Thank you very much
I'm suffering with you guys that have had(and still have) probs with delivery and so on. Hope you all get your 9400's soon.
Just gotta say that i'm really pleased with the service from Dell over here, almost seems like two separate worlds. I mean i placed the payment on thursday and on sunday it was shipped, and i got it delivered in a week, though my ETA was set to feb 10th. That's service to me. And my contact at Dell has been very nice and helpful. Sorry to hear it's quite the opposite on the other side of the atlantic.

"Thanks for the kind feedback, we should be getting an e1705 from Dell (equivalent to 9400) this week or next and post a review in the next couple of weeks, we'll post first thoughts on it as soon as it's in hand, so check back!

Are you loading it up with some games Fredrik?? -
Yeah, quite a difference in the service it seems.
Well, i really don't have any newer games at the moment, just NFS: Most Wanted and it's on the HD of my other computer, and because i haven't got the network to function properly and my burner is broken i can't get it into my 9400 I'll try to buy some games later today. Any tips on whats good?
Gotta buy a mouse aswell. Thinkin 'bout the Logitech MX518 or a Razer Copperhead. I get my paycheck today, and i have to see how much i can spare on the computer this month.
EDIT
I'm going home in half an hour, thought i'd try to squeeze just a little more out of the gpu. -
Bf2, AoE3, doom 3, quake 4, star wars empire at war. a free fun demo (out on feb 15th), splinter cell:chaos theory, chessmaster 10th edition, Medal of honour Pacific assault,
and you already have need for speed most wanted.
tell us about that one. I have it but it will not install on my win2k platform.
just some ideas -
NFS: Most Wanted is a sweet game. The weather and lighting effects are awesome. One heck of an adrenaline rush It should look even better with the 7800.
Even better hooked up to an HDTV - which is why I needed a computer with DVI output (I was surprised at how limited my choices were for a laptop).
P.S. Just found some of the specs for the new Gateway that's coming out - looks like some serious competition for Dell (17", 7800 graphics, under 6 pounds, up to 9 hours battery...) http://www.mobilewhack.com/reviews/gateway_nx860_dual_core_laptop.html -

Hey Fredrik, did you get a Windows XP CD with the laptop????
-
Yes, actually i did. It says 'The enclosed CD contains a complete version of your operating systems software' on the back of the cd-envelope, so i guess that is it.
-
I'm at home now, tried the network stuff out, but i didn't manage to get it right. Guess i'll give my sisters husband a call later today, see if he can help me.
EDIT
If i don't get any weird spots when i try to clock and then run 3DMark05, am i good to go`? -

And, apparent to me, I know nothing about performance stats like clock speed and such. This forum does seem to be the best place to learn. This site is phenomenal for all the help I see here. I will post shipping stats when I get them. -
Congrats krazz. Lets hope you're a bit more lucky and get it on time.
EDIT
After some fiddling, i've now reached 376/911MHz and 5910 marks in 3DMarks05 Unfortunately i'v reached the limit of what is possible to clock(i think), when i do the 'Test changes' test it says i have to lower either frequency, if i go above 376/911. Soooo close to the 6k mark. -
-
Yeah, i could really use that now in the winter
EDIT
And the clocks are as high as i can have 'em. I can't just set them, they have to be "approved" by the 'Test changes'-test.
EDIT2
Gaaah, i want the 6k mark. -
As an addendum to my previous post, I installed BF2 plus the expansion pack and ran it at max everything. It was as smooth as butter. I was kind of surprised.
-
woo! dispatched today. It seems as if Dell has learned their lesson
-
Lucky you. My emails to Dell have gone unanswered. I'm calling them today. -

No change on my order - in processing, Feb. 8th delivery date (and this is supposed to be "rushed"). I hate Dell right now.

howdy folks. i've been silently following this thread since i found out the 9400 was coming out. I had just ordered a 9300 and it was shipped when i seen the sale on the 9400. Long story short, I ended up sending it back and ordering a 9400 with a free printer and backpack.
After reading all of the posts about ordering and delivery problems i was getting paranoid. Mine was due to be here on tuesday, to my surprise I came home this am and found that it arrived yesterday!!!!
I'm still screwing around with it but if anyone wants detailed pics of it i can post some. It's my first PC, though i've used them for years I have a lot to learn still. Meaning I'll be askign alot of q's around here.
Just thought it might be a ray of hope that some ppl are starting to recieve them, in NA. -

That just means you don't have articfacts and you might be able to OC a little more to get max performance out of your card. As long as the temps are reasonable.
-
9400 specs have changed on the Dell.ca site since I ordered. There are now 5 processors available instead of just the 1.83g and 2g duo cores. There is a 1.66 solocore and 1.66 duocore, as well as a 2.16 duocore. Also, there is now the option of just having integrated graphics GMA 950 and not the nvidia 7800.
-
All those running the 9400 on 300+ core what kind of side effects is this followed by?
E.g. what about the temperature of the GPU? -

Good News or Bad News hmmmm.
My 2 9400's have been shipped according to Dell (today)!! I've got the tracking numbers for Purolator. But...when I checked with Purolator they said they had not picked the order up yet (not what dell said). Dell said they will be here by next Friday.
So I call Dell back to get them to send them quicker like i was promised by the manager (overnight/express delivery instead of the regular delivery scheduled) and of course, now they don't know what I'm talking about, orders are not shipped this person says, manager isn't available, she will call me back (uh huh).
I don't know what I did to deserve this. I'm told I'm a nice guy by others, try to be helpful. What comes around goes around attitude. My charma should be much better then this. lol.
So I might be getting them next week or I might not any one's guess is as good as mine. Stay tuned as the saga continues. -
Well look on the bright side. At least it's been shipped.
-
Hi
any1 can help?
I installed my son as an administrator on my 9400, but strange enough shortkeys Ctrl+Alt or Alt Gr+2 (used to insert the "@" simbol) dont work on his account , but they work when I login
Any1 has an idea how to solve the mistery?
using XP Pro
appreciate your help
Turandot -
You are not located in the US, are you? I believe you ordered from another country and your original configuration is for another language, right? If so, you can change the settings on your son's account. Go to Control Panel > Regional and Language Settings > Languages > Add > Whatever languge you want. Should be the same you originally ordered or have in your own account in order to work the same.

Thanks zicky I tryed but not working

All I know is Dell is slow
he he he -
Dell had my laptop in 'Boxing' for two whole days. It has shipped now and should be here on Tuesday. Can't wait!
So.. USB Ports. I've heard some rumors that they are all non-powered USB.. can anyone who has recieved theirs confirm or deny this? -

"I'm still screwing around with it but if anyone wants detailed pics of it i can post some. //.."
by all means post pics!! post them of playing a game so i can pretend ima playing too )
edit:
fredrikandersson :
and whoa almost 6k but seriously don't overclock beyond ideal..i can imagine the life will wear out faster since your laptop is not the best cooling solution.
wait a few months until we see how the hardcore people survive
(that said, i still think anything under 400 can't be considered an overclock)
and yes...artifacts..esp white ones..are the first sign your video card canna take the strain...
if you see smoke..you have definately gone too far -

Well the manager called back finally and swears they have been shipped (still doesn't show shipped online) and that they should be here Tuesday or Wednesday. Fingers crossed, I so want to believe her.
-
Well, i took it as far as it could go in the settings for the screen. If i try a little higher and press 'Test changes' it says that i must lower it again. When i run the 3DMark progs. i can't see any dots or anything, so i guess it's allright.
I got help with the network issue today from my sisters husband. So now i can get in to my old computer from my 9400, but not from the old into the 9400. Doesn't really matter, since i'm only gonna use the old one as a storage unit fo my music and so on. -

Sounding good Fredrik. Let us know how you like NFS when you have a chance!
-
-
Yeah, i'm just installing it So we'll see in amoment how it looks
Now, back to NFS. Tell you in a while how it works
EDIT
Well, it worked quite well, i can tell you that I set all the settings to full on the advanced videosettings and 1600x1200. It looked pretty sweet to me I tried with the highest clocks at first, but then the computer just stupped in the middle of it. After setting it to the optimal clocks(364/883) again it worked just fine -
Flames_Fan_Forever Notebook Consultant
Ahhh - sounds like the optimal or slightly higher settings were the best eh? Not sure how much you will play around with this but let us know what you find to be the most stabel/worry free. -

:dell:
awesome pics now ima so jealous! -
i'm curious to see how it compares with xbox 360 pics.
-
Well, It's finally gone to "pre-shipping". Looks like their estimate of Feb 1 will be spot on. And two weeks wait for a cutting-edge laptop is not too bad, I guess. Also, my experience with Dell hasn't been too bad, either.
fredrik, here's a link to help you with your nfs:mw game. It's a resolution changer that will let you run in any resolution (I'm using 1280x720). I recommend installing the latest patch for your game first (1.3), then run this res program instead of the nfs.exe. It should support 1920x1200

Well, Purolator has told me this morning that my laptops are sitting in the back of a flat bed at Dell waiting for it to fill before Purolator picks it up. 3 - 5 days usuallys for Dell to fill it up depending on order volume. I hope to get them before next weekend.
Great pics Fredrik - I loved the corvette. It would be interesting to see comparison shots with 1600 x 1200 and 1920 x 1200 (if you use the above res program that Garbuckle posted a link to).
Ah, we've been putting you to work Fredrik, thanks for posting so much information. You rock buddy!!!! -
No problem FFF I'm just glad i can help, and i'm learning all the time. Gonna try that program and see how it looks. Look out for new screenshots
EDIT
Naah, i can't get it to work. Still 1600x1200. -
Flames_Fan_Forever Notebook Consultant
-
Yeah, got a not so exciting problem now. Parts of the textures strted flickering, gonna try to install the 81.97 drivers again, changed to the 83.20 or whatever today.
EDIT
After a change of drivers, back to the 81.97, it works better. Ran the same race and none of the earlier probs came up. So 81.97 drivers and Optimal clocks seem to be the best working set up for now for me. -
Hmmm. Strange that you can't get 1920x1200 to work. Just for the fun of it, I set my resolution to 1920x1080 (but interlaced for HDTV). It runs fine, but even without AA on an AIW9800pro it's way too choppy to play effectively at that resolution. It should be much nicer on the 7800 and 1440x900 (when it arrives).

Well, for NFS they seem to work better for me. The Xtreme-G Mobileforce ones that is. Found at Tweaksrus.com.
Ordered a Razer Copperhead mouse today too, i'll get it on wednesday, that's gonna ease up the gaming a bit. The touchpad isn't very 'gameisch' -

Apparently, there is a major problem with USB 2.0 on duo core notebooks running Windows XP SP2 and Microsoft needs to release a patch. Battery life is 40% less when using a USB 2.0 device right now!!!! -
