Adding, removing, and changing RAID setting will destroy data on the HDD. So backup all of your data first.

Oh crap so you recommend I call Justin tomorrow, and tell him to change the raid setting ? Seems like im going to have to do that early in the morning .

    I have -

    Primary hardrive

    ~ 250GB 5400RPM (Serial-ATA II 300 - 8MB Cache)

    Secondary hardrive

    ~ 250GB 5400RPM (Serial-ATA II 300 - 8MB Cache) ( + 65 )

    ---------------------------

    Raids -

HDD Raid Settings - OFF ( since I din't know I chose this one )

    Raid 5 Stripe with Parity Enabled (Requires 3 Hard Drives) ( + 0 )

Raid 1 Mirror Enabled (Requires 2 Hard Drives. Copies data from primary drive to secondary drive) ( + 0 )

Raid 0 Stripe Enabled (Requires 2 or 3 Hard Drives. Combines Hard Drives for performance) ( + 0 )

What would you guys reccomend ?

If you use 2x HDD, better choose no RAID. The RAID-0 performance gain don't justify the risk. RAID-1 on the other hand, will cut your total capacity in half since it use the 2nd HDD for mirroring.

Yep, that's him. He is a talking beaver :D

Well I'm just another hopeful 9280 owner who's waiting to get his. I emailed Ben at PCTorque and he said mine should ship in a day or so, but we'll see. I wish Sager would have given us a bit of a notice about the CPU switch. It's been almost a month!

I am still updating Vista Ultimate, but, I only have a Windows Experience Index of only 3.3. Because my "Disk Data Transfer Rate" is only 3.3. All of the other indexes are 5.9. How do I improve my DDTR? Or, is that the max with (3) 320gb 7200 rpm HDs in Raid 5?

    3.3 can't be right.

You should be gettiing 5.9 across the boards.

When i get mine and thats all i get out of it it will go right back out the door.

You wont be able to play any games till you figure out what that is causing that low score. Well maybe Zelda

    GreyReaver:

check Intel Matrix Storage Manager if your RAID 5 is initializing, if it is. might be a long wait, but wait it out let it complete. and rerun the index.

i noticed that vista some times like to cause RAID 5 setup to reinitialize because it has moved the files around during the first few boots when trying to optimize the file systems.

it happens with my desktop setup, when ever i reinstall. and i'm always infor a long reintializing the first few days. but then it never happens again until i reinstall the OS again.

    Question:

Are the WXGA+ panels from the D900c/901c compatible with the D900F? So if one were to want to downgrade to 1440x900, is it possible?

Yeah, like the W90Vp and Whitebook, I am a fan of the very basic, plain, utilitarian look and design.

Then again, my favorite notebook of all time was the Thinkpad 770Z and the look/design of Thinkpads to be is perfection.

So did you pull the trigger on your APM17x?

Wow. I am going to call XoticPC on Monday and I will let you know what I find out about either optimizine the data transfer rate or switching to raid 0.

Yes, a volume initialization is in process. perhaps after a day or so it will calm down and I will check it again. but, I am also going to talk to XoticPC about my options of either optimizing the raid 5 or switching to raid 0.

After the Volume initialization process finished. I ran a new performance test and my data transfer rate is now 5.6, it probably didn't help that I was playing WoW at the same time. btw, I am getting between 45 and 50 fps in wow.

set intel matrix storage manager to advance view, or there should be a option to see open a initialization status window, leave your system on and let it finish.

once its down your drive index should raise up, once you refresh it.

it's low now it's because its running busy like hell running the initialzation.

Hey guys. I'm looking over options for my next notebook, and stumbled on the Sager NP9280. My mind was blown. The specs... I didn't even know that 3.33ghz quad cores were even available for notebooks until I checked the customizable options.

Anyway, I'm on a budget of around $2,500. Do any of you have experience dealing with Sager/Clevo products? Are they reliable? Is the tech support good?

$2500? You are looking at the 920 (i7 2.66ghz) then for a decently configured 9280 to keep it under or at $2500.

I know. I can't AFFORD that 3.33ghz processor, it's just that I'm surprised it's even an option. That said, the i7 920 is MORE then enough processing power for what I need.

    Placed my order with xoticpc.com:

    Core i7 975 3.33GHz
6GB RAM (a real shame 12GB is so expensive, but can't justify another K)
    GTX 280M 1,024MB
HD 160GB Intel X25-M Solid State
    2nd and 3rd HD: 500GB 7200RPM
    Blue-Ray Read/8X DVDRW
    ... no RAID

This notebook will replace the one in my sig, the one in my sig will become my backup notebook. I consult and travel allot so I can't really afford downtime.

I primary do development, but I like the gaming aspect as a distraction whilst on the road. I’ll be running D3 and SC2 on it mostly :)

I run allot of VMs (often encrypted), so I am dying to see how the Core 7i will perform and what the SSD HD will do. Form what I read, its should be great.

I have been EXTREMELY happy with my ol’ D901C (In the past I had a Dell, without getting into it, I hate that company, I did not like the XPS I had)

The D901C may not be a pretty, but what’s inside that is what counts. Its easy to open up, maintain, great airflow etc.

I was one of the people that had to upgrade the mobo of my D901C so I could use the 8800s. Overall I have been pretty happy with SAGER service, xoticpc has been great, so they have my business again. ... now if it was a Dell … I am still seething after my dell experience.

The 4GB RAM sticks are still too expensive right now..Give it 3 to 4 months hopefully it will be like all the other RAM sticks, i.e. the price goes down to a more affordable one.

I do not know as laptop is at home and I'm at work. I will check and update this post when I get home.

I am thinking about installing the latest beta nVidia driver.

    Nvida Driver 185.81 Beta

Is anyone using this one and what are your experiences with it?

So I'm ordering this godly machine. I've pretty much decided on all of it except for the hard drives. What hard drive config do you all think I should get? Money isn't really an issue. I do want to have a good amount of space because I have a rapidly growing collection of music and movies, and because of that I would like it to be fairly secure, but I want it to perform like a jesus as well. Keep in mind with your responses that I'm not too tech-saavy. Thanks.

Welcome to the NBR forums. :)

I would recommend to get 500GB drives since they give you the most storage and great performance.
