Did they really allow you to paint your notebook and still keep it within warranty? That's real hard to believe, for any notebook manufacture.

Ouch! Even without warranty you should still be able to buy a replacement board, with all the blood sweat and money you've put iinto it thus far, it'd be a shame to wind up with a pretty paperweight.

Note, in the future you really should go to the effort of getting documented proof citing that doing something out of the ordinary has been permitted from someone who has the authority to do so. Dont ever just take their word for it, I've learned that lesson the hard way myself.

I always thought that crazy premium you paid for voodoo went towards the service... but I guess its just for the mac airs to cut cakes with... I personally wouldn't had the money or really the need to get a voodoo THEN get a freakishly expensive paintjob. A mobo replacement probably won't come easy as it has to fit exactly or it might shake and get damaged later on unless you buy replacement from voodoo... though I don't know if they do that. The better choice would have been to get them to paint it. No gold or silver and stuff, but it would have more or less the same effect... unless you were going for the bling effect. lol.
Sixteen at the moment, but I don't think I'll be able to make 10 grands anytime soon, though I do have a dream about getting into MIT.

Its hard to get a well versed tech support person period, its rare to find a good one, because people in the know want more money than they want to pay, so that why you get the "automated" dimwit that just does what the screen in front of her/him says, and when you try to explain that thats futile and been done multiple times alreadythey simply dont understand.

I've got to say, this thread's been a fun read. You're pretty crazy, K-Tron, and this is the funniest thing I've read in months:

"I am one of those guys, who has a 6 year old laptop with stickers in perfect conditions. I love stickers, it shows how much power you have."

    Thanks :D

You're going to make a laptop out of desktop parts? Any details on that? I assume using the chassis as a heatsink, small form factor parts, customized cards on risers, etc? Going to be pretty boxy! Or maybe I misunderstand,

    I dunno man...

It's totally possible, it would be about 2-3" thick on the lower half and would have to be no less than 17" but likely more like 19" to be safe. Micro ATX board, all custom cables, a single slot video card on a PCI-E riser, a custom power system based on a standard ATX power supply (Connecting with say a DB 25 for 24 pins needed on most modern motherboards, all other lines spliced off internally). You'd have no issue putting in notebook hard drives, they use standard SATA connectors, optical drives you can get adapters for very easily. It seems very feasible. Input devices could be hacked directly into the USB Bus, just make sure you get USB not PS/2 compliant devices. My biggest concern would be the height of the DIMMs, you would have to look into turning them, and I am not sure that risers exist for DIMMs (though I do not see why not). Instead, you could de-solder the DIMM slots, and re-attach them at an angle with a portion of the plastic filed off, so all dimms went it at an angle.... Etc...

In fact, that's like a dream project for me. It would of course NOT have a battery, that, or I would integrate a small (very small) UPS into the power brick (which keep in mind, would be about the size of a power supply!) It would purely be a mobile workstation/gaming computer.

Sorry to hear about your notebook. I was closely following this thread, and I was eager to see the finished project. It's a shame one of the coolest notebooks I've ever seen is no longer functioning. Hopefully you can get it running again.

As for building a notebook with desktop parts, a great idea, that's for sure. :D I've dreamed about doing that myself. Once I looked around for parts (like a 90 degrees PCI-Express adapter) that could be used to build a notebook. Of course, that's probably not going to happen for me (no time or funds), but it would be one awesome project.

By the way, didn't you say you were planning on using a 27" monitor for the notebook? How do you plan on transporting that? :p

Oh, so when stuff goes wrong it's Clevo's fault, but when you want to brag it's a Voodoo? :p You didn't =buy= a Clevo. You dismantled a rebranded one put together by another company, and it sat dismantled for =months=. I assume it worked fine when you first got it, no? If not, why did you spend a year gluing stickers on?
