I think it's very real. I also think that by leaking out photos a month before release they can get people's opinion and can change the cosmetics before release. Just a thought.

Aside from its hideous look, is it true that it only has 4 USB ports and no HDMI? Then there's no redeeming value compared with X205...

Or, maybe Dell is intentionally leeking these pics to probe users7 voices....

    OMG!

I'm about to close a deal on a M1710 7600G / 2GB / 200GB 7.2K, and looking this thread, just got more confident about it!!

And for what I'm been reading, 7950GTX will still remain as the fastest card over the 8700GT, until 8800 comes out...

    Anybody confirms?

But the 8800 has DX10. Right now, it won't matter, but in over a year or two it will matter. Perhaps by then, you will get another computer.

The minute nVidia releases a 256-bit GPU for the notebook, the 7950 will be left in the dust.

Exactly, in 2 years it wont matter so much, and when it does, I'll have another one, probably a M1750 :D hehehe. By the tests I've did in a similar desktop configuration, the M1710 will hold World in Conflict very well! Crysis isn't the kind of game I like, I like mostly the races and RTSs.

If Dell is aware of this thread, please, don't do something like that, it’s the ugliest laptop ever!

27th? Seriously? :D I can't get over how ugly it is though.

It has the look that make your eyes bleed.

What's with the 8700GT? From the majority of posts in this forum, the general feeling is that it's not as good as the 7950 GTX, and although being DX10, won't be good enough to play dedicated DX10 games released in the future.

Speculation alone, is there any clear advantage of getting this over the 1710?

W.r.t. some who have complained about the position of the touch pad, I respectfully suggest that if the touchpad was under the numeric keypad, would that be better? Personally, I don't mind it centered under the B key, but here's a zero-effort attempt to 'mock up' a version with a right-justified touchpad (mock away!)

Because if you're using the number pad, your arm would be rubbing all over the touchpad. :p

Ever think about why they put it relative to the center of the alpha section of the keyboard? Because the natural typing position means that's one of the only sections your arm's not lying on.

ever notice how when you're typing, you right arm is no where near the area directly beneath the numeric keypad? :p

I disable the touchpad anyway, and use a real mouse, even when I'm using the built-in keyboard. Touchpads are not my favourite thing.

Whoa so its LEDs instead of that bright red background thats nice, its probably going to be blinking and such when your gaming. I'm sorry but I always kinda digged the lighting on the XPS systems.

I asked the Dell UK sales guys and they know nothing about the 1730..."There's no such thing as a 1730, sir".

But all sales people I encounter are always like that on upcoming products.

Note that unlike other photos, the border immediately around the keyboard in this photo is the same as the case: only the keys themselves stand out as white.

    But in THIS photo:

there is the extra white border with the XPS logo etc (and that carbon-fibre texture, where the other one is just plain black!).

I think that 'less hideous' photo is a prototype which was possibly included in the 'build line' manual... but maybe we'll see case customization options that allow for the keyboard frame to better match the rest of the case.

What's the possibility that the 1730 will end up not looking like that?

It looks too hideous to be real.

Oh - does anyone have any ideas/estimates as to how much this is going to cost? Base model?

Will Dell continue selling the 1710 when this becomes available? 1710 is quite outdated now, but if it sticks to its current price, or even lowers I'd prefer that as I don't see any major advantages with the 1730.

There's no way in heck that the 1730 will be cheap. The 1710 starts at like $2300 and isn't even that good with it's basic components.

The 1710 over in the US seems, oddly, a lot more expensive than the ones in the UK, (It's almost always the other way around for most electronic products).

For £1300 (approx 2600USD) you get

    - T7400, 2.16GHz,667MHz,4MB L2 cache
    - 2GB RAM
    - 512MB 7950GTX
    - 160GB. 5400RPM

At the US store, FOR 2900USD, similar specification:

    - T7400, 2.16GHz,667MHz,4MB L2 cache
    - 1GB RAM
    - 512MB 7950GTX
    - 80GB 7200RPM

Does anyone think that the new 1730 will make the current 1710 cheaper? (btw On the 29th, the 1710 over in the UK increases its price by 160USD. Unrelated but thought I might mention it)
