    Yeah, me too.

There's also no option for XP. It's Vista only. :(

Anybody know if the 6 cell battery will be flush and flat with the laptop? It comes with a 4 cell one, but I'd prefer the 6 cell as long as it's flat and flush.

Depends on what you want. Seeing how much a well configured m1330 is gonna cost, the macbook pro looks like a much better deal, if you don't mind the 1.4 lb and screen size difference. I'm in the same boat. I was getting exciting about the release of the m1330 and considering at the same time a macbook pro. But now it seems the macbook pro is the way I'm going.

actually the difference isn't that large. The canadian models don't have the LED option and thus come defaulted with the standard display. With that in mind, I came up with a the US model being 1699 and the canadian model being 1599. Take into consideration canadian tax and you get about the same price.

What's with the solid state drive - if you choose, you only get 32GB? Is there room for no other drive?

Well, 64GB SSDs are few and far between, but the few that do exist cost like $800 or more, so its unpractical for them to offer it.

Does anyone know just how well the 8400 video card is? Can it run recent games at max settings? I wish the m1330 came with the 8600 card.

So I'll be toting around a external drive if I want more than 32GB? That doesn't seem practical.

Neither does the $600 upgrade cost. Stick with one of the faster hard drives, its a much more practical solution.

    +100$ for the t7100, +150$ for the LED, + 100$ for the 8400m GS.

Looks like you'll be pulling that off. Oh, and +30$ for the 6cell-battery. (The one that doesn't stick out but it better than the 4cell. :p) :D

Would it be cheaper to get the HD somewhere else and install it yourself? The HD upgrade choices seem expensive.

Does anyone know how long it will last for a 4-cell battery? And a 6-cell one? Will the 6-cell one stick out of the body?
I failed to locate the information from Dell's pages.
    Thanks.

Yep - I just ordered my 1330 with the 120 gig 5400 drive and will wait to upgrade. Maybe SSD drives will come down fast enough or the Hitachi 200 gig 7200 rpm drive will drop quickly. I am doing the same with the memory also. Just got the 1 gig and will upgrade to 4 gigs for $170 (OCZ 2 gig sodimm's for $85 no rebate from newegg).

I used EPP and think I got a decent deal:

    T7500 (2.2ghz)
    Tuxedo Black
    1 GB
    LED screen with VGA
    Nvidia 8400M GS
    120 gb 5400 drive
    Vista Ultimate
    Standard HD Audio
    Intel Wireless N card
3 Year Warranty / Accidental coverage / LoJack / Antivirus (Dell Care Plus)
    6 Cell battery
    MS Works
    Spare 65W adapter
    Fingerprint Reader

    Total was $2491 - $174.37 (7% EPP) - $278 (12% 3 or 4 years at home service) = $2038.63 + tax ($150.36) = $2188.99.

Biggest downside.... Expected ship date is 7/30 !! :(

How does that compare with packages everyone else is coming up with?

I called Dell SB today directly and got a pretty decent deal too. The following computer cost $1550 before tax.

    T7300 (2.0 GHz)
    Tuxedo Black
    1 GB RAM
    LED display with camera
    Nvidia8400M GS
    120 GB HD
    Vista Home Premium
    Standard HD audio
    Intel Wireless N Care
    Bluetooth
    6-cell battery
    Fingerprint reader
    1 year NBD onsite warranty

I don't know if this has been mentioned before, but the computer also comes with a pair of Creative Earbud EP630 earphones. Expected ship date is also 7/30, but my salesperson told me that it usually ships way early.

I'm mostly interested in the screen.

All the screen options for the XPS m1330 come with TrueLife, which is a glossy option. I bought a M1210 and returned it because of the glossy TrueLife screen, and I'd rather not make the same mistake again. I've looked at other new laptops for sale in stores like Best Buy and Circuit City, and it seems that most notebooks these days come with glossy screens.

Except for some business laptops... and the Sony SZ series. Now, if I'm right the SZ series has LED backlighting. As far as I can tell, that's the only major difference in the screens of the SZ laptops and the others in the stores.

So, my question is "Does the LED option significantly reduce glare and/or reflection from the screen?"

I'm willing to put up with a screen similar to what Sony offers on its SZ, but that is the ONLY glossy screen I've seen that I find remotely acceptable. If that isn't an option, I'll probably go for the new Inspiron 1420 instead. That one does offer an anti-glare screen, and it can be configured to specs almost identical to the m1330 (for me, that's the T7500, 2GB RAM, and the 8400 GS). Honestly I don't see much difference in these two laptops performance-wise, what do you all think?

    Cheers,
    CT

Just keep calling Dell and say that you have saved the computer that you want in a cart and see what they can do about the price. Tell them you were really aiming for a lower price than the internet price, just make sure that it is reasonable. You might have to call a few times to get a rep who is willing to deal, but there is always someone in a good mood. Be nice to them. I would give you the extension of the person, but I have not received the an email from Dell though. However, the rep did give me the order number and customer number and I can track it online. It's in "Pre-production" currently.

Agreed. Unless you're horrified of the idea of opening up your notebook or reformating your hard drive, you'd be better off purchasing the base RAM, HDD, & OS. Then you can upgrade them yourself a lot cheaper when you're ready.
