Two 8700GT's isn't bad... Should provide 3dmark05 scores of over 10,000. It probably will not do as well as dual 7800, 7900 or 7950GTX cards, but thats still quite a bit of power in a notebook.

I think it was some italian or french site which is known for always leaking the dell lineups so people gave them the benefit of the doubt. It was posted on numerous sites such as Engadget as well. Is it available in France yet?

I spoke to XPS Dell Rep and enquired about the upcoming XPS model. (I need to order something soon if I'm gonna get it in time for UNI!!)

This is from the Sales dept, so probably take this with a pinch of salt.

To my surprise, after previous denials that such a model existed, the person on the phone checked if I was referring to the 1730.

Well...at least Dell says it's a real model.

"Release date in the UK won't be for another month at least or another two months. Not before October"

However, for the US, he did mention "27th August"

More or less confirmed what's on the internet about the specs...range of processors, max 2.6Ghz, basic 8600 all the way to dual 8700M. Worse thing is that the pictures on the internet are apparently real and that's what it will look like

"Smoky black...with red bits on the side..different but similar to the 1710"

And they will continue selling the 1710, it's the longest 17" model they've been selling and best so far for portable gaming. Graphics card on the 1710 can be upgraded to 8700 but at the cost of my warranty. (I didn't even know it was possible to do it manually)

Oh and delivery for the 1710 is 7-10 days if I get the highest processor (sales ploy?), 21 days if I only get the 2.16...just thought I'd mention that as I read a thread asking about delivery dates on the 1710.

The US livechat guy I spoke to (by accident) said they don't have details on upcoming models. But at least Dell UK sales confirms it (btw, unfortunately he also said it was going to be reeally expensive)

No, its still pretty hideous, although putting a skin on it will make it better.

I like the dual 8700GTs, it makes up a bit for the ugliness. I still never would buy one, I would get the Sager NP5790 instead, or the Alienware M9750 if I really needed SLI. Both are much sleeker and better looking, and probably better built as well.

Probably that was just bad information. Launching a system on a Saturday is not common.
