle, but I can still use it. lol, these laptops are normally to expensive for me. and eventually I will replace the screen, probably motherboard and get a decent DX10 GPU. -
Uhm.. I think I may have serious gpu problems, when it was getting to the CPU test section with 3DMark06 I was getting 0-2 FPS. it just starts lagging like crazy, and the 3rd graphic section was going 0-5FPS... this isn't good...ok now the 4th graphic section is also again 1-7 or so FPS..
My final score was 3368 -
as for the rest of the tests....
- make sure you you are using the latest and stable drivers.
- make sure your system is plugged into AC power.
- make sure to set your PowerMizer settings (in Nvidia Control Panel) to Max Performance... or disable Powermizer
- make sure to set your Power Options (in Windows) to Max Performance. -
-
ahh..... when was the last time you opened it up and cleaned out the fans and vents?
could be overheating.
especially if you do not routinely clean out the vents and fans.
that... or you are irresponsibly using the notebook on a soft surface (lap, bed, couch, etc...) which will block the bottom vents/fans from properly cooling the system.... which would then cause the components to downclock in order to prevent further overheating damage. -
I'm typing on my new Kobalt Comanche SLI now!
It's so insanely fast, never tried anything like it.
What drivers should I download though? Just the ones from nVidia? And do I have to do anything to enable SLI?
I'll be doing a 3DMark later today, my previous computer scored 201(!) so hope that this one'll do better! -
before you switch video drivers...benchmark your stock video driver first... it should be something like 176.09 or 176.25
then go ahead and update them to 179.28 from nvidia
just go into nvidia control panel and click the enable sli button and that's it.
and you will get a bit higher than 201..im pretty sure.. -
OK I re did it, now i got:
5359
How normal is that? Is that to be expected with a 7950gtx and e6600 CPU? Thanks. -
vista 7950gtx orb only link
you should be able to beat these with the right driver and settings....
is that a single or sli? -
wow.. I guess I am still way off...
Hmm maybe its the RAM? I'm using 4G (on 32bit OS...) DDR2-5300. stil..
Which driver would you recommend, and is there a certain chipset driver or so I need for it? I know there was a chipset driver for XP, but I don't know if there is one for vista or not.
hmm wierd I am using the 185.2 drivers, but it says that I am using DX 8.1 and it can't read any of my graphic card information on the nvidia control panel. .... orly? -
With my 7950GTX and x7800 stock I was getting ~5450 and with gfx OC i could bump it up to 6010
-
5373
Thats the new score with the 179.13 drivers. Still no real difference. -
if so, then that score is about right.... maybe slightly lower, but can gain some score back by tweaking the OS (disable the eye candy, disable useless services/processes) -
I tried doing the 3DMark without installing any new drivers and I got a 14k'ish score. However, I'm having problems installing the latest nVidia driver! I went to their website and downloaded the right one (Mobile, GeForce, Vista x64), but it's not working: The first part of the installation goes just fine, but then the screen turns black a few times and eventually remains black. I tried waiting ten minutes while it was black, as it seemed like it was working (fans running), but it didn't chage. Help, anyone?

anassa, I have a 7950 GTX that I would let go cheap. It was pulled from a D901C along with the Motherboard. With Overclock on the 7950s in SLI, you hit about 10k on 3dMark06. One board already sold, still have one left, the 7950s don't use a connector cable. Please PM if you are interested in the Video. Also have a NIB Q6700 for sale...
-
First, thanks to those that have posted the .20 bios on this site. The .17a bios will run a E8600 CPU but it hangs on reboot. Flashing the .20 bios fixes the reboot issue. You can then reset the diagnostic screen setting in bios if you prefer that screen versus the Intel that the new bios install sets.
With the E8600 and 8800s in SLI set at 610/880/1400 overclock [not aggressive], 3Dmark score is 15,349 and I am sure with some tinkering I could get a little more without hanging during the test. So for another $1700+ [the price for two 9800 GTX], the score moves from 15,349 or so to about 16,800. Ouch.... -
610/950/1500 or 1550 or 1600 maybe -
Adjusted to 617/894/1418 and hit 15,395 <- good enough for me. These two boards never have overclocked well, but then again, now it's close to non overclocked 9800 GTX speeds. I can't complain...
-
no over clock-15,750 @500/799/1250
them few points make all the difference in the world. ask a few people...lol
now give vantage mark a run through.
and 8800m gtx's do over clock fairly well, but they need the extra voltage and a high end quad core cpu. -
Tried the .08 and .18 bios for 8800s, not much noticeable difference other than the beep added with the .18 boot up,
clocks to about 618/895/1425. Anything more hangs during the 3dMark06 run. -
so what is your voltage set to?
are you running in performance mode?
are you running the stock drivers or the newer ones?
what settings do you have in the nvidia control panel?
are you set to afr or afr2 or nvidia or single, 3 or 4 way?
are you running nhancer?
im sure we can get you a few more points higher. 3dmark is a speed game. not a quality one... -
GangStaOne experimented with bios flash on the 8800s and found that the voltages wouldn't set higher, which is just as well. I am still running the older video driver, as it has been very stable. Just thought I would revisit overclocking and video flashing after installing the E8600. And then post results in case it might help others in deciding what upgrade path makes sense.... At $260 investment, I am pleased with the speed and cool running of this CPU.
-
here goes someone that got their 8800m gtx up pretty high...
Sager NP9262 / Clevo D901C.
Xotic PC.
Intel Core 2 Quad Q9450 @ 2.67 GHz.
RAM: 4 GB (4,096 MB) of Apacer RAM @ 800 MHz
Nvidia GeForce 8800m GTX / Dox's Modded ForceWare 180.44 / OC'd @ 650 MHz Core Clock - 1,650 MHz Shader Clock - 1,050 MHz Memory Clock - 1.05 Voltage, stable.
SLi: Yes.
Windows Vista Home Premium 64-Bit, tweaked and modded to run with 9 system processes and 78 MB used by system, and with fewer processes than stock. -
Changed setting to 602/960/1600 and scored a 15,545
I sure I can push the 960 some. Runs stable and cool still.
Went back to .08 video bios to get rid of the annoying beep at boot up.... -
nice! i told you your system had more in her. and she still has more in terms of the speed game.
alan, make sure you log these results to orb else it's pretty moot. then no one has anything to compare to in terms of being a legit run... your runs should be on top of every one in the 8800m gtx class. -
For those following oc for the 8800s on D901C/9262, hit 15,578 at 605/995/1425. Reset to 600/990/1420 to leave some overhead and call that good enough. Sure runs cool. Back to work, and maybe a little gaming...
-
no post to orb huh?
-
I have JPG files and the Excel spreadsheets for records [suitable for Email to aid others]. The point of my posts was not for bravado but rather to be use as a starting point by others with a similar set up.
As much as I would love to upgrade to 9800 GTX SLI, from a practical sense; 1) selling off the 8800 SLI that I replace probably would take a lot of time and would not recover that much of the expense and 2) I don't think the performance gain merits the expense.
The upgrade to a E8600 was not too steep, the E8400 I replaced can be easily reused and for most gaming, a Core2 offers great price/performance. I admit that the E8500 is a better price/performance choice, but then moving from an E8400 to a E8500 is again not very satisfying... -
huh?
i think it's a bit of a misunderstanding going on...
reason why we want those to post to orb is to help update the online data base of test ran with your setup so others around the world may compare their system too. you have others on the fence as to what will do what in ones system.
if you we're looking for bravado, then you would have bought a quad core and went with 9800m gtx's.
nbr is a big community, don't get me wrong, but there are still more people that don't make it here, but look for verified comparisons with the orb online data base. -
One of my 8800M GTX tends to idle at about 10 degrees higher than the other, hitting 70 degrees without the fans on high. I'm rather curious as this seems to be substantially higher than the temperatures other users are getting and what I used to be getting.
Anyone experiencing similar phenomena?
And hello john, haven't seen you in a while. -
what up dtwn83! and yes, its been a while.
question..
nvidia control panel/manage 3d settings/sli performance mode
what is yours set at? -
I was flooded with stuff when I got home and never had the time to drop by. Back in the U.S.A right now. Sold my FX too. lol
It's on force alternate frame rendering 2. -
man i hear ya, been on the steady work flow trip my self.
what what?? you gave up the gateway??? say it ain't so!...lol
try afr1 and then run windows wei.
reason is so you can watch the temps monitor during the gpu portion. see if the temps start to even out. before you start, run max fans to get them as close to each other as possible. then set it back to afr2. also see what auto does.
have gpuz up in sensor mode (continue refreshing this screen mode)as well so you can see either of the gpus down clock for a bit
every once in a while i'll get a 10 degree or so difference, but it's because sli isn't rendering together so i'll change modes or stop the program and let the cards catch back up in temps then rerun. usually they stay with in a few degrees now. -
10 mins of max fans and they're still 7 degrees apart at 55 and 48 for the other. I'm running HW monitor as well as GPU-Z. Temps match up on both readings. Each test was done after the laptop had cooled to 55 and 48 before each test.
AFR1 maxed at 62 vs 54
AFR2 maxed at 61 vs 54
AFR1 non-maxed fans at 68 vs 63
AFR2 non-maxed fans at 68 vs 62
The moment fans go off, temps start going up. -
you may need to try and uninstall the drivers and run the stock vga drivers first, then upgrade to the drivers of your liking..
i had to do that like twice i think because the temps we're off..almost like it was trying to run two different drivers or something. also revert all settings back to factory...all things you can try. -
Idling at 45 vs 39
I can live with that.
Unfortunately now, my PSU just started hissing. lol -
hummmm. is it a loud his or a light one?
and does it do it when not under load? -
While I understand that all power bricks hiss, it is merely the degree of hissing that is worrisome. It seems to be okay now. It's the first time I've noticed this issue, so I guess I should just wait to see if it comes up again. -
mine hisses from time to time as well...
-
Off to bed, I'm exhausted. Thanks for the help, dude. -
coool thanks
-
definitely go get newer drivers:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/notebook_drivers.html -
179.28 from nvidia-link for your whql/stable/over clockable driver
185.20 for good vantage scores/gaming graphics quality/ and they added something called "ambient Occlusion" suppose to help with better lighting.. -
