If $ were no object I'd do it in a heartbeat. But, I think i'll wait until the price drops in a year or so. About the same time I upgrade the cpu to an 32nm Intel Gulftown!

this guy on youtube said he called sager and asked them about upgrading his np9262 to gtx 280m sli and they said yes once they release the drivers. does any1 know where i can still get a 9262 if this is true? yes, i have already checked ebay. I am a very high end gamer so I know the 9262 will dominate every game but how will the performance be against the core i7 while playing gta 4? will it still beat it? I sure hope so. Should I look into a 9280 or 9262? Please help
-
-
it seems the 280m works in a m17 so it should work in a 9262/clevo -
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
Yeah but I still would rather get a single 280 in the 9280 becuase then I have the MXM 3.0 slot for future upgrades, and the I7

All right. Received mine yesterday as promised. Couple hours after reception ATT Yahoo internet went down until this morning so could not do much ...
What I can tell:
Packaged very well in a shock proof box.
Arrived with battery full.
The power adapter is HUGE. Looks like something from the 80s ... Remember the early cell phones
Turned on the laptop and it worked fine.
Vista rating of 5.9
Screen is very nice, case is made of hard shiny plastic and very black. Only problem is that it feels like PVC plastic at the touch but not really bad.
Some plugs are covered with rubber (like the cable-TV input and the 7 in 1 reader) which is nice.
Little rubber offsets under the laptop give it good clearance for airflow.
Fan is not noisy but is always audible.
Unit is thicker than my old Inspiron 9400 (17") but otherwise same size.
Full keyboard with number pad on right. Nice.
Worst part is the touchpad. The "mouse buttons" look and feel flimsy.
Overall very pleased. Arrived as advertised, works well. Screen is good. And it is very fast Fan a bit noisier than expected and touchpad is flimsy.
Ill let experts run the benchmarks. But this is the view of the average Joe -
we just want to know one thing for the moment.... does it have over clocking??

I will post some numbers when I get mine. But, I'm in China now and probably wont be able to post these numbers till the end of June

I'm sure Johnksss will lead you test the overclockability of your rig.
And congratulations for your new rig -
Upload some pics?

If it turns out it does support over clocking I may forgo SLI for now and pick up a D900F, I am anxious to test a W3520 Xeon in there, it should work no problems without a bios update, they are 30 dollars more than 920's, they are better binned and over clock even better with lower voltages and lower temps than i7 D0's.

was thinking the same thing....but someone else told me to run with two gtx280m's in here and have the fastest laptop in the world once again...(my addon..lol)
-
hey johnksss do u know where i can still get a 9262 for a good price? all i need is d901c doesnt have to be sager. id like the starting price to atleast be around $2000 all these other companies are just outrageous with the freaking $2500 dollar starting price not to mention sli, ram, hdd upgrades. speaking of hdd is that vertex ssd worth it john? the only way ill buy one is if i can find them cheap tho. if i order one should i get a E8600 then upgrade to Q9650/QX3000/QX9650 when i get the money or should i just cave in and get one at purchase? btw, i called sager today, they said no to the GTX 280M SLI upgrade but i think they are hiding something if this guy on youtube called and they said yes. idk much about this stuff so dont flame me if im wrong but if we can crack the bios we should be able to get the GTX 280m sli working right? has anyone tried it without cracking the bios. i though Justin@XoticPC was gonna do it? sorry for the long reply lol im just excited even though i have nowhere near the amount of money to buy one lol

MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
... I think I am going with the new Alienware... a 17", thinner, 2 280's in SLI, a great sleek design and a Seemingly awesome cooling system... I was pleasently suprised... However, we will see... If the new Alienware doesnt have MXM 3.0 slots then I dont know if I'll go that direction
-
-
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
It has an ALiminum chassis which makes it slightly heavier... and then there is the extra GPU
I really hope that the new Sager which the cooling system is capable of handling 2 280's soon gets them as wel,l and reclaims the title... Becuase to tell you the truth I dont really think the new alienware is so much better looking that it is worth the extra grand or two -
It doesn't really matter to me. In my opinion laptops are things that weight less than 4 kg and can give you at least 1 hour of battery life. I don't know what are those that go beyond that - I like to call them "All-in-one portable gaming rig/workstation" .
Alienware would be a great company if they wouldn't charge an arm and a leg for their machines. I mean this thing starts at 1800 USD with one 260M and a P8600, that's rather expensive and I am sure that when you'll want to pump up the specs things will get pretty crazy. I wonder what chipset they use if they claim to have 1333 Mhz memory, or is it still runing at 1066 but they put 1333 in order to allow easy OC. -
still waiting on justin and the final word on that...
-
Even if in eua M980NU start at same price tag of D900F it will be not that much expensive compared with the clevo's.
BTW the chipset is the same as in macbook, M980NU etc.
If D900F don't have overclock I'm definitely getting on M17X -
the chipset in the M980NU is a Nvidia chipset.... not the typical Intel PM45 chipset.
-
hey, that might be good news...there might be an easier way to over clock it....hummmm
-
-
man...just wait until see the Crys Bench..click and buy
-
Hmmm....no other NP9280 owners posting anything....
-
Its supposed to be shipping out this week.
-
last I heard it will be Wednesday... man this is the longest time I ever had to wait for a laptop. it's close to a month since I ordered it lol
-
Same here. This is torture.
-
I just love watching this sort of self-imposed torture! Don't worry, it'll be there sooner than you think!
-
Be patience, even though I know it`s not easy -

MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
Grrr I need reviews on the 9280 and the new Alienware... I dont need two GPU's however, if I can get the alienware with 2 280ms in MXM 3.0 slots I'll take it
-
-
I'm interested to see how the i920's bench against me
-
Hey mrbutterbiscuits,
I can almost guarantee you that alienware will overprice their laptop waaaaaay too much. If you want the GTX 280M SLI then wait for the upcoming M980NU. You can look it up as the Comanche SLI or Clevo M980NU. Only downsides are no desktop cpus (if u can overclock the QX9300 should be fine), 18.4" 16:9 screen. The screen to me looks stunning and-call me crazy-but that 16:9 aspect ratio doesnt seem that bad to me. Still a very nice and high 1920x1080 resolution.
EDIT: Hey johnksss where do u see a price for one that has a core 2 extreme quad and dual gta 280's -
QX9300 can be oc to 2.9 i believe...'anothergeek' has done this and got some good numbers with the sigle 280m -
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
I really like the Sager 9280 though, and I really don't want an 18" lappy, call me crazy, but to me there is a big difference between 17" and 18.4"... it doesn't hace as many options as far as coolers, bags etc. the Alienware is 17" and has a awesome cooling system... But like I said no MXM 3.0 slots no deal, and I want to know what Chipset the Alienware uses...
Basically I've narrowed it down to the Sager 9280, or the new alienware -
Well after many years of searching for the perfect laptop. Then, many months waiting for the NP9280. Followed by an extremely long wait, because I take forever to decide to make purchases, I have ordered the NP9280.
I expect a pretty nice increase in performance, I am still running on a single 1.7GHz processor. With 1GB of memory and on board video. (w00t)
So hello everyone, I shall await in the line of ever growing people, practicing patience for when this laptop is finally released. -
Off topic just for a small question...I'm going to go with raid 5...do you guys have any input on the reasons why i shouldn't?...or why i should?
I just hate to have this installed and find out it sucks and hard then be hard to uninstall -
MrButterBiscuits ~Veritas Y Aequitas~
Just For my Information what is raid 5? I have heard of raid 0, and 1
-
Raid five is similar to a combination between RAID 0 and RAID 1. It requires a minimum of three disks. The data is written to all the disks. The entire array size is limited to all the disks, minus one. So Three 500GB disks would become 1TB. The advantage of RAID 5 is speed and security. In a three way RAID5 environment, Two blocks of data are written, with one block of parity. On each drive, the parity block is switched, so that the same data spans all three disks. If a hard drive fails in a RAID5 array, it can be replaced and the RAID rebuild without any loss of data. Wikipedia has a good article on it.
