You do need the DOS version of nvflash to work in DOS mode.

nvflash has to be run in Windows and it can't find your GTX680M card is because of Optimus. Simply open 3DMark11 and then run nvflash and it will work.

So in a list of Clevo/MSI/Dell you picked clevo for your machine? Try removing all power (battery and AC) and see if an EC reset might help.

You can try removing the cmos battery as well then (under the keyboard) if that does not work then you will have to send your card to a place that can do manual bios recovery or your reseller.

BIOS flashing is dangerous and if you ignore the warnings the software gives you then you can do this to your machine.

Yea wish I would never done the flash. Do you have any recommendations to places that can do manual bios recovery and if i do send it back to my reseller do i tell them the truth?

Well where to send it is entirely up to where abouts you live.

As for telling the truth I would, and a nice reseller will just make you pay postage both ways.

I was able to boot to Windows even without the video card because of the Optimus enabled so it can run on Intel HD Graphics, flash wrong vBIOS should have no effect to systems with Optimus enabled:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LkXP69B34cY

I think it was just a glitch during vBIOS update. What you can try to fix it is :

1: Remove the bottom panel and remove the nVidia video card.

2: Boot to Windows so the laptop will somehow reset itself without the nVidia video card.

3: once successfully boot to Windows just shut it down and put the nVidia video card back in.

4: Turn it on and see if laptop are able to boot and get past the Intel Rapid Storage screen, if it does, then flash back to the factory vBIOS of the video card.

He picked clevo for an msi from a list of clevo, msi and alienware.

Like I said if you want suggestions on recovery where you live us important, eu/us/australia for instance.

The above might work though as it may force the bios to integrated only mode which may still let you program the gpu.

I own the GT70-0NE 446us and I can personally confirm that at STOCK it DOES throttle in heavy load games. Planetside 2 and Borderlands 2 both drop the CPU frequency down to 1.15 GHz almost immediately. Without throttlestop, these games are NOT playable as this brings FPS down to about 5-10.

    Hi DanMan3395,

Yes, my post you are quoting is somewhat dated, but I appreciate your input. I have since arrived at the same conclusion, and due to this, I am awaiting the new next generation of MSI gaming notebooks. Believe it or not, MSI does care and has been listening to our suggestions or complaints. I am excited about this, because the new models promise to be vastly improved, featuring Intel's upcoming Haswell CPU's, and NVIDIA's GTX-7xxx series.

For the time being however, all is not lost. The throttling issue seems to be predominately in the current WIN 7 models, and WIN 8 models do not seem so affected. As such, MSI released a beta EC firmware fix that seems to somewhat resolve the problem for WIN 7 models, and it will allow an OC or 3DMark11 scores comparable to other manufacturer's models. No other modifications or VBios is needed! Temps will be elevated however, but these seems to remain within a safe margin. More on this can be found at the following link..... give this a try and please report back with your findings:

    BETA EC for GT60 (16F3) & GT70 (1762)

Personally, I currently prefer to remain with WIN 7. WIN 8 is so geared toward touch screens, not having a touch screen in this notebook seems to somewhat miss the point..... and I look forward to also seeing this in upcoming models. Anyhow, I have Crysis 3, and soon the new Bio Shock. Shortly I'll post benchmarks of these games with with the WIN 7 GT70, and the new beta EC firmware.

    Good luck & ENJOY!

    :)

EDIT: For convenience, below I have added download links for the appropriate ' GT70-0NE ' beta EC firmware:

    For WIN 7 models!
    For WIN 8 models!

Several folks here have reported the same after upgrading to newer NVidia drivers. This seems to be a case of the newer drivers over-riding Optimus, and all you need do is reinstall the lastest Intel graphics driver, after the NVidia driver update. If you experience a particular game trying to use the Intel driver, you may need to set-up a 'profile' for this game in the NVidia control panel.

    :)

Also check the assignments as sometimes it likes to put things like chrome and steam as "high performance" programs.

In my case my GPU has 0% load and still its at 50C, until i open GPUz then it goes into 30C or around. Try Dling GPUz and see if that helps, see if gpuz recognizes both intel n nvidia gpus.

According to MSI website, the specs for the GT70 Dragon edition with the GTX675 says

Going into the download tab, in MSI website

So you should be fine downloading for windows 7 from intel wesbite, try this link.

If for whatever reason those dont work (they should, but in my case the officials for killer 1103 had issues, so i just used the ones from MSI website), you could use the drivers that were for the none dragon edition, that has the same card, and that laptop still has the Win7 drivers online, here is the link.

but still i get the 680m working when nothing else is running just windows...

    anyone has other suggestions?

In the control panel go to to the desktop tab at the top and click display GPU activity icon and it will appear in the bottom right by your clock.

It's not perfect but often it will show you the icon of the program that's using the GPU if you hover over it.

    Hi All,
I own a gt70-one 276us with 16Gig of RAM. As i am interested in using RAMdisk, i would like to add some more in it.
Do you guys think it would be wise to add a pair of corsair vengeance 8Gig (a total of 16 Gig) while the CL is diferrent from the stock RAM.
Using sisoft sandra lite, i found out the CL on my current ram is 11-11-11-11-28 (CL11 right?), while the vengeance should be CL10 (CMSX16GX3M2A1600C10)??

Any suggestions would be appreciared, Thanks so much.

The system would set the vengeance to CL11 as well so unless it's not more expensive just get some standard CL11 ram.

Don't use other brand memory modules. 4 modules should be the same or you like to see random BSOD even that memtest shows 0 errors.

Help needed from you MSI guru's..

So i've had my GT70 for about 2-3months now (my actual laptop: http://www.playtech.co.nz/afawcs0139235/CATID=368/ID=19741/SID=2953723/productdetails.html) and it's been going great. I did a fresh install of Win7 when i first got it and have been using it for only work purposes up until this past week when i bought and installed the new Sim City and BF3. Let the issues begin!

As far as im aware, everything is up to date as far as drivers and Win updates go. I had to download and install the latest NVIDIA driver and Punkbuster before being able to play BF3, no problem there. Anyway, i played Sim City for about 3-hours and it crashed once stating some NVIDIA component failed or something along those lines. Laptop rebooted, opened Sim City again and worked fine without further issue.

I then played BF3 and after about 30-45min i got my first BSOD. Laptop rebooted (i choose not to open in safe mode) and after 10min i opened BF3 again with the BSOD reoccuring after 30-45min again. This happened 3 times within the space of 3-hours.

The bottom of the laptop feels kind of hot so my first thought was it's overheating but the laptops practically brand new and shouldnt be doing this. It's sitting on a desk, not my lap so it should be ok.

Can someone please give me some idea's as to what i need to do to fix this. Should i send it back under warranty? that could take weeks before i see it again.
Should i sent it to a computer tech here in Wellington? could cost ME money.

    Opinions please! Im desperate.

    Hi there,

I had the same problem as you. What I did (after reinstalling the Intel HD graphics) was:

-I simply went to Windows Control Panel - Device Manager.
    -Disabled the GTX680m
    -Enabled GTX680m right after
    - BAMMMM! It worked as a charm

Hope it does the same to you ;)

Crysis 3 also supports Stereo 3D in-game without the need of nVidia 3D Vision. If you have a 3D TV you can just enable Stereo 3D in Crysis 3 and connect HDMI cable to your 3D TV to play, FPS don't drop 50% like nVidia 3D Vision does:

It's halved and effectively scan lines so yes you can.

It's like saying you can't notice the difference between 1080p and 720p.

I do notice the scan lines only when sitting close to the TV, but still it's very cool to enjoy FPS games with stereo 3D and frame rate doesn't drop like it's on nVidia 3D vision. Racing games games with same in-game stereo 3D feature would be very nice too. :)

    Hi everyone:

I just have a few questions.

    1. How locked-down is this model's BIOS?
    2. Is the CPU particularly difficult to upgrade aftermarket? Bizarrely enough, the cost of upgrading to any QM CPU is twice as much for MSI models as for Sager and Alienware models on resellers' websites.
    3. Do you have any throttling issues with Throttlestop? Is the stock PSU large enough to OC the CPU and GPU at once?

    2. No, it's right under the cover.
    3. Not needed with beta EC over at msi forums.

    any ideas ??
this was on a clean install.Just installed chipset drivers, audio, onboard video, then nvidia drivers..Did reboot btw the installs.. Im thinking its dead..Had it show up as working yesterday but with BSOD everytime i opened Nvidia controlpanel and clicked "3d settings" same error everytime "nvlddmkm.sys"

Has not worked at all since I recieved it.

Or is this because of me trying a gtx680m in GT70 0ND-444US ???

Nice find and good info Ken! That is very cool…

[rant snipped, take it to PM]

Anyhow, I just finished a complete pass through Sniper Ghost Warrior 2. This game is also optimized for nVidia GPU's, and is built on CryEngine 3. Unfortunately, like Crysis 3, no in-game benchmark, but I need to see if it also supports Stereo 3D.

    Thanks Ken! :)

    Hi guys,

First post, first MSI laptop. I ordered the GT70 - 446U and frankly, I'm just wondering if there are any things I definitely should do in the beginning? (= not forget)

I've been browsing this thread and I picked up on some useful stuff but I wondered if some of you could guide me or direct me to another topic in the forum where I can read/find about important things to do? (if such a thing exist)

I'm definitely not too lazy to search the forum if you could give me some keywords. Any help going from links to keywords to steps to take, will be immensely appreciated!

    Regards,

    Peter

I'd flash the beta EC to avoid any throttle issues over at the MSI forum and play some games, see if you want to do anything else.

Thread locked, I've got my mop out. Hang tight.

    Edit:
Alright, the floor is drying. Play nice kids, don't slip or I will have to send you to the nurse. And you really don't want that.
