I don't think you would be disapointed with the single 280M GTX...Since it is the most powerful single GPU going today(disputable)

Just check here if you wonder which is best (on paper anyway) :) ... http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GTX-280M.14558.0.html

Sager now includes the attached wallpaper graphics for units preloaded with Windows Vista, it will also be available on SagerNotebook.com soon.

Sager's new boot screen for NP9280 also attached.

Now, I ordered an i7 920. Does this mean that I will be unable to do a self upgrade to a 940 or 965XE at a later date with my mobo/chipset?

Edit: What I mean is I ordered an NP9280 with a 920 CPU. Is an upgraded cpu impossible for me now?

Thanks, so I assume that this was the delay that was mentioned. So, is that LGA-1366 a huge boost in performance?

All Core i7 Nehalem Bloomfield cores are LGA-1366. So the above update doesn't make sense to me. Can anyone shed some light on this?

It would have made more sense to me if it had said, "... future Intel® Core™ i7 32nm Westmere based processors code-named Gulftown."

The reason I say this is that Intel is already dumping Bloomfield 45nm in favor of Westmere 32nm.

See below ALL i7 Bloomfields are LGA-1366:

    Processor
    Intel® Core™ i7-920 Processor (2.66GHz) 8MB L3 Cache, 4.8 GT/sec QPI, LGA 1366
    Intel® Core™ i7-940 (2.93GHz), 8MB L3 Cache, 4.8 GT/sec QPI, LGA 1366
    Intel® Core™ i7-965 Processor Extreme Edition (3.20GHz), 8MB L3 Cache, 6.4GT/sec QPI, LGA 1366

    Core Logic
    Intel® X58 Chipset + ICH10R

In any event, since the Gulftown and Bloomfield share the same X58 chipset and 1366-pin socket it will make upgrading the cpu a snap.

Yeap, we've already discussed this. Upgrading to that feature and nice 6 core 12 thread CPU coming up Q1 2010 will be possible as it has the same TDP 130W and Intel already confirmed it will be using the same Chipset and socket.

That makes sense but, it would have been nice to have said that instead of being so vague.

The Core i7-950 is a performance edition bloomfield chip which is clocked at 3.06 GigaHertz with 8 MegaBytes of cache. The Core i7-975 is an extreme edition bloomfield chip clocked fastest at 3.33 GigaHertz and the same 8 MegaBytes of cache. These two chips will replace the i7-940 and i7-965 respectively when released. The specifications and price are listed below.

Core i7 975 Extreme Edition Bloomfield:
    Speed: 3.33 GHz
    Cores: 4
    Cache Size: 8 MB
    Memory controller: DDR3 800/1066/1333 MHz
    Bus Interface: 1x 6.4 GT/s QuickPath
    Socket: LGA1366
    Power TDP: 130 W
    Price: $999

Core i7 950 Performance Edition Bloomfield:
    Speed: 3.06 GHz
    Cores: 4
    Cache Size: 8 MB
    Memory controller: DDR3 800/1066/1333 MHz
    Bus Interface: 1x 4.8 GT/s QuickPath
    Socket: LGA1366
    Power TDP: 130 W
    Price: $562

I decided not to sell my M1730. Realised that its worth alot more than what I can get, and its probably a better package to keep.

So 900F pre-ordering is out for me.

I remember when AMD had the fastest, and the first athlon 64 FX had come out. It was about $800 and they released more of the same. They're just as guilty..

Oh and of course the CPU was stupid fast, like the extreme i7 is today. You could have bought a "mainstream" athlon 64 for less than half and get the same deal you'll get now with the 920: a stupid fast CPU with a good price ratio. But there are always the enthusiast looking to waste money for the best, even if it's only for a few months.

Yep, it's all about the money dude.
So what we need is for both Intel and AMD to have a new product with similar performance. This will ignite a price war between them and benefit us, the consumer. yeah, "divide et empera" dude

Now I don't want to turn this thread off topic, but I agree, we need AMD to make a better CPU. And they have with the Phenom 2, but clock for clock it's slower than Penryn, and Intel has the power to drop prices so the clocks and the prices match. But then Intel just wins, and AMD is left in the dust as Intel readies their octicore i7

Would the NP9280 with 920 also have support for the future i7 processors? Or does that only apply if you ordered with a 940/965 (which will be upgraded to 950/975)? I was planning on ordering with a 920, and upgrade later on (end of the year is when work usually gets busy) if I do need the extra rendering power.

the i7-920 is a very nice chip...and if it had over clocking...then you wouldn't even have to be concerned with upgrading for quite some time...sort of like the q6600 quad cpu...that chip was best chip of the year for a few years running...lol

only the initial batch of D900F units have shipped through Sager (includes all of their resellers).

so many will have to wait since there is major backorder... just like what happened with the D901C started to ship as well.

I'm not for sure but, I don't think it's up to sellers to make the upgrade, it's sager's decision. So, therefore they all have the upgrade i think...Now that the i7's are on backorder like gophn said. Who knows when we wll get it...Hopefully not too far into june...Maybe 2nd week i hope

So I just talked to the guys at powernotebooks and this is what they told me about my 9280, with the 940, order that I placed May 5th.
"Sager expects your order to ship next week, as soon as they get the Core i7-950 processors in-house."

For me it is going to be a 9280 or this "All powerful" lappy.

But I'm leaning more towards Sager for the price to hardware ratio is the best I have seen!

WOOT! I can hardly wait any longer. Although while waiting I've upgraded from 920 to the 940; now 950. Added a third 7200 rpm 320gb HD in raid 5 and upgraded to Vista Ultimate.

Anyone have any other recommendations for upgrades?
