So tell me is the 9800m GTX that much better then the 8800m GTX from a gaming standpoint in the NP9262? I have looked at all the benchmarks and my system although it is overclocked is still running just as fast or faster.

Merging this thread back into the D901C owners' thread would be a good idea - no sense in having threads that are supposed to be gathering everything in one place begin proliferating. :D

No point in getting a Xeon Quad... its mainly for bragging rights.

its the same specs as Q9650.... which is much better priced and fully supported by Clevo.

    2 17" and a 14".

My D901C got tested for explosive residue too. :D

I would be very protective of my notebook when security or whoever wants to inspect it.... since they might damage it.... which is when I will sue and get a new Clevo beast. :)

You're lucky they didn't confiscate it for, umm...testing, yeah, that's right - immi security gets bored, and I'm surprised they didn't jump at the chance to play some games on your D901C.

haha.. i can imagine they'll be looking at the D901C and wondering what in the world that is..

too big to be something illegal to smuggle through, too small to be a supercomputer..

and is it, umm.. too heavy for handcarrying as well? last i remember, handcarry was supposed to be 5 or 15 kg am i right?

Strictly speaking, you are allowed 1 carryon bag and 1 personal item (laptop/laptop bag)

What I did was to fit 2 laptops in my backpack, and put the other in a messenger bag.

Carryon weight tends to be 7-8 kg if I recall correctly.

Been searching for awhile but haven't been able to locate an answer so figured this might be a good place to ask. I have the Blackhawk XR5 and I'm looking to find a car adapter/converter that can handle the juice needed to run the laptop in the car.

Is there one you guys would recommend that runs out of the cigarette lighter? I noticed the power cord says 25v and most of the car inverters/adapters are 10-20v which I'm guessing isn't quite enough to power it up.

    Appreciate the help!

Question for you guys with the Q9650 processor. Since its a desktop processor (and I believe it consumes 95 watts vs. 45 for the QX9300), do you have any problems with too much heat? If so, do you have to do anything special to keep the temps down?

that heat issue is a myth. these cpus run no where near hot. they stay arou d 40 to 60 just as their specs say. unless of course...your in the dessert or your room is in the upper 80s and low 90s. then you can tack on anohter 5 to 10 degrees...
mine gets no higher than 50 to 55. and that's very rare.

    Thanks guys!

I've been driving myself crazy over this whole selection process. After considering Dell, HP and Alienware, I had settled on the 9262 and then started considering the 5797. Then I started reading about the i7 Core and wondering when that processor and Windows 7 might be available. From what I've read, neither will be available until at least the second half of this year, and that's too long for me to hold off on replacing my desktop.

It looks like I'll pull the trigger on a 9262 on Monday!

well imo if you can spend hte money again dont wait, but if want to future proof even more, wait for the new clevo as it seems real close and the things are priced so high it would probably be similarly priced. but i know it sucks to wait, so if you cant just go for it! :)

What is the news on a new Clevo? Any places I can go to read more?

If, as you posted earlier, you cannot wait until the latter half of the year to replace your desktop, I'd say, go with the 9262 you've specc'ed out, and don't look back. By the time you need to replace the 9262, all the bugs and kinks will have been worked out of the first-gen i7-based notebooks, and you'll be able to get a second-gen i7-based Clevo without having to feel like a guinea-pig (or lab-rat, if you prefer).

I find that that's a very bad habit of mine, and if I indulge in it too much, I frequently find that the opportunity I was trying to rationalize has disappeared altogether. Of course, that won't happen here, but it might just mean a lot of extra, unnecessary wear and tear on your nerves. ;)

Anyway, I'd still like to advertise a little for Kobalt Computers:
They're from UK, have fairly cheap prices which includes a 3 year "collect and return" warranty (they pay for delivery both ways if there's a hardware issue) and have an amazing customer service!

Hey guys this has probably been covered, but I just got a Sager D901C, it has a e6600 and geforce 7950 gtx, will my motherboard support a upgrade to a 9800gtx or 8800gtx? Also can i safely use the q6600 or do I need to upgrade to a newer motherboard. If so what revision? Thanks

oh and where would I be able to get a 8800gtx/9800gtx and for what price?

And some more questions. When i watch videos online they work fine, but if i go to full screen it starts to lag. And with games like NFS:MW it runs great with everything on high then after like 5min it get extremely choppy, almost as if the GPU is getting to hot or something, is there any way I fix it. I am using the 172 or so drivers with modded inf.

Welcome to the NBR forums. :)

I believe we covered this topic a number of times as well.

You can upgrade the CPU to a Q6600/Q6700 (G0-stepping) and the GPU to a 8800M/9800M.

Although there is a motherboard revision for the quad-core support (NP9261), then the revision for the 8800M GTX (NP9262)..
... a number of people have successfully upgraded the CPU and GPU (not SLI though)

As for purchasing the videocards, you can contact a Clevo vendor, start with:
.... other vendors in Clevo Guide

Might as well get the latest motherboard revision if you want fully support on the latest stuff.

its usually shown on a sticker near the memory slots.

no need to check, if you got a 7950GTX NP9260... then you have the first revision.

the Q6600/Q6700 (G0-stepping) does work... tested.

the 8800M GTX does work.... tested.

the 8800M GTX in SLI has not been tested yet AFAIK.

long-term issues.... none so far from those that have done it.

The video lag you describe is probably caused by bad video drivers or something else in the system that is hogging CPU/FSB time - how long has it been since the OS and drivers were installed? Also, check your event logs to see if there is anything logged there (e.g., some process timing out) that might relate to the lag or to something hogging system time.

I have just reinstalled xp pro and drivers like 4 days ago so everything should be clean. When I go full screen with like a video oh hulu the cpu usage goes up to 50% or so, and lags.
