Those some decent temps on the cpu, is that on stock paste?

Can you run cinebench multicore? Curious how 8750H on rtx Blade 2019.
It is on auto, with manual it should be lower, though louder Fans noise as trade off.

Bone stock as received from amazon.

I got a score of 996 (same stock/auto fans + UV). It's pretty low but seems inline with the other RB15's - and probably why the temps are decent with quiet fans. The CPU starts power-limit throttling the instance there's some load, and continues throughout.

EDIT: Max CPU temp of 67C during the run and the max core frequency dropped to 2.89GHz by the end of it.

I see, so it’s similar with Blade 2018 but balanced mode is limiting cpu wattage to 25 Watt and gaming mode put cpu in normal wattage 45 boost sometimes to higher frequency like 60 watt when I’m not wrong so using gaming mode actually use 8750H on normal wattage. I just recently checked cinebench multicore running multi times it scores always around 1200, before was barely hitting high 1900ish, so maybe it’s already optimized on 2018 model, idk about 2019, want give it a try running gaming mode on manual Fans like max or high rpm?

Got 1187 on cinebench in gaming mode, max fans and undervolt.

Interesting, the CPU didn't power throttle instantly like it did in balanced mode and holds on for most of the test. Max CPU temp 69C

I just had the GE63 with full 2080. I put it up for sale right away. Took the loss.
Coming from a 2018 blade 15 i just missed so much. The great screen, keyboard and touchpad. ....touchpad!

Now ive ordered the 2080 blade. Cant wait and dont regret switching although i do feel stupid for buying the MSI

That’s very interesting, I am still looking at the GE75 with RTX 2080 I realize they are 2 different laptops for different neeeds but I’m not sure if I’m willing to sacrifice the full power of the 2080 over tha MQ version.
What exactly didn’t you like about the GE 63 and out of curiosity what was the fan noise and temps on both the CPU/GPU?
One big negative of MSI is the lack of Gsync screens for a lot of the gaming laptops which is a part of the decision my making on what to get next.

People crap on the blade battery but the GE series batteries are just no good. The systems aren't optomized for power savings. The motherboard, fans etc.
The touchpad on the GE75 may be better than the GE63. I dont know.

Temps were amazing. 8750h never throttled from thermals. The bottom cover is cheap plastic. I guess i didnt like that and seeing half the motherboard exposed doesnt reak premium like the blade. There was some bad backlight bleed as well and although the contrast ratio is much better on the MSI machines in general (Auo panels) the LG screen on the blade just has that Apple kind of soft beauty that you find on apple products (LG screens) also bottom firing speakers dont sound good while on your lap.

Unrelated question- anyone else with an RTX razer blade notice that when you boot the computer up from a shut down, windows hello/face sign in works, but if you restart the computer (rather than shut down and start up again separately) the IR camera doesn't fire up and windows hello fails? I have just noticed this on my device.

Thanks in advance if someone could check this out.

Curious to know what gaming mode, auto fans and undervolt would get from a performance, heat and noise level. Could be an interesting balance...

Good point. I got 1137 in cinebench using gaming mode, undervolt, and autofans - but I'll test out gaming performance and corresponding noise levels later today when I do get home. There's also a new "creator" mode which is supposed to increase CPU performance rather than GPU in gaming mode. So far, I've been getting consistently less scores on cinebench on creator mode vs. gaming mode.

In other news, the intermittent trackpad issues are officially driving me insane and I'm strongly considering returning the machine for a GS65. Seems like its a hardware defect. Really can't afford to go through the whole replacement process outside the US and amazon have agreed to a full refund if I do decide to return it.

Yes Synapse isn’t great I had some bugs owning Blade 15 for 9 months like suddenly loosing fans control icon do I can’t get access to fans control, solved that by installing the original from Razer website, yes on Synapse recently update cursor is damn laggy when move across Synapse areas, minimized it and it smooth again around the screen. That’s all the issue to me, there’s always something with other brands, gs65 is nice Blade alternative but personally after getting used to MacBook and old Blade body once I tested it, I don’t like the build quality not mentioned the performance and flip mobo and different configuration depends seller like ssd and ram, idk about rtx model though it was pascal 1070 maxq one, and I had bad experience with its earlier model gs40, can’t hold a month gaming usage and get rid to Blade 14 2015 never regretted, but maybe it was my bad luck with MSI laptop. About trackpad I think so far it’s best windows trackpad I’ve ever use since my MacBook Pro 2013, never tried xps though I heard it’s great.

Been playing around with my rtx 2070 unit and so far, its okay. Fan isn't loud on idle but it does produce a high pitch which seems on par with all the other fan noise test videos I've seen. Coil whine seems present only when gaming but quickly drowned by the sounds of a 747 taking off. Overall pretty, planning to invest in some nc headphones.

What unvolt settings are you all using? Currently have both cache and core to -.1250. Would you say this is good enough? Thanks

One issue I am facing though is with nvidia drivers. I can't seem to be able to install standard drivers, even with DDU/windows 10 update to latest 1809/17763 build. What is the nvidia driver version that comes stock with the razer blade rtx 2070?

I've undervolted to -0.130 and I think it's pretty great. Anything beyond that would cause the system to crash, so YMMV. You can try incrementally changing the undervolt to determine the best and most stable value.

My laptop shipped with 417.59 out of the box. I instantly downloaded GeForce Experience and have been keeping my dirivers up to date through the app. Haven't run into an issue as yet.

What are all of your GPU temps looking like with the 2070? I am seeing 76-77 in Anthem with an average clock rate around 1500-1600. I have LM on CPU and GPU. Cpu is running at 3.5 with a -.163 core and -.140 cache Undervolt. CPU stays in the high 70's and low 80's. On a side note, my max firestrike score is 19,750 GPU and Time Spy is 7350 GPU. Pretty happy with the machine thus far. Coil whine is atrocious but I knew that going in. also note that my GPU runs faster with synapse uninstalled. It is doing something to limit the GPU on all modes including gaming mode. I have only played anthem and run 3dmark thus far. Pretty happy with the results. Looking for some temp comparisons.

Note: GPU drops to 1425 with synapse installed in game. The lowest it drops with it uninstalled is 1485. Also to note my GPU OC is 195 core and 500 mem.

Got my blade 2080 today. Yes the Windows Hello is terrible. Maybe im supposed to keep my face close up but I rarely do.

Overall it seems to cool abit better than my 1070 blade. The GPU hasn't gone over 70c yet in Pubg or Apex at 1440p (monitor)
My cpu seems to be a bit extra over volted from the factory. Pulling 67watts in a cpuz stress test at -140 undervolt. (before it throttles..)Im going to slowy push up the undervolt because I think I can get that down to 60watts.

The keyboard seems a little clickier. Maybe its cause its new but I like it. The sound of the speakers is abit deeper or maybe just a warmer sound.
I got the LG panel … 512/2080. I was abit worried. (althought the auo82 would have been great)

There is some backlight bleed on the bottom edge of the panel. Not bad..but I wish it could have been perfect.
I bought it from Microsoft and it was cheaper than Razer would have been.

the fans do whistle or whatever that sound is. Mainly when they are spinning fast. I've seen some on laptops that just wooosh. Like the zephyrus. Ah well

The GPU is good. Steady frames. Fast. Interestingly Razer didn't apply a overclock when gaming mode is on. With the 1070 they did. I think this is because with the new versions of Max-q the manufacturer can tweak the gpu to the ideal for them anyway. So it already has exactly what they want. Or the bios is doing it without it showing up in MSI afterburner. Seems to start around 900mhz and goes up all the way to near 1890mhz. 1300mhz seemed to be average number at 1440p and hitting the 90watt limit with pubg. I saw 102 watts as the maximum. ( probably very momentary peak)
Naturally I played around with afterburner and found that so far a 125mhz with 200mhz memory overclock seems to work reliably. Even though the 90 watts was being hit it let the frequency go up. I don't know how these max-q chips do that. I saw 2010mhz as a maximum. Again....probably so brief it would be a blink of an eye. I was playing a game so I don't know.

Great laptop. Perfect if it weren't for the backlight bleed. But its not too bad so Ill live with it.

are the fans supposed to come on whenever you plug it in? I'm fine with it revving up especially when gaming, but I just want to double check if this is normal.

just in case you mistake static for fan, here is the base case:

might have to stop by MS and check out their display unit. I'm starting to understand people with tinnitus. that steam whistle.

Yes that’s coil whine and the fans on my 2018 pretty rarely kick in on 40 or 50ish degrees, only when connected to external monitor through hdmi or DP because that ports connected to dgpu and will kill optimus function. I would also exchange, not normal imo.

Blade 15 rtx 2060 dominate 3Dmark leader board on 8750H class.
    Firestrike
    Timespy
    2080maxq Blade 15 surpassed 22K graphics score.

    Dat vapor chamber doe!

I notice by keeping the 2080 under 70c it really helps the cpu to cool well. Keeping the fans noise down.

Thats great gpu temps at auto fans with a 140mhz overclock.

    Hi guys!

Finally received my RB 15 2070MQ, loving it so far. Huge step up from the TongFang 15 chassis (in terms of build quality not sure about value lol) but I'm running into some teething issues I guess...

I seem to be having issues with msi afterburner holding the OC that I apply. Is this caused by having Synapse open at the same time? Do you guys uninstall it? There doesn't seem to be any difference in performance using the Game profile vs the creators? Am I missing something?

Also I think I'm running bios ver 1.02 is this the latest ? There doesn't seem to be a download page on the Razer website to check if I'm running the latest firmware.

Because of the power limit any overclock in afterburner just "encourages" the clock to go higher when it can. Improves the average but not necessarily by the the full frequency you have added.

Ok thanks, what are your Firestrike and TimeSpy scores? Just wanna see if I'm getting the expected performance:

I get around 19 500ish in FS Graphics with an OC and TimeSpy was 7 295 on Graphics with OC as well. Is that kinda ok?

I was hoping to see better scores with the Razer having a 90W TDP power limit but I guess that is still around 10% better than the average 2070MQ's in thin and lights out there..? So no bad I guess...

Is it true that the OC we apply only show in synthetic benchmarks and have almost no effect in real game applications?

Sounds weird to me, I know theres a power limit but if your frequency is higher surely it has an impact on FPS, am I missing something?

    Cheers guys!

PS: Is it worth getting rid of Synapse?

That’s great score imo, only 1,5K difference with 2080maxq Blade normal OC that i saw. If you’ve thermal head room you should be getting better FPS with your OC profile, you can compare FPS achievement on stock with Notebookcheck 2070mq gaming FPS. Or check in game benchmark between your stock and OC profile, i get 5 to 10fps bump on 1070maxq Blade. And yes for some non cpu demanding titles power limit throttling isn’t big deal, though you can still get max 3,9 GHz on lower tdp like 35 or 25 watt.
PS: Can you Check both creator and gaming mode, click it and open afterburner to see default core and memory OC, I heard rtx Blade doesn’t apply OC value, meanwhile on 2018 1070mq it’s automatically +100 Core/+300 Memory.

Yeah its nice that Razer configured the 2070 and 2080 MQ with the slightly higher 90W TDP power limit. It shows they have done good work with their cooling system and taking advantage of it and care about the enthusiast gamers! I'm struggling to find data comparing it to the 80W 2070 MQ's out there but I think Razer and Asus are the only OEMs that are using the slightly more powerful TDP on their Max-Q skus.

Even before undervolting the CPU it wasn't thermal throttling (almost though lol) but basically this are the tweaks I've done so far:

    Synapse: Game Mode
    CPU: XTU undervolt -.125mv
MSI Afterburner: +100 core +600 mem

And I think its running ok. CPU and GPU stay cool and performance feels good. Is there any further adjustments you guys have been playing with?

I have some DDR4 Samsung B-die laying around with really nice timings that need to go replace the stock ram but I am waiting for my 1TB SSD upgrade to swap that out all at the same time... that should help scrape a few extra points in Cinebench and 3DMark physics score just for fun!

Overall, the more I'm using it the more its seducing me

Yes, I'm really pleased with my 2080max-Q I feel that I made the right choice regarding the max-Q laptops : This is the best one out there, others are nearly as expensive and really don't cool components as well, plus the build quality is far superior then the GS65 for instance.

Just that you need to slightly lower the turbo multipliers and undervolt. The factory thermal paste is great.

I still manage to get right on the limit of thermal throttling in certain games but I haven't played with any Turbo limitations, I just gave a simple -.125mv undervolt and left it at that. It seems to work well enough, tbh I don't really care how hot the CPU runs as long as I'm getting all the performance from it lol!

I have been struggling to run Anthem over 60 fps at 1440p, I know this game is very demanding but was hoping for better performance.... I'm trying not to have any regrets not getting the 2080 MQ but this is a bad game for that!

On the other hand, pretty impressed with Far Cry New Dawn, the 2070 MQ runs it really well at 1440p, I'm averaging 75-80 FPS on High settings. This game really likes the Turing arch by the look of things. I'm getting almost same performance as a full GTX 1080.... not bad I reckon

Do you have Anthem or Far Cry New Dawn? I would be interested to hear what kind of improvements you're getting over the 2070 MQ

Looks like I've got a bit of a dud of a GPU, it will only hold +90 on the core and +600 on mem 100% stable... it will go higher but I get the occasional crash so not worth it. I know OCing is kinda pointless on a laptop with limited TDP but its always nice when you get silicon that allows you that little extra free performance!

At the end of the day I think it might've been worth me holding on for the 2080 MQ but you do get diminishing returns in terms of value which I couldn't get my head around and also this is not mean to be my primary gaming rig so I don't really know why I'm looking for more GPU performance, I'm just a sucker for fast laptops with really fast GPUs in them!

    Hi Guy's

Could anyone give me an indication on what the i7 8750h 2070 rtx version of the blade gets battery wise both with light work such as writing code not compiling anything just running IDE a bit of web browsing YouTube that sort of thing? also what is battery life like when watching films offline.

I have just sent back my Aero 15x 1070 gtx version (due to poor build quality) and the one thing I did love with it was when I was doing work I did not really need to worry about battery life I could run all day. In addition, I could watch two 2-hour films back to back with some battery to spare.

Would this be possible on the new Razer blade 15 with the 2070 RTX?

    Thanks

I'm guessing you can't set the fan speed to 0 manually in any of the performance modes on the RTX refreshes?

Nice review! I'm going to the retail store today to try out how the keyboard feels but they only have the older model here in Tokyo. Are the keyboard and trackpad the same as last year except the per key rgb lighting thing? Also I'm really curious about how the RTX Razer blade 15 performs comparing to the new GS65 in games, especially thermals. Since I'm a little worried that their aggressive power throttling strategy would have some impact on heavy load gaming, say maybe 2 hours of Anthem under full settings? (w/ undervolt, lm repaste and etc.).

In your review, you mentioned you observed creaking with your previous GS65. Do you think that holds true for the current 65/75? If so then I'd likely consider a RB 15 with a RTX 2070 Max-Q. Spending this much on a laptop, one really needs to be confident about their purchase :)

I ordered a GS65 w/2080 2 weeks ago and been browsing the internet for reviews ever since. I think they all mentioned that the 2019 model has improved the build quality in general, though some creeks still exists. But if you are comparing the build quality to the blade, then the answer is pretty obvious.

No. The minimum fan speed under manual control is higher than what you typically see on auto. Not worth it to switch to manual unless you want to crank it all the way up imo

It does but less of an extent as last year. Andrei wrote a review on the current GS65(same site) and I talked him through what I was experiencing. He still noticed it too unfortunately. They did beef up the chassis a little, but it wasn't enough I guess. Some guy did a full teardown to prove that the chassis was indeed a little more sturdy. Last year was insanely thin though.

I can't say it was a dealbreaker because I got used to it. I can say after a week, I don't miss the creakinesss though. There's some stuff I do miss with the GS65 but not much. In comparison, the GS65 has the better keyboard and is a little lighter feeling. There's also slightly better IO and arguably better looking(Razer's logo is still butt ugly). The Blade has the better trackpad, Windows Hello, better lighting, better GPU(90W version), better speakers and better build quality. Price difference certainly pays for all that.

Edit: I can't speak for the GS75. That was my first pick before I saw that the Blade had Windows Hello and fixed their keyboard backlighting issue. I hear it's a great machine though.

Yup same keyboard and trackpad. Andrei is putting up a comparison on the site soon. This was the last 15" review so we pretty much have them all now. We did the same tests with the same games, so it should be close.

Were you under heavy load (or should I say how long were you under heavy load) when the CPU was running at 3.5 with undervolt? I've seen some youtube videos of people playing various games on the blade w/2080 and their CPU temp were constantly above 92, which worries me a lil but I'm not sure whether they have done any undervolting or turbo reduction.

So I have landed on 1590 GPU clock max. It drops down to 1545 at lowest bin in anthem if I leave my CPU at 3.5 -.143 undervolt. GPU maxes at 76 and cpu at 79. Most of the time CPU and GPU are around 72-75. I can run at 3.7 cpu and get a 1208 cinebench score. Anything higher than 3.7 and my score goes down. Note that the 3.5 gives me 1120-1140 cinebench. I HIDevolution did the LM paste on CPU and GPU. I believe I got an average CPU and an above average GPU. I limit the GPU to 1590 because that is the best bin and keeps temps at bay. Also GPU only goes down to 1545 core if I leave it at that. My Timespy score is 7500. I am basically at the heels of a stock 2080. My cpu in anthem does not hit higher than 79. that is playing for hours on end. GPU is 76. What are you getting on GPU temps?

Thanks for all the info man! It's actually amazing for the blade to get 79 when playing Anthem. Were you using Game mode for better cooling? I'm actually going to order the 2080 model from HIDevolution as well, once I get my money back from canceling the GS65 I ordered. So I don't really have the laptop yet. But from one guy I have seen on youtube, he uploaded about 8 games when playing on the new blade w/2080, which all had CPU temp higher than 90 all the time. That's why I'm so amazed by your current results. I did ask him about the undervolting and repaste and he replied he have done none, which explains why his CPU temp were always so high. I at first was afraid that the Razer would have more thermal issues than the GS65 and that's why I ordered the GS65 two weeks ago, but now with more and more reviews, it seems that with repaste and undervolt, the blade is actually pretty okay comparing to the last gen.

Anthem seems to be the toughest game I have come across. It actually lowered my 2080ti overclock that has been stable since day one. I had to drop not one but two bins. I can play all day under 80 degrees on cpu with the razer. Reminder that I have dropped the cpu to 3.5 and -.143 volts. That gets me the best GPU clock and CPU temps. I can jump to 3.7 if I want more cpu power but it drops my GPU overclock a few bins. I can tell you the Razer has exceeded my expectations. I wish I would have grabbed the 2080 but could not justify another 600 for small performance bump.

    Im confused

Are you referring to a 100mhz increment when you say bin?

Are you implying that the 230watt power limit is reached when your cpu is at 3.9ghz and gpu is oveeclocked? And that is why you reduce to 3.7?
Or is it a vapor chamber thing and throttling on temperature?

Yeah I think judging from the all the games that guy played, Anthem was the only one that had GPU usage over 90% for a long time, which I guess it means the game is really graphic intensive? There were three things I was a lil unease about the Razer blade 15, which were the logo that screams GAMER!!!! on the back, the thermal issues and the custom service. Now that I found that the 2019 model actually made the logo more subtle (though I think I will still get the Dbrand matt black skin without the logo cut for it), and the thermals are actually great and HIDevolution actually has them in stock. I can't be happier since I really really dig the overall simple&clean style of the blade. Too bad I live in Tokyo, I think it'd take probably another 10 days for me to get my hands on this sexy machine.

Sorry: To clarify a bin is one step up or down on the GPU. So for Turing, a bin=15 MHz on the core. This applies to all RTX cards as far as I know. The total SYSTEM power is not the issue. The heat and the way the RTX card responds is what I am referencing. My observation is if I clock the 8750h at 3.5, my CPU temp never exceeds 79 degrees after hours of gaming. With that CPU clock I can achieve 1545-1590 on the GPU. It never goes below 1545. If I move the CPU to 3.6 or 3.7, the extra heat causes the GPU to drop bins below 1545. I believe 3.6 drops GPU to 1500 and 3.7 drops GPU to 1440ish. Not worth the CPU speed gain in my honest opinion. I have the dbrand matte skin on mine as I use it for work. It looks amazing BTW! Go with Donald at HID he was great! Can anyone comment on my GPU temps? I think 72-76 is a little high but need to test in other games as Anthem crushes even my 2080ti in my desktop.

Lol nice pick on the skin. Did you get the logo cut or the one without if you don't mind me asking? With what they did to the logo being more subtle, I'm not sure would it still be necessary to get the full skin w/o logo cut. I did actually contact Donald, he responds fast and has been really helpful.
