yeah that's way too big to even be fun. Gotta try to keep it small!

lol K-Tron... dude, build a PC and slap on some industrial sized casters on the bottom so you can roll it down the street...
-
but all jokes aside.... hmm... perhaps you can get a briefcase and build your laptop inside of it?
get one of thems fancy aluminum briefcase... wont fit a 24" screen but definitely something nice and big... -
-
I personally like what this guy did with a mini-ITX laptop.
-
IDK.. K-Tron no offense but I sorta foresaw something like this happening.. way to much paint in the air, peices laying around sanding etc. for something not to break or go horribly wrong.
Reminds me of when I spray painted my Cell Phone... it looked great, but wouldn't turn on anymore..
You should cut your losses and stop wasting money -
P.S. its not Clevo or Voodoo you should be blaming, blame yourself, your over-confidence and brash decisions imo. Especially since Clevo rocks.
As I like to say, To much of anything will get you very little in the end.
sorry.
p.s your custom idea for a new laptop using desktop parts is ridiculous.. just build a desktop. portable system with 5-10 minutes of battery isn't worth it. -
Hey Garandhero... i think that's all water under the bridge bro...
i applaud K-Tron for his confidence and ambition to undertake such an ordeal...
sadly, the economic repercussions was quite steep there...
but a desktop part on a laptop/portable, interesting... it is finally an "upgradable" computer, no? -
At 70lbs, that's hardly portable. I was thinking more just a portable desktop in a laptop-style form.... One that weighed in at maybe 20 pounds tops before the "power brick"
-
OOooohhh... pains of carrying my 13 lbs laptop and 1 lb power brick...
the bruises... sore shoulders... -
I am sure its water under the bridge now... water and a lot of $$
Next time be happy with what you have - quests for perfection usually end in disaster. (another good line) -

At this point, would it not be cheaper to just get a new Clevo motherboard? What will that set you back, 300 bucks? Seems just like a drop in the bucket at this point.

I don't care about the outcome of the laptop, but the amount of experience you must've gained from this is amazing. I wish I had hands-on experience like you, but I don't have enough laptops to mess with and don't even know what shorting is
.
Good job k-tron, I can't wait to see your future projects. -
I am curious:
If you were having all these problems with the Bios from the day you bought it, even though you were praising it to be your prized possesion, why wouldnt you fix the mechanical problems before divuldging into such a deep cosmetic project?
I guess I am kinda confused as I saw all your previous post saying how it was the most amzing piece of machinery, then BOOM this piece of **** has had problems since day one, dont ever by a Clevo. *scratch's head*. -

Well you know what they say "Persistance overcomes resistance".
I think personally i would have fixed everything first and made sure the system screamed before divuldging into this project. But hey You might win you migh lose but at least you played. -

It sounds like you're getting a lot of knowledge out of it at any rate. Imo, you've spent so much money on painting the system and whatnot, that you shouldn't give up on it due to more minor things (at least costwise). If it's just the bios chip, it might be totally fixable with some minor work; good luck to you!
-
I'm sorry but that is one hella ugly laptop now.
It had to be said.
Normally, when one orders a Voodoo PC (based in my home city, btw) the 'bling' factor is one of the reasons. There's no need to go customizing it after, imo. -

To completely bash a manufacturer without the knowledge of what they really do is completely unreasonable. You're insulting both the company, and its customers who purchased a customized machine from them. From what I can tell, most of Voodoo's customers are satisfied with their paint and machines. -
now now... lets not go down that path again...

Do you have a website with all your exploits with electronics? You should go ahead and make one? On a side note with all this work do you have any outside social life uni parties, clubs, etc.

-
-

-
-
for 4k bucks i would've expected a lot better imo - and probably some cool designs etc. thing looks like a shiny red hooker dress or something. + its cheapened by all the stickers too.
just doesn't look very clean/crisp/professional- kinda cheap looking imo. -
That laptop looks amazing. I just bought an M7700 D900T, and was looking up some info, when I found your thread. Now I'm looking for somwhere to paint it
