For those with touchpad tracking delays and smoothness issues. The fix for it is; Right-click windows start, device manager, Mice and other pointing devices, right-click 'razer blade', update driver, search automatically. It'll install the newest driver from Razer. After installing and restarting tracking is immediate, snappy, smooth and accurate.

After some playing around, bios mods/tweaks and registry edits, I was able to get the 2060 variant to out perform the m17 with 2070 and gs75 stealth 2070 - both those two in the baseline are mine, with same tweaks in bios and registry. I am pretty impressed with this razer. And yes, all cores will turbo to 4.1ghz, at the same time. Screenshot (4).png Screenshot (5).png

That's amazing! What kinda BIOS mods&tweak did you do if you don't mind me asking? I have seen a BIOS tweak guide in the MSI forum, which I'm not sure if it can be applied to the blade.

The bios tweaks made were the IMON from the MSI forum, DPTF changes, PCH-FW changes to make razers firmware stop throttling, changes in overclocking performance and CPU configuration changes. Registry edits to add additional performance plans in windows and allow the core parking performance settings.

That’s great news, it’ll be great if you can give some simple guide for Blade15 CPU tweak, I remember on Blade 15 2018 Users can’t make access overclocking menu even flashed the original and changed from default to user setting. And 2060 Blade i think still sit on top 3Dmark rtx2060 Laptop.
Edit: yes it’s even new record break.

I am waiting to get a reply concerning certain forum rules and waiting for a friend to send me his bios to see if I make a generic flashable bios for the blade 15 rtx, will it also overwrite serial numbers and other personal to machine information. I'd personally rather have a "one-click" solution made for everyone vs. download these 3 programs, and 20 steps of instructions that could lead to potential bricking of the BIOS. When I get on AC power I am going to take a swipe at that record, haha.

That's so kind of you. I have a question about unlocking the BIOS though since I haven't got my laptop yet. Is it the same as unlock the BIOS in GS65? I was reading the unlocking bios guide by hackness and I've seen people asking the unlock code multiple times. Do we have a different code for that, or we have just have a different way of unlock it?

Razers’s BIOS doesn’t use a key pattern to unlock. You have to extract the bios from your mobo, edit it directly and reflash to your mobo. I hate to say this but Razer uses a generic 2019 AMI BIOS, that is easily user configurable if you have the appropriate software which you need a license to own and use. It’s Razers firmware that utilizes hidden options in the bios that need to have their values changed prior to reflashing to the mobo. Those changes occur on the pci options of the BIOS in hexadecimal. Those changes require edits to the registry after reboot, those changes are for cpu core parking and high performance mode/ultimate performance mode.

Thanks for the detailed explanation. Guess it's something I shouldn't do at this moment. I will look into more threads to get more basic knowledge first and see if I can do some of these partially myself. Would it brick my laptop if I edited them wrong? :(

Ive done the MSI 4 button keypress to get the advanced menu on a Raider laptop. That particular laptop never throttled on temperature so it just made sense to get more out of the 8750h.

The razer hits 98c for me as a peak in Pubg with an average of 83c @-185mv. ( think my cpu was very over-volted from factory)
With raised power limits and rocking 4.1 across the board im afraid id be bouncing into the red way to much, have a hotter vapor chamber and louder fans.
If the single core could go higher than 4.1 now that would be faster browsing etc where thermals wont play a part. But i don't think that is possible.

I see, I can understand that, yes flashing has a risk and I think it’s a risk as enthusiast as well. Actually imo you can make guidelines like hackness made but for Blade 15. He made I think base on GS65.
I did several times moding on Blade 14 2017 btw since it was needed to increase the lockdown gpu performance, and reseted every time officiall bios update but on 15 model even with PL throttling it’s already on top maxq laptops and I can imagine if that issue is solved. It’s why this forum exist for us the enthusiasts to optimize laptops performance especially after this manufacturer and nvidia limitation with the born of maxq architecture in thin light categories, and Razer laptops that already exist quite long in thin light categories with a right user “touch” can be really potential.

***This is entirely at your own risk. By doing any of the BIOS section mods, YOU HAVE THE CHANCE TO BRICK YOUR BIOS. I am not responsible if you brick your BIOS. If you're unsure about any step in the process, ask. Be careful and check everything twice.***

Razer uses the 2019 AMI BIOS, pretty generic version. Razer also is using a modified version of Windows 10. Before we modify the BIOS to unlock the hidden menu system, we must first get around what "Razer Central" and modified Windows 10 has added to the registry. This includes multiple registry edits and you'll need to add a new register to the registry. It will allow you to adjust "core parking", that will solve the 99% throttle by windows. Every edit will only work when in "Balanced Mode" in Synapse because of Razers Firmware setup. Also, be sure before you begin that your Blade 15 can thermally handle this. Anything above 85c, probably reconsider? Or; laptop cooling pad, repaste?

Disable/delete ThrottleStop and/or Intel XTU before proceeding with BIOS tweaks and mods. You’ll BSOD due to lack of voltage after completing them quote from Hackness, “ThrottleStop's Core and cache's undervolt offset and the BIOS undervolt offset need to be cleared before setting the AC and DC loadline to 1, only very little undervolt is allowed on the cache with AC and DC loadline to 1, around -43mV~-65mV, otherwise it'll crash straight away with voltage offset like -165mV on the cache.”

    Registry Edits

    1. Windows + R, "regedit" hit Enter.
    2. (Copy and Paste after 'Computer') \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Power
    3. Power should be highlighted and open.
    4. Click on CsEnabled and change the hexidecimal value from 1 to 0. (This allows other performance options to be shown after we point the registry to it).
    5. We have to edit another register. (Copy and Paste after 'Computer') \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Power\PowerSettings\54533251-82be-4824-96c1-47b60b740d00\0cc5b647-c1df-4637-891a-dec35c318583
    6. Click 'Attributes' and change the hexidecimal value to 2.
    7. Exit Regedit.
    8. Open CMD, Run as Administrator.
    9. We are going to add two new performance modes, High Performance and Ultimate Performance to the registry via CMD. Copy and Paste 8 and 9 into CMD.
    10. High Performance. powercfg -duplicatescheme 8c5e7fda-e8bf-4a96-9a85-a6e23a8c635c hit enter.
    11. Ultimate Performance. powercfg -duplicatescheme e9a42b02-d5df-448d-aa00-03f14749eb61 hit enter.
    12. Restart your computer for changes to take affect.
Power Options Bypass of Razer Central

Now since your computer is restarted, we have to trick Windows and Razer Central/Synapse.

    1. Right-click Battery Icon and select 'Power Options'.
    2. Open 'Show additional Plans'. There should be High Performance and Ultimate Performance. For both plans the steps 3-7 are the same.
    3. Click 'Change plan settings'
    4. Click 'Change advanced power settings'
    5. In the drop down, click the "+" for Processor power management.
    6. Click the '+' for Processor performance core parking min cores'.
    7. Change "Plugged in" from 100% to 0%. Leave it at 100% for battery or your battery life will crash so hard.
Using either, High Performance or Ultimate Performance power plan modes in conjunction with "Balance Mode" in Synapse, you'll have a slight performance gain across all aspects, GPU, CPU, R/W of SSD (~.1v increase, yeah, really Razer?) On Battery power I recommend you keep your Windows power option to "Balanced'.

    BIOS IMAGE Mods/Tweaks/Changes

*** Warning, these changes have the potential to brick your system. If you don't know what you're doing, DO NOT DO THIS. I am not liable or responsible for any outside changes you make to your own BIOS. You make these changes at your own risk.***

Please ensure ThrottleStop and Intel XTU are Deleted/disabled before continuing.

This first step, you are going to have to dive to google and google these programs, (licensing issues and I do not know the policy for uploading them here). The programs you will need to find are:

    1. AMIBCP
    2. AfuWinGuix64 5.x or higher.
As Razer doesn't key unlock or encrypt their BIOS, they "hide" the options from us. Using those programs, you'll be able to download your BIOS from memory, Edit your BIOS, and reflash your BIOS in windows.

After you have both downloaded and in a single folder:

    1. Open AFUWINGUIx64.
    2. Click 'Save' and give your .rom a file name or use the option it gives you.
    3. Once your BIOS image is saved, make a copy of it, call it "Original_BIOS" and save it.
    4. Open AMIBCP.
    5. Click 'File" -> Open, select your BIOS image.
    6. Once your BIOS image is loaded, make sure you're in the "Setup Configuration" tab.
    7. In the left pane, click the '+' next to the un-name folder.
    8. Click the '+' for Setup -> Advanced -> Power & Performance.
    9. Click 'CPU - Power Management'.
    10. In the right pane, you'll changeable options in "Access/Use" clicking on a line will give you options to change. Copy the option changes from my screenshot to match yours. Screenshot (10).png
    11. Click 'Power & Performance' copy my screenshot. Screenshot (11).png
    12. Click 'CPU VR Settings' copy my screenshot. Screenshot (12).png
    13. Click 'File' and Save.
    14. Close AMIBCP.
The BIOS image has been edited and modified to show additional settings in BIOS. Now its time to take the modified BIOS version and reflash it to the BIOS chip.

***Before proceeding make sure you are on AC power, not battery.***
    1. Open AFUWINGUIx64.
    2. Click 'Open'.
    3. Select your edited BIOS you just made and open it.
    4. You should be in the 'Setup' tab of AFUWUNGUIx64.
    5. The ONLY thing that should be check marked is "Main BIOS Image".
    6. Click 'Flash", let it read, write and verify. Can take a minute or two.
    7. Once it's finished. Reboot to BIOS.
    BIOS Changes

    F1 to enter your BIOS.

Changing the IMON settings solve automatic overvolting and also tricking the computer into thinking you're half the wattage you really are. Technically in theory you could do 80-90 watts to the 8750H all while the computer thinks its really 32ish watts but your CPU voltage at load will be 1.180-1.2v.
    1. Navigate to Advanced -> Power & Performance -> CPU - Power Management Control -> CPU VR Settings -> Core/IA VR Settings.
    2. AC and DC Loadline change value to 1. This change prohibits Balanced Mode in Synapse to effect voltage throttling in the background.
    3. IMON Slope value change to 50.
    4. IMON Offset value change to 31999.
    5. IMON Prefix to [-] (negative) MUST DO.
    6. VR Current Limit value change to 800.
    7. TDC Enable set the value to Disabled.
    8. F4 save and restart.
It will take about 30 seconds for the computer to boot up after saving.

Once booted into Windows, Set your Synapse to "Balanced Mode", Windows Power option to High or Ultimate Performance. Enjoy the full capabilities of your Razer Blade 15!

***EDIT: I don't know if someone wants to sticky this or if I should make it its on thread.
***EDIT 2: Added ThrottleStop and Intel XTU warnings based on @hackness comment of BSOD. Thank you @hackness

Thanks for sharing this, I think you can make your thread as well since this is not limited to rtx Blade, I believe users who stucked on unlocking bios menu on last year model would take their attention on this. Having access to bios overclocking menu to me was the best for undervolting the cpu compared using TS and XTU personally plus full power 8750H is nice to have, and to me this is my have to do list.

Thanks for the detailed guide, Nicely done! I'm actually looking for a cooling pad or stand for the blade right now. Do you think the alleviation chroma stand would be sufficient enough or an actually cooler with fan would be better? I remember reading a post saying just a stand alone to lift the laptop a bit from the desk significantly lower the temps inside the blade.

Its actually not that impressive. I got the DX racer desk and cut a 6" hole in it and mounted a 120mm fan underneath. It really cools well. Basically keeps the motherboard and bottom cool.
Big fan means its pretty quiet. 12v universal adapter from walmart and thats it.

Too bad I'm living in a rental right now and I think I'm moving in about four, five months. I think I will give it a shot when I go back home, haha. Was it hard to drill the hole though? I'm not sure what tool should I use for that...

    CROSS POST FROM REDDIT:

    Hello all!

I am a new owner of the Mercury Razer Blade 15 RTX 2060 laptop. First I want to say that I absolutely love this laptop. It is extremely gorgeous and of high quality!

However, I am a bit let down by the high CPU temps I am seeing while in game. I have not run Firestrike or Time Spy yet. I have only installed HWmonitor and WoW.

On ultra settings in town in WoW, my CPU temps would reach 92 deg. Just me moving around in town. Is this normal or should I be seeing better temperatures?

To compare, my Alienware 15 was seeing cpu temps top at 76 deg (it's not the same processor I know but still).

I have not repasted or undervolted. I have never had to undervolt before so I'm unsure how exactly to use Throttlestop.

Also I am hearing coil whine. Fairly noticeable even over 4500 rpm fan speeds.

Should I return to Best Buy and try again or go with a different laptop such as the MSI GS75.

I love this laptop but damn 92 deg cpu temp on DAY 1 of owning it and not even stressing it hard by playing an old ass game is ridiculous to me.

    5 hrs later:

    Firestrike stock run: https://imgur.com/a/KuApsEK

    Time Spy stock run: https://imgur.com/a/FPuv9Pj

Coil whine is gone lol. Its like it disappeared after I stressed the computer.

I am running completely stock. No overclocks, no undervolts or limits on turbo boost.

I am running stock paste. I am running "Gaming mode" in Synapse. I am running HIGH PERFORMANCE in battery mode. I have the absolute latest Nvidia GeForce driver through Nvidia GeForce Experience.

3D Mark is showing my temps BARELY hitting 90 for brief seconds with most temps staying in mid to upper 70s to low 80s. However, HWMonitor is showing high 80s to low 90s. Which to believe?

So for stock, how bad does it look? Should I be pleased with these numbers?

Unlike the MSI factory paste, the one used in Razer blade has been reported fairly ok. But a LM repaste will improve cooling, if applied correctly. So you should be fine with the stock paste. However, undervolting seems to be really necessary if you play a lot of CPU intensive games. Undervolting itself is not hard, just download throttlestop and read some guides on the forum or youtube then you will be fine. Worst case scenario is that you get a blue screen for undervolting too much, which then you just need to adjust it back a lil bit. Keep trying to a few times to find the sweetest spot for yourself.

Coil whine could be a common thing for the blade (from what I've seen on youtube and the forum) and it should go away after a while, but if you keep hearing it the whole time when your fan speed is not even high then you may have some fan issues indeed.

As for the GS75, or GS65, if you are going to buy them straight up from the local stores, which comes with stock paste, I think it won't really improve your experience much. Because as I said above, the factory paste in the GS65 and GS75 are reported no good. I think I've seen some GS65 owner saying LM repaste improved the temp by 5 degree overall. So honestly I think it'd be better if you buy from a online vender like HIDevolution (they carry both MSI and Razer) or Gentech (MSI), since they offer custom LM repaste and RAM, SSD upgrades (it makes a big difference if you are gonna buy a GS65 due to flipped mobo) .

Temperature, battery life, performance can’t be measured on day one unless you finished all updates including windows etc which I doubt, nvidia driver only doesn’t mean it’s optimized on its best condition. Can’t see clearly physical score on 3Dmark but it should around 16k for 8750H unless it’s throttle bad due thermal or Power Limit. HWINFO is more accurate but that than 3Dmark sensor. Undervolting is needed in any gaming laptop, if you’re not familiar with TS try first Intel XTU that is more simple. Since it’s quite thin cassis unlike probably your Alienware, there’s limited cooling headroom inside so you want to push fans for better temperature which means better performance.
With GS75 you’ll have bigger cooling headroom but GS Laptops use lower gpu tdp vs Razer the highest one 90 watt, I think my 1070mq performs overall better than any GS with 2060 but not all Blade 15 2060.

Gaming some in WoW and Destiny 2 today both ultra settings, gaming mode, max fans.

CPU temps reached 100 deg on several cores . This is absolutely unacceptable to me for a $2500 laptop. Sure I havent undervolt but you really shouldn't need to in a premium product such as this.

Will be returning to Best Buy.

On a positive note, my benchmark scores are fantastic and I'm in the upper percentile for this GPU.

Undervolting is as simple as setting up an email account or any of the countless things we learn to do.
All super thin gaming laptops need the undervolt. If Razer, MSI etc applied an undervolt from factory some units would blue screen because of variables between units.

    When i had a GT83 or GT75 I undervolted as well.

I still hit 98c on the razer on some cores in certain games even with the undervolt but my average is still 3.9ghz. Many times its a brief peak because my fans are on auto and they couldnt rise as fast as whatever cpu load happened.

These thin and lights throttle. If the average is still over 3.8ghz..all is well in my opinion.

98 deg is hot man. I'm looking for this product to last me at least 3 years. Temps that high cannot be good for the internal components over the course of years.

My 5 yr old Alienware 15 R1 only gets to 80 deg max. What will this Razer ne in 5 years? I cant say!

Edit: sorry for double post. On mobile and the quote thing screwed up.

Really hesitant to buy such a expensive laptop without GSync and not a fan of Optimus either ( GSync is amazing think it’s one of the best things to improve screens in a long time ).
Is screen tearing noticeable even with the 144hz screen? I hear GSync is not really needed with a screen with this fast a response time but still I’m unsure.

I don’t notice any screen tearing yet last time I noticed was on Blade 14 2017, even I’ve g sync 1440p 144Hz monitor for 1080p like esports I prefer playing on Blade 15 Panel. Open world or other single player on external monitor. G sync on portable laptops is useless, bad battery life, other side optimus has a lot bugs, both has its advantage and disadvantage, hope someday it’ll be more manufacturer that use g sync optimus switchable not only Zephyrus and Clevo with bigger battery capacity than current existing one.

I think the Razer blade 15 is in same category with the MSI GS65, which aims to offer not only decent gaming but also the on-the-go experience. The power efficiency decrease brought by putting G-sync onboard just isn't worth it, since they already have 144HZ panels. Whereas for the ROG Zephyrus GX531/701, though similar in size, their keyboard layouts and the way their coolings are designed are obviously aiming for some sort of portable but mostly on desks direction. That's why they have G-Sync on board because they assume their customers would use the Zepherus with AC pluged in most of the time so the increased battery consumption wouldn't be an issue. However, ASUS did add Optimus mode and Type-C charging to try to improve their "portable" experience, but it's just too inconvenient IMO.
The Zephyrus S GX701 does have better performance and cooling than the GS75 and the Blade 15 though.

Hmm the 2060 in the average laptop is on par with a full size 1070, the MQ is quite a bit slower.

But its a shame that pretty much all current laptops out of the box run way too hot. But it is worrisome, especially considering the Razer balde 15 is also available with the 2080MQ.

Hi guys. Recently I owned a 2018 professional model and I remember that it stayed silent while web surfing.
Now I have the 2019 model with the 2070 and the fans are running a bit all the time and battery shows 2 hours of battery life at 100% - although energy saving mode is activated. No app is running in the background...RGB lighting is off...
Is there s.th. I have forgotten to check?

I think this both laptops sit on top rangking on its gpu class. True out of box thermal seemly most manufacturer overvollt their cpu setting, so first thing to do on Blade is undervolting.

No apps running background doesn’t mean no operation works back there. Maybe some optimization like windows update or Synapse are working? You can check discharging rate, i think if 2 hours it’s over 20 watt, try to manage under 10 watt on battery. I found battery killer apps that is even not open eat the battery, on my case is gpu switcher Beta turn it on battery life will be worse a lot. You can check it on battery setting on windows as well, I think chrome may be also the culprit.

Oh ok. Chrome might be an issue. I`ll check maybe Opera instead.

Yes I think most people tuning their laptops and for benchmarks using OC profile, including me. On 2080 it’s hard to track due full mobile and maxq architecture but on 2060 it’s clearly the score can’t be catch by other manufacturer, ignore the highest score second and third is Blade as well.

Do these black blades really scratch up easy? I noticed a little knick on the sharp edge of the left side. Shiny aluminum underneath..
I dont even know how it happened. This is the first gaming laptop i use around the house instead of just a desk. Never had a scratch..had this 2 weeks and already getting dinged.

Dbrand skins dont cover the edges.
Seems to be delicate aluminum and also light layer of paint

Yes it’s easily scratched, I knew that from dave2d Video that’s why I’m really careful on that and using a sleeve on the go. I don’t use skin though but with that sleeve I could keep my old Blade 14 for almost 2 years and current Blade 15 for around 10 months „“scratch-less“.

Hm....so I switched to Opera, only browsing the web, no RGB lighting, battery saving mode...but still only 2hours of battery and the fans are running all the time o_O

Its not really fair to make such a statement based on 1 machine that is tuned vs non-tuned benchmark results dont you think?

The score is slightly lower than the OC variants of the 1070 in various laptops. So sad to see that in laptops the performance isnt similar to the 2060 desktop cards which are on the 1070TI level. There is still headroom i guess if the cooling allows it. Maybe Liquid metal paste can unlock it (if the power delivery is up to par).

Yes you’re true comparing non tune vs stock, my point was where others 2060 laptops if 3 let’s say tuned Blade 2060 users sitting there for almost a month, second brand I think was Acer, maybe tweakers don’t have attention on this class gaming Laptop
Yes desktop 2060 is equal with 2080maxq stock, thanks to nvidia
I’ve still 2018 Blade 1070mq and @iunlock could push it with his moding to 18k graphics meanwhile mine that till today still on stock (Factory Paste 10 months still :)) still sit on 17K, and this is still one of best on its class, with original ssd I can push it more. Of course that’s not stock setting, cpu undervolting and gpu OC is needed for showing ;)

Could Synapse 3 be the problem? Might switch to Synapse 2?

Nope, Synapse 2 isn’t for Blade 15. Check discharge rate, make sure on HWinfo64 etc you run below -10 like mine 9 watt and try closing apps that opened on tab I pointed. Undervolting may also increase the battery life and reduce Fans noise but for your 2 hours I don’t think uV will help much on battery life, there’s something wrong there.

    Thx!
I have checked this and battery drain is at 30watts. Don`t know where this comes from. Switching from 144Hz to 60Hz makes no difference. Battery saver mode enabled and only Opera is running (0,1 % CPU usage).
    I am lost... :(

Rise support ticket to Razer and they will lead you for sending battery report and how to do that to analyze and find the culprit. cpu usage isn’t all it maybe optimus bugs, lightning system or battery problem like connection or failure battery.

Thx for your help but I think I have found the service that was responsible: I removed the HP printing software and now I have about 12-13 watts power drain.

Check taskmanager often. Sort the process column by processor usage percentage to find out.
Balanced power plan should allow for much lower processor frequencies when browsing etc. Use HWINFO64 to see what speed you are at and the average.
Click on the battery icon and move the slider that appears to best battery life. If you dont like the screen dimming then you can uncheck "dim screen on battery saver" in windows battery settings.
Your nvidia GPU needs to be at 0-300mhz. This can be checked using HWINFO64. Nvidia control panel will allow you to select integrated graphics as the default card used.
Some of this may be painfully obvious...sorry to be "that guy" just want to help.
Id be annoyed if I didnt get good battery life. I get between 4-6 hours browsing/netflix.

Edit: late to the party. Sorry, i see the problem was already solved.
