3dmark should really auto detect and run on the dGPU so check it's not in IGP only mode.

Trying to overclock my 980m with MSI afterburner but whenever I apply a clock be it 1 or 100 to the core it just goes straight back to zero. Any idea what could be wrong?

hi guys,
My gt70 (1762) has bios e1762ims.71x (date:03-28-2014) is there any newer version? or am i fine when my 970m arrives?
thnx... -
In case anyone wanted to see,I went ahead and reinstalled windows and got everything up and running but when I put in my 970m this is what I am experiencing:
The colors are in ~8bit and resolution is minimum (presumably because it is using the 970m with no drivers) - and the intel 400 graphics has the same error as before.
Can I ask where you got your bios Vseelen? I am using the most recent bios off of MSI website for GT70 0NC and they are E1762IMS.10U -- 01/21/2013. I also have a GT70 (MSI 1762) so hopefully you will have better luck with your upgrade than I have so far =) -
-
The thing is i did it and still when i`m runnind 3d mark i have intel, also i tried play at cod and guess it shows only intel.
-
Try a different driver. I am using version 344.75 non modded at the moment.

That's strange.. You've got the latest nb same as with Talon but your notebook doesn't recognize the 970m... That should have been less hassle compared to my 3rd generation processor which is the GT-16F3..
Have you updated your bios? if not you should update it. After you successfully update your bios then update your vbios to msi one.
You shouldn't have any problem with your notebook if you did the bios update and the rest is plug and play.. -

msi has released it's upgrading kit at last
https://www.facebook.com/gamingmsi/photos/pcb.861089230621580/861088887288281/?type=1&theater
dunno how much for the card , or when it would be available
but i will wait to see how much would it cost . and i think it would be more compatible to our gt70 than the clevo version -
This upgrade kit will be for gt70 or gt72 ?

my last EC firmware is 1763eg62 ver 7.15. i tried also with 3gb version gpu but i have the same, its ok without any errors at the system but still only gpu whats working with the games and 3dmarks its Intel gpu !!!

Anyone tried using afterburner with the new drivers? The 344.80 work but the new ones dont
-
Hi all I see from vbios msi flashed recently bought finally i7 for $ 110)) (i7 3630qm) GTX 970m works flawlessly for 3 generation Intel ie on usual drivers from Nvidia, and it needs to flash the bios ??))
Sory for my english)) -

He is asking if the 970m works in 3rd generation i7 machines fully. I believe it does, I can't remember if it needs modified drivers or not.

I do have to use modded INF for the drivers though. Unless you can get MSI vBios and compatible system BIOS, he'll probably need to use modded INF (or such is my understanding). -
Just an example of how this beastly 970 benched on my nb
-
Hi, and i`m instaled a fresh W7 x64 still the same, GPU is correctly detected by OS but 3dmark and call of duty using only a Intel GPU, i dont know any more whats going on!?

1) Go to this folder "Display.Driver" and copy paste this to your nvidia driver (Assuming you know how to extract the 334.80 or 347.09). Ex: C:\344.80\Display.Driver
and copy paste this nv_disp.inf
http://www.filedropper.com/nvdisp
2) You need to disable driver signing. Under Windows 8 or 8.1
Command Prompt (Admin) Win key + X Type:
Code:
bcdedit /set {current} testsigning yes "<-type this in command prompt exactly"
-> "The operation completed successfully" -> reboot -> Install drivers.
Exit test mode.
Windows will ask you to reboot.
After you successfully installed the NVidia driver then do the following in order to go back to the original driver signing for windows.
Code:
bcdedit /set {current} testsigning no "<-type this in command prompt exactly"
-> reboot.

Hi, i have instaled today a W8 x64 pro and after when drivers instalation and restart of OS i have balck screen and led from the numlock (digit 1) blinking, i think i have for sure wrong EC firmware, mine barebone is MS-17632 version, i`m still waiting to get answer from Kevin, but yea its Christas time so i have to wait

I'm quite desparate now. I tried everyting I could think of but the EC does still seem to go into panic mode after some time as soon as I connect an external screen.
As long as I'm using the laptop display only everything is fine I can run 3D forever and fan is behaving as expected.
As soon as I connect an external monitor the starts to hit the fan (sorry)... At a certain point fan spins up and does not calm down again. Temperature seem all to be ok.
This issue is limited to the connecting a second screen.
It's driving me crazy. Could someone who has this configuration (MSI GT70, MSI GT980M 8GB) please confirm that he is using an external Monitor and does not have this issue (please also state if you crossflashed or not) !
Could someone please post the original clevo gtx980m 8GB vbios (or in case someone has got it - the medion gtx7835 gtx980m vbios). I made the mistake not to save it (yes - I know - stupid mistake). -
I just completed this on my GT60 2PC! So far its been great. I updated my bios to 517 and didn't have to flash a vbios or modify drivers or anything. The only nerve racking part was peeling off the x shaped bracket on the back of the new gpu. Other than that it went smoothly and took me less than an hr. I also opted to grind off that whole bar that's in the way, seeing as how the stock Clevo heat sink didn't have anything there anyway. Thanks for having the balls to do this first! Anyone want to buy an 870m?

Ebay or the members market with your old card are the best bet.

Maybe I found the root of the issue or at least another piece of the puzzle.
I watched GPU-Z sensor readings and saw a "PerfCap Reason": Thermal.
At 85 (!) degree. I do not know where that is coming from because it's not the value the tuning tools like nvinspector or afterburner are desiplaying as thermal limit/target.
Does someone happen to have an idea if there could be something either in the vbios or ec firmware (or bios) that could trigger some kind of "panic mode" at 85 degree (MSI GT70 based whitebook) ? -
While I don't know why you are experiencing a throttle @ 85, I would be wondering instead why you are getting that hot. I think you should repaste it. I used IC Diamond and I haven't seen any higher than 80c with my fan not set to turbo. In fact even at 80c the fan is way quieter than it used to be.

Hi all I am certainly interested in this Upgrade, and I have read through it at least twice already and has me hopeful. I have a GT70 ONC believe its 17621 mb, think i am able to accomplish this with my NB? also, i have been making sure my NB is prepared have updated latest bios but having problems with updating the EC. I tried updating using the guide on MSI support page but am having some issues. whevever i boot from the usb and look for the ECALL.BAT file its not listed in the directory i am in, when i attempt to change the directory it wont let me, probably me since i have not had to use DOS much . or has anyone else had this problem? or is there an alternate method for this update? any help would be appreciated, thanks

Hey guys, I own an MSI GT60 16F4 barebones which currently has an 880m. I'm planning on buying a 980m. What exactly would be all the steps I need to do to get that done, I've read this thread but I'm not exactly sure as it varies from model to model. If I buy the clevo from RJTech will that need to be flashed with a modded vbios? I'm not worried about the heatsink mod, more about the software modification side. It seems that some people have had easy success while others have struggled. Additionally if I need a modded vbios where can I find it? Thanks, and I'll definitely post my results here when I do it.

If what you have is a GT60 2pe than you should flash the newest bios (517) before upgrade. After that it should be plug and play. If you do not have a 2pe than I would use caution before doing this. It seems like the white books on this thread are having problems. I'm guessing it's because MSI hasn't released a bare bones with a Maxwell gpu yet, so the current biosisnt designed to work with them.

Please disregard the question about updating the EC. Apparently one shouldn't attempt to do these things on three hours of sleep.lol

All 16F4 motherboard and GT70 equivalent users should have no issue with plug and play after updating to the latest system BIOS. It was a discovery I made too late because I first flashed MSI vBios to the card before updating to latest system BIOS.
All that is required is to update to latest system bios, then install regular drivers even when using Clevo vBios.Txordi likes this. -
So just plug it in after you update your bios and you should be good to go?
