sounds good...Thanks...I will stick with raid 5 then...I just didn't want to hurt my speed that much....so instead of 960gb i will have 640gb. with any 1 as a backup incase of a failure to any hdd.

I love the smell of napalm in the morning... :D

New AW support Hybrid-SLI, so it must've use Nvidia 9400m chipset, just like Clevo M980NU. In fact, I think the new AW is M980NU but with slightly altered layout. I mean, the audio jack position, the cooler grill, the DC Input jack behind....

Definitely don't think so. Most likely it's a Quanta original. If it were an M980NU, it would support 3 hard drives, and not only two.

Am looking forward to the D900F reviews later this week~ :D

XoticPC just emailed me that my 9280 is on Phase 2 for custom building, burn-in, testing, and final quality control. Woot!

I know Clevo M980NU and new AW spec/features are different.
I also know Dell's ODM is Quanta.

But really, if you look at the new AW, the hardware layout really resemble Clevo M980NU. I'm not talking about internal layout though, the external layout is what I'm talking about. the fan grill, the placement of I/O connectors...

    Hahahahaha.
The connectors placement dude... and the fan grill.

Hmm, Asus W90vp has 2 version, the 18.4" and 17"... Could it be Clevo does the same??? :p

Yeah. But once you reach the 17"-20" range laptops, their grill placements are usually the same~ Heck, most laptops only have the power connector at the back and everything else on the sides~ Hopefully we can see some great comparison benchmarks for the D900F, M17x, and M980NU by the end of this month~

So, does this mean you would all like me to document everything from box opening to various views of the laptop and my impressions on components and peripherals, etc... to benchmarks and how it runs on "cough" Crysis, the ultimate resource hog, er... i mean game. ;) hehe. I don't even own a copy but I will buy one and play it for a bit, if that will satisfy your curiosity. After that tho, I will be logged in to WoW and I won't surface for two days! Well, at least until I get the wife battle cry! 8D

Yeah, and the irony is, the market IS small and tight :p
Gaming laptop market is really small compared to entry-level or low-end laptops. And they fight ferociously over that small market :D

The 950 is fantastic... I could never justify the extra 500 dollars or so for the extreme 975, only difference is name, slightly higher clock speed, and a higher pricepoint lol

Seems that Alienware is advertising their M17x as the most powerful 17" laptop in the universe. My money is still up for the D900F~ :D

@washy212: Be sure to post a review when it arrives~

What is up with the topic title? I have only heard of the D900F not D901F. They should put an SLI upgrade in D901F though. That would be fantastic.

I think Alienware advertises their M17x laptop as the most powerful in gaming world, although they do not say that explicitly.

    Hi everyone,

I will be buying the NP9280 soon but I'm not sure what processor I should get.

I will not be gaming (except for perhaps a little Command and Conquer) and will mostly be using the machine for multimedia and such.

I'm not sure if I should get the 950 or the standard 920. In Australia there is about a $600 difference between the two.

What do you think? Is the 950 worth the extra cash for what I'm doing?

I'd like to hear your opinions.

    Thanks,

    Barney

    one ssd
    two 500gb @7200
    or
    one sdd
    2 500gb @7200 raid 0
    or
    3 500gb@7200 raid 0
    or
    3 320gb@7200 raid 0

It will be interesting to see what if any speed differences there are between our systems, yours raid 0, mine raid 5. btw, mine is scheduled to arrive this Friday 6/5! Being a noob myself, I would recommend downloading FutureMark's PCMark Vantage it's only $20. For $35 you can get the "Vantage" bundle which includes PCMark and 3dMark.

If you have enough money, go for 1x SSD + 2x 500GB w/o RAID.
If you don't have enough money, go with 3x 500GB w/ RAID-5 or w/o RAID.
If you're speed freak and have the money to burn, go for 3x SSD RAID-5 :p

IMHO, the performance gain of 2x HDD with RAID-0 doesn't justify the risk.

Ah guy's I'm sorry to leave you on the owners lounge... I have made my final decision... I'm opting up for 3800 dollars to get the Alienware M17x with Dual 280m's, 1920, 1200 screen, alien FX,Slot loaded BLu-ray drive, 4gb 1333hz ddr3 memory, and a little less HDD space at 640gb in raid 0... I know, I know, but I just couldn't pass this up, also have you seen the power adapter it is a great improvement over any I have seen, it is slim, sleek and still provides the necessary 240watts of power!

You should look at various benchmarks here in this thread and also at anandtech and tomshardwareguide. In my opinion for multimedia the 920 is good enough.
